The matatus can be made electric by swapping the diesel engine with batteries and motor. There is a Kenyan startup company that has succeeded in this. The company is the one making roam air electric bikes.

@@moshajexplore I understand everything perfectly. I am Kenyan, and what I mean is that we are only replacing the combustion engine with the batteries and motors. The colorful body works remains the same and that is how to save matatu culture.

How will the matatu culture be impacted by the adoption of electric vehicles? Your perspective seems outdated. Just picture this: whether they run on electric or diesel engines, matatus, especially the iconic Nganyas, are a fundamental part of Kenyan transportation. To truly understand this, consider that even as matatus transition to electric power, preserving the vibrant matatu culture remains paramount. These eclectic buses must continue to seamlessly integrate into our Kenyan streets, ensuring that our unique and cherished matatu culture endures.

As usual kenyans can make noise about how this wont be achieved but in the next 5-10 years they will be everywhere in the country.....the government will remove import duty for electric vehicles and increase the taxes for petrol engines.....you cannot expect this to fail when Kenya is the headquarters for UNEP ....you guys said the same about plastic ban and it was fully implemented... actually kenya is the only country globally with strictest laws on plastic use.....
Just watch this space as you make noise.....I know companies that have made orders for these buses already.... actually some are operating in the testing stages...😂😂😂😂
