Crispín Freeman apparently adlibbed the line, “This shindig is the bomb-diggety.” The line in the script was already pretty lame, but Crispin, in his infinite wisdom, decided to make it even lamer.
Hey if the scene is already unsalvageable, you might as well double down on the stupidity.
If I didn't know any better I would have sworn Bennett added that voiceover in for comedic effect.
I agree
Look, Crispin Freeman is one of the Best Voice Actors in LA, but even he can make poor decisions....
Lot of times I usually watch animes in Japanese w/ Subtitles so I was surprised at Balmung's line there, but yes, the whole dance party seemed very silly at the end of the OVA episode. And I also played the .hack games too! ^_^
The "big american party" line from Clerks the animated series always slays me 😂
Honestly I was convinced it was from this. It just fits too stupidly well.
“We are slaves.”
Who's driving?
OMG bear's driving, how can that be!
Crispin Freeman is a god of voice acting XD
"I'm gonna have my way with the both of you and then I'm gonna do the dog." - Crispin outtake from Noein
I agree
How dare you say that?! It was a true bomb diggity!!
I watched this show about 15 years ago and I barely remember any of it, I know I only watched it because I loved the games and I recall that the soundtrack was absolutely beautiful but beyond that it's all kind of a blur.
That OVA however is either entirely new or I repressed the memories of it so deeply that I have literally zero recollection of it... Probably for the batter.
I too prefer my relationships to be heavily implied.
They where confirmed in the fallow up books. The girls are dating in collage.
Yeah... That face says it all.
Who is driving oh my God, bear is driving how can that be?!!!
Definitely using that last line at some point in my life
I swear back in the day after going through all that bullshit that OVA was worth it.
I was wondering how this series received at the time.
@@Sonicfalcon16 Believe it or the PS2 RPGs were well liked for awhile because of "HOLY SHIT MY SAVE DATA TRANSFERS AND CHOICES MATTER?!" (Sound familiar?) up until the last one.. 4 was pushing it. As for the GU franchise unless you were reading the books or anything like that the words "RENGEKI" and "SHINO" were driving you insane. But The first two games were good, I just didnt bother with the last one.
this was a thing that happened.
...sigh...
Ohhhh good old fashioned Data drain.
I'm jusr so glad someone is talking about this francshise i Loved it
The intro was fire though
Hell yeah
Yeah the games are better than the anime. Speaking of which still waiting for a remaster of the original 4 games. I know they don't sell nearly as much as all of the SAO content but come on we got the GU games.
I cringed so hard, that I almost ascended my mortal coil.
I've learned English watching this show. Absolutely loved the soundtrack, lady Subaru and Bear character. Even as 17 year old kinda cringed at "BT name" explanation. Looking forward to a new show!
Which I won't have time to watch, because I'm 30 now. Dammit
Okay I'm waiting for a "Put my Evil Inside You" from Very Private Lesson as a Short. That has to be worthy of Best of Anime Abandon, right?
The Anime came out... before the video game Anime came out in April of 2002, Anime came out in June
You had at least some material and still managed to fuck it up…
How?!
Ok but the music was bopping though 😂 I remember as a teen trying to rewatch and nope
Honestly, if you watch SIGN and then play the games. It was well worth it at least for me.
Oh Thank god. I always thought that I was missing something about how artsy subdued and In Media Res .Hack Signs was but it turns out it was just boring and weird, okay
The anime is a prequel. The ova is after the games story. Don't blame then if you don't understand how a timeline works lol
It's not even a prequel the anime was released before the games.
True,
maybe they felt the tone is still too dark that wanted to lighten up the mood a little, A LITTLE.........
Yes, the anime does have a hill full of flaws but you gotta love the background music.
Im dying xD , wtf was that last part?
Clerks: The Animated Series dubbed over the OVA party footage
Thank you
So the original ending and the ending to the first season of Sword Art ended with the protagonist going to meet his love in real life. It's like poetry, they repeat.
First sao ending is hamlet compared to that
Oh my god bear is driving how can that be?!
Yeah. While the show was good at writing relationships and character development. Its main storyline writing was flimsy and its action scenes were barely there.
There were action scenes? Usually they just cut away to another character and come back after everything already happened.
@CapucineNighly There were, but they were very minimum. It's a blink and you'll miss it type.
@@X_Blake I guess I blinked. 😂
@@CapucineNighly LOL
Looks like I’ll have to watch a let’s play (if that’s possible)
This isn't the Isekai ending that we didn't want.
Wait, what?!
I remember the last episode on DVD was a recap of everything that happened. I was already annoyed with how slow and boring the series was and that recap made me so pissed that I pawned the whole series.
I mean, the anime was released before the games. It's a prolog
A shindig of an ending lol
After the sign anime I found the Another Birth novel at my library and that how I was introduced to the game characters. 😂
That's also how I ended up collecting the light novels. 🤔
The one good thing about Sign is the OST.
yeah he is right
In other words, eat it ThatAnimeSnob.
If only there was a way you could have used "oh my god Bear is driving, how can that be"
Don't have to play the games. Helba is an established character in SIGN. Balmung is also referenced as a high leveled legendary player throughout the show. The characters are enhanced by the games...
But not NEARLY as enhanced as they were in the games. They finagled a role for Helba, but Balmung was barely more than a cameo
Lol
@@SitaraAleuSign not only took place prior to the games but was released first.
Okay.
going all in on plot is such a weird way to engage with this series
Suave
All of .hack sucked. It just looked cheap, and I mean cheaper than "Space Travellers" and the like, the writing was insufferably terrible, and above all, the whole " kid with a game-breaking guardian" thing is the absolute pinnacle of bad ideas. There are literally no stakes in this series. It's literally worse than the writing for most Gundam, and they give "new types" whatever powers they need at the moment.
It's like Star Trek does; make it up as they go.
"heavily-implied relationship" so, lesbians?
Damn shame the anime sucked. The video games are pretty great.
It doesn't just suck, the GAMES don't have an ending either, just sort of 'stopping' once you beat the final Phase of Morgana, supposedly killing her because of some bullshit that happens in the middle of the fight.
The last scene in the game is Orca, the guy Kite's been trying to rescue coming back and giving him a thumbs up.
Now, what was SUPPOSED to happen was that last episode of the OVA was included on the Liminality Disc, the games one four episode OVA that told of some events happening in the real world.
However, the games took a few months to localize, in that time, the series had an Omake episode made, you know, parody stuff made in a crap artstyle. Thing is, when the printed the Liminality vol 4 disks the included the final episode of the .Hack OVA as the extra, which was now that Omake episode.
So yeah, this was a failure of crossmedia...even if I still enjoyed the games.
There is a reason when they remade the .hack games, they skipped the original four, and went straight to the GU trilogy, and not just because of that whole rights issue with a criminal.
Actually according to one of the lead producers and the main developer of the series it was actually because they lost the original source codes to the first four games. That was the only reason why they skipped the first four games if they hadn't we would have had another Silent Hill HD Collection. The reason why the games didn't really have an ending is because the story continued through the manga, novels, and GU.
They actually lost the source code for the 1st four.
@@dustgraystone9448 yes they did it's actually not as uncommon as you would think. Konami lost the source codes to the first for Silent Hill games and when they were doing the HD Collection that was done using unfinished code hence why that turned out as it did. Square Enix faced a similar situation when trying to remaster the older Kingdom Hearts games for modern consoles the original Source codes were thrown out so they literally had to rebuild the game from unfinished code using the Japanese remixes.
Games were fun but endings were super underwhelming, it's like straight out of DOS games era
@@RedFoxReviewer didn't know that for Kingdom Hearts, but I did for Silent Hill. Really unfortunate.
- cringe -
yeah he is right
