I live in west Michigan and I've done the trail from lower to upper falls several times and my last hike we saw a family of otters in the river. This is the only time I've ever seen an otter in the wild. Pretty cool. Additionally, you can just take the trail past the lower falls and bit and walk across the river to the island. No need to take the row boat unless you don't want to get your feet wet. :)
Yes, the UP is relatively undeveloped. Distances can be rather long between towns, although the UP doesn't have any large cities. Food choices are limited in the cross road, abandon mining/ logging, RR stops. That is why a person visits the UP for the remoteness, quiet, scenery.
@@EatSeeRV Yes! We dove on shipwrecks. Spectacular dives. Cold, deep and the wrecks are well preserved by the fresh water. The Great Lakes are full of shipwrecks. I live a couple miles from Lake Michigan between Chicago and Milwaukee. I’ve gone diving in Lake Michigan and Lake Huron too in Georgian Bay. People who have never seen the Great Lakes always seem to be astounded by their shear size. Honestly, I’m always impressed too! I went to college in Ashland, Wisconsin which is on the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior. The “north coast” of the U.S. is truly remarkable.
Great video, love watching your reactions. But you skipped my favorite, going to the island on lower tahquamenon by small row boat. You're literally standing in a big root beer colored river with more falls on the other side! Happy and safe travels from Northern Michigan.!
Our daughter lives in the UP and we were just there a few years ago. You showed me things I didn’t know about the falls, things we will do next time. I’m enjoying your channel.
Well done video guys. Enjoyed the whole series. Just fyi - a few of the Michigan State Parks sites do have full hookup sites if you come back. Baraga has a busy road but is a good hub point to go from. South Higgins Lake, busy park but the view and access to Higgins is amazing. Hit that one during the week. Hartwick Pines - you both would really enjoy, beautiful, away from the hectic crowds, but nice hiking Enjoy your travels :).
Im up here at the Skoolie U.P event about an hr away from the falls. Google says its the largest falls in Michigan so I'm gonna try n see them b4 I head back into the lower pennisula.
As a young boy I remember camping in the UP and visiting the Spring. This was back most likely in the 1960s. I don't recall having to wait at all. Did you get a chance to visit the Mystery Spot? It may be closed now. Safe travels.
I grew up in SW Michigan.. NEVER went to the UP. Spent a ton of time in Northern mich.. Mackinaw island and weeks on Beaver Island ( go there)... but never ever the UP
I highly recommend getting to the UP for a visit as a fellow Michigander of the SE and only got my first real taste last fall. It's amazing. Waterfalls, terrain, massive forest and Lake Superior. It feels like a completely different state.
as a life-long Michigander ("troll", those that live under the Bridge lol), I'm so happy that you had a chance to visit a few of the beautiful places I love to visit as often as possible. the memories are priceless!
65 years ago you were allowed to actually walk behind / underneath the larger T Falls. Apparently the river wore away the top so you can't walk under it... or the state just said "no" to that practice
Beautiful video. I’ve been to the falls before. My Sister says there are 2 falls. I’ve been to the Sioux Lochs too when I was young. Went on a boat ride. It was fun abs beautiful. Glad you liked it there except it was cold in July. That’s typical weather for you for Michigan. Lol! Glad you met up with some utubers. Hope you are having fun. Have a great night. And week. See you soon!
Haha yes the weather is crazy here. The two falls (upper and lower) are just beautiful. I'm glad you got a chance to witness them yourself. Hope you are safe and well Sherri!
@@EatSeeRV To me Michigan is a beautiful state. I love it. Just don’t like when there’s a foot of snow. I like snow but not only for Christmas. I never been to Holland Michigan for the tulip festival but I knew people who had and they loved it. I did like the water you went to where it’s 45 degrees. That was nice hearing about it. My Mom’s from Calumet. That’s where the copper mines were and people made Pasties. They are known for making g them there. They are so good. Hope you continue to have fun and end up having better weather. Thank you for going there it brings back how beautiful it is. Have a great week and see you soon!
We just finished a round trip of Michigan and Wisconsin. Really liked Tahquamenon Falls area. I HIGHLY recommend Bond Falls as well (almost directly in middle of upper penn.)
the Nature blew me away! I loved the bee snooping around in the purple flowers! And the moth that looks like a hummingbird! When Dennis took a sniff of the flower and looks back at you it was priceless! :) Love everything you share here! Amazing nature!!
That is actually a humming bird moth. They visit my flower garden regularly here in mid Michigan. So glad that I plant the flowers. I get more enjoyment out of them than work put in.
Hey Guys, Thank you for highlighting my home state of Michigan! My SoCal friend referred to Tahquamenon Falls as "Taco Man Falls". All the Best & travel safely, Happily retired in beautiful Leelanau County!
good video at kitch-iti.... we did both T and K on our 2019 trip... go very early to avoid crowds... we have 3 legged cane/chairs... about $30... we used these at K. Lots of curious lookers. Glad so many vloggers met and did Michigan... only negative... you all spent too little time in our state... we just ended a 23 day trip in mostly the mitten.
I was there last year in September. I did 30 miles of hiking on the North Country Scenic Trail on the Lower & Upper Peninsulas, including the segment at TSP from the Lower to Upper Falls and back. I visited Sault Ste Marie as well and looked over into Canada from Brady Park. I also was at Mackinaw City and the fort. It gets windy up there, especially starting in September. I had temps in the upper 30s. I also went to Wilderness State Park and did some nice hiking.
About 25 mins from the falls there is a town called Newberry that has 2 grocery stores. They have some organic things - but in these areas for organic produce people usually go the the farmers markets. But people in and around the area generally do their grocery shopping in Newberry. Great footage of the area and happy to hear you enjoyed yourselves! There is also Pictured Rocks in Munising that are awesome to check out as well if you haven't! You have Lake Superior up in those areas (The falls, Pictured Rocks) and then Lake Michigan borders the south side. From the town of Newberry you have Lake Superior to the North about a 45 min drive and about a 45 minute drive to the south to hit Lake Michigan.
Yes we headed to Newberry after where we got some stuff before Kitch-iti-Kipi. We weren't there on farmers market days unfortunately. That's always our go to! Thanks for watching - Liz
You guys are so awesome thank you for visiting Michigan it’s such amazing beautiful place that a lot of people think it’s just Detroit that’s not it it is absolutely gorgeous
Absolutely stunning, that water, those colours, the clarity. Oh My Goodness. And those waterfalls- just magic. Looking forward to getting to now the area bit more. See you next week. 🙏 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱
I have a similar sized MH as you and like to travel without advanced reservations. I like to make a day or so in advance, maybe a week. Did you have advanced reservations for this trip or did you somewhat travel spontaneously? Loved your video an the UP is on my to visit list!
There isn't a lot of camping spots in the UP, so we did advance bookings and checked for cancelations regularly. But I'd say most state parks I booked months in advances. It's not our style of camping either, but there aren't much backup options. However, there are national forest campgrounds that offer first come first serve. We've stayed at those twice and they were LOVELY. So it can be done. You just may be in the boonies. - Liz
There is something so spectacular about the UP. There are so many beautiful places off the main roads. One can spend so much time exploring and still find something new and beautiful. Great video!
Fantastic drone footage there guys on the last drive. We are so blessed to have parks like this but can you imagine what our Native American people had to live within for so many thousands of years. They walked this land and lived off the same land we took so much for granted. Thanks Dennis for helping to keep our indigenous people’s history alive. Cheers!!!

Thank you for the tips. Such a cool place :)

Great videos!
This is near Big Two Hearted River, made famous by Hemingway.
Big Spring is my favorite, when we took Jack her grandson he HAD to be the only one to do the wheel hence his name was River Boat Jack that summer
Tahquamenon falls is a really nice place. I went scuba diving up there in Whitefish Bay. Stayed in the wee town of Paradise. Love the U.P.
Oh wow that sounds like a fun activity. Could you see much?

Congrats and thank you for traveling with us!
The falls are stunning. Beautiful place but I was bitten by mosquitoes.
Yes mosquitos can be intense in Michigan in summer.
65 degrees is a heat wave in the UP! Eight years or so ago there was still ice on lake superior in june!
Haha wow!
Maquette, then copper harbor
You guessed right! But forget Munising. :)
Not too much a wait....1 hour 15 minutes... lol... took me ten minutes to get on the boat.
Your face at the sight of a Kingfisher is worth the watch! :) Isn't God's creation wonderful! Enjoy and we'll keep watching!

Really lovely video. It makes me want to explore my own state more, lol. Apparently we have a lot to offer!
That's awesome. Do it! There's always so much to see and experience all around and many times we over look what's in our own backyard.
You guys should have stopped in Grand Rapids! There so many things and breweries
