If there is a single song that carries more human emotions I've not heard it. Love, hate, loneliness, rage, tenderness, compassion, strength, gentleness, fearfulness, resilience, etc. Forever in your debt Sinead thanks for the music.
I’ve seen her several times in live performances. This is my favorite song she wrote, and sadly I never saw her perform it live. This woman touched my soul with her music. I am heartbroken at the loss of her.
I do agree, but but but but “Drink before the War”” , was in my opinion, the best song ever. So simple ,but yet so emotional. And the very few lyrics that were in that song were so so deep. Crazy thing is she wrote it when she was 15 or 16 I think and didn’t like it at all and hardly performed it. Till this day, I rake the Internet looking for live versions of it.
It's beyond belief that she sung this song every bit as well as she did in her twenties. She was phenomenal. Really unsurpassed. Sínéad, you were a warrior.
most poignant and important comment ever. as usual, media, society, and world as a whole feel the need to vilify, disqualify, and discredit strong females.
she did not lose her career due to that. Sinead has so many demons of her own that she has battled. She's even been somewhat penitent about it, as i heard in an interview with Stern a few years back.
i don't think she lost her career at all, she is much better singer today and, what is more important, much better person. For being a succesful you don't need to sell, just to sing and make emotions burst, ans she is just excellent doing it, Apart from that, thanks to her fight againts abuses, she is respected and taken in consideration by good people who love
My God, you are so incredibly spot on.....yes yes yes to all u said. I've always felt that this whole album was special and this is one of two tracks that I consider life-changing. Her voice. I feel my heart burst with every phrase and her spirit is indeed so special. She's so horribly underrated. I'm hanging on every word. Such a rare show of true emotion, raw AF and viscerally sublime and primal. Beautiful. Legendary.
I remember seeing her on her first tour in 1987. She came out on stage, a tiny 20 year old woman with a shaved head in blue jeans, white t-shirt and a black leather jacket. She looked nervous but as soon as she started singing Jackie she took command of that stage for the entirety of the show. I haven't seen too many artists with this much stage presence. Her vocal range, even here, is nothing less than impressive.
Yeah, I saw the same tour at The World in NYC - pink tutu and jack-boots - The Smiths rhythm section. This is awesome with the orchestra - have you ever heard the dance remixes of it! Excellent too.
Young Sinead singing this with just her and a guitar, or older Sinead with a full orchestral accompaniment, so moving either way. Such a powerful person and voice. RIP.
The magnificence of the orchestral accompaniment is testament to, is response to, her singularly beautiful heart, soul and genius. Her torment was unfathomable, her fight unrelenting. Her music saved her. Rest in peace with your God now, dear Sinead, your true and eternal Savior
After all those times I listened to this song, it still gives me the chills. A tormented woman, standing there, all by herself, crying her heart out, not giving a damn how she looks, wow, that's really impressive!
We have just lost the woman who had the greatest voice of all time but who also wrote the greatest song of all time, this. The world will not be the same without her..
R.I.P. Sinéad O'Connor. Difficult and hard life you've had. Your music meant so much to me at one point in my life, for that I will always be grateful. Thank you. Love you
This is one of her best performances. Sinead is really a true artist, no heavy make-ups, props, just her voice and true emotions, no drama. RIP Sinead🌹
After hearing the sad news of her passing away, I stumbled upon this version of this magnificant song. For me, she will allways be remembered because of her beautiful, emotional and yet powerful voice. I hope she has found the peace she was looking for. R.I.P. Sinéad O'Connor (8 december 1966 - 26 juli 2023)
I'm just crying listening to it.... She was still able to sing this difficult and beautiful song. Her music helped me so much during a dark period in my life and it's so sad she's gone. RIP, great soul.
Nobody compares to you Sinead, very ironic but massively true...you spoke up for the children that had no voice and you did it with the look and voice of an Angel.....you make me proud to be Irish.
Rust zacht schoonheid.
Wow, just wow...this is why she'll be remembered forever. An utterly unique voice. Pure raw angelic intensity. And that effervescent smile at the end! Thank you Sinead ❤
The energy of her younger years was immense but as she's gotten older she seems to have concentrated more on the quality of her vocal performances and it's fantastic :)
Always, always a a feckin inspiration. We went to see her doing a turn in Manchester, our home town for four decades. Can't remember the year, but it was early on. The breathtaking beauty of her voice was beautiful. X
well put! some are deeply moved, others not. hard to understand how people are not affected by this, but then again, i hate "Come Together" by the Beatles - an absolute sacrilegious opinion to some!
Breathtaking!!! What can I say this song is so passionate and it doesn’t matter how many times you listen to it whether it’s the official version or life several years…. Leaves me completely emotional and gets my hair standing up on my arms. One of the greatest songs ever. RIP ❤️

Before there was Alanis Morrisette, there was Sinéad O'Connor, before there was The Cranberries, there was The Lion & The Cobra. Remember that always. Honor Sinéad as the first of her kind, because she was. RIP brave warrior. We, your fans, love you. ❤️ 😢🙏
Brave, sensitive talented. If I never make it to Ireland, I'll be happy that your music trespassed the borderlines and is here with me and has been since a long time ago. It is so sad I will never attend a concert given by you. I would give you a hug from all my hearth, I would tell you how loved and admired you still are. RIP Dear sinnead.
Struggling with difficult mental health issues myself, this video hit hard, you can hear the despair, sadness, and anxiety in her voice. Such an amazing woman, strong, before her time and her voice it's absolutely fantastic and beautiful! She'll most certainly be missed. 🖤🖤🖤
I wish this women didnt feel so alone when so many of us hold her in our hearts. Her death affected me way more then i thought possible. Like i lost a long time friend. Rip u beautiful true soul. Forever part of my past presant and future ❤
She is not gone her spirit lives on through me and her music I have picked up since the day after she passed her mission on to me. Peace be with you pray for us there are more of us she speaks to. Be safe. She is not gone. She will rise just like this song. Do you think all she did was wasted? No it’s only the beginning of a very bright future 🎉
She really is a phoenix that rose from the flames ! Much respect Sinead! We love ya ! One of the most powerful female artists out there and every time she nails it
She was such a special person, beautiful woman, fabulous voice, unique!!! You will be missed so much! May God now bring you the peace you so deserve, all my love Yasmin xx Goodnight, God bless dearest Sinaed
I have bought all her records right from the start and I so regret never seeing her live.... I still think this is her best song. Thanks for posting this 👍
Sinead that was just lovely live version of troy, with the live orchestra and you were so sweet and nice at the end. I miss you and your amazing powerful singing voice and your great talent for song writing and records amazingly fabulous songs and doing amazingly artist live shows. (Slan Sinead) - Love and Best Wishes Craig - London - UK. XxXxX.
God I love her,her whole life was one big tragedy from childhood on. A piece of my heart died when you passed! I hope God is holding your hand right now!! I love you Sinead!!!!!!
This is my favorite of her songs (and it's been running through my head all day, as it often does). I love the way it starts with a description of such youthful innocence ("We were SO young then we thought everything we could POSSIBLY do was right"--exactly, like pretty much all of us as young people) and works its way through the relationship of which she sings in all its stages until the raging, magnificent "You're still a liar." The entire album still stuns me after all these years--aside from Sinead's incomparable voice (and how ridiculously beautiful she was), the songs and the arrangements are just so complex and sophisticated and evocative. (And I would have torn that picture in half too, and felt perfectly justified. No one wanted to hear the truth then, or even now, but she was willing to destroy her career to make her point.)
RIP sinead, may you rest in warm love and be togheter with your son know in peace.thank you lovely soul🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Such a voice, so powerful in it's truth and vunerability. R.I.P. Sinead, you deserve it after all you went through and all you fought. Thank You for your courage and your voice.
Say what you want about her some of you. My guess is you weren't there from '87-'91. Sure, she came in like a raging fire that burned out too quickly but for a short time there was nothing like her. Maybe you had to be there in '87 when she shook up the music world with a stunning debut album unlike anything at that time. Saw her only once, about twelve years after "Lion", as a second tier opening act for Lilith Fair. By that time the fire was almost completely out as she barely responded to a crowd that couldn't have cared less of her previous stature and accomplishments. The 1988 performance of this song at Dominion Theater alone is testament to the star power and charisma she once possessed as she stood there like a Joan Of Arc mythic figure slaying the audience with just one song. So glad I was there in the beginning to experience this amazing artist at her peak.
Completely agreed on the Joan of Arc part. I Was there in 1988 Pinkpop - there is a video for that. The sheer anger has completely gone from the voice, but its still enough to give me wet eyes. Still own Lion/Cobra album - its a classic in its own league.
also important to mention that at the time she was vilified for her opinions, but more than that her appearance alone was enough for mainstream audiences to ridicule her before she sang one note. oh how far we've come; today, luckily - oh wait ...
LOL...who give a fuck if she responded to some moronic crowd of housewives or not? Boring fucks living boring lives that buy a ticket to a concert...so what? Why the fuck should anyone respond to a crowd of ignorant fucks?
If there is a single song that carries more human emotions I've not heard it. Love, hate, loneliness, rage, tenderness, compassion, strength, gentleness, fearfulness, resilience, etc. Forever in your debt Sinead thanks for the music.
Beautifully said ❤

My favourite song from her! 💗
Years ago this little girl fought like a lion against the abuses in the church. And lost her career. Respect Sinead!
most poignant and important comment ever. as usual, media, society, and world as a whole feel the need to vilify, disqualify, and discredit strong females.
she did not lose her career due to that. Sinead has so many demons of her own that she has battled. She's even been somewhat penitent about it, as i heard in an interview with Stern a few years back.
She does have large personal demons. Still an incredible talent, inspirational.
i don't think she lost her career at all, she is much better singer today and, what is more important, much better person. what kind of abuses? what she's exactly revolted against? Im asking because I discovered her recently
This is the most magnificent song ever. A woman's raw emotion, she is holding a sacred feminine energy that we rarely see these days.

I must be a woman then. I always felt that song in my soul.
When she sings "and I love you... God I love you... I'd kill a dragon for you ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh die" I still cry.
i was going to add something snappy but....you explained it perfectly...well said
Yeah its so raw I felt it

Same for me - " hi, I'm Sinead and I'm going to sing" so shy but blew us away!
Yeah, I saw the same tour at The World in NYC - pink tutu and jack-boots - The Smiths rhythm section. This is awesome with the orchestra - have you ever heard the dance remixes of it! Excellent too.
There are dance remixes of this too?
That truly must've been amazing. She was my first girl crush, and my god, her first album was absolutely fantastic. ❤

She looked great
She was real.

The voice that defines why humans created in the first place...... Respect from Tanzania 🇹🇿
That voice. Her presence. Her vulnerability. Her courage. We can only hope that she’s at peace. She gave us a lot in a short time. Rest well ❤

Good grief!! This woman makes me feel every emotion that I can possibly feel every time I hear her sing. I love you Sinead!
+Michele Johnson-Utter Just read what i wrote!
I grew up with the studio version of this song and never thought to see her do it live. Amazing performance.

Avec cette orchestre symphonique un moment unique ! Quelle performance !
Me 2
Such a voice, so powerful in it's truth and vunerability. R.I.P. Sinead, you deserve it after all you went through and all you fought. Thank You for your courage and your voice.
God what a performance!!! An orchestra! Wow
after all these years, she still has 'it'
I read this while I thought it :)
Respect for her
my favorite song as a in-love-teenager, it was the first song I had to listen when i heard the terrible news R.I.P.
This is far and away one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. Such beauty and strength.
What a legend. show your babies love for Sinead
😔😪💔🙏
She sang like an angel. I think she still does ♥
It takes guts to sing this song again so many years later this way...respect for everything you ment in this world.
Its so like she deserves so much more respect.
Love you siinead rip ♥️♥️🇦🇺
Grandissima Bravissima.Tutte le canzoni sono Bellissime. R.P.I.e Buon Viaggio.
RIP Sinead I will play this song again and again in tribute ❤
What an amazing talent. I've loved her voice for 25 years now. This song still stands up and the orchestra adds to it beautifully.
This song guided me through the worst betrayal of my life. My first love sleeping with a red head behind my back. I eventually rose like a Phoenix 😔
What a performance! God I love her... I wish I could hug her every day and make her smile... laugh and sing.. nothing more. she is a treasure
Absolutely amazing!
Rest in eternal peace, my sister Sinead O'Connor
Still... one of the most amazing live performances ever caught on film.
Nothing like her then, now or ever will be again Yes Yes A one off that's for sure
also important to mention that at the time she was vilified for her opinions, but more than that her appearance alone was enough for mainstream audiences to ridicule her before she sang one note. oh how far we've come; today, luckily - oh wait ...
LOL...who give a fuck if she responded to some moronic crowd of housewives or not? Boring fucks living boring lives that buy a ticket to a concert...so what? Why the fuck should anyone respond to a crowd of ignorant fucks?
And then, afterwards, came all the fakes. The ones with the voice but without the emotion.
