  • In this video, I show how I go about adding lighting to a room using a single outlet. This project can range between relatively easy to relatively difficult, depending on circumstances of the house. Always check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) to make sure you are completing projects according to your jurisdiction's code as they can vary quite a bit from location to location.

      can you run 14/2 to light off 12/2 wire from box ?

    • @vanstromi7810
      @vanstromi7810 9 місяців тому

      Honestly, no. As a DIYer, I don’t have a clue how you ran/fished wire or what type of wire you used here, what kinds of boxes we need etc. Running the wiring and knowing where to pull from (don’t know where your power is coming in). Are there limitations on wiring types, what you can pull electrical off of? Are you using power from an existing outlet? How do you do this when the outlet is 3 feet to the left or non-existent?

      @vanstromi7810 most of that was in the video. I suggest you hire an electrician.

    Huh, I’ve never seen anyone push the wires into a Wago before, kind of like a push-in connector . I’ve always opened the lever before inserting them. That was illuminating. I just might start doing that, have to try it out. Seems like it could be convenient especially when you have your hands full.

    Great video, and very helpful. Question; I moved an outlet a few feet up my wall - with guidance from a previous video you made - but I also wanted to add a light switch next to the new outlet that I moved (making some strip lights for a cabinet set up). Can I use power from the outlet that was moved up the wall for the new light switch, or do I have to wire an additional wire for the light switch, from the original outlet? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!!

    My outlet has a romex 3 wire coming in to the plug and a romex 3 wire going out. Does that mean the plug is not at the end of the circuit (like the plug in your example). What is the best way to connect the wires going to the new switch to the existing plug? I want to use a motion detector switch instead of the usual switch. Will that present any problem?
    I think your video is well made and rehearsed- there isn’t any wasted time. Thanks.

    On the ground wire, iv seen where they take one wire and twist it around the other wire like a inch from the end than put the j-hook in the end that the wire was twisted around. Is that ok for the ground wire?

    The outlet has both neutral & hot terminals already are used. I believe one is going to the ceiling fan. Is it possible to add another light to the same outlet by pigtailing all three wires(hot,fan,light) & connecting to just one terminal?..doing same to neutrals. thank you.

    I want to do this with the switch being for an outside flood light. Is it ok to use 12 gauge wire if the outlet has 14 gauge wire? The reason i ask is i have a roll of 12/2.

    What about just using radio remote? Also 15A 120V made sense when bulbs were 75w to 120w, but with low power bulbs we have now a 12v or 24v system may be an overall win.

    Hi. Great video. I learned a lot on the basic, what to do or how to address air in the hydraulic system. But say you have water in the system . From adding contaminated oil or mistakenly leaving the cap off and rain water got in the reservoir. How can I remove the water and flush the contaminated oil out and replace it with Clean new oil?

      all you need is to run a wire/14/2 from the closet light source to the new install location. At the box where you added a 14/2 splice them together with the existing, add tails for all wires and resplice them to the ex light. At the new location its just one set of wires and splice to the light.

    • @TimSEnos
      @TimSEnos Рік тому

      @iiConFuZze so pigtail or splice from nearest light? How should I connect new wires to single interior light switch? Could this be too much for this switch if another outlet is also on this circuit?
