- In this video, I show how I go about adding lighting to a room using a single outlet. This project can range between relatively easy to relatively difficult, depending on circumstances of the house. Always check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) to make sure you are completing projects according to your jurisdiction's code as they can vary quite a bit from location to location.

Was this interesting or helpful to you? This was a popular request in the comments of other videos. Do you have any projects you would like to see here on the channel in the future? Thank you for your input! 🙂
can you run 14/2 to light off 12/2 wire from box ?
Honestly, no. As a DIYer, I don’t have a clue how you ran/fished wire or what type of wire you used here, what kinds of boxes we need etc. Running the wiring and knowing where to pull from (don’t know where your power is coming in). Are there limitations on wiring types, what you can pull electrical off of? Are you using power from an existing outlet? How do you do this when the outlet is 3 feet to the left or non-existent?
@vanstromi7810 most of that was in the video. I suggest you hire an electrician.
Nice! Special Thanks to all you guys on youtube, helping a lot of us save a TON of money with great videos like this 🙏
Best description for easy installations. Excellent!!
Extremely helpful video. Great video quality and straightforward information. 👍🏿
Great videos! Very clear.
This is my new favourite channel
You have a clear way of explaining electrical issues. Would you do a segment on converting a four foot fluorescent light fixture to LED while removing the ballast.
Very helpful!
Great video. Thanks
Another project done ✅ thank you 😊
You are very welcome. As always, thanks a lot for the feedback Clarence!
Huh, I’ve never seen anyone push the wires into a Wago before, kind of like a push-in connector . I’ve always opened the lever before inserting them. That was illuminating. I just might start doing that, have to try it out. Seems like it could be convenient especially when you have your hands full.
need to add a new light over my sister's kitchen sink and new switch...this does it. Thanks
Great video, and very helpful. Question; I moved an outlet a few feet up my wall - with guidance from a previous video you made - but I also wanted to add a light switch next to the new outlet that I moved (making some strip lights for a cabinet set up). Can I use power from the outlet that was moved up the wall for the new light switch, or do I have to wire an additional wire for the light switch, from the original outlet? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!!
Thank you for this tutorial which I have been looking for a long time. This really helped me. Can you also please show on how to add switch from existing ceiling light fixture?
My outlet has a romex 3 wire coming in to the plug and a romex 3 wire going out. Does that mean the plug is not at the end of the circuit (like the plug in your example). What is the best way to connect the wires going to the new switch to the existing plug? I want to use a motion detector switch instead of the usual switch. Will that present any problem?
I think your video is well made and rehearsed- there isn’t any wasted time. Thanks.
On the ground wire, iv seen where they take one wire and twist it around the other wire like a inch from the end than put the j-hook in the end that the wire was twisted around. Is that ok for the ground wire?
There's an old saying in the electrical trades , Black on Brass will save your A$$..... No disrespect to your vid , but it's a useful rhyme that has stuck with me since I was a young boy , helping out my dad's electrician's hired to wire the houses he built ....
The outlet has both neutral & hot terminals already are used. I believe one is going to the ceiling fan. Is it possible to add another light to the same outlet by pigtailing all three wires(hot, fan, light) & connecting to just one terminal?..doing same to neutrals. thank you.
What do I do with the two existing set of romex wires that’s in the existing receptacle?
I want to do this with the switch being for an outside flood light. Is it ok to use 12 gauge wire if the outlet has 14 gauge wire? The reason i ask is i have a roll of 12/2.
What if the receptacle you want to tap into is a GFCI receptacle with the reset switch? Is it possible?
This might not be relevant but, do u have any suggestions on how to remove a light switch cover that is held in place with concrete? 😮
What about Light switch controls Socked Plug for Lamp. Need help
How did u magically end up with another ground? You pigtailed the 2 and tucked them in the bix
What about just using radio remote? Also 15A 120V made sense when bulbs were 75w to 120w, but with low power bulbs we have now a 12v or 24v system may be an overall win.
Hi. Great video. I learned a lot on the basic, what to do or how to address air in the hydraulic system. But say you have water in the system . From adding contaminated oil or mistakenly leaving the cap off and rain water got in the reservoir. How can I remove the water and flush the contaminated oil out and replace it with Clean new oil?
Why did you rewire the outlet?
I have 3 exterior lights that use one interior light switch. How should I add/wire the last 4th exterior light using the same switch?
all you need is to run a wire/14/2 from the closet light source to the new install location. At the box where you added a 14/2 splice them together with the existing, add tails for all wires and resplice them to the ex light. At the new location its just one set of wires and splice to the light.
@iiConFuZze so pigtail or splice from nearest light? How should I connect new wires to single interior light switch? Could this be too much for this switch if another outlet is also on this circuit?
Isn’t that risky tho ? But is any interesting yet very informative I like it
I guess you're allowed to mix lighting and GPO on a single circuit in the USA, interesting.
Yes
Because most ppl are going to have an electrical outlet directly below the new switch 🤦♂️
This was addressed in the video. 🙄
Actually yes where I added a switch off an existing plug the switch is direct below and I’m about to do it again. Just he remind how to wire it
Are you okay mentally? He created where the switch was going to be based on where the outlet was. In other words, you can put your switch wherever you want and he showed us how!
This video is NOT good for a beginner
You definitely should not do it then.
@@HowToHomeDIY not using your video, I won’t
It definitely sounds like should call an electrician. Stop watching UA-cam videos on it and call a pro.
@@HowToHomeDIY While he's at it, he should let us all know what hospital he "administers" so that we can go to another, better hospital.
Video answered the question I needed answered, and worked just fine for me. Some people just like to criticize others. It makes them feel more speshull...
Terrible video. U didn’t even show behind the wall for beginners to see where the power is coming from.
Not helpful.
Neither are most of the comments you ever leave on my videos Wayne. But I appreciate them nonetheless 🫶
@@HowToHomeDIY I'm not the one who purports to be the expert helping people.
You want a helpful comment? How about addressing some of the problems people run into in the real world rather than your idealized sanitized versions of how repairs are made.
You don’t have to watch them. You know that right? But yet you do and always have something negative to say whether it’s towards me or someone else in the comments. Again I do appreciate the comments though, they help the video! See you in the next one I’m sure 😂
