Built in 1891 Ian. Most people round here hate it, getting a team to play Painswick away in a club match is difficult. I love the challenge - just not too often!
Nice shooting Playa. I'm also Gloucestershire based. Played Painswick a few times and once bought my Dad to walk the course with me and I shot 68 off the yellows off a 14 handicap! A day out! Fond memories of this brilliant course.
It's a good test of your mind and if you get it right you can go low. I shall be back there this summer, I always try and get 1 round a year there. Cheers.
Still think this is the best course vlog made by any youtuber. I just played his course today (82) loads of siilly doubles. Enjoying the vlog of this wonderful course vlog eating a kebab on the sofa Keep going Simon !
It's an easy track Gary right up to the moment you think you can over power it with a driver. That is where most people go wrong. At least it's open this time of year, Gloucester isn't and with rain predicted the next 2 weeks I can't see it opening anytime soon.
@thehairygolfer having 18 holes open is exactly why we went.my club only has 11 and 5 of those are temporary greens. Went to Stockwood Vale on Monday, which as extremely good, even the tees were grass.
@@streamleazefishhouse None of us have played. The kids have been busy with their houses, the course has either been closed or carry only. Course closed again today, I'll go to the range later and hit a few.
I didn't go down any steep banks for a change. I did lose a ball - the provisional after I sliced on 11. I found the first and lost a perfectly good ball with my provisional. Dumb!
@@thehairygolfer not as dumb as thinking that ball was safe and having to walk back to the tee. I did that in the club championships last year, 4th round
I got lucky a number of times in that round. Especially in the long grass on 11. I lost my provisional which was an even worse tee shot! LOL The chipping was especially lucky in places. I will be playing it again this year for a bit of fun.
@@martinwestwood2798 I haven't won much in terms of ordinary sunday comps. I won the singles knockout 6 times at Gloucester and the doubles once with my Dad. My last 2 wins were the county AM-AM 2019 where I shot 72 and I won the clubnight season 2019 where I was sat 3rd in the last week and shot 2 under gross for the front 9 and leapfrogged into 1st. It was run like the Fed Ex Cup. I won Presidents Day once around 2012 when I shot a gross 69. 2013 I came 2nd in the club championship gross which was quite an achievement. The 6 singles was the best. Nobody is ever going to get close to that. There is only one guy who has won it twice and he doesn't play anymore.
@@martinwestwood2798 Martin, I used to build my practice around the next knockout round, almost like a Pro building up for a major. There was a guy at Gloucester, enormous hitter, he could drive 400 yard par 4's with ease. Great all round short game and putting. Sadly he struggled with the mental aspect of the game. Never made it. It's a very hard exam paper.
They knocked down my house to make the 10th green. I remember one match when we played over the wall into the 5th and we got on the green and couldn't find any balls. A dog walker or some kids had put all 4 balls in the hole 😂😂😂😂
Another very nice video. I ought to like Painswick - not much call for driver, you have to think your way around. But I've never enjoyed it, apart from the views which are superb. And as you say, the archaeology of it all.
Is that course as incredible as it looks? Looks great to me, and shouldn’t be underestimated by the look of it. Thanks for vlogging it, you played it well👍
It is very interesting with deep rough and steep drop offs. I should have showed more of that especially round the 2nd and 12th greens if you miss. I did not expect to score so well, got lucky with the chipping on the 3rd, 6th and 7th. Not to mention finding my ball on the 11th. I lost my provisional though! I over corrected and hit it well left. A lot of people round here don't like it but I accept the challenge so I think that's why I do okay.
You made Painswick look easy, I play off 16 (unofficial) and have shot over 100 there twice. I see you have also played Gloucester which I've played many times I will check that video out next. I haven't played either course in the last 18 months.
I started at Painswick and as a 120 shooter would lose a dozen balls in a round. A few years back I had an important match there and I went up and walked round the week before and measured off the holes and came up with a plan in order to win. It's a course that some people hate but they tend to be the people who try and over power it with driver everywhere. The holes right at the top of the beacon can be very difficult when the wind blows. I got lucky on that day. My son kept the card so I didn't quite know what I was scoring. I got lucky on 11 after slicing into the deep stuff. My provisional was worse and lost. I could have been 5 off the tee there.
Pack the balls and leave the ego at home. Just hit whatever gets the ball into ball and you will be fine. You can get round it easily with nothing bigger than a 4 iron. Good luck, hope it isn't windy for you.
@@thehairygolfer Decent day. Scored 37 points off 18. Double bogied 8 and 9 (both par 5's). Lots of ramblers about. They need a traffic light system around the 4th tee though, as we had a long wait due to golfers/ramblers/cars.
@@darrenshallis2386 That's a good score for not knowing the course. 8 & 9 can be both awkward and you can lose your ball to any number of dogs! 4 and 13 can be a nightmare to tee off on. One time playing the 5th, that little par 3 into the hill fort, we walked round onto the green and there wasn't a ball to be seen. Some bugger had put all 4 balls in the hole.
