      The back 9 is out on the 11th. It's a bit hilly.
      I'm safe. Stuck at home. We now have 309 confirmed cases in the county out of 640,000 residents. So I don't panic when I go out for a walk to the shop.

    Your new Course looks like a nice track. One of the many reasons why I don't play winter golf anymore is teeing off from mats, not sure why but I always struggle hitting off them! Must be a mental thing, but then again I am pretty mental lol

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      These mats aren't too bad. I think it's a box full of sand and astro turf over the top. You can't get a tee in very far but you can play off them okay. It's a tricky course - the back 9 is where it gets really interesting.

      I hit a better one with my new 3 wood. The shaft just talks to me. Best 3 wood I've had for 10 years. Please let me out of the house!

    Member there many years ago. Great course, many fond memories. Greens always tricky and when playing matches visitors could never read the greens.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  2 роки тому

      My Dad was here for 22 years. I was a junior here for 1 year. Very tough course and learning the greens is imperative! I just try and remember as much as I can.
      But as a visitor playing matches and society days I was lost! Once putted off the 15th green into the bunker! 😂😂😂 Cheers

      @@thehairygolfer very easily done on the 15th. 12th also next to impossible in the summer when the pin was at the bottom of the slope. Looks like they have done a lot of work on the course. I was a member until 1989 when I moved to Somerset. Now in Forest of Dean at Forest Hills.

      @@simonhutt6424 12 is a hole I celegrate a par on. A very rare score. It's a brute.
      Forest Hills is a tough course. I remember it a long time back as a par 66 or 67 I think. Then they bought some extra land and expanded it. If I ever shoot my handicap round there I'm pretty proud of that. It's unforgiving.
      There are rumours that the 12th green will be rebuilt to make it fairer, but then they have been talking about extending 15 & 16 to make par 5's for at least 2 decades.
      Lot of work done, being paid for by dumping builders spoil on the practice ground, last autumn they renewed every inch of the sprinklers and pipework. 280 grand I think.

    • @thehairygolfer

      I don't think so! The club has 4 scratch golfers and 2 + handicappers. Lowest is +1.7 I'm not sure I'm going to beat those guys in a scratch competition. At my age! 😂😂😂😂 Next year now too. 36 hole medal is tough. Came second in 2013 though at Gloucester Golf Club.

      @@agolferswalk The trees are always full of long drivers. Never once been worried about anybody who had 30 yards on me. But I'm older now! Thankyou for the pep talk.
      I won 6 singles knockouts at Gloucester Golf Club. Nobody will ever match that. Since 1975 only 1 person has won it twice so I think I'm safe. They get about 150 entries so you have to win 7 or 8 rounds over the season with the final in September. Hardest round is the semi final. I lost 4 semis which always burns me.
      I don't seem to have that fire in my belly anymore.

    If you're a straight driver, the greens look like the course's only defense (are there any bunkers or hazards?).. They seem fast; you had no trouble getting the ball to the hall this round.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      There aren't many bunkers. The defense in not having a flat lie on the course and the greens having plenty of borrow and speed.
      Plus of course the trees. 40 years ago you could play the course from the wrong fairway - not possible now. They do a generous first cut of rough but after that it's just deep enough to make you have to hit loft. Plus it's a par 69 so 3 par 5's are missing. Scratch is 71 so it does play tough from the proper tees. The mats are quite a bit shorter.

      We are shut down till the 13th of April and I expect them to add 2 or 3 weeks to that. It's quite depressing but the Govt. is reacting to what is happening in the Cities rather than rural locations.
      Not sure a petition is going to work here.
      People out in the park on their own are being fined and yet people are cramming on the London underground every day. Go figure??

    Looks like a good track! Looking forward to seeing the back nine. Bunch of good putts as well sir around 6,7,8! Seems like they are putting a good amount of money into the course as well. What is that bell for?

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому +1

      Back 9 is out on the 11th Barnaby. It's the character and heart attack part of the course. The bell is there as it's a blind tee shot with the reservoir in the way. One of my playing partners should have waited and rung it as I was the longest driver playing last. But as you can see they had fucked off 70 yards down the fairway and left me to it.

    • @golfinginparadise
      @golfinginparadise 4 роки тому +1

      Hairy Golfer ah good stuff looking forward to seeing the rest of the course! Is it a lot shorter that your old club? Hahah yea not the best playing partners then! That’s one of the best things about joining a new place is finding some new playing partners unfortunately that means you will have to deal with a bunch of muppets first

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      @@golfinginparadise It's 300 yards shorter but a par 69 instead of 72. The scratch is 71 so on paper it's harder. I think it might be easier for the way I play my game. We will find out this summer.
