In an interview, Marty said he was really proud of this solo & that after laying it down in the studio, Mustaine didn't say anything but shook his hand.
ToastedCigar WOW thanks a lot man, that's some important stuff to me to understand this bewitched book that is Rust in peace, especially when he talks about Hangar 18 because indeed, Marty really came from outer space with those solos, thank you
Everything you could want from a solo: Great tone, extremely melodic, great dynamics, blindingly fast in stretches, a great repeating lick, and completely unique to Marty Friedman
Can vouch . That 18th/19th fret on the high e string really does like to snap there when you bend it beyond a full step. Broke the string at a guitar shop the other day when trying to hit this exact note.
PURE FUCKING GOLD!!..Trying to learn this solo note for note, nuance by nuance just makes you aprecciate Friedman even more...its not only weird bends and awesome vibrato, but absolute control of the pick attack and dynamics...thats why he never sounded like an accurate robot like so many others who try to cover this solo... he really have a deep intuitive connection with the guitar
THERE IS SO MUCH FLAVOR. You are spot on with the nuance, it really reminds me of Jeff Beck in that someone could play the same notes, but the feel and dynamics, the random grace notes, slides, etc could never be replicated.
Marty's the man. Can't remember a better guitarist, tonally speaking.. This guy just always delivers and always manages to surprise his audience. This is one original guitarist.
Check out the end of Bark of the Moon- Jake E Lee playing arpeggio patterns that no doubt influenced the middle of this solo. There’s an isolated track here on YT
Ive been practicing this solo for years. I'm around 60-65% speed on the fast sweep parts at the end of it, the rest is not hard. The sweep parts and the fast weird lick at the end are. If I push I could reach 75% but sloppy. I definitely gotten better at it compared to 2 years ago. This video also helped a lot to figure out the right notes as most tabs and lessons on youtube suck ass. Maybe one day I'll be able to play at full speed, then I will feel whole
I like how Marty only needs the single first bend of this solo to beat the crap out of all Broderick has ever done with Megadeth. No hate on him, awesome guitarist also, he did great on Endgame!
Now this is an example of how fast passages don't necessarily mean a solo without some feel. This is just every note at the right spot, right time and right duration, fast ones included. And besides, "just speed" is not a skill good enough to play legatos as fluent as Marty does.
I might be wrong, but this sound more like a rendition by Broderick... Lacking the touch of emotion and ghost cords which is Friedman... But I stand corrected... I might've been wrong...
Back in the day when Megadeth had Marty Friedman. (Drum click, kickin guitar) Dave yelling:"you ain't got no Marty Fried! You ugly! You ugly! (Brutal Death metal)
....I've been playing guitar for 20+ years. Look on my channel. When I record it doesn't sound like this. It's not the "distortion fuzz" -- it sounds like he really could have used a noisegate. Anyway, watch a recent video from Marty -- sounds clean as fuck -- no noise at all.

This solo is right up there with Mr Crowley in terms of all time greatest solos, BRILLIANT WORK!
Randy is my favorite guitarist of all time and I think this tops Mr.crowley by a pretty decent amount.
Gas Master agreed
@@Scrimbus_McBimbus Yeah this one is better.
oh come on, Mr Crowley was good, the guitarist was amazing but this solo from Marty it's higher, competing with Highway Star or That Smell from Lynyrd

+Walamonga 1313 Yes!
He's also a melodic mastermind. He knows how to apply music theory in a way unlike anyone else
Sorry, but Chris Poland is horrible compared to Marty. Just shredding stuff.
I suggest you listen to Black Friday

Lior Rotstein mediocre?? idk man kiko is pretty good

Listen to his work on Angra, and come back later Lior.
