  • When Topps started printing their 1982 set, they realized a little late that they had run out of black ink for some cards. It resulted in what is known as the 1982 Topps Blackless set, and a few of the cards have a ton of value! Here's the story.

      A friend of mine discovered the 1982 Pascual Perez no position card. It had the black, but Pitcher was missing. He sold 499 of them in SCD, all that he found, for $29.99. PSA pop is 82. Different find from the Blackless.

    Must agree that there is more interesting rarities in the history of cards that get no publicity for different reasons. The '82 blackless is a really cool one.
    Having grown up down the street from the Topps factory, I have heard many stories from family and friends that worked there and also some of the strangest and rarest items that get no love except by those in the know.
    Special set releases, odd-ball cards, errors, employee issues and test runs.

    Interestingly enough I received a Blackless label on my 82 George Brett by PSA back in 2015 it graded a PSA 10 Blackless, I never knew what the Blackless was until the card came back labeled "BLACKLESS" upon research I clearly knew that PSA made a mistake because it too had the Facsimile Auto on the front. I was quite excited because the card came from a Vending case I had purchased and I thought I had hit the motherload as there were surely more of the Blackless cards in my possession but unfortunately there was none, but I had fun searching the rest of the vending boxes for them though. Thanks for sharing this video it brought back some good memories and reminded me that I had a PSA error card in my collection.

    I don't know anything about these, lol and I pride myself on my card knowledge..... I did pull the Thomas NNOF when I was a kid. I remember it as clear as day because when I pulled it - it wasn't a listed or known error and I remember thinking to myself that I got ripped off, lol... That's why I remember it... I was like "WTF??" .. Then I just put it with my other 90 Topps Thomas' I had at the time (I had a ton, but that is a totally insane situation within itself, lol) And I only remember this because I'm from Chicago myself so when I pulled the card the "Big Hurt" was huge, but his name wasn't on the card and I found that so bizarre...... BTW, you find them in vending boxes - that is where I pulled mine...

    What interesting is one has to assume if you stumbled upon a blackless box it would have a bunch of blackless cards. I wonder if they were printing for wax, cello or vending boxes that day.

    • @brentdesroches7580
      @brentdesroches7580 Рік тому +1

      My understanding from the research was that many of them went into cello packs, and generally an entire cello pack would be full of blackless cards. This is what I believe made it possible for someone to collect so many at once.

    Thank you for a wonderful detailed story! Myself, I used to let people know if there were cards either listed not correct or labeled wrong, esp. player names spelled incorrectly in listings. The grief / snarky remarks I got back notifying people that something was off has lead me to now not care about their mistake and I will take advantage any chance I can. Just saw a SSP listed/sold that I hadn't been following and thought - someone got a great deal, no pity for the seller. Am I a jerk? Maybe a couple years ago I would think yes.....not now. Thanks!

    Well, my bread and butter is buying card lots on eBay looking for "hidden gems" and I've found thousands at this point.. I mean what looks like typical junk can actually turn out to be extremely valuable if you know what to look for.... Look, just the other day I found and won a Mario Lemieux lot on eBay for .99 cents, and on face value it looked like "junk" HOWEVER, one of the cards in the lot was a 95 Donruss which on it's own is no big deal, but this one was a Donruss "Press Proof" to /2000 - which obviously seems like a high number for a numbered card today but it really isn't when you consider how many cards were produced during the junk wax era.. I mean it's not a huge score, but it is a $15-20 dollar card... So yea.... I've always thought about if I was being dishonest for buying cards or card lots on eBay that were just poorly described or labeled wrong - but I don't think so.. My logic is that it's not my fault someone else screwed up - if they cared enough about what they're selling they would have done their research and the fact they didn't shows me they don't care... Moreover it's not like these cards or lots aren't open for everyone to bid so if collectors/dealers notice there is an extremely valuable card in a lot then that lot will go for market value... My point is that collectors/dealers need to know what they're doing and those selling cards need to know what they have so I'm not going to blame anyone that gets a steal on eBay...... I will say tho, it does suck when you find a really nice lot on eBay and you're confident no one else sees what you see and then at the last moment someone snipes you, lol.... That just happened to me on a baseball lot on eBay... There were like 8 Henderson rookies in this lot with a plethora of other good cards from the 70's and 80's and it went for like $300, and I was prepared to pay $500 easily, lol - so yea, I was (and still am) kinda jaded that I lost that one... But look, that's how it goes - I mean I'm sure in the next week or two I'll find a "home run" and forget all about that auction, lol.

    As a 60 year old now, I've been out of the hobby since the early 90's because I knew when Score and Upper Deck merged onto the scene as well 5 major card companies or more was gonna make cards basically worth nothing. At lease there are a few cards from the 80's that are worth more than the paper.
