This is incredible. My sister was an artist. She recently died at the age of ninety. She left behind lots of art supplies so I have decided to take up drawing. Found this channel and this will be my instructor..thank you for this wonderful webinar.
It's all about shapes, I started at 59 years old, square, a circle triangle, work around the shapes, you will accomplish the simplicity, foundation of artistry, don't be afraid, enjoyed it you'will go a long prosperous way!!!Zoe
You're hitting the nail on the head around the 12min mark! I am 41 and only recently started drawing again after 25 years or so.. there were always other kids and people more talented! Now I enjoy drawing, doing a animal drawing course and slowly improving my skills. I can actually draw things!
☺️ I too am 42 (noticing it's one year later from your comment), and due to health challenges I stepped away from my art interest for about 25 years. This video has so far been really inspiring! I'm considering all the phenomenal young artists out there and for awhile was convinced they just had more raw talent. What they have is dedication, discipline, and perseverance, and I can have those skills too! That is a gift to hear 🤍
Matt is a phenomenal artist and teacher. I’ve spend hours researching online as well as purchased tons of books on drawing, painting, pastels, colored pencils, etc. I’m one who usually looks for free resources. After viewing many of Matt’s free videos, I was inspired to take his full course on drawing as well as colored pencil. The annual subscription is incredibly low which I think speaks to his desire to teach and make it affordable for everyone. I don’t know how he sleeps because he is constantly adding new videos and full courses. Plus, he has lots of tutorials, live lessons that are available after the fact and more. The Virtual Instructor offers courses on watercolor, acrylic, oils, pastel , colored pencils, charcoal, portraits, etc. No, I don’t know Matt or have any affiliation with the Virtual Instructor. I haven’t been a “voice” during the live lessons (yet)! I am just so impressed with the content of the Virtual Instructor and thankful to Matt for sharing his experience and passion for teaching. So, I am inspired to highly recommend the Virtual Instructor. I am a beginner artist with no training except self-taught. I’ve already learned a lot more from Matt. And there is so much more to learn. And, if that isn’t enough, he adds content constantly.
Matt is the BEST! I watch so many of his videos and did 2 years of his online courses... if you haven't tried them yet you are missing out. Not only is he an incredible teacher and ridiculously accomplished artist, but I can't speak highly enough of the quality and value for money. You get so much more than any other online course I've seen.
My first introduction to The Virtual Instructor. Great instruction. One aspect that I greatly appreciate besides the fantastic art instruction is the absents of background music.
I think that I gave up in Jr. Highschool. That was a REALLY long time ago. I always wanted to draw but I wanted perfection from the start. Many students in my class were better than me. It became stressful instead of enjoyable. Well I'm ALOT older and I'm not as hard on myself as I was back then. I REALLY want to draw. I'm going to try. Life is sooooooo short! Much too short to not learn something you've always wanted to learn. Thank you for your help Sir. God bless y'all! Happy creating! ❤️🔥
Hi, I just started drawing one day back in April of 2022. I love this webinar, it should be taught at all the schools and all students should be the A student leaving them feeling completely confident at all times! Thank you Matt I will be watching more of your videos.
Thank you so much. I'm a 66yr old Aussy girl. I love your calm manner and your encouragement. I worked along with you and enjoyed myself. Im looking forward to more. Once again thank you.
This skill really made Me See shapes & Values & Not a Shoe !! Which instantly took away any intimidation or my negative dialogue. I definitely know how to draw shapes, so this is Great ! Thank you 💞
When I was in grade 4 I showed my class teacher (a nun) a drawing that I was very proud of - she accused me of tracing it. That was me done for the next 40 years!
Matt you are great. Gave me a lot courage. I can't believe it that i drew the shoe along with you. I know I need a lot more practice as you mentioned. I will keep doing it. You are amazing. Thank you Matt. Me from India.
I followed your draw the Nike tennis shoe - I really didn’t know how to do values-- I did it - the shoe looks pretty good - -I agree with you about the children drawing and teachers & parents not giving the encouragement needed . I drew all the time when I was a child - who knows what Tehama happened - I’m 65 and love to learn & drawing is what I’m (Practicing ) You are a great teacher thank-you - I subscribed to learn more 👩🏼💻🐾🐾🌵Kate in Az
I began to draw 8 yrs ago now - prior to this my stick figures needed practice. You have articulated what has been my journey - it was the moment I SAW objects in 3D, that a whole new world opened to me - combine that with daily practice and I’ve graduated from stick figures - if I may say so, they’re not bad at all !
I think I found the best instructor on the internet. I'm just a student of architecture that lacks creativity but is very eager to learn. Your way of teaching is very precise and easy to follow that even your 11 year old daughter can get a grasp on what you're trying to convey. (I watched your video with her). Thank you so much, Sir.
+This is Saturday evening following Good Friday in the midst of the pandemic sweeping across the globe and by chance I came across Matt and his wonderful webinar. It just swept me away from the anxiety of the times and shocked me as to what an opportunity there is to avail of self development. I can't say enough about the outstanding quality of his instruction and his introduction to grey recycled paper. Thank you Mat. These greetings come from Newfoundland and Labrador on the east coast of Canada. Your accent suggests you may be from the southern states. I trust you and your fellow Americans will follow the suggestions to stay safe until this frightening event comes to an end. Thank you Mat for your exceptional webinar and I shall be tuning in again. You have lit a fire. Blessings.
Hi Fred just read your comment on the art webinar - yes this guy is a great teacher - I will be following his lessons . Hope you are well I just got over Covid - LOVE TO LEARN/ & Practice Art- Kate from Az🌵👩🏼💻🐾🐾
Hi Fred, I hope you have stayed safe during the pandemic so far. Hope you got vaccinated and wore masks to increase your chances of survival. Hope you also kept drawing and enjoyed yourself.
When I was in high school I was student A, I received praise for a drawing that was really bad and got a higher grade then student B. Student B draw a hand that looked real. That totally shocked me and I gave up drawing. I am now 72, and now becoming a beginner drawer. Looking forward to your class.
I just had to subscribe. I used to be good at drawing when I was a child. Everyone in my class was in awe at my 'talent'. I haven't drawn for decades now, and I'm really crappy at it. Watching your video on drawing an upside down picture inspired me to get back into drawing.
I was a great artist as a teenager, then just stopped. 35 years later ( at 50) I have a yearning in me to draw, I was in an art class in 2017 and did pretty good drawings and have done charcoals and water colours, and other paintings. Im decent but not fantastic so I want to get better and here I am! Ok Ima finish watching the video 😀
AWESOME lesson! Thank you so much!!! I watercolor and this lesson on drawing will really help me to understand how to break down the shapes now!!! No one ever spends any time to help us draw better and this is the important piece I couldn’t quite get! Can’t wait to do more of your lessons!
Fantastic instructional and inspirational webinar. I drew alongside Matt as suggested and I'm very impressed with the result. Matt, you are surely is one of the best I have come across - thank you!
Thank you, so much. That did happen to me. Actually, my art teacher told me that I didn’t know how to draw a leaf. That was our task for class that day. But, like you said, my passion keeps me going; although it was years later that I got my confidence.
Oh goodness you just described me with student A and B. I remember a teacher praising me for my creative writing assignment in elementary school. I took that paper home, so proud of my accomplishment, only to watch my father's embarrassment and doubtful faces as he read it, and then handing it back to me in silence and disappointment. I never wrote again. I took the easy classes that I didn't have to write in from there on. Guess it's time to change that!
I think the reason some people think they can't draw is because they see people like you make it look so easy you are so good!....I used to think that myself. I Love art in any form but find it relaxing to sketch I love to also watch videos of others drawing as well.
FANTASTIC!!! You have giving me a GREAT GIFT by proving ME that I can DRAW. I just started learning drawing (2 lessons) and by far, this is the most encouraging and productive results I have achieved in such a short time. I'm looking at my sketch book in amazement and with GRATITUDE and APPRECIATION for your Teaching Technique and Style. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! Now I know I can do it.
I’m really glad I found this channel. I’m trying so hard to get back into art but I’m finding it extremely difficult to draw anything, especially something I like and am proud of. I just don’t know where to start but I feel like this is actually going to help me. I need step by step instructions, maybe I’m dumb idk but it helps me to be able to follow along.
Dear Teacher: Most of women's shoes are pretty but I never thought that this kind of shoe is pretty until you draw it. Thanks for letting me know today about this webinar. I am happy that your voice is so good that I understood every single word. Thank you. nga
The truth of the matter is, this is a great video because you aren't blowing smoke up people's noses. You said it correctly that if you have a desire to do something and are willing to gain knowledge and are willing to practice, you gain any skill and become good and even great at it...Ask a basketball coach, everything you did resonated with me immediately. Michael Jordan, Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry didn't come out of the womb doing the great things they currently do or did... And like you said, had Michael Jordan NOT practiced his craft like he did, we would never have had him...
Hi Matt thanks for the webinar. Just to about to complete my first year on my art journey by trying many mediums, but most importantly continuing to develop my drawing skills by the tips you have mentioned. Completed this yesterday and came out well. Thanks again and appreciate you time and effort in sharing. ✍️👌
Hi 💄I been watching you for a long time, I am an artist and you inspired me to make art tutorials too! I hope the art community can benefit and learn from my videos like how you inspired others! Love Destiny ❤️❤️
¨why don`t you draw what you see?” Told my teacher...i’ve got a shriver listening the same from you 20 years later when I’m just re-learning hoy to draw
This is awesome drawing is about learning tools and techniques without pressure of instant mastery. Most people get caught in that and stamp themselves as non creative which is so wrong. Talent is so over rated talent can give you a edge with some natural ability but brilliance is only hard work and consistent practice. Loved your video thank you :)
Hey Matt, this is a great way to show people that drawing is a skill that can be mastered by anyone willing to put in the effort and practice. Thank you!
As an older man who lost the ability to use his hands effectively about the time talent and decent art supplies were beginning to accumulate, I thought it would be worth adding to the discussion. As pain wracks my knuckles and wrists, my pencils and other expensive "needs" now sit while I am forced to restrict the further damage to the joints. I wanted to say that when that happens, it is tempting to take offense when people make statements that no longer apply to us. I choose to move toward pastels, limiting the pressure on my hands, and sketching with pencils as a smaller part of the experience. I had to learn that people don't need to be schooled when they make general statements that seem insensitive. If it is clear, as in this video, the comments were meant to encourage, we need to understand them that way. I am glad the producer of this video did not dumb down his content for my sake when he had a wider audience in mind. Of course, any videos aimed at my type artist would be appreciated and viewed, but I'm too old to believe it is all about me.
so true about talent, I keep telling people but weirdly they wont believe me even sometimes they seem annoyed when I tell them "you can lurn". I don't really like it when people tell me I have talent, I find it undermining. But since I noticed that they don't believe me when I tell them that it's "just" hard work , I don't say it anymore , I just say "thanks"
Thank you so much for this wonderful and inspiring webinar, with several 'ah-haaa' moments!! Now I know I can draw. Still lots of hours of ahead in practicing, but it's a GREAT start! Thank you❤
Thank you very much for this webinar, I discovered it recently. 100% your lession target, I did the drawings as you guided me: full success! I still do not draw better, but I have so much more confidence now that I started to do exercises and drawings from photos frequently. You helped me a lot! Thank you!
I think that you are interesting to listen to and its true if you get someone to show you and makes it interesting for the persons learning and fun people will learn and become better the more we do it thank you 👍
Wonderful video! I've always been an artist, never thought twice about it. That's just because I didn't know any better! It was my outlet and part of me from as far back as I can remember. Well, as for talent, you do need to have a talent for it, actually! But talent can mean a lot of different things. For me, talent equals desire. If you want to draw, you will draw. Yes, you will draw!
This was an amazing video. It really helped me to be more positive about learning to draw. Your tips have made it much easier. It has added the fun to my learning!
Awwww thank you so much for this. I love drawing but felt the need to learn more and you've helped me sooo much. I managed to follow and draw. shame i dont have a white charcoal pencil. will get some. what a difference it made to the drawing. it brought it alive. Thanks again. MIn :)
Mine actually looks like the shoe this is unbelievable☺☺☺ Thank you!!! And thank you for the pep talk in the beginning😉 You're a natural born instructor.😃
Thank you so much for very generously sharing your expertise with us. I am finding your videos inspirational. They have inspired me to go back to my art! My happy place!
Love ❤️ this soooo much!!! Thank you this gives me confidence to do what I have always wanted to do but I don’t have the money to pay someone to teach me. Thank you again!!!!
Thank you so much for your encouragement to let people know they can learn skills, practice them and find out that they now have talent. I have always had ideas in my head that I thought were Neto mosquito but needed to learn how to draw so I could better share my thoughts. My bigger goal is so I can draw my own illustrations to match my jokes for a joke book I want to publish. Your wonderful teaching is definitely going to be a Big piece of the puzzle of me accomplishing that and other goals. THANK YOU!! I thought when I saw the shoe there was no way I could figure out where to begin!!! Golly Gee, I followed your instructions and Wow! I drew a nice looking shoe with just a ink pen on notebook paper!!! Amazing!!! Your videos are a real SHOE-IN!!! Many thanks and blessings!😃
OMG that shoe exercise! My shoe actually looks like a shoe! :D Thank you so much for posting this, I'll be subbing and checking out more of your member options. Thank you again :D
Thank you so much, I was able to do this much easier than I thought when I started your video. I am so excited to continue to learn more and more and get better and better. You are an amazing teacher. Thanks again for putting this on UA-cam!
Hello sir I'm a student of drawing just started drawing, I'm totally confuse in shading could you please suggest me some exercises to improve my shading with pen and pencils. If you can make any tutorial on the subject it would be great, or if you have one already please tell me about it. Tia

Excellent, thank you for sharing your time and skill.
Awesome! Your personality and demeanor make it easy to learn from you.
Thank you ,you made me start drawing again. Annette 🇨🇮😀
The best art teacher I have ever meet. Thank you so much.
I feel optimistic about this. 🙌🏾
I had a ball, got quite a chuckle of my paint tube. Found this very informative. It's so necessary to have a mentor. Thankyou.
I don't know why I feel so happy when I see a new video on your channel...amazing as always

Wow, this technique is completely different from the previous one. It's wonderful.

can you do another webinar regarding the other elements of art and more examples, please?
thanks Sir you are best teacher, just I love you,
Drawing along with you, in the end I did pretty good I think. Thank you very very much for sharing your talent here. I am beginner.
Thank you as I try first time doing a shoe and shading and lines. You are so good at teaching.
Great instructions. Love your videos.

THANK YOU!!
