The Cytoverse is interesting to me as a series because it feels the most scattershot of Sanderson's work. Each book has a different setting, different cast, different goal, and different antagonist. And while that does make it hard for me to make a connection with some of the cast like I do with other works, I also like how much like an adventure it is. Each book has Spensa traveling to a new locale with a new cast of fun characters. And Spensa and M-Bot are fun and strong enough on their own that I'm fine with them being the only ones who stick around from book to book. But maybe that'll change with your reading order, integrating the novellas directly into the narrative. But the romances are also by far the weakest in all of Sanderson's work, by a mile, no contest. If any series was going to buck the romance trend, it should've been this one.
Totally valid. To me, many of the twists were a lot more foreseeable as well. I guessed that Doomslug was a hyperdrive in the first scene we meet her, and figured that Chet was a Delver about halfway through Cytonic. Moriumur being able to see past the delver illusions still caught me off-guard though; in classic Sanderson fashion it's incredibly obvious looking back, but never even crossed my mind on my first readthrough.
Just got my Cytoverse box yesterday, and OHHHHHHHHHH BOY. I'm actually making my way through Cytonic right now, because I knew the second box would be Cytoverse, and I had not read the Cytoverse books, but I was getting that box. So, I picked up the first book and immediately YES! This series is so good!
Hey. I'm a big fan. I'm in the final book : defiant. Your reading strat is so cool, but unfortunately, I had to wait for my books to deliver, so I only read them one at a time (in normal order). But, if I get a chance in the very future, I might do it your way.
Up until now I've only read Cosmere novels and had not touched any of Sandersons Non-Cosmere stuff (mostly out of fear of confusing things in my own mind), and while I had been tempted by Skyward but ultimately had decided not to read it (same reasons as before), but I gotta say, I think this video finally swayed me.
@@andrewvakoc2306Kate and Michael made the audible versions such a pleasure to listen to. I finished the last 4 books on audible since I was working on a farm on my own most of the time. Way better than listening to music
If I had to give a shard to the cytoverse, it would probably be Valor, just thematically. But I feel like the one most likely to have FTL travel as their core magic system, maybe Invention, but that might just the Sci Fi aspects making me think technology/invention.
I just finished Evershore after finishing Cytonic and I have been holding out on Elysium, so this video was very timely. Gonna listen to that one before I go into Defiant
Hoo boy. I was planning on selling or giving away my Cytoverse box since I had no plans to ever read them. But now I feel like I at least have to give them a shot first.
Oh thousand times yes! Some of Jordan last Wheel books start to get you bogged down (to the point I was like I’m gonna read some books by this Sanderson guy to give me a break until I read his WOT stuff) but when Sanderson picks up it’s like a breathe of fresh air for the series and I felt like it gave Jordan’s series justice. Just good luck getting through all fourteen! It may take awhile
I’m going to be honest, skyward was one of my favorite Sanderson books, but the rest of the series isn’t really doing it for me. I felt like I kind of had to get myself through starsight, and cytonic has been on hold for a while at this point. I Just want more space battles, man! Also, I feel like aspens a had so much character growth in the first book, that there wasn’t enough for her to grow in the others, and I find her less interesting than I did in book one. I wish I did like the others more, because I like the first book so much that it’s disappointing to not like the rest of the series just as much.
That's fair. The combat takes more of a back seat to the exploration. Hopefully Defiant will bring it all together for you, like what I hear happens with Wheel of Time (which I will eventually finish).
So let get the timeline right to not suffer from brain rot here. *Prequel:* Defending Elysium. Read this after reading Cytonic. *1) Skyward:* Introduction of the characters, the universe, their lifestyles and magic system. *2) Starsight:* Beginning of the expansion universe and alliens. *2.1) Sunreach:* Connected with Starsight's timeline. And it's interlude are connected with Cytonic and previous books. *3) Cytonic:* Read until Part 1 of the book, and then read ReDawn. And returns to read Cynotic Part 2. However, do not read the epilogue. *3.1) Evershore:* Connected with Cynotic's story and then read the final chapter. *4) Defiant:* The last book. *5) Skyward Legacy:* A sequel.
You can't just read Memory of light he wrote two more wheel of time books before that. Also it makes no sense to read those three without rea reading the 12 preceding books which average between 600 to 1000 pages.... Good luck!!!!
I got about halfway through book nine and stalled there for two years, to the point where I couldn't remember who was who and what was going on. I'll get through it at some point.
Don’t feel bad stalling at book nine is normal. I actually had to switch once I heard nine really halted the plot and went over to Elantra’s and mistborn trilogy. And that made me want to read Sanderson’s WOT
There may come a day when Brandon writes a series that you can just read in order like a normal book series. But it is not this day!
This day, we RAFO!
Wob is that it's when he's 73
Spensa be like: So anyway, I started blastin
Instead of Trash Man, it's Rat Girl.

Ladies and gentlemen, my work here is done.
I understand 100 percent of what you are saying because im a huge fan of the skyward series.
you havnt read a memory of light yet???? Oh boy you are in for a treat at the last battle. The best chapter I've ever read hands down.
I'll get there. I stalled out in book 9 for about two years and then just gave up. But I'll get there!

Yes Brandon Sanderson is the reason I read the wheel of time
Everything I've heard is that his ending is worth it.

@@TheCosmerenaut honestly I didn't like Rand as much as the other 2 boys till something that happened in the second to last book
To the point I got to - midway through book 9 - Perrin is my BOY.
Honestly, I don't think it's worth going back and forth between the novellas and Cytonic like that. Read in the publication order, and you'll be fine.
Very true. I originally read all the novellas before Cytonic and enjoyed myself.

do you know if the last books is going to be co-writed like the novelas?
I believe they're going to be fully done by Janci, with probably an editorial pass or two by Brandon.
I dunn maybe I’ll read these some day. As long as someone has a complicated power to fly badly
How about a complicated power to FTL badly?

Exactly right. The Skyward Legacy trilogy will also follow the same cast of characters, so it won't be a huge time jump.
