    Fighting with your physique?
    Lays on opponent*

  • @michaelnurge1652

A lot of times if you're really strong you've got to figure some of this stuff out for yourself. Not a whole lot of people are going to tell you in practice you shouldn't let people tire you out; they just say you should increase your conditioning. Which is all well and good, but it's still hard when you're the one likely to tire first no matter what.
Weight classes matter a fair bit, too. Wrestling in the "unlimited" weight class meant I had to try to tire out the big monsters first; cutting weight to get into the next weight class down meant I was the big monster who had to watch out to not get tired. I suspect it's the same for other combat sports.

this: its a bit of a mixed blessing to be a powerhouse (i am one) because people want you to have insane cardio which wont happen, or drop huge weight which also wont happen, and sparring is awful because you have to hold back a lot often losing speed because you dont want to KO partners. (ranting but all of these plagued me a lot in combat sports)

cardio was (and to some degree still is) a big problem; learning your pace is an artform in itself, i feel. i've noticed i could feel great running or jumping rope, but you start rolling on the mats and that shit drained me so fast. what i'd love to see, if there's ever an extension of this set, is in-fight tactics like when you get tired, how to adapt what is learned from these videos. congrats on the milestone btw! excited to see what's to come.

This series is so good. Especially this video touches on wider topics about strenght and effective use of it.
I see that many strong punchers in boxing gain the control quite early in most bouts - their opponents stop committing and start walking away while trying to find safe opportunities with their jab. I find this dynamic interesting - I assume it's just the threat of counter punch dictating what exchanges play out, but it's so weird to see someone walking flatfooted, with guard up, mostly making minimal faints, and yet always receive so much respect.
Are you planning to cover other traits, such as better than normal reflexes/general agility (you know, the matrix thing some great boxers seem to pull of consistently), and other advantages not defined by just body proportions alone. Or are they less about ones natural strenghts and more about determined training.

Mr Varga, other than Badr / G3 can you please recommend some fighters (K1 / MMA) who use this style to take inspiration from?
I'm 5'11 and 88kg and this style seems perfect for me (combined with your vid on being a little shorter.) I often find myself overwhelming my first 2 sparring partners then gassing out later into training... I need to adapt like you suggested (and run more!) Thanks so much, you are an inspiration!

Michael Chandler(has good cardio but explodes very methodically), Sean Strickland(lesser known but great at energy conservation, excited for his future), Kevin Holland(particularly his fights against Darren Stewart and Joaquin Buckley), Francis Ngannou most recent fight with Stipe is a good example of where energy conservation can take you, Jared Cannonier has a nice methodical pace and uses his power well.

3 years late :D. I don't fight but I like sparring, how does being extra strong help with sparring? I don't want to lay my sparring partner out, but it seems like there's no real benefit to being strong if you spend most of your time sparring.

I was watching one of Gabriel’s older fights and his opponent said that Gabriel has more of a Muay Thai style similar to himself. Is this true? I thought he uses more of a kickboxing style. If anyone can clarify this that would be great.

ok so far to balance my power I follow some of your shoulder exercises so you don't get tired and a few others. does that mean it will reduce my power due to the process of increasing endurance? because for a long time I always focus on speed and it works but still I get tired the fastest compared to my friends whose power is below me.
because I want to have insane speed and endurance power. Even though some say it's impossible

What about those that are explosive and have good cardio? Not necessarily "extra strong" but they can keep a good pace and then explode?
Or, someone said it in the comments" the average physique? I'm 5'7 and fight at 135lb MMA so that's pretty average. What's your take on that? Thanks and congrats on 50k!!

You said to tire out the powerful fighter but as the more powerful fighter, how do you keep it later on in fights? Obviously how you fight would be important but any other tips as well? It seems like Ggg keeps his power yet still throws quite a bit, same with buakaw and his kicks, is it just training power for time or something else? Thanks

It’s the pacing of the volume of punches they have good pacing in their short flurries of punches and of the fight goes the distance or they hurt the opponent than they use more of their preserved energy to try and get the finish

I think Marciano was just a genetic abnormality because nobody has really been able to replicate that combination of power and endurance. If you want to do it though, more power to you because if you can stick with his level of training you'll be a monster.
