My guess is that they sacrificed some of the "correct ways" in the compositions on purpose, for the sake of the (hidden) storyline. Allow me to explain: Our first example, the Doll Yard is actually the object of the story. It's the place (the Carnival) where the Doppelgangers keep the bodies (black figures) of the Originals, in plain sight as dolls (ala 'Dollhouse'). They are even moved around, because obviously someone plays with them (Shadow Dami). In the BEcause Choreo MV there are even more hints about these Dolls and how they are moved by magical powers by Shadow SuA. Everything in the video is hidden in plain sight. Firstly, things are hidden in the sweet lyrics. Please check the English subtitles (missing in the review) for more. The lyrics give us big hints about the story. For example the sub-chorus goes "It's blue, blue. Your face is like the Ocean View". This implies the Shadow strangles the victim and it enjoys the blue color on her face... The lyrics, especially the rap section are really creepy and tell us a lot about the story. The "Psycho" murder scene violins are clearly heard during Dami's rap. The lyrics even hint terrible things among sweet I love you's. "Forever mine" Everything, even your breath. Forever mine" or "stay forever by my side, like a living picture" or "BEcause I love you, I say with an angelic face". In the absence of visible murder scenes, various hints are used instead. We only see one clear murder scene, with the Doppelganger (Handong) standing there, after the body is pulled quickly under the curtain (by other Shadows). A dramatic scene made to hint us that things are not what they seem. And yet there are obviously other murders, because all 7 of the Originals are replaced. Someone (Original SuA) even eats a poisoned apple. Sweet Original Gahyeon and Original JiU run trying to escape. The 7 Evil Doubles (Shadows) in the end of the MV are more flamboyant than the Originals. So we know it's them. Yet, during the MV we see them copying the originals, until they finally replace them. In the first lobby scene, we even see them setting up a trap, looking like staff and customers. Their creepy changing expressions, especially Mother Gahyeon's tell us that something is wrong. The clothes of the victims appear being carried away. Or maybe they are the clothes they will wear, when they pick them one by one. And then the hourglass is turned and the next cycle begins at Deathtrap Hotel. The victims are coming. The strange name of the song itself contains hints regarding the plot. It starts with a capitalized BE, representing the Chinese-Korean character 悲 for 'sadness' (bei in Chinese, 비 in Hangul). BE + because = BEcause. The MO, the reason is sadness. This story is about obsession, insanity, murder and sadness, hidden in beautiful words. It's about the Shadows that are obsessed with the victims so much, that they murder them and steal their lives. They even turn them into their dolls, to ease their sadness. Moreover we see other hints: The Shadows follow the Originals around and they dance on top of them, at 180; the clothes carried in the lobby are those of the victims in later shots; the first murder happens in the beginning, in the choreo section. Gahyeon chokes JiU from inside the mirror, while the wall is made out symbolically by "the Tethered" DC, like in "Us". This was the most important scene in that film. In the end 'Mother' Gahyeon is merged in the red cocoon with the old Shadow Queen JiU and they become one. They both sit together in the throne room, ruling the Shadows in the final shot, expressionless but stylish and beautiful. And then they all give us an evil smirk. Gahyeon's end choreo shot with the hands framing the face and the evil laughter, is again straight out of "Us". The carnival, the Underworld, all represent locations in that film. A serious homage to the film. The very song is hidden in plain sight among the sweetest songs DC ever produced, in an album about summer holidays. BEcause represents the summertime horror movie you go to watch, a hidden pleasure. Friendship, togetherness and love are the other themes of this album. And in the middle, lies BEcause. Maybe because you enjoy it with friends. With lowercase be. I guess DC love watching horror films together. It is obvious that much effort is made during the whole production to create a lore around this song. As a result, I believe that the Director chose the 'wrong techniques' to show us that something is wrong and keep us on our toes. They emphasised elements they shouldn't have, as you say, like the covered Dolls, the light poles and parts of the Carnival, the correct lights that are missing in half of the shots and many faces appear badly lit, in the shadows. It is a highly unconventional storytelling, expecting the audience to understand the storyline by slowly picking up by the crumbs left behind. And many of these crumbs are hidden in these 'wrong' shots, that exist as exclamation marks.

This is based on the movie Us and plays w the red and blue concept, they even turn the leaves blue when siyeon is red and then the leaves turn red when siyeon's doppelganger is in crazy mode. it's so cool how they play w colors. i agree w the wide dami shot, i never realized, even as a film graduate and master of composition, but i think we all see dami first bc it's kpop fashion to always go towards the person singing. the abandoned amusement park is actually a very popular location for shoots, it's even in the show where sua sang an OST, the kdrama is called Cafe Minangdam and the mystery is very good. i don't u noticed all the blue n red changes and didn't mention the additional use of purple, i guess it's more like a transition or an in between. thanks for the reaction!

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

I think it's pretty obvious the "wrong technique" is intentional. It's jarring and keeps the audience on our toes. With how well-composed all of DC's MVs are the director wouldn't make so many "mistakes". Btw good taste in JiU. She's my bias too :) (bias wreckers are Gahyeon and Dami)
