Today I'll go with the first album I ever bought: Nilsson Schmilsson. Harry Nilsson was one of my all-time favorite singers. The three AM radio hit songs on it were Jump Into the Fire, Coconut and Without You. They couldn't have been more different from each other but I loved them all and still do!

February 3rd: Leonard Cohen "Songs of Love and Hate" (I actually got turned onto Cohen from a tribute cassette "I'm Your Fan" released in the early 90s that featured bands like REM and The Pixies that I like )

My choice for today is *Roots* by Curtis Mayfield. The former Impressions singer is on fine form, his fragile falsetto voice and groovesome rhythm guitar creating a formidable, funky brew. A fabulous record by a wonderful human being who is much missed.
Honourable mention is *No Roses* by Shirley Collins and the Albion Country Band. One of the great English traditional singers, Collins is backed by a stellar cast of musicians assembled by Ashley Hutchings, doyen of the folk music revival in the U.K..

Great choices, Pete, and those two are on the list I am still editing. ZZ's debut - as you say, more on that later. Today's pick is L.A. Woman by The Doors. Lots of great albums by this band but, not counting1978's American Prayer, this is the last studio album with Jim Morrison who died on July 3 of 1971. Picked this for today to honor him on this almost fifty year anniversary of his death. Bought this in a local record/stereo store after the store had been though a fire. Picked it up for $2. Still sealed but smelling smoky. LP was in great shape in moved into constant rotation. This is a band with many great albums and all are enjoyable up to this album. A great testament to the legendary Jim Morrison.
Bubbling Below The Top 28: Today's Honorable Mention is In The Land Of Grey and Pink by Caravan. I picked up this album from becoming a SoT UA-cam follower about a year ago. It's not on my top 28 for the year only because I've had less than a year with it and most of my other picks I've lived with since they were issued in 1971. But a great album and thanks to Pete and the SoT channel for getting me to listen to this.

Appropriately for the third day of this series, my choice for today is Santana 3. If yesterday was about saying farewell to a rock legend, this album was when we got to hear one of the greatest living guitarists for the first time - the fabulously talented Neil Schon. Carlos Santana’s protégé was only 17 when this album was recorded and he has gone on to have a hugely successful career ever since.

Vincent is a beautiful song. Heart wrenching lyrics. There’s something about slow and emotional just vocals and acoustic guitar songs that are just incredible. My pic, Day 3:
The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions with Howlin Wolf, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman and Steve Winwood.
Something like 10 years ago I started diving into the roots of rock, which took me to the blues and all the way to back to even before Robert Johnson' Crossroads recordings. My favorite of all these early bluesmen was Howlin' Wolf. A hell of a voice and some raunchy, "in your face" music for early '50s! This album was relatively tame, but he had a great backing group here for sure. Interestingly, Howlin' Wolf toured with Alice Cooper in 1972. Alice's show apparently scared Wolf a lot.

I *love* early ZZ Top! I wish that they had never left that early raw, dirty blues sound behind, especially as they were such a tight band in those days, but as we know, the '80s happened, and ZZ Top basically became a Billy Gibbons solo project with drum machines and such. My pick for today: Jethro Tull's incredible '71 album, "Aqualung."

#26 in my top 100 albums for 1971. I'm sure the majority of those watching this will be going "who the hell!" on this one.
Whalefeathers: self-titled. A local band from Cincinnati. Played a bluesy/Psychedelic rock. Included covers of I Don't Need No Doctor and Cream's World of Pain.
    Honorable mention: Wishbone Ash: Pilgrimage
