On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Chicago, IL on 4-13-19.
We're looking at a 1986 Mercury Carpi RS in Black Paint. The car is equipped with the factory 5.0 Liter V8 engine.
We’re talking with the Owner Mike Hintz. Mike’s had this car since 2013. Mike used to be a Lincoln Mercury Mechanic and used to look forward to seeing the new Capri’s come in. He purchased a 1986 in 1987 and sadly lost that car when his Friend was driving the car and lost control and the car ended up on the porch of a house.
Mike always enjoyed the car. He found and purchased this car in Tennessee with 44,000 original miles on it. 1986 was the last year for the Mercury “Capri” name.
ENJOY!

Great video... I've owned a '79, an '82, an '84, and three '86 Capris.
They are amazing cars and I enjoyed seeing yours.

VERY sweet car! I had one that was almost a twin. "86" RS 5.0 5-speed. I got an amazing deal on it when I bought it. I bought it in "91" from the original owner who had special ordered it and had all of the paperwork on it. The only real differences were that it had a larger cam with a bit of a lope to it; different exhaust that let you hear that cam; it had the 140mph speedometer and it had a tinted sunroof instead of the t-top. I saw an ad in the Rockford Resister Star for it. Went o take a look and test drive it. I really liked it on sight, and fell in love with it as soon as I started it and pulled out of his driveway. Can't remember the mileage on it but it was low, in the 30's. Not a blemish on the car anywhere and the interior was immaculate. He was asking 1,800.00 and I gave him cash on the spot, with no attempt to talk him down at all. I thought 1,800 was a great bargain! One of the nicest cars I've ever owned that I did not get under the hood of and beef it all up. As is was just fine with me. I had it until the summer of "96". It was parked on the street in front of my apt. (only place to park), small town U.S.A, and some drunk teenager creamed the whole driver's side about 2:30 in the morning one night. I cried! There was no fixing it. I really miss that car!

bought a brand new Mustang GT back in 1989 and got to drive it for a year straight before they repossessed it. Those were good times

It is hard to believe those era cars had no airbags until 1993 1994. Boy do I remember seeing these cars in Queens back in 1991,1992.

Just a 86,85, GT Mustang. 5speed 85 Capri, with 302, had a 4bbl Holley. Just like Mustang . I actually liked these.
I like them too :-)
I love my 1996 Mustang GT original owner 200,000 original miles

I had a 1983 Mercury Capri Crimson Cat. I had it for four years and it was one of my all time favorite cars. I put a louvered fins over the back window and it looked amazing. The car had two problems. 1. I leased the car and had to turn it in after 4 years. 2. It was super fun to drive and I tended to drive it very aggressively. Turning it in probably saved my life. I wish I had it today.

I had an 86 mercury capri. It was my first car and I drove it for 15 years. So many good memories in that. Had a hatchback party at the U2 concert...all over nj in that car. It had a red interior, that I grew to love, lol. Three years to pay it off after which it broke down regularly, ha ha

I have a 1985 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 EFI HO (throttle body FI) With 15 K original miles on it. It is black and looks almost exactly like yours. It is in pristine condition, I have had it 10 years and it had 8k on it when I got it. As you say, No one sees them anymore and that is the most fun. It has every option and costs over 13k in 1985, I also have all documentation. It is a crowd pleaser at shows and everyone always has stories, great fun. I love having it because it is so rare, I have not seen another one in the St. Louis area, or anywhere else for that matter.

Nice looking car. I built a 74' blue v-6 With cam and solid lifters, ECT. That car would do 145 mph never went faster, but, it would've...🙂 For a v-6 it was fast as heck, get rubber in every gear.

Had an, '82 before bubble back . 200CID Inline 6cyl. C4 automatic. Black, with gold. Really sharp! Fun to drive. Slow as heck, but rock solid reliable.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you had a "bubble back" :-) Glad to read you had a dependable car, Lou
I have been looking for a clean, stock 1986 black Capri RS with T-tops and a 5-speed for over 20 years. I am picking it up tomorrow (sept 22 2021), the wait is over. Good review, just one correction, something an enthusiast should know guys, they were 200 hp in 86 not 190. First and only year of the fuel injected Capri 5.0. It was down 10 Hp from the carbureted 85 (210), but up 20 torque. Also I’m not sure about the USA cars, but all of my 85-86 Capri RS’s definitely had and have the RS in the moulding. Other than that great job!
Hi Troy, Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and glad your wait is over :-) Lou
buddy of mine, and I know not many people will believe this, owns an '83 Capri RS. We've been restoring this car for a couple of years now and I had no idea just how rare they are.so this is an interesting video.
Hi NPDarkside13, Sounds like a great car, and I hope your Buddies car builds out the way he hopes :-) Lou
The only other Fox Capris to have port fuel injection were the 83 and 84 RS Turbo models.
Hi 331Grabber, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Lou
dude that's like mine except for the sun roof. Got that book to. hardest thing is that center console armrest keeps cracking. love it. 33 miles when I bought mine. 250,000 mile later
Hi oldnewbreed, Happy to read you've been a great Care Taker for your car :-) Keep that one rolling, Lou
My '79 RS 302 V8 had a factory hoodscoop new. I've been to many car shows over the years, I'm in my 70s, and I've only ever seen one fox body Capri shown. My own wasn't in show condition at all.

A guy i worked with bought a brand new Capri 5.0 back in 1986. Same as this one black with t tops. Fell in love with it. I went out and ordered a red Capri 5.0 just like the ad. I liked being different than all the Mustangs running around. Car ran strong considering the wimpy 2.73 gears out back.

@@73twall thanks, its fun.
Hi Michael Hintz, Thank you for sharing, and we had fun :-) Mission accomplished, Lou
Very nice car and video. Thanks Michael and Lou!!
Thanks to both of you for this episode! I had a '86 5.0/5-speed with air-conditioning delete (or not put in?) and it was a So. Cal. car (it does get hot here)! I bought it at a Ford dealership in Simi Valley, Cal. in '89. I did not know how to drive stick, so my friend had to drive it home, lol. I did know the basics, but not confident enough to drive the 15 miles home. I actually got $300 trade-in on a beat up '78 Trans Am! My car had a full lower aero kit below the doors and all the way around the back with cutouts for the exhaust that matched the stock front spoiler, but not sure if that was a factory stock option. Mine had the flat hood. I loved that car, and after eagerly reading 'Muscle Mustangs and Fast Ford' magazine for a few years decided to 'upgrade' to a '93 GT newspaper advertising special (the ones that are advertised much lower price than MSRP to get you to a dealer). Big mistake! The GT was fine, but it was not 'better' than my '86 (heck, the air-conditioner went out only a year or so after buying it!), so should have stuck with the Capri and upgraded it with a new crate engine from Ford Motorsport and one of the half-dozen or so supercharger kits that were available for the 5.0 at the time. As far as rarity--I actually saw several older and contemporary non-V8 Capris, in the early 90s, but saw more McLaren Capris, convertibles even, than my hard-top '86 5.0! In fact, I don't think I ever saw a 5.0 Capri other than one '83 or '84 (based on the single exhaust) in the L.A. area. I did get asked "What kind of Mustang is that?" a lot, and a few people who only thought Capris were 4 or 6 cylinder cars were surprised seeing "5.0" on the side and a 5-speed manual.
Sweet car. I've always liked the capri more than mustang. To bad you just don't see them anymore.
Hi Maynard Reed, Glad to read you enjoy this "Sweet" car :-) Lou
There is one in the L.A. Craigslist--an '86 5.0/5-speed in red for $7k. I laughed at myself balking at the price because someone has a '86 notchback Mustang with the FOUR Cylinder in the same Craigslist asking $7995.
@@culcune Wow.
Hey Lou!!!! WHOOSH>>>>>WHOOSH>>>>THWAAAAAAACKKKKK??? NO😜🤣! Those boys are caught by my big bro, one in each hand, a big grin on his handsome face! WOW, big bro Lou. This is like a time capsule, so wicked cool and unique, man. I was a 15 year old boy on the JV baseball team then, and at 52 now my reaction (and airborne tubesocked stocking JV baseball jock feet! 😜) is the same-AWESOME! So much character-kinda Euro, but def All-American with that 5.0 and exhaust sound. These Fox bodies, esp in this condition, are such a joy. The way the Capri had those subtly flared fenders, Euro bubble glass hatch and admittedly odd taillights separated in from the Mustang and in lower trims was maybe a chick car, but with the 5.0 suddenly put it into a "chick loving guy car" category. I like that switch 😆😜. The way you featured this review in front of that awesome red brick building just added to that perpetual "80's after highschool shananigans" and is perfect! Thanks for this, big brother! ⚾⚾JV Johnny
Hey JV Johnny, Double handed grab....Bruce Lee movie style :-) Happy to read you enjoy the character of this car! You're welcome, Lou
Those Capris were something special then. I was in my early 20’s and discovering club nightlife in the Detroit area. Someone I was dating had a friend who owned a fully loaded 1983 Mercury Capri, all in black. It was THE car to arrive at Backstreet, Footlights, or Menjo’s in. The valet attendant ALWAYS left it out front. It was eye catching, and LOUD. The Southfield freeway felt like the ramp at Metro Airport because this car was FAST. Sometimes if my boyfriend wanted to take me someplace special, he would borrow his friends car, and we’d have an even better night because of this car. True, you never, ever see these on the road. One side note, the restaurant I was working, the assistant manager owned a new Mustang, black as well, and beautiful. He decided to change the rear hatch of the Mustang, and install the Capri hatch. It made his Mustang even better looking. I wonder if it’s still out there.
Hi John, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the person you were dating's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
All RS Capris had the fog lights
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Lou, enjoyed the Mercury video. I have an 86 Mercury Capri, that I actually saw go through the Ford dealership at the time, I was working at 27 years old, as a technician. I acquired the car in 1992, and I purchased the car. It's also black and gray t top 5 speed 50. Have more info on the Capri if interested, also feel my car is very rare and I'm looking to pass it along to an admirer.
Hi Martin, Happy to read this car is like your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. If you'd like to discuss more, my e-mail is trupowr@yahoo.com , Lou
I remembered when these came out. They were rare during production years but always caught the attention of many at that time.
Hi Neil Ouellette, Glad this video brings back memories of when these cars came out :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
In your review you mentioned never seeing the “RS” on the mouldings, thinking it was only from brochure or mercury test models. I can tell you they indeed did have the “RS” in the mouldings. At least in Canada. My first car was the twin to this vehicle. 86 black t-top RS with grey gt interior and 5 speed transmission. The 86 had 200 hp from the factory. Great/unique car. Love the bubbleback.

Lol, I said the exact same things and noticed your comments. I thought I would have been the only one that knew that crap. I just bought it’s twin, getting it tomorrow, won’t be able to sleep tonight, I’ve been looking a very long time.
@@TheOGG1 I’m envious that you tracked one down, I don’t often see them anymore. It’s one of those cars I wish I never sold. I drive a 94 mustang gt vert now. It has the 5.0, manual transmission set up like the Capri, but not that unique look with the flared fenders, t roof, and bubble back hatch. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!
The Mercstang I had a friend with one, the Ford guys always gave him grief.
Ha. I never heard of Mercstang. Funny!
I had a grey '86 5.0 like the one in this video only I had a lower body kit all around. It was apparently the only 5.0 Capri in L.A. in the early 90s because everyone asked "What kind of Mustang is that?" or those who knew of the Capri but only thought they came in 4 cylinder or V6 versions were surprised to see they had the 5.0 Mustang engine in it, lol. I actually saw a few convertible McLaren 5.0 based on the Capri (this was L.A., after all!) but my car was rarer. I saw one '84 5.0 (I believe it was an '84, based on the single exhaust) in the 4 years I owned my car, out in the 'wild'. I watched this video, went on the L.A. Craigslist, and there is a '86 red Capri 5.0 with 5-speed advertised for $7k.
Mercstang …. good one :-)
That's a very cool car sharp clean i like the fact that it has t-tops too. I can't believe it still has the old refrigereant in still that stuff is pretty much gone.
Hi Pete Medina, Thank you for viewing and sharing the details you enjoy on the video of this car :-) Lou
What a treat Lou! Winner!
Glad to read you enjoy this one Joseph Romano :-) Lou
THIS is my dream car. I had a white ‘86 t-top automatic and always said the only thing that would have made it better would be if it were black 5-spd. Some day I will find one. Thanks for the video! Beautiful Capri!

Not all GS models were 4 cylinder. I had an '86 Capri GS 5.0 5-speed. It's like the Mustang LX. You could get a Mustang LX with a 5.0.

I have an 86 capri with only 25,000 miles on it always been garaged & not driven much at all with a paxton supercharger & a hurst shifter added i bought brand new!!!
Hi James Pickesimer, You have a cool car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Used to be a well-used black 5.0 Capri in my neighborhood; I think a local police officer owned it. Strange they didn't sell better, given that many of the earlier Mercury muscle and pony cars like Marauders, Cougars and Cyclones had sold respectably, albeit always in lesser numbers than their comparable Ford counterparts. One of 282 with T-tops--that is a rare one indeed. My brother owned an '84 Mustang GT, gray on gray with T-tops. It was a blast growing up in that car.
HI AMCmachine, Clearly the Black Capri is memorable :-) Your Brother had a nice car too, Lou
Thats a cool mercury really think these cars are rare thanks for sharing lou wish mercury still made cars!! Thank u lou nice ride !

That glass hatch. Don't break it!
That would be bad. We'll be careful.
OMG, Lou.
Much thanks to you and your guest. I love these things! I had a 1979 capri with a straight six and an automatic. I loved the Capri! I always liked the look better than the Mustang. Unfortunately, the Capri didn't last as long as the Foxbody Mustang. The fact it is an RS, WITH a 5.0, WITH T-tops, WITH a manual, WITH the Mercury version of the Mustang 5.0 mags......mind blown. Thanks again to you and your guest. This is why I support you on Patreon. You give us this kind of unique stuff you just don't see elsewhere.

Had an 85. The only difference was mine had carburator. The wheel center caps are not correct. They should have the Ford emblem. Loved the car, hated the T Tops. They always leaked and doing 200 kph the wind noise was deafening.

Nice :-)
Hi Lou
80s for sure I remember the Capri RS 5.0 and mustangs as we raced them and of course I had a 1987 IROC Z28 brand new after high school a blast of a time!!
Hi Clem Mahabir, Good times, good times :-) Lou
In 1989 there were three of us friends, 1986 Capri, 1989 Mustang and 1988 Firebird. We were cool.
'80 Capri was my first car. Had that "widebody" straight from the factory that all the kids want.
Way cooler front and rear end.
Mustangs were like bellybuttons, everyone had one.
Personally, I preferred the flat back window fastback on my car.

Everyone took the hatch off and got a hatch from a Ford mustang and it bolts right on no problem but now a lot of the capri's don't have original hatch and people like them now.
Hi J C, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Had an 85 just like this. Same colour and 5 spd manual. Mine had the carburetor. This had Fuel injection. The cougar center caps are wrong as they should have the Ford Logo. Loved the car. It was faster than the IROC and Trans Am . My 85 had the RS badge. The picture was likely an 85. The only complaint was at 200 km/hr the windows sucked out and it made lots of noise.
Glad to read this car / video brings back memories of your 85 :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
I think I've only seen one of those in my life. The hood pretty cool it looks like a gt500 hood Mustang.
Hi Jeffrey Kraus, You're right, you don't see them hardly at all. Glad to share this car with you, and thank you for viewing and commenting, Lou
Still have my 1986 Capri, sole owner bought with 33 miles. 253,000 mile. Love that car. Wife wants me to get rid of it. Not running today. Looks it’s age almost killed it a few times but never in a major Collision still original paint. Have a sun roof and not the t-top. My air dam his been injured often. One winter in Michigan then California followed by Texas for the rest of its long long life.
Did put on straight pipes at 26 years only to find I need cats. Bummed.
Hi oldnewbreed, Sounds like you're a great Care Taker for your car :-) Well done, Lou
Lou Costabile sometime I feel it’s safer just to not drive it. Love that car. Saved my life a few times.
My BUDDIES BOUGHT TWO NEW '86 5.0s
1GT & 1RS.
MY BEST FRIEND OWNED THE 86GT TTOP & HE ALWAYS LIKED OUR BUDS BUBBLE BACK TTOP RS BETTER.YU'd think they were Paternal TWINS...SAME PAINT & INTERIORS!
I DIDN'T CARE FOR THE "BUBBLE BACK" THEN.
ANOTHER THING*THE CAPRI WAS QUICKER & WOULD BEAT HIS 86GT!
BOTH 3PDL CARS w TTOPS!
THE "SHARK NOSE" CARS LOOKED MORE ARROW DYNAMIC BUT I THINK THAT BUBBLE IN THE BACK OVER THE REAR GAVE IT BETTER BALAST...ANYWAY LATER IN OUR YEARS HE WAS BUILDING A TTOP CAPRI TO RUN 7's!
Both HE & THE CHASSIS BUILDER NVR DID SEE IT TAKE ITS 1320 PASS!
AS THEY HV PASSED!
RIP. 🙏
I REMEMBER DRIVING 8HRS RND TRIP WITH HIM TO PIC UP HIS NEW SPCL ORDERED "FIBERGLASS "MUSTANG DECK LID" I SAID I HATED THE BUBBLE BACK IN THE DAY ON MIKES RS BUT I REALLY APPRECIATE IT NOW & IF YOUR BUILDING A RS CAPRI TO ME THE BUBBLE SETS IT APART FROM ALL THE MUSTANGS!
HE DROPS IT OFF TO THE CHASSIS SHOP.THE BUILDER asks him
"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT"!
(BLINK👀BLINK👀)¿?
He responded "IT'S *LIGHTER"!
THE BUILDER responds "IF YU EVER APPRECIATED BALAST THATS WHERE YU WANT THE XTRA WEIGHT OF THAT BUBBLE & YOUR GOING TO NEED IT!...& ITS RIGHT OVER THE AXLE"!!!
THATS THE DAY HE REALIZED WHY MIKES RS CAPRI WAS JUST A LIL' QUICKER THEN HIS '86 GT!!! LOL
CHEERS BOYZ!
Hi J Jj, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Buddy's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Lou
i own a 1980 capri. the RS quarter panel moulding did exist, i think it was only on the 85's or 86's here in canada. i actually have a set.
Hi Terri Whyte, Glad to read about your 1980. You don't see many of those. Cool that you have a set of RS quarter panel moldings too, Lou
I believe the 'RS' was on early Capris, but not on the later versions. I had an '86 Capri 5.0/5-speed and I had thought for the longest time I had a sort of 'LX Mustang' version of the Capri as mine did not have 'RS'; someone pointed out a few years back all the V8 Capris were technically RS whether they stated it or not like the earlier Capris had stamped on their side. Mine did have a lower aero body kit all around, including exhaust cutouts which I am not sure was factory stock, dealer stock, or simply aftermarket. Mine also had no factory air which was odd as it was seemingly a So. California car. I bought it in '89 from a Ford dealership in the L.A. area--a trade in on a new Mustang.
My dad had one. 60k miles, chrome exhaust tips, 5.0 red, original owner, never seen a winter. Sold it for 4K because he thought it would help his marriage out. He kicks himself in the ass everyday for selling it.

This is nothing but a Mustang copy with a different bumper over. And I had a 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 with those exact mag wheels.

Love that car, I had an 83 Capri 5.0 t-tops. It’s been many years but I swear it was a 4speed. And I don’t ever remember the RS badge. Did they make that car in another model ? Thanks for the video, brought back some wild memories of my youth! Lol.

Awesome Lou《☆》I bet they sold truckloads of 140mph speedos. 85mph is rediculous for a sporty car lol🤠☻🤠
Hi BDOG JR, No idea why you'd add a 85 MPH speedometer to anything other then a go kart. Lou
Always love your videos of classic Mercury’s.. love the treats in the trunk too.
Hi Thomas C, Glad you enjoy the "treats in the trunk" :-) Thank you for your wonderful encouraging words, and happy to read you're enjoying the Channel with me. Lou
I am very sure that hood scoop only came on the 2.3 turbo cars and none turbo cars. Other than that it was optional.

Come on Mercury bring back the Mercury Capri. If Acura can bring the two door car that put Acura on the map, than Mercury should reintroduce the world to the Mercury Capri. The Mercury Capri reminds me of the Dodge Daytona.
Hi Dennis, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Lou
We all know that (the return of the Capri) will never happen. Mercury went out of business in 2011.
Hey Lou. Lovely looking Mercury Capri RS. :)
Hey Jason, Glad you enjoy this "lovely" car :-) Lou
Man a exact match to my 85 mustang GT interior except for the 3 spoke steering wheel in mine. If I found one of these back in 1990 when I bought my Mustang would have a Capri RS today seeing as my first car in 1984 was a 1981 Capri YEA with the 3.3 litre. Sold it to my brother after the Mustang and he put it around a pole.My only concern how he was then what the hell 3.3 litre in summer dry roads around a pole how did you pull that off?
Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing,
Lou I saw this car for sale at Street side Classics and the car disappeared. Would you have the contact info for the owner? Looking to get another one. Thanks
Anthony can't help on the contact info. I hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon. You're welcome.
i got tricked into buying a new 1986 lynx diesel by a slick salesman. I would have killed for a car like this.
Hi rub one out rosie, Sounds like a lesson learned. Hope you're behind the wheel of one like this soon, Lou
1987 was the official last year.

Disclaimer--it is NOT mine or anyone I know, but after watching this, I put in 'Capri' in the L.A. Craigslist, and a decent shaped '86 is advertised with 176k miles; looks like a so-called 'survivor' and according to the poster is essentially stock except for a MAF conversion from speed-density. The guy has it offered at $7k. Might be worth it to someone reminiscing about their old Capri, or someone who wanted one but never bought one. I just don't have $7k...
Thanks for sharing a tip culcune
I have an 86” Capri Drag car certed for 8 seconds
WOW, that's FAST!
@@loucostabile Thanks! its taken a while to get her down there, believe it or not its just running a beefed up 351 Cleveland. Capris weigh nothing!

Thank you for sharing.
I would love to buy it Lou can you you please ask mike if he is interested on selling it
Not aware of this one being for sale. Hope you find the right car for you.
I had a friend who had a 5.0 Capri ,that decided to rebody it a Mustang, I gave him crap for doing that to a rare car
Clearly your Friend really wanted a Mustang in the end.
Back in 1993 I purchased a decommissioned 1988 Florida Highway Patrol Mustang. Before I purchased that car, what I really wanted was a Capri. Even back then, Capris were quite scarce compared to the Mustang an I always loved that bubble back as I call them as well as how uncommon they were. The American Sunroof Company (ASC) actually built some special Capris, too. Of course, some were the ASC McLaren convertibles but they also made some based on the regular hardtop cars that were probably my favorite. I am very happy that this one has been preserved, I haven't seen a Fox Capri in many, many years.
Here is a link to a Motorweek video on UA-cam where they reviewed the ASC McLaren Capris:

Hi brian5o, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge about Capri's :-) Lou
I had a '86 Capri with the 5.0/5-speed. it had a full lower body aero kit (not sure if that was factory stock, dealer stock, or aftermarket because I bought mine used from a Ford dealer in '89). This was in the L.A. area. Being L.A., I actually saw several McLaren convertibles, but mine was rarer as I seemingly had the only 5.0 Capri up to the time I sold it in '93 when I bought my new '93 Mustang GT (should have kept the Capri but that is another story for another time...)
Lou please make a video of 1972-1973 imperial lebaron there is no in depth videos on youtube =)
P.S: Greetins from Siberia =)
Hi Geornsk, If I see a good one, and I find the Care Taker, you'll see it too :-) Thank you for the greetings, Lou
This one is questionable. It’s been hacked up apparently or is an impostor. That RS in the trim WAS real and that RS Turbo wannabe hood is far from stock for this ‘86. I think the owner is a bit naive.
If you want to feature a rare Capri, I’ve got one of 1,223 1984 RS Turbo’s.

Had A 1983 Capri R.S. 302 H.O. 4 Speed car..nice car BUT I had 1970 Dodge Charger withdraw symptoms.. disliked the Italian Mustang although it was not a fair comparison ..70 CHARGER vs 83 CAPRI ...not even close>Lesson> SHOULD have NEVER sold the CHARGER!
Hi Steve Dwyer, Thank you for the 1rst hand knowledge comparison of your two cars :-) Lou
I had a '86 Capri 5.0/5-speed, and I beat a Charger (not sure of exact year as I did not know the differences between the '68, '69, or '70 bodies. The guy at the next light told me his was a 318. While the '86 was quick in the late 80s/early 90s, I couldn't believe I had blown off a 440 or even a 383...
@@culcune 318's were rated at 230 HP But were Overrated and really had under 200 HP...My 1970 Dodge Charger 500 started LIFE as a 318 car...I was 17 and poor..but was Happy I had the car I had ..and later I did put a better motor in the car a 360 POLICE motor with all the goodies mounted to give it about 375/400 HP ...that MATCHED the LOOK..and was FUN...finally SOLD IT after 15 YEARS of FUN...was a mistake...
The 1986 Capri 5.0 wou;ld have been 210HP.....same as the Mustang GT

Best decision Ford made was discontinuing Mercury

This guy work for Lincoln Mercury at the time obviously he doesn't know what he's talking about the GS was also available with a 5-liter I know I had a 85 GS 5 l
Hi Dean Williams, And yet he owns it, loves it, and is sharing it with you. Stay well, Lou
@@loucostabile Halo not trying to insult you there's times that I enjoy watching your show to see cars I haven't seen for quite some time on the 71 model model j Grand Prix and 1970 model SJ 455 ho automatic Grand Prix I've owned a few cars in my day I just have people going to start spouting off facts about their vehicles me being a purist I would appreciate true and actual facts again I'm not trying to insult you again I enjoyed your show on The Grand prix's and I just assumed that everybody knew what model j stood for John DeLorean anyway you have a good day my friend no hard feelings and I do apologize
@@deanwilliams867 Hi Dean, You're comment is tasteful and you're sharing your opinion I'm fine with that. Appreciate the apology, and we're good. My reply was a reminder, that when Car & Driver shares a cars stats (which I enjoy too) those numbers are logical and in the mind. When you see a car on this UA-cam Channel it's because people are emotionally connected to there "pride & joy" and I'm doing my best to capture there passion, so I'm sharing passion from the heart. Hope you see many more cars on this Channel we'll both enjoy :-) Lou
Dean take a look at the FACTORY BROCHURE. GS is 4 cylinder, RS is 5.0. The blue silicone hoses could be purchased through the Ford Motorsport Division.
Sorry I miss spoke about the horsepower. I hope you have a better day.
@@michaelhintz6187 you probably are right about the brochure but the GS 5.0 is identical in every way with the RS with the exception that the RS side molding say RS there is an emblem on the rear hatch that just says GS and that's the only thing that designates that it's a GS and on a GS the surround around the license plate is body color we're on an RS it's flat black and yes the blue silicone hoses were available through Ford Motorsports the hoses were specifically designed to last a life of the special service Mustang also if you didn't know that 86 was the first year for the 5 liter to use a 10 and a half inch clutch and 8.8 rear end and true dual exhaust 1985 it was two into one back out to two and a 10 inch clutch and a 7 1/2 inch rear end, I kept my 85 which was medium Canyon red with gray interior just like yours for 3 years until I purchase a new LX 5.0 in 1988 anyway was cool seeing your car thanks have a great day
Also he doesn't know the torque or horsepower figures of this car 1985 which was the last year for carburetor was 212 horsepower 265 foot pounds of torque 1986 they want to fuel injection the horsepower drop to 200 horsepower and 285 foot pounds of torque also goes blue blue hoses are not performance hoses they are police special service package hoses that came on all Mustang police cars once again somebody talkin about something they don't know anything about just like Lou nothing annoys me more than to listen to people talk and speak about cars that they know nothing about I just stand there and giggle to myself especially when the person owns the car and they don't know what they're driving but I guess in this world you can say whatever you want because it's on the internet it must be true
Hi Dean, Regardless of the "Motor Trend" & "Motorweek" & "Car & Driver" numbers, who cares, when you care enough about a car to buy it. I know LOTS of people who don't know the numbers, and yet they LOVE the car. So here is a question for you. What is more important, knowing the statistic and the numbers, or owning the car? Stay well, Lou
@@loucostabile so true we can all spout numbers all I was saying is these are Ford numbers not my numbers not Motor Trend does four numbers I just like one speak people speak of their classic cars that maybe they know what they're speaking of again does it really matter I guess not I guess I'm just kind of miffed at the whole car collector world at this point any longer I remember when you could buy these cars for a thousand to $1,500 all day long and because of Barrett-Jackson and Mecum Auction everybody thinks your car is worth $1000000 it's taking a hobby away from the true collector unless you've owned these cars forever
These were not very good cars; unreliable. The 302 engine leaked oil.
Wrong--I beat the crap out of mine for nearly four years, and the only problem I had was I needed a new clutch. You might have owned a beat up version. I bought my '86 in '89 and never had any issues, and I raced it any chance I had.
