  • Before anything else I'd like to stress that this video was triggered by the Plume from Hieroglyphic, but doesn't feature it. It's NOT intended as click-bait, it's an educational video. If you took the bait, go watch DivKid or Tom Churchill's walkthrough (linked above).
The concept is from Curtis Roads Microsound book. I read about the subject and tried to patch a few experiments with various results. Some good, some bad, and some turned out to be amazing. This video also fits my goals for 2024, where it's not always necessary to get yourself a new module when your existing modules still have plenty to offer. Happy patching!

Very good job ! Your video makes me want to try with my modular, thanks !
Curtis Roads books (Microsound and others) are a huge source of inspiration.

I really should go teaching this stuff at a music school or conservatory.

definatly not a waste... im a modular newb, and i have learned soo musch from your videos... keep the knowledge and eargasms flowing!!! honestly the vid with stolper beats and chasing lights is what pushed me over the esge. im still trying to understand that one. ill post a ? over there lol. 😅

Thanks! Yes, I loved making that video too! Actually, Stolperbeats is doing all the hard work in that video but it's also a bit frantic. Sometimes you'd just want a tight kick/hat as a foundation so you can dance to it. Chasing lights is a simple gate pattern sequencer with switches for every step. Super simple. When used together, a rhythm just comes to life. Obviously it's also important to pick the right drum sounds :).

Instead of a waveform at the beginning of the chain it’s after the grains making them conform to a cloud shape with equal space and pulselets

You definitely know more about the subject than I do :). I guess using a granular engine would also be great for making pulselets either equally spaced or with a bit of entropy.

Pulse train…. I’m sure you know just as much…. There’s a free plugin of this module called pulsar check it out it’s very strange and to be fair the paper leaves a bit up to interpretation.

Shapeshifter grain with hardsync does this envelopeless microsound the forced hardsync wave shape is where it gets interesting

You're coming to class with the wrong book. It's Microsound by Curtis Roads. But it's good to ask the trick questions!
