My wife was working for ey. And they were giving work like hell. She was always working, from morning to late night.
Soon she started feeling low and depressed. But still she continued to work.
But ultimately she has to quit the job. Only after that she began to look happy in almost 6months.
I am very glad that she took that decision.

It's not only EY but many US based companies. In IT for good 5 years of my youth I have worked till 2 am in night and many times entire night, manytimes weekends included. It took some autoimmune diseases and bad workplace incidents to understand my priorities and also workplace politics. The problem is our parents teach us to follow seniors and teachers and in workplaces young sincere students replace managers for their teachers and don't argue. What I have learnt is never try to be managers' favourite or be in top resources just work on your skills and learn to say no.

The main problem is the unaccounted work being given in Indian IT corporates. They give us one or two tasks during the sprint planning. But in between the sprint they give us the remaining 80% of the work which goes unaccounted. Also, in my previous company which had a distributed team (India + US), the US teammates only work for 6 hours per day. But our Indian manager will force us to work 14 hours per day to show more productivity. The US teammates will switch off their phone after work hours, but we have to give support 24x7, else we will be fired. It's really pathetic the way they treat us in Indian companies. It's literally like, they are working to make a living, but we are living only to work. The government is also turning a blind eye to these corporate behaviours which leaves us only option to start an employee union ourselves. Then the government will listen to us for the vote bank.

EY should be made accountable. The government should take severe action over this unruliness. They should set an example of what will happen if the corporates try to exploit the employees. If they decide to turn a blind eye to this in order to support the corporates, then they will lose out on the youngsters votes.

It's not meant for everyone. IT's high time people start realizing what they are signing up for. I have 5 ppl who work with big-4 in my building and I've never seen any of them arrive before midnight. Avg arrival time is 1230am...2am isn't unusual. Weight gain and insomnia are freq issues. Sometimes even with Managers. Again, other companies in other business domains are not too different. Unfortunately all that India has to offer is cheap work and not classy work. Which means there will be more hours than pay. And there will be people who will drop the ball - which will inc work hours for entire team. Trying to compete with lack of quality, talent, and currency /paying power translates into sucha work culture.

I have worked in the private sector for the last 17 years across industries & I have averaged 72 hours per week. Although I have made a reasonable amount of capital, it has taken a severe toll on my health. I finally quit last year after 2 consecutive surgeries. The scenario is really bad across industries due to revenue targets, competition & cost cutting. A corporate runs on profit & if you are getting a 10 lac p.a package, you have to generate 10 times of your salary as revenue to keep your job. That's the benchmark. It's a call an individual has to take - if to join the game , how long to play & when to quit. But always remember that your life is too precious.

Working in corporate is rat race and stressful but in India it is more so. 90% of the managers lack management and leadership skills and carry many toxic traits which company leaders ignore because they only look at outcomes achieved and timelines met. Poor resources and budget planning leads to unmanageable workload and scope-creep. Companies in India make it difficult for employees to switch jobs with unfair 3 months notice period (another mean for exploiting) and demanding an experience letter from previous company at the time of hiring. A lot of people leave India to get out from this never ending toxic work culture and environment.

The employees at big 4 are usually depressed, lonely and suicide prone worldwide. I was a Senior Manager in one of big 4 outside India , I was working 24 hours a day , 3 days without sleep still was ridiculed by partners for not taking more responsibilities. As a result I started getting anxiety attacks. I informed the partner I was working with about this, I was given more work as a result, when I complained of unmanaged work I was told to bring solutions and not problems. I started visiting cardiologists due to persistent chest pains, ultimately I resigned and that day I was the happiest in a long time. I informed about all this to HR and in written but no action was taken against the partner. I am bringing up this incident to tell you that this toxic work culture is not just in India, this is ingrained in big 4 worldwide. Her manager assigned her work, but she was also earning a very handsome salary that few people can attain; she wasn't doing it for free. She definitely wanted to rise to the top of the hierarchy and achieve great name and fame. The problem is that many people want the authority, salary, and benefits of top positions without wanting to put in the necessary work. They prefer the lower-level responsibilities and privileges of mid-level employees, who come and go at convenient times and enjoy a work-life balance. Many people have left that manager; why didn't she? There's a simple rule: you can't be exploited unless you're also receiving something in return.

If they can prove that they allocated tasks to all the team members in a similar way and did not target her by giving her too much work, how can they be arrested?

Recently, I got an offer from a decent company. I researched about the company's culture and got to know that employees in the company are facing lots of lay offs issue and the company is quite unstable. I rejected the offer. I felt its better to reject than having a higher pay.
As per this case, the manager must be arrested.

Our heart goes out to Mrs & Mr. Sebastian who lost their daughter a young girl full of dreams at such a young age to the work pressure of these Audit firms - this culture exists in all over especially (E&Y, PWC, KPMG) the fresh CA’s are put in such strains by their Team Leaders until they rise to Managers then the same shit happens at the bottom, the young kids it’s their 1st job after acquiring their CA certification - the company Top management should take cognizance to overcome such murder.

Instead paying 50 lakh to single person give 5 lakh to 8 person and 10 lakh to their lead 🙏🏻 that’s how you can better manage work pressure

That manager should be investigated and have to get insights on how he treated Anna. Watching cricket and giving overburdening work to a junior is clear case of irresponsibility which took her life. How can that inhuman behaviour from a human be ignored?!!!!!!! After it took a human's life!!!!! Cricket while one is slogging due to undue instruction while eating into personal time which evry human deserves and rightful by labour law! Isnt that bullying!!!!!!

A single person auditing a big enterprise like Bajaj auto is no joke, they should have hired more people but these companies just hire few people and pay them a lot , there will be pressure to retain the job as it pays a lot

It is in the interest of the government to intervene now more than ever. Bringing in labour laws with minimum wage, 5 day work weeks, overtime pay for extra hours, right to disconnect, mandatory paid leaves, mandatory disability friendly workspaces etc. will mean that corporates and private employers will have to distribute work more evenly compelling them to hire more employees in turn. That will create more jobs and boost the economy. The second compelling need I feel is for IT Employees to have unions because without it, we have zero negotiation power even when one of our own dies. If this incident does not shake this society, then more Indians will immigrate and we should stop judging them! 😞

The main point is that these firms they do not do any productive work but only prepare and produce project reports, process reports, PoVs, MIS Reports. So to create importance and to show they are indespesible the middle management create a work pressure and stress on the lower management and the ground workforce. Moreover, there is a tendency to create unnecessary work out of nothing just to show how hard they are working to create a new business for the organization. Over and above the management always do mental harassment of the employees.

I submitted to him my sons medical certificate but still he couldnt understand my situation , i tried to work hard got up 4 clock and slept late night , finally my health also becames worst .So i asked the resignation and left the job.most of my relatives laughed at me becaus i was jobless one year.
