My wife was working for ey. And they were giving work like hell. She was always working, from morning to late night. Soon she started feeling low and depressed. But still she continued to work. But ultimately she has to quit the job. Only after that she began to look happy in almost 6months. I am very glad that she took that decision.
It's not only EY but many US based companies. In IT for good 5 years of my youth I have worked till 2 am in night and many times entire night, manytimes weekends included. It took some autoimmune diseases and bad workplace incidents to understand my priorities and also workplace politics. The problem is our parents teach us to follow seniors and teachers and in workplaces young sincere students replace managers for their teachers and don't argue. What I have learnt is never try to be managers' favourite or be in top resources just work on your skills and learn to say no.
The main problem is the unaccounted work being given in Indian IT corporates. They give us one or two tasks during the sprint planning. But in between the sprint they give us the remaining 80% of the work which goes unaccounted. Also, in my previous company which had a distributed team (India + US), the US teammates only work for 6 hours per day. But our Indian manager will force us to work 14 hours per day to show more productivity. The US teammates will switch off their phone after work hours, but we have to give support 24x7, else we will be fired. It's really pathetic the way they treat us in Indian companies. It's literally like, they are working to make a living, but we are living only to work. The government is also turning a blind eye to these corporate behaviours which leaves us only option to start an employee union ourselves. Then the government will listen to us for the vote bank.
You are right . We Indians are good in English . If our Indian Government brings a law of max 9 hour shift. Then companies will follow it. They will not move out of India , I bet , except Indians nobody is good in English.
their business model itself is so trash. they hire 1 consultant for 1 cr instead they could hire a team of 5 for 20 lpa. I dont know who are the clowns running the show at these SO CALLED TOP MANAGEMENT COMPANIES. I see only mismanagement from these supposedly top management firms. strange world we live in.
Then tell the givt of ten yrs to create jobs Don’t forget beggr cant be choosers U ppl and parents like. These are becoming a threat to get more opportunities in this country Totally irresponsible No one forced anyone to work over shift hours They can resign if they can’t
@@cherp5837 true. This girl was gullible and her manager dumped his share of responsibility on her and watched cricket . At least her parents should have given in time attention to her closely.
EY should be made accountable. The government should take severe action over this unruliness. They should set an example of what will happen if the corporates try to exploit the employees. If they decide to turn a blind eye to this in order to support the corporates, then they will lose out on the youngsters votes.
Seriously?? If any government announce a freebie most of the youngster will go and vote for them. And also most of the corporate people don't vote as they work in different places mostly further from their home town. I've seen in my own office most of the guys skip the hassle of traveling to their home town to cast votes, they are more than happy to work and get an OT wage for that day .
I work till midnight (3am) from the past 7 years, nothing happened to me In fact my co-workers are also females who work late at night. I understand, this culture must be stopped but this is the main reason death sounds like excuses or exaggerated
I am a CA myself, I was working in corporate for for 5 years after passing CA, where I was harassed to the core, Being a female was made to sit late nights, and was sent home alone during wee hours of night. Had to take my ECG and had to undergo a major operation due to stress, anxiety and pressure level being high. I left this rat race and now at peace. Thank god I survived all this trauma, corporates are hell.
It's not meant for everyone. IT's high time people start realizing what they are signing up for. I have 5 ppl who work with big-4 in my building and I've never seen any of them arrive before midnight. Avg arrival time is 1230am...2am isn't unusual. Weight gain and insomnia are freq issues. Sometimes even with Managers. Again, other companies in other business domains are not too different. Unfortunately all that India has to offer is cheap work and not classy work. Which means there will be more hours than pay. And there will be people who will drop the ball - which will inc work hours for entire team. Trying to compete with lack of quality, talent, and currency /paying power translates into sucha work culture.

Best solution is working class Indians should boycott buying non essential goods and services until such laws are enacted, then it will force the government to bring in such laws to prevent the economy from crashing
The EY India head is now saying he "regrets" missing Anna's funeral....Yeah sure... The only reason he 'regrets' missing her funeral is because he is now being called out and exposed. He was probably too busy playing golf at the Club while her funeral was going on.
Maybe he is using the opportunity for publicity also. I don't think he has any compassion, had he got one this incident would never have happened. They are good in lying
Leaving a toxic environment is the only solution.. it's not practically possible to change the whole environment into a good workplace when it's already in it.
People should keep their necessities limited, nowadays people take too much loans mainly for showoff eg car loans housing loan education loan for children etc, that loans burden snatch resign from toxic environment
@@dev7155g agreed 💯.. people earning 1lk per month are being bankrupt after 2 days just by paying emi for luxuries that could have easily avoided in the first place.. corporates use this for their advantages

I have worked in the private sector for the last 17 years across industries & I have averaged 72 hours per week. Although I have made a reasonable amount of capital, it has taken a severe toll on my health. I finally quit last year after 2 consecutive surgeries. The scenario is really bad across industries due to revenue targets, competition & cost cutting. A corporate runs on profit & if you are getting a 10 lac p.a package, you have to generate 10 times of your salary as revenue to keep your job. That's the benchmark. It's a call an individual has to take - if to join the game , how long to play & when to quit. But always remember that your life is too precious.
I am a homoeopathic doctor, many patient come from it bt with depression due to workstress,1st reason being nightshift working for American shift, bcoz it is daytime in america, during night in india,2nd is corporate mindgames by manager to pressurize for work use them, underpay and choose another person to their conveince after their work is done,3rd is treat them as option when they want u they want u when they don't want they don't want,3rd is ego satisfaction of manager even if he is wrong or less capable than employees he don't want employees to overtake him in work modusoperandi,4th is long hours of work 12hours so that narayanmurthy can become trillionare corporate slavery, america and Australia have max 6hours shift, and manager or hr can't call u after work hours, they focus on employees mental health very much.

I'm an engineer working in an Indian MNC company. I worked in India for many years in the same company and now moved abroad to work in a European onsite project. Now some Indian guys started getting into management roles here and now slowly I'm able to get the back home feeling now 😢. Stress started going up for no reason 😂😢.
That's the mentality of indians btw not all...people forgot to be humans running behind money made all humanity, kindness honesty, loyal everything got vanished. Without profit how they can run business and how they can employ when there is no work. Can anyone retain one handyman at home for a day without work and pay?
Profit is fine. (Double digit) Increase in profit every year? Squeeze people to get year on year increase in profit? Assure everything in the world to Customers to get the project and putting pressure on people to meet the impractical commitments is fine? If someone is performing their job correctly rating them as "meeting expectations" and having two more levels just to avoid payouts and promotions is right? My manager is not doing his core work. He assigned it to me and he is focussing on that extra things to get promotion. He just works for his boss. That's it. The corporate engine has to be overhauled thoroughly. I was in awe when my company started doing social work. Later I understood it was a mandatory thing from Govt to spend at least 3 to 4% of earnings to social work. Otherwise these morons will not spend anything from their packets.
Dude there was a time of fixed shift and anything beyond was OT. It's managers Indians who ruined it. And government is busy giving free ka anaj and houses to poor

90 percent of population is unemployed and rest 10 percent have to work like donkeys. There needs to be balance. Imagine if 5 young unemployed indians could take the workload off from Anna, she could have lived and also be happy. Still its not too late. CREATE JOBS AND DISTRIBUTE WORK.
@@_swapnilmishra_ Also, foreign managers are generally better than Indian managers. Service based companies exploit workers and pay less. Not sure about product based companies.
Working in corporate is rat race and stressful but in India it is more so. 90% of the managers lack management and leadership skills and carry many toxic traits which company leaders ignore because they only look at outcomes achieved and timelines met. Poor resources and budget planning leads to unmanageable workload and scope-creep. Companies in India make it difficult for employees to switch jobs with unfair 3 months notice period (another mean for exploiting) and demanding an experience letter from previous company at the time of hiring. A lot of people leave India to get out from this never ending toxic work culture and environment.
I totally agree....90% of the managers are not fit to be managers.....most of them get the position due to their chaapluci policy.....and then start torturing their immediate subordinates...also they cant see some other team member doing better than them.....they pocket all the good and fat salaries that the companies pay them....and are not ready to take the accountability whenever things go wrong.....they simply put the blame on the subordinates....then ...what are they for......if they cant tk accountability.....why to pay them so much.....they get so much training for conflict management and all such things....but wen the real time comes....no one is good at handling crisis....all good for nothing
EY as well as her manager should be held accountable for her death. Are we going back to the age of servitude? This kind of workload on employees? They say the people are their most valuable assets but no money is most precious to them. When I was required to delegate work to our off shore team I made sure there was no unrealistic expectations put on the team even if my manager wanted me to do so. I used to put my foot on unnecessary deadlines. Shame of EY and her manager. I hope a formal complaint has been made with Indian authorities.
In EY they want employee to work for 18 hours a day. Even if you are having any heaklthg issue or some one is admitted in hospital. If you are not available as per the clinet requirements for meetings due to any emergency that will impact your performance and career growth. Extreme level of politics and power play.
They pay higher wages and every employee has the right to quit. No action can and should be taken against them. We don't have laws like Europe which prohibit companies from making their employees work more than 8 hours a day.
I've quit my first job after 1.5 years due to extreme work pressure and long working hours and no support from my employer to make the conditions better. During my notice period I've asked to provide KT and first guy has submitted papers in very next week after seeing the work load and the second guy put down papers in the first week itself..... Quitting such jobs is ok, don't worry about the gap in the resume.
Same thing happened with me...soon after i put my papers and transitioned my project, the next person who took over my place put down her papers within a few months due to immense work pressure and also nepotism where the manager favoured one gir whom they were involved withl who played politics left right centre .
If EY is so work friendly and fortune 500 company to work with, they should have a Suspended her manager by now for investigation. Did they do it ? No and because the manager would have been in E&Y for two decades so seniority comes to picture and Rajiv Memani himself will have to take the blame.
Why did the manager reschedule the call according to their favour and what was the extra work she was doing after late night work?? Strict investigation has to be initiated

I could not even quit, because then i wont get my degree. At the end, i did not even apply for conversion to permanent position. Who needs such a job?? Be the salary 75k or 80k. they will credit it perfectly without a single delay. But you have to live to spend it
The employees at big 4 are usually depressed, lonely and suicide prone worldwide. I was a Senior Manager in one of big 4 outside India , I was working 24 hours a day , 3 days without sleep still was ridiculed by partners for not taking more responsibilities. As a result I started getting anxiety attacks. I informed the partner I was working with about this, I was given more work as a result, when I complained of unmanaged work I was told to bring solutions and not problems. I started visiting cardiologists due to persistent chest pains, ultimately I resigned and that day I was the happiest in a long time. I informed about all this to HR and in written but no action was taken against the partner. I am bringing up this incident to tell you that this toxic work culture is not just in India, this is ingrained in big 4 worldwide. Govts everywhere are not doing enough to protect genuine employees and we need more support from governments
Her manager assigned her work, but she was also earning a very handsome salary that few people can attain; she wasn't doing it for free. She definitely wanted to rise to the top of the hierarchy and achieve great name and fame. The problem is that many people want the authority, salary, and benefits of top positions without wanting to put in the necessary work. They prefer the lower-level responsibilities and privileges of mid-level employees, who come and go at convenient times and enjoy a work-life balance. Many people have left that manager; why didn't she? There's a simple rule: you can't be exploited unless you're also receiving something in return.
My humble request to Suresh Gopi, is that, kindly work with the Central Government to bring about a change in the work culture of Corporates , so that , employees will be benefited.
Implement strict rules in India. Working hours must be 8 hrs, for the, employees in all the fields. No managers should call us and ask for extra work from home. If at all we do extra hrs in some situation, the employer should give double pay for each hour. Leave is our right. My officials have told me " Leave is not your right"😢.
Smart way to handle : Dont audit at all or do some namesake audit.. fill the form/sheet and submit after 12 hours.. meanwhile enjoy the time.. who cares and who checks ? Nobody can audit an auditor .. Manager is also doing the same thing.. ultimately it is managers' responsibility as he is signing.. even if they find out it will be approx 2-3 years and after that resign and switch to another company with higher package and jump.. Real problem is Indians are very disciplined in our work.. we should learn where to be undiscplined.. We should also learn to enjoy and not carry baggage of work load on our heads..
This is the same culture with Deloitte also my wife works day night Saturdays Sundays i hardly get time to connect with her ... WORST WORK CULTURE DURING NOVEMBERS she s worked till 3 AM AGAIN GET UP AT 9 AND WORK
Easier said than done, my friend. The culture in India makes it difficult to say no without so called 'valid reason'. Valid reason means family and kids. For single person its hell

Her parents encouraged a culture of sharing. She shared the details of her struggle. Not many share with parents what's happening at their workplace. They told her to leave the job as well.
Why Bajaj Auto has to worry? They paid for this work. EY signed up for this and so did Anna. Just that understanding and expectations differed with Manager. Whatever she did not sign up for should be put on paper and EY should taken to court. It's tragic but that's how people solve this.
That toxic manager should be punished...I remember in one of the MNC one employee attempted suicide due to extreme work pressure and still his manger is working for the same company strict action was not taken against him..
Actually these people take advantage of the situation of most of the employees. Many of us can't quit a job just like that. Getting a job nowadays is a Herculean task. Situation in most of the industry is same.
So basically they are reducing the no. of employees, so that they can hike up the salary of each staff. Using the hiked salary they are attracting the workers. So even if some of them quit due to overwork, they will be able to attract replacements quickly.
Do u know, in US women are not entitled even a single day paid leave after maternity as per Govt policies . Any leaves anyone is getting is purely out of their company’s corporate and HR policies. In India, Govt has made it mandatory to give some 3 to 6 month’s paid maternity leave which is one of the best. By US comparison Indian Govt is doing much better in this regard
I faced toxic work culture and i left the job, now im alive but still I get nightmares and anxiety about it, its trauma will never come out of it. Couldn't sleep, didnt eat food and try to work late night at 1 am. I didnt drink water becuase mental harassment later i suffered from so many disease i had to go through surgery.
the corporates should be brought to books....when the same counterpart in US are giving preference to work life balance and avoid calls and official messages post working hrs...what is the necessity of showing off for the indian counterparts.....let all the employees work only during the designated office hrs and refuse any work after the office hrs unless very very urgent ..or emergency....and emergency work cant be everyday.....once in a blue moon is ok.....if there is extra work.....let the corporates hire many people and make them work....instead of putting pressure on one employee by giving them the workload of 3 to 5 people........this is unacceptable

About a year back, I had initiated a public grievance and escalated upto PM office seeking enforcement of psychology training for HR professionals. The officials played ping-pong with my grievance across departments and finally left it in the dust bin. The problem with India is, elected people (who enjoy ultimate power) are uneducated and are expected to control the educated govt. employees (the IAS, IPS et al). Such employees know how to hoodwink their bosses (Ministers).
Conclusion- Labour dept should monitor work given to employees in pvt companies Managers should not be cricket fans All employees in pvt company should be given oderly to help them eat on time, change into nightdress before sleeping etc like in military Hrd dept must appoint 1 person to admit employees in hospital and if person dies to recover organise their funeral What cannot be changed is 2.5x salary paid to employees

Exactly 3 employees work given for one employee is more in India they can bring in laws to make people be free from work stress and recruit more people so that unemployment will also come down.
@@WPS691 @WPS691 On what grounds can they be arrested when there are no laws protecting the worker rights in the first place? EY can always say that they did not breach the labour laws in any way . Besides this, the managers get evaluated in the company based on how well they get work which is supposed to be done by 10 people with just 2-3 people failing which they would be kicked out of the company. So it is literally their job to see who is available and allocate tasks to them continuously. If they can prove that they allocated tasks to all the team members in a similar way and did not target her by giving her too much work, how can they be arrested? The root cause of the problem is the lack of labour laws and ruthless corporate practices where they treat people like slaves and not any individual in my opinion.

1 issue i have observed in my own small way with accounting firms is that they don't work on monthly data throughout the year! They wait for the entire FY to get over and then sit on a pile of data in the final couple of months. Unnecessary. I am sure there is much that can be done through the year with partial data as well (call them pro-rata sheets and reports). Final months should be consolidation and presentation aspects only.
The time allocated for a tasks is not enough. So employees have to sacrifice their personal time to complete the tasks. This is how the big 4 makes profit.
The problem with Indian work culture is that they have taken the concept of work is worship too far. And that is why foreign recruiters find Indian workers suitable. The concept of slave culture has not been eradicated from the minds of Indians at all.
Companies need to set up policies that allow employees to complain against these kind of toxic managers. They should track laptop screen time and a red flag needs to be raised if someone is working inhuman hours.
Parents should advise kids to handle pressure well and say NO to things which affects their health. Also we should advise kids to leave the job when these things happen
Horrible manager, he should be held responsible . I saw similar thing with one of the clients at my company. He use to make us work even on Sundays for two months straight
Recently, I got an offer from a decent company. I researched about the company's culture and got to know that employees in the company are facing lots of lay offs issue and the company is quite unstable. I rejected the offer. I felt its better to reject than having a higher pay. As per this case, the manager must be arrested.
Our heart goes out to Mrs & Mr. Sebastian who lost their daughter a young girl full of dreams at such a young age to the work pressure of these Audit firms - this culture exists in all over especially (E&Y, PWC, KPMG) the fresh CA’s are put in such strains by their Team Leaders until they rise to Managers then the same shit happens at the bottom, the young kids it’s their 1st job after acquiring their CA certification - the company Top management should take cognizance to overcome such murder. We pray that Almighty God Grant Eternal Rest to Anna’s departed Soul Amen 🕯🕯🕯& strength to Anna’s family.
My manager is the same. He takes one hour break so usually. In the evening, he goes for tea and snacks, comes after one hour, comes takes his bag and leaves for home. So according to him he leaves office at 8:30 wheras he already at 7:30
That manager should be investigated and have to get insights on how he treated Anna. Watching cricket and giving overburdening work to a junior is clear case of irresponsibility which took her life. How can that inhuman behaviour from a human be ignored?!!!!!!! After it took a human's life!!!!! Cricket while one is slogging due to undue instruction while eating into personal time which evry human deserves and rightful by labour law! Isnt that bullying!!!!!!
A single person auditing a big enterprise like Bajaj auto is no joke, they should have hired more people but these companies just hire few people and pay them a lot , there will be pressure to retain the job as it pays a lot
It is in the interest of the government to intervene now more than ever. Bringing in labour laws with minimum wage, 5 day work weeks, overtime pay for extra hours, right to disconnect, mandatory paid leaves, mandatory disability friendly workspaces etc. will mean that corporates and private employers will have to distribute work more evenly compelling them to hire more employees in turn. That will create more jobs and boost the economy. The second compelling need I feel is for IT Employees to have unions because without it, we have zero negotiation power even when one of our own dies. If this incident does not shake this society, then more Indians will immigrate and we should stop judging them! 😞
"Guys, our life is precious; no company or manager can dominate us. Remember, for the sake of ambition and passion, don't make your life miserable. Some people may take advantage of your drive, but never forget there's a difference between humans and machines - prioritize your well-being."
The main point is that these firms they do not do any productive work but only prepare and produce project reports, process reports, PoVs, MIS Reports. So to create importance and to show they are indespesible the middle management create a work pressure and stress on the lower management and the ground workforce. Moreover, there is a tendency to create unnecessary work out of nothing just to show how hard they are working to create a new business for the organization. Over and above the management always do mental harassment of the employees.

@yogeshgupta3125 only one solution, tax paying middle class should take to streets like Punjab Farmers and block roads
@@user-fw1hj3vv2kwhich autoimmune disease you are suffering

I think everwhere is same if u feel pressure and unable to bear please resign and chnage the company
This matter should be taken carefully urgent need to frame guideline for working CA even articles are working in extreme pressure A taskforce should be made and ensure no CA or pursuing CA should work or remain in office after 5pm
With company , manager also plays am important role. The bad part is sometimes manager don't want to work , he start his/her behaviour like he is a govt. Employee. And put pressure on the team members only.
Oh god. Such a painful story
Please take strict action against EY. Find out her manager, he/she is the main culprits . The managers are the main culprit. HR is the next culprits. sack all of them. we need strict labour law in india, doesn't matter its Private company / public company. All these managers dont know anything, they just put the pressure on the employees to get the work done. All are just inhuman, no empathy , its all about Profit. I understand the company need to earn the Profit, but not at all the at the cost of someones life.
Private practice as a chartered accountant would have been better
Sorry to hear this
May her soul rest in peace
Did she tell you about work pressure
Why you didn't tell her to quit
Parents please
Iam also mother of a 24 year old boy
Please talk to children
Tell them to share everything with you
Build that confidence
After this incident I was so scared that I calledmy son and asked about his well being
The father I salute he is able to talk otherwise think how miserable condition
1 issue i have observed in my own small way with accounting firms is that they don't work on monthly data throughout the year! They wait for the entire FY to get over and then sit on a pile of data in the final couple of months. Unnecessary. I am sure there is much that can be done through the year with partial data as well (call them pro-rata sheets and reports). Final months should be consolidation and presentation aspects only.
The time allocated for a tasks is not enough. So employees have to sacrifice their personal time to complete the tasks. This is how the big 4 makes profit.
No fixed office hours - continuous harassment. Situation will be even worse in years to come. Needs government intervention on this issue.
So, the lesson for ALL of us is - Learn To Say NO!
India needs a strong IT work Union
If you're too stressed just take a break and go. Dont work yoir a** off for a dream job.
Its your dream job, its not the only job.
Very unfortunate. The girl was extremely sincere and obedient.
Parents should advise kids to handle pressure well and say NO to things which affects their health.
Also we should advise kids to leave the job when these things happen
We are with you uncle
Horrible manager, he should be held responsible . I saw similar thing with one of the clients at my company. He use to make us work even on Sundays for two months straight
Recently, I got an offer from a decent company. I researched about the company's culture and got to know that employees in the company are facing lots of lay offs issue and the company is quite unstable. I rejected the offer. I felt its better to reject than having a higher pay.
As per this case, the manager must be arrested.
quitting job was better choice thn quitting her life. poor girl, RIP.
Even EY CEO should be punished and made example of strict labour laws.
So according to him he leaves office at 8:30 wheras he already at 7:30
So you are waiting to become Manager in same company. All the Best.
@@property_tommorow9918 who told you that?
U assumed by yourself?
You know me?
Instead paying 50 lakh to single person give 5 lakh to 8 person and 10 lakh to their lead 🙏🏻 that’s how you can better manage work pressure
Relies and regulation is one thing that is VERY NOVICE FOR INDIA
EY leadership to be held to account. All involved must be booked and arrested.
Same issue with PwC, Boston Consulting Group etc.
Its consultancy services man. They are now in software engineering field. Tax/transaction/accounting/auditing Softwares.
This is not suicide it's clear cut murder 😢💔
She didn't commit suicide..she collapsed after coming back from office
Now a days if we don't have a job,all are laughing at us.because of that we always try to adjust our job in a toxic work place. Before two year my son 4 year old got pnemonia ,there was no one to take care him, because of that i took 2 weeks leave. That time my boss told to me you can choose ur career or family, and try to learn balancing both life and work. he needed more explanation for my leave and messaged me my pending work every day when i was in hospital with my son. I submitted to him my sons medical certificate but still he couldnt understand my situation , i tried to work hard got up 4 clock and slept late night , finally my health also becames worst .So i asked the resignation and left the job.most of my relatives laughed at me becaus i was jobless one year.
This is absolutely bad on the corporate companies damm it, very evil
