    I 100% agree. We used TGTB this year for my kindergarten(ish). We tried level 3 with my 4th grader(ish) and it was challenging to jump into it. That being said, I can't tell you how much my daughter loves this material. I love this. I love how peaceful we all feel sitting down for these lessons. I am excited about the new updates but I'm also interested in kindergarten prep. I'm not sure if my youngest can jump into the Kindergarten level without having some phonics and basic cvc words prior. Love this so much I see a strong possibility of trying out the High School material for my oldest (currently 7th). Thanks for your videos. I've watched so many of them.

      Haha!!! I’m excited also! Even though we’re sticking with the current course, I can say, I do love the updates of the level 4. And so I think the new updates and look will follow that! Their level 5 updates are already out and it looks more fun than the older style. Sometimes it’s just the colors and fonts that make all the difference. Weird how that works! 😉

    I have been researching the two for a while now. when I go onto local facebook/homeschool groups and ask opinions I get more of the same answers that seem to be lazy. mostly i read that TGTB have too much detail , THATS WHAT I WANT SINCE MASTERBOOKS DOESNT GIVE MUCH INTO TELLING THE TEACHER HOW & WHAT TO TEACH. The response to masterbooks is that they like it bc its short and parents dont have to much to do. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THE IN DEPTH COMPARISION. THIS JUST MADE THE FINAL DECISION.

    I was torn. Love the idea of Master Books and MB was better than Christian Light Education, for example. (CLE is solid, but really dry and literally made my kids cry sometimes.) But, we didn't do as much of MB consistently... A lot felt SO repetitive. I like their science and history books a lot, though. Bought some of the texts/books just to have for whenever we want to read them.
    Your in depth review made me realize TGATB may be a better fit. My whole family of 6 has ADHD and we need curriculum that spirals and is engaging. We also are all creative. So, the art component sounds awesome!
    One of my kids special interest for 6 years is history and geography. And, all of the activities. I am glad to find out that it supports creationism, but doesn't go too deep into it, since the creator of the curriculum is believing quite differently from my family outside of that. Wise move.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  2 роки тому +1

      Yes on the Christian aspect! If I saw something that we couldn’t agree with, I’d be blowing the whistle. But it’s soooo high level.
      It’s definitely got creativity in there!!!

    I loved listening to you. You speak clearly, you’re funny, to the point. I literally felt like I was at your house drinking some coffee and getting your thoughts. Had to subscribe. I have been doing level K with my 4 year old who is an advanced learner for her age. I love the good and the beautiful and she is doing so well with it. But with many critical reviews, I find myself going down that what if… or maybe we should… I’m looking forward to the new changes because I don’t want to push her too much with her still being young. I’m hoping the new level one will work well for her. If not we will take a break or find something else. I never thought I would really be a homeschool mom, but here we are. Love your channel!

    We look at the back when we need to as well as when prompted!!! We are excited for new updates but I’m not sure if the app will be internationally available!!! TGTB phonics is awesome!!! The masterbooks books are on the website I believe!!! We are excited to use the marvels of creation as a reader for my youngest when she learns to read. We use our own readers but we did use the level 1 reader form TGTB!!! The reader came with the free download and I wanted my kids to practice phonics!!! I love Masterbooks LA 2-4 but we did not like level 1 or 5 at all! This is a very informative review and I watched it even though I am not planning to use Masterbooks or TGTB to teach my younger two to read! I just was curious about your thoughts about these two. Great comparison for anyone considering these. I did just buy TGTB prek for the boys and I am excited to start that with them. Who knows? Maybe we will do Kinder, but I've always thought I would do LOE with them, but they aren't quite ready for LOE yet.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan

      You’re using TGTB pre-K???? I’m surprised! 😉 is this your first purchase from them?
      TGTB is just so good at the “making it fun” aspect they’ve even got me eyeing their math! Lol! And I’ve used Singapore for the younger grades for the past 7 years!! But, oh the fun….. (I’m telling myself to stop looking at the new shiny object 😜)
      Logic of English was a lot of fun also!

    • @faithfullyinfertile

      @@OurHOMEschoolPlan hahaha!! My little guys aren’t quite ready for Kinder & I’m running out of options for them. I saw a page by page flip through of TGTB prek the other day and it looked so fun! I do love the way TGTB incorporates fun activities that don’t have me scrounging around for millions of things. One of my sons is especially kinesthetic and doesn’t really have a desire to learn his letters, so I’m hoping this fun approach will help him get excited about letters! And there are built in games! I prefer the style of Masterbooks once they are reading but we are going to give prek a whirl. 😜 LOE is soooo fun. I can’t wait to do it with my boys…but they just aren’t ready yet. So we will probably end up doing every prek curriculum on the market until they are ready for LOE. Haha! I also have CLE Kinder on my list. It’s very gentle and more like prek. I did that with my youngest daughter before she was ready for LOE.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  2 роки тому

      You caught me! After I made the video and started editing, I thought, ugh, I should’ve said how long the lessons take. 😂
      They are comparable. I’d say they both take no more than 20 minutes. Most days, 15 minutes (not including the independent reading or if they do a special activity like the nature walk or the painting.)
      For TGTB….only the first part even needs mom. Practicing the phonics or doing the pic study together. And the second half of the lesson is independent. And I consider the painting an independent activity once I help her set it all up.
      But both of these programs take very little time from Mom and maybe 20 minutes total for child.

    I only bought my kids the course books from Good and Beautiful. We read the readers on the Kindles or computers for free.
    I have a copy of the old Level 1 I bought (full price) for my youngest when I ordered her brothers course book to save on shipping. I'm waiting to see how different things are before deciding if we will use it or wait for the new. For cost reasons I think we should just use it. I'm considering we can probably use their new reader card-books in place of phonics cards while still using the old book.
    I also want to say I agree it is systematic. My son used Level 1 in 2nd grade. I had pulled him out of school 2/3 of the way through first grade and his reading skills were poor. After he finished Level 1 he was a reader. He was reading books at a 3rd grade level and you would never know he had been behind. However, I did find the assessments frustrating in the Level K for my youngest as they assessed her on skills before teaching them. I know the company said this is one thing they addressed with their upcoming versions.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  2 роки тому +1

    My little girl will be going in to 1st. I really went back and forth on waiting for the new 1st grade or sticking to what we have been doing, which is All About Reading. We went with AAR again because I felt another year of strict phonics instruction wouldn't hurt. I also already had First Language Lessons. But I definitely think we will switch to TGATB for 2nd. The all in one is so nice. We got level K half way through the year to just take a break from AAR and do some review. I honestly don't think the current level K was systematic enough or gave enough review to teach reading from the get go...at least it wouldn't have been for us! But my little girl does love her "green book"!

    I plan to try the new LA for K this year. Didn't love the old Verision. But I'd agree that MB isn't as "fun" and I also do not think it's a stand alone phonics. I have needed to add AAR. It just did not work and I tried it with 3 kids🤷‍♀️. But I do love the Biblical Aspect so much. So I use as review throughout summer.

      @@OurHOMEschoolPlan Yes. I teach phonics then give them the Masterbooks 1. Same with grammer I teach the concepts in other ways and then MB is more of a review. I do this because I LOVE MB Biblical aspect. But I've used it from 2nd grade to 5th and my oldest son retained NOTHING😱. There was not enough spiral or even mastery for that matter. I didn't switch because they said "trust the process" sadly that process didn't work for us. I ended up supplementing everything. So now it is the book they do when I have sick days, busy days, or summer vacation. They enjoy it and It's easy to do a few lessons at a time as review. I do keep them on grade level with it though.

      @@HerChildrenCallHerBlessed that makes sense. Yea….unfortunately that’s what I observed when my middle child did Masterbooks 5…..I didn’t see the review or checking of knowledge…..it seemed scattered. My guess is that Masterbooks language arts program is VERY CHARLOTTE MASON and depends on the child learning grammar, writing, vocabulary, etc from reading good literature, which I can see……IF your child reads a lot of literature. It all just depends on the child in the end. But i also saw what you saw.

(She didn’t love the essentials program which is for older kids) but the foundations is excellent! If you look at it, don’t be swayed by the age suggestions for foundations. I think it may suggest foundations for ages 4-7, but I’d say 4-9 or even 10. It’s fun and they’re still building the foundation.
