    Jenny... this documentary is brilliant. For those of us who were not around or not old enough to understand or just not part of the western developed world where most of the research and publicity happened in the 80s / 90s, this is an absolute treasure. Thank you for making this.

    Are we not going to discuss how many of these people were infected by blood transfusions, likely in a hospital, from someone donating their HIV positive blood, and then the blood not beingwas tested before using it?? If the donor aware of their infection, that would be attempted murder too, right? The donation company as well...?

      I like to think in most cases, the people who donated infected blood did so unknowingly, simply through ignorance about the disease. Perhaps they didn't pay much attention to the pre-donation screening questions or, like in the Francis Borchelt case (part 3 of this series), simply skipped portions of the questionnaire. However, since there was money involved for donating (in America), I'm sure there were some criminally irresponsible people who donated blood even though they knew full well that they were HIV infected. Fortunately, after March 1985, the HIV testing would screen out infected blood even if the donor lied on the questionnaire.

      @@katiekuchen9694 Cutting down a grotesquely swollen budget was one of the things Ronald Reagan ran on in his first term. The CDC was one of the many departments that had a lot of their spending cut, but Reagan (and Congress, remember) didn't actively "stifle" any funding from AIDS because no one had hard facts on it. Hell, the HIV virus wasn't even identified until his second term! People love to blame Reagan because he happened to be president when AIDS first hit America and say that "government should have done more." The other world leaders of that time did nothing to advance the cause either. And Reagan's successors talked a good game, but did nothing but appoint impotent committees to make it seem like they were doing something.
      You want to know who pushed and yelled and protested and blocked roads, did sit-ins inside pharmaceutical companies headquarters and ultimately caused enough ruckus that the drug companies listened (before it was "cost effective" enough for them to do so) and created the life saving medications we have today?? Victims! Victims of that horrible disease--in particular the gay male demographic--are the people we can all thank for making AIDS a much less deadly disease because of the drugs we have today. God bless them all.
      Oh, and one last thing; you say President Reagan "cost the lives of millions..." is just hyperbolic horse crap! Thankfully, in the US, we have not had even 1 million people perish from AIDS in 40 years, much less "millions!"

    I can't get over the mindset of the mother whose Suns had hemophilia. So what he didn't know the outcome of HIV and what that meant at that time. Why is he out sleeping with multiple women. This Society is dead believing that this is okay . it's not okay.!!! People don't realize they get sucked up in this belief doing what you want to do because it feels good it's okay and accepted. Sure it feels good, and yes it is accepted but only by those with no morals or lack of love for neighbor. She had 6 boys what is hemophilia and was that not enough. Everyone knows hemophilia is passed on to unborn babies preferably male, although in some cases females. This is nothing to deal with lightly. They already have a disease that is destructive life threatening, and deadly. it's the same as being promiscuous on the street. You can't take somebody's word if they are clean a of sexual transmitted disease. But most of all you shouldn't be out there being part of it. And if you are then it's your fault no one else's. this is immoral and an issue that screams immediate attention. Just like the man who contacted AIDS and went out and slept with people to get them back for what happened to him not knowing who gave it to him they all were victim's. In this video does he look like he's sorry??? No he doesn't, and what does he have to lose he's going to prison probably for the rest of his life, and yet on this side of the bars he has a death sentence to begin with and the treacherous one at that. You see that young woman in the bed dissolving away in between two sheets. That's for real. That wasn't going away until that child was buried. And the reason I say child is that's just what she became. A mother taking care of her adult daughter drawn up in a fetal position wasting away to a infantile state and then death. Was it worth it??? Seems to me the guy thought so. He was going to die anyway so what?!!! You can have all the empathy you want but that's not the answer. We need our morals back and position for responsible adults . examples for our kids and others younger than we are to have a healthy and acceptable future for everyone. Do you think that no matter what happens the pharmaceutical industry we'll have the answer and we can take a pill and all will be fine. Even when the pharmaceutical industry is wrong and pumping our systems full of poisonous pills you cannot seek Justice because you can't sue them by law. then people give millions and millions of dollars for research what is the point??? a vicious circle with no ending. This is 2018 and I tell you the truth. If you go in for surgery HIV can be a problem with blood donors. The virus is so small and HIV they cannot screen it out. And they tell you it. So what are you going to do not have surgery??? Then there's a lady that had surgery and refuse blood and I gave it to her anyway secretively in the operating room and soon after she went home she came down with HIV. Figure it out people!!! It's all about the dollars. and you're just a number. how about vulnerable is anyone lying in a bed given drugs to put them to sleep and they have control.??? It's not going to happen. The strongest man on Earth can be lying on that bed and all of a sudden he has no more Samson qualities. That's reality people.

    If people were so ''irrationally afraid'' of catching AIDS (and some were) doesn't that clash with the idea that society thought that AIDS only happened to ''those people", i.e., drug users, gays, blacks, etc? A few people lashed out at the victims, but most of us were simply worried about how it could affect us. I don't like the statements of some involved featured here because while people were worried, the overall sentiment was one of concern, not hatred. I was 16 in 1984 to give an idea of what I experienced back then.

    Put in perspective of 30,000 to 50,000 deaths per year in the USA alone from traffic accidents and famine and other diseases and all the other mortality around the world this is not severe. Put in perspective of 7 billion people in an overstrained world this is not a catastrophe, unless it is you!

Decades ago, in the late 1980s, my school had Bill Cosby as a guest speaker. If we’d known then what we do now, wouldn’t even think about it!

    Is that hemophiliacs a disease that is located between people who marry their cousins so to speak incest.??? Queen Victoria carried it, some of her sons had it, her granddaughter carried it and gave it to the future Czar of Russia her son, Alexis. Even though blood diseases maybe thought of as different diseases in their own right, could could they not be linked together as a common cause??? It seems to me that when they talk about blood the breakdown of it it's always do to incest or marrying close like brother and sister or first cousins so to speak. I don't know it just seems that there's a connection somewhere

    • @wedrownysowianin9387
      @wedrownysowianin9387 6 років тому +7

      Because it's genetic, both parents carrying the hemophilia gene greatly increases the chances the child will get it, and of course cousins carry many of the same genes. Just because someone has it though doesn't always means they're inbred.

    • @mariekatherine5238

      Brown Sugar Baby. No, it does not mean there’s incest! When any population’s gene pool becomes limited over time, the risk of recessive gene problems increases. Actual incest, as determined legally or even biblically, is not necessary.
