This little boy, Montreal/"Spanky", has clearly been traumatized. And, every time, an adult says to him, he just needs "to slow down" or "you can talk better than that," you are reinforcing his insecurities and not helping. He needs a REAL, well-trained psychologist (not a life coach), psychiatrist, and a speech pathologist. He's not a bad kid. He's traumatized and needs real help. He can overcome it, but not by people telling him to simply "breathe in and out" and acting as if he has more control over his speech, than he actually does.

Why make him read out loud knowing these kids do this to him !?!? You have to intentionally protect him ... this breaks my heart! He is protecting himself emotionally which is just as important as physically
The teacher stupid asf he made him read knowing he will get mocked and didn’t even discipline the people who were mocking him no wonder nobody listens to the teacher when he has no clue how to even control them
I really feel for Spanky. He's not a bad kid at all, he has a good heart. He gets in fights because he's standing up for himself against the bullies. And I can't blame him for doing that. He just needs to learn coping mechanisms and learn to not throw the first punch.
Tyran you can’t be “less black” or “more black” than someone unless you’re referring to pigmentation alone. But seeing as your saying that he’s “less black” when he’s actually kinda dark means you’re referring to him as a person which means your statement can’t even come close to being true.

"The best thing you can do is stay in your seat and ignore him. If you stop talking about it, He will too" I've gotta say this. Bullies DONT stop when you refrain from reacting. I never reacted to the bullying I endured from 4th grade through 9th grade, it just got worse. I wish the higher-ups in school understand this and would stop punishing the people that get bullied for the bullies actions. Punish the damn bullies!
Seriously, I have never had bullying stop because I ignored them. in any other situation, ignoring the problem will not help, so it pisses me off that it’s taught in school. There is a certain way to react to situations, and ignoring the situation is almost never the answer.
@@lowkeyemo6340 couldn’t agree more. Seriously. I hope you’re able to move past the tolls it can take you on. You’re worth so much more than what they told you
100%. Institutions just want to keep the peace aka to avoid conflict. One kid getting bullied in silence is a small price to pay for them, especially if he/she has no one advocating for them
I really hope Spank becomes successful and comes out the hood. It seems like he tries so hard but gets bullied and he eventually can't control it when a cuss word slips
These bullies make my blood boil. The fact the teachers told the kid to just “ignore him” honestly makes it worse because I feel the kid should confront the bully but obviously it should be done in a healthy manner. As someone who gets disrespected because of their disabilities I feel for this kid and I wish his life was better :(
Spanky has a serious speech impediment. He needs to get special attention by a professional, not be left alone while everyone in this video seems to think he's faking it, and make fun of him. Even the teachers / coaches make fun of him by forcing him to read or trying to force him to talk. -.-
you could be right, but you don't see behind the scenes. from my outlook i look at it as them trying to break out of his "shell" of low self esteem and once he slows down his thoughts and speaks with confidence he'll be able to form proper sentences and then obviously speak fluently from there
Um... serious speech impediment?!? Uh, no. Did you listen to what he said?? He said it "just" started a few months ago! Seems pretty clear to me that the poor kid has pretty serious anxiety disorder! I do agree however, that he needs to see a professional to help him control his anxiety & learn how to deal with it! True, the coach may not quite understand his "speaking issue", but he means well and I think he gets "through" to many of those kids! In fact you heard the boy, "coach is a good person". Clearly he means something to this little boy! Also, what a sweet, thoughtful boy, worrying about his mom & sisters being abused, even though his dad is probably hurting him too!
***** Dont be so down on yourself. Thats nonsense to say "the school was too good for you". Adolescent youth can be cruel in general, its not your issue. And the education system has been broken in this country for years now, the schools should be helping these kids situations more than teaching them about things that are in no way relevant to them (i know they do both but) - The curriculum needs to be updated to the 21st century. I dont blame you for hating it, I hated it myself.
The last thing he and his family should be worryiing about is his speech probl.ems. He and all the others who go to schools like this have emotional and mental problems as result from parents. What we really need to do as a nation is to not only help the kids but get the parents involvement. This people live in poverty, how would they be able to afford any speech therapy. They live in a world we could not evenn imagine, life around drugs, poverty, and stereotypes just bringing down these people
GamingTaylor He speaks that way out of anxiety. Many portions of the video he is speaking normally. The mom said he actually is speaking the same way his sister did coming out of a coma when she accidentally was set on fire. They said he's only been doing it about 6 months. You have to watch the next video in order to understand
This is really sad. I feel like the teacher is trying to help but he doesn't know how to deal with these types of situations. His approach isn't working.
You are right and these types of teachers are getting paid nothing to do a pretty hard job when it comes to troubled youth they should be getting paid double if not triple
And the fact that the kid admitted on camera the way his father acts, he should've been removed from that home!!! Social workers and counselors do NOTHING!
Kids with these extreme behavioural issues are so angry due to trauma....they’re one second from boiling over 24/7. An emotion we might experience once in a lifetime or never. They don’t want to be removed from home, into an unknown which might be worse. It’s the responsibility of all us as a community to uplift it’s youngest members.
I couldn’t even finish this episode. The way that kid is speaking shows he has been through unspeakable trauma at such a young age. That was so painful to see …
Spanky is clearly suffering from SEVERE PTSD. Why they're keeping him in this school, no kid that age should be put under that stress. Our educational system is failing this kid and it breaks my heart.
I wish these kids had access to trained psychiatrist. The teachers are great, sure, but these schools need full time mental health professionals on staff that can talk to the kids and really dig into what their issues. Unfortunately, no psych would want to take the low pay that they would undoubtedly be stuck with.
I think for most of these kids, even the best psychiatrists in the world couldn't save them. People have to WANT to change and for most of these kids it looks like they don't give one shit about doing so. They might say they do, but the moment you turn your back or let them out of your sight, they'll immediately go back to being who they really are.
What burns me up, is that even if some people are told, " You do not have the necessary skills to raise a child. If you have children, they will grow up with emotional problems, and will never be able to form any meaningful relationships." Would that stop anyone as selfish as most people are? Even knowing their child will walk through life alone? A social outcast? So, how can a psychiatrist fix that? How do you fix something, that was broken before it was even made?
Why is Spanky still in this school? He should be put in a normal school with civilized people. He doesn't fight unless someone provokes him and that wouldn't happen in a regular school. I really believe he has the potential to become something big in the future if he were put in a normal school.
im the same way lol i go to an alternative school the same time as this one but its in hillside Illinois im urban i know whats going on around me and i dont do anything like the kids here im quiet aF just thinking to myself about how horrible these kids are and i dont get out of that school until sr year which is the end of this year and ill be good
He also needs a new place to live, a new school to attend, and to have his father kept away from him. I'd adopt that kid in a heartbeat and do anything I could to help him. It breaks my heart to see a kid as young as he is already suffering from severe anxiety and PTSD. He seems like he has a good heart, but has obviously been traumatized and treated badly enough for a large enough portion of his life that his PTSD is manifesting itself in the form of literally leaving him speechless. He says in this video that his speech problem only started about 6 months ago (as of the time this was filmed), and I'd be willing to place a bet that that 6 month time frame coincides with when his convicted murderer father, who he is obviously terrified of, got out of prison. He probably talked back to his dad, got severely beaten, and now is literally so afraid to speak that he physiologically can't do it because something in his brain is telling him "talking back is what caused me to get hurt just don't ever talk". It's really sad. I'd bet if he were removed from his horribly unfortunate situation, shown proper care and attention, and had certified, trained professionals to help him learn methods to help cope with his traumatic childhood he could become a completely new person in a way. I'm largely just speculating here, but I've studied child psychology long enough to get a pretty good idea of what's happened during his childhood.
"I'm scared cause he might murder me." Those words shook me and touched into memories from my own childhood, knowing that a child fears and feels that way about there father. No kid should ever go through that. I hope he grows up to his full potential.
That teacher is doing his best. You gotta understand that this teacher is special. He is patient and level-headed. Trust he speaks to the bullied child alone. Just can't stage some sort of intervention mid-class. Would do more harm than good. I been that bullied kid so I know.
@@abrahamben-dayan9843 they could’ve just easily removed him from the classroom, the teacher literally did nothing to help him besides telling him to “sit down” and “ignore him” which doesn’t help at all.
@@isit2012yet Bro, with all due respect, consider the context. This isnt a normal school. These are special education kids with emotional regulation disorders. You have no idea what a godsend a patient man like that is. Consider what happens if the teacher starts to get into a trench war with the bully. The bully just waits until class is out, and then continues harassing the kid on the bus, and online. There’s not much recourse a teacher has in that situation. The best you can do unfortunately is give good advice to the victim and speak in private. And dont act like he didn’t call the bully out. He did. And you are judging the teacher based off of a 10 second clip, you arent actually down there putting in the work to help out these kids like this man is. i’m sure he speaks with the bullies in private and tries to change their behavior when cameras are off. He doesn’t teach there for the money, I can assure you that. People that work there are a special, amazing breed of people. Again… not much recourse. Not like he can threaten to expel or suspend the kids, the kids don’t care, and they would prefer that over school. I’ve explained this to you in the clearest way that I can. I’ll reiterate: This. teacher. Did. The. Best. Possible. Thing. He. Could. Do. I had a teacher that publicly defended me against bullying. Trust me it didn’t help, it just made it worse for me. It put a division between me and the rest of the class even more. although it felt good in the moment, and the teacher had my best interest at heart, it just doesn’t work that way! Kids can be cruel and heartless sometimes. A good teacher knows how to field situations. Cant always just do what feels good/right in the moment. ESPECIALLY in a school built for the express purpose of helping problem children. Doing what he does helps in the long term slowly but surely, trust me…
I feel like the teacher was trying to get spanky to deal with it and to ignore the student making fun of him to prepare spanky for the real world. It's not the best choice made by the teacher but I think I could see why he did it. Yes the teacher should have approached the situation in a different way.
They should have open book so people can learn how to read and pronouce words correctly. If you cant do it in class, where can you do it? I mean in this specific case, i dont thing he should be askiing him to read.... he didnt raise his hand or nothing. If hes talking like that because hes nervous, it seems like it is because he is nervous.... then i dont think the teacher should be calling on him. Now, the teacher could have been trying to get him to be more confident even with the laughy-ness so he could stop be nervous and talk normally. But i dont think this was an appropriate time to do so,

Gang Shitz No lol, we’re not meant to bully kids for things they can’t control. That’s not the same thing as calling someone out for saying something with no evidence.
Pick your battles, he's not there to argue with them, the kids who want to learn will listen to him read and not the other kid disrupting. He's gonna ask and he's gonna ask every day and one day that kid is gonna read
I've never genuinely cried watching movies or stuff online, but 5:13 broke me. I can't imagine the pain he goes through every day. the pain that makes him unable to speak. I hope he's ok now. I'm not religious but I'm praying for you spanky
That teacher wasn't right to not let spanky have a minute when that kid was making fun of him. If his coping skill was to take a minute then he should've had that. His speech problem seems to stem from extreme anxiety /trauma. So heartbreaking, I truly wish the best for all of these children.
You mean he didn't get him to stop. I know the kid's name was Joseph because the teacher kept asking him to stop and read correctly. The coach told you years ago when he first started a kid hit him with a chair...in this type of school, teasing another student with no violence isn't the big issue of the day.
At first I had the same reaction but then I realized that they are trying to give him as much real world experience as possible. They want to speed up his recovery. So they have him talk in front of others and to the teachers.
It's nice to see the people at the school actually try to help even if they're unsuccessful. When I was in elementary/middle/high they didn't give a fuck
Those teachers probably need Valium to relax their nerves when they get home. I mentor young teenagers, my stress levels be high. It's not easy trying to convince a kid who's been told repeatedly they that aren't shit to believe in themselves. To fight for greatness because they are capable of doing wonderful things in life.
It seems like spanky condition gets kind of worse when people questions him or try to get in his business about his home life (like a nervous type of thing ).. I feel like the counselor should at least attempt to try and build a relationship with him first to the point where he feels comfortable enough to speak.. instead of her going straight in asking him questions because ALOT of kids are taught by their parents what goes on in my house stays in my house .. soo for the counselor to be so aggressive asking him questions because he a child he is expected to answer whatever she says out of respect of her being a adult I wouldn’t tell her nothing honestly .. I believe he lost his voice because he experienced something so tragic to the point where he blame himself over the situation even though it was a accident and it scared him sooo bad to the point where he kind of went mute( or in shock ) ...it’s just sad he has too deal with this situation at such a young age .. I wonder how he is doing now ... can you all do updates on the children ????
Pre7ch yeah u prolly already watched it but the next episode is about how he accidently set his own house on fire and he burned his sisters. Its sad becuase he really didnt mean it. If u destroyed your home, and your burned your sisters, that guilt would lay so heavy on your chest it would be hard to speak. I can speak from expierence i went through something traumatic and i wasnt talking right after. Like my air wasnt leaving my vocals right.
Watching Spanky describe how the coach is a good person made me cry. I used to have a teacher like that, who would talk to me one on one on the regular, because he knew life at home as really hard for me. These teachers deserve to be paid more.
+kaylebs world tv and if you do something while getting bullied you get in trouble, not the bully. When i used to get made fun of in my middle school, whenever i said something back i usually got into more trouble, fucking stupid
Your acting like these kids should be taught and trained the same was as everyone else. Its not the case here, these kids need to be treated and handled very differently. And almost always each child is disciplined or taught differently than the rest as they have failed at learning the "normal" way.
I hope He’s doing better and got some help. Because no kid should have to go through this alone especially when the teachers/adults ain’t much of a help.
perfect example of how schools don’t give a shit. i was bullied mentally, verbally, and even physically, and the school system didn’t care. at the beginning of every year they’d give us a speach about if we are being bullied we tell them so we feel safe again. but when i told them i was told to “ignore it”. i became very suicidal and i was out into the mental hospital, after that i only did half days but one day i wanted to go to field day, so i asked if i could stay the whole day. i was told “if you can’t handle learning you don’t deserve the fun part”. but i was learning, i just did it in a shorter amount of time, because the school didn’t do anything about me being bullied. when i would go to he counselor she would just send me home when i was depressed, not giving me any actual tips to deal with it, they were very uneducated. when i went to the social worker she showed me a crappy animation about depression being a dog and i just had to “get over it”. i bet if you ask anyone there about my situation they will deny it because that’s what that school always did; denied.
I got in trouble at my elementary school when I was at elementary and it was because I reported a kid bullying me and the teacher said that I was lying and they said I was lying so yeet let’s start a club
My school was the same. The people at mine did nothing for my situation. My sophomore year I was jumped and robbed then threatened to keep quiet and if I told anyone I would be killed. I told the school about it and they said they were going to question the three that did it (I told them very reluctantly). Nothing ever came of it. I asked my counselor and I was pretty much told that because I was white (I went to a predominantly African American high school) and I had no evidence, they didn’t believe me (despite my the bruises on my body and my fucking black eye).
Spanky is the most mature and good natured kid in this whole school I hope his life conditions improve like he was the first kid to walk away from a bully
I pray that this kid can become successful and overcome this speech impediment. I'm really pulling for him and its so sad to see the situation he is in and the fact that he can't do much about it. It just makes me sad
This is heartbreaking. What we are seeing right before us is a child having a severe reaction to the mental and physical abuse he survives everyday. It’s literally destroying his ability to express himself through his voice. This happens when you have to literally hold in your emotions. Imagine feeling like crying in a public place after being embarrassed. When someone ask you if you’re okay and you burst into that emotional release and you feel better. This child has had to learn himself to burry all feelings to the point that it’s PHYSICALLY effecting his brain. This is so sad.
That coach has got to be the kindest man i have ever seen. Perfect mix of stern and solid with kindness and compassion mixed in for him to be a role model.
Omg @ 3:00 it really pissed me off when the teacher stopped that boy from leaving out like dag, he just needed to cool off. Like why would you keep him next to that energy.
It’s how you deal with it if you leave that classroom they probably are going to think you did something and send you somewhere else. He is trying to teach him that sometimes you need to tune them out because in the real world what’s gonna happen? The same thing you lash out you back to square one you hold that shit in you gone pop, now if you find something (aka basketball with the coach) that’s gone be your safe haven and you’re going to realize yeah they bullying me now but when I get older and better their isn’t anything they can do to me that’s already been done you haven’t see the worst part of my life you just seeing the best that I let you see.
@@Kekenotone1 In the real world you always have the option to walk away, no one is going to force you to stand there and be disrespected like that teacher did to spanky. Eventually he can learn to tune it out but he hasn't reached that level of maturity yet.The school needs to encourage those kids to walk away when they feel that their anger is going to get out of control. Not lock them in the classroom where they will continue to disrupt class.

it is really sad to see. I live on the south side of Chicago. sometimes for basketball I go to west side and it really is sad. kids really are struggling. sad to see spanky say he doesn't want to fight his dad because he's scared his own father might murder him.
That was rough to listen to. He fears his own father -- he admitted his father beats his sisters and mother. What an awful home environment!
*****
Dont be so down on yourself.

I wish these kids had access to trained psychiatrist. i completely agree. This is so saddening.
You're the only person talking real sense on here
***** I second that and that's the sad a lot of people don't care that's why these children end up like this
I think for most of these kids, even the best psychiatrists in the world couldn't save them.
If you have children, they will grow up with emotional problems, and will never be able to form any meaningful relationships."
Would that stop anyone as selfish as most people are? Even knowing their child will walk through life alone? A social outcast? So, how can a psychiatrist fix that? How do you fix something, that was broken before it was even made?
This gym teacher is out here doing gods work man...much respects and he needs an award frfr...it’s sad the people like him gets looked over
Why is Spanky still in this school? He should be put in a normal school with civilized people. He doesn't fight unless someone provokes him and that wouldn't happen in a regular school. I really believe he has the potential to become something big in the future if he were put in a normal school.

Lexi Squid true
Definitely! :( ☁️🫂

And almost always each child is disciplined or taught differently than the rest as they have failed at learning the "normal" way.
I hope He’s doing better and got some help. Because no kid should have to go through this alone especially when the teachers/adults ain’t much of a help.
As heartbreaking Spanky's story is, I love his bond with Coach Williams. Shows that there can be light in even the darkest of places
I hope the bully gets taught a lesson he'd never forget.
Common you got to teach him
@@meme_lad2661 Oh, I will...
@@e3thur bro I was good idea don't need a lesson
Update: The kid that was bullying him was shot and killed.

perfect example of how schools don’t give a shit. i was bullied mentally, verbally, and even physically, and the school system didn’t care. at the beginning of every year they’d give us a speach about if we are being bullied we tell them so we feel safe again. but when i told them i was told to “ignore it”. i became very suicidal and i was out into the mental hospital, after that i only did half days but one day i wanted to go to field day, so i asked if i could stay the whole day. i was told “if you can’t handle learning you don’t deserve the fun part”. but i was learning, i just did it in a shorter amount of time, because the school didn’t do anything about me being bullied. when i would go to he counselor she would just send me home when i was depressed, not giving me any actual tips to deal with it, they were very uneducated. when i went to the social worker she showed me a crappy animation about depression being a dog and i just had to “get over it”. i bet if you ask anyone there about my situation they will deny it because that’s what that school always did; denied.
I got in trouble at my elementary school when I was at elementary and it was because I reported a kid bullying me and the teacher said that I was lying and they said I was lying so yeet let’s start a club
God bless youu , don’t let anyone think they have dominion over youu . ‼️
My school was the same. The people at mine did nothing for my situation. My sophomore year I was jumped and robbed then threatened to keep quiet and if I told anyone I would be killed. I told the school about it and they said they were going to question the three that did it (I told them very reluctantly). Nothing ever came of it. I asked my counselor and I was pretty much told that because I was white (I went to a predominantly African American high school) and I had no evidence, they didn’t believe me (despite my the bruises on my body and my fucking black eye).
ash tray I'm sorry to here that
Awe Spanky's so adorable- it makes me so mad to see people bully him.
Seeing him smile warms my heart. I hope things are better now.
He’s in jail now
@@buckledknees1923how do you know
Spanky is the most mature and good natured kid in this whole school I hope his life conditions improve like he was the first kid to walk away from a bully
I pray that this kid can become successful and overcome this speech impediment. I'm really pulling for him and its so sad to see the situation he is in and the fact that he can't do much about it. It just makes me sad
Teacher with glasses has the patience of a monk lol
He's a rat for not sticking up for spanky
Mr Johnson is a good teacher
He's a fucking piece of trash who can't teach for shit,
Kgnightcry the classmates are ignorant little shits who think they’re hard
He is trying to keep both of the kids from getting into trouble
Like deadass, that piss me off too
It’s how you deal with it if you leave that classroom they probably are going to think you did something and send you somewhere else.
Should've thrown out the shithead who was reading instead.
He should have told the student to stop immediately and checked him for doing what he was doing
I really cried with this , he is going through so much pain and discomfort i just hope everything goes well for him
My heart breaks for Montreal. He really deserve better.
Why is Spanky punished for retaliating in a non-violent way?
Sorry. I meant 'was'. It was late at night and I had a lot of HFCS that night. Again, I'm sorry. I think I'm a dumbass, too. It's not just you.
In addition, I cannot edit/correct my comment because my computer is not working properly.
TheConfuzzledCat for retaliating
word of advice:
Never fight a man that has nothing to lose
Yeah but they fight harder
@Johan F. Uh It's actually the opposite, for example an inmates that got sentenced with a death sentence usually they went berserk when they are back in their cell and start wreaking havoc because in their mind they got nothing to lose because after this they'll die anyway
spanky seems like such a nice guy, it's so sad seeing him going through such unimaginable pain every single day
I couldn't help myself...when he said he doesn't fight back against his dad because he's afraid his dad might murder him, I broke down in tears. He deserves so much better. I can't believe how gentle his soul is despite his home life.
Awww man Feel bad for Spanky I wish I can Adopt him
Gilot Jerry Worrd
Get ahold of the school and they will call CPS and c if its possible.

I'm from the South Side of Chicago - South Chicago - and this struggle is real, but nothing new. And because of the proximity to Indiana - very relaxed gun laws - the guns are a'plenty here. As a survivor of child abuse and domestic violence, I too suffer from a crippling voice condition that makes it hard for me to speak - not always, but I can begin to cough and choke until I can't breathe. Thank you so much for doing this piece, it's as pertinent today as it was when produced back in 2014. Please keep putting out these quiet timebomb of stories and illuminating the intersections of violence, poverty, domestic violence, and systems failure.
it is really sad to see. I live on the south side of Chicago. sometimes for basketball I go to west side and it really is sad. kids really are struggling. sad to see spanky say he doesn't want to fight his dad because he's scared his own father might murder him.
Yup
That was rough to listen to. He fears his own father -- he admitted his father beats his sisters and mother. What an awful home environment!
I'm not sure what the solution is, but I hope Spanky progresses in life and this video acts as a reference point for his past "shitty years" instead of just another day.
+Zeeshan Muhammad spanky is falling into the gang life. on his Facebook page he is shown throwing up gang signs and has a friend list full of kids in gangs throwing up signs. I can tell he us going to be a big guy but he may not live to see 40.

Coach Williams like Spanky’s father figure
They always say ignore a bully. You can not ignore a bully. Parents need to discipline their kids and teachers need to step up to.
Sean Starr or teach their kids to stand up for themselves
_OH MY GOD THANK YOU_
"Just ignore him"
Right, because that works when you're being bullied.
