    I have the Howa heavy barrel in 243W. I was very unimpressed with the groupings. After inspection the action was moving in the plastic stock. To stop the stock flexing I filled the fore stock under the barrel with epoxy and the hollow butt section but still having the barrel floated. Then I bedded the recoil lug and tang with bedding compound now it shoots better than I can. Just a cheap way of solving the problem with the plastic Hogue stock flexing.
    Cheers mate from Oz

      Yes! I threaded the barrel on a 270 for my wife and installed a custom brake. with 130 grain hornady she eats. Nice and lite rifles and definitely accurate. Only issue she has is while carrying it shouldered the bolt will open occasionally. A rubber band has helped.

    I bore sight by removing the bolt, looking down the barrel, centering a target at 50 yards in the bore and adjusting the scope to the bullseye. That gets me usually within 3 or 4 inches, on the paper at the worst.
    When I was about 12 years old my father bought me a Winchester M70, heavy barrel, amazing trigger, bedded action, FF barrel in .243 to shoot woodchucks in the alfalfa fields along the river. I shot that rifle for 15 years, starting with Federal Premium 243V that was loaded with a 60gr Sierra HP. It shot quarter sized groups at 100 yards, but I couldnt afford the amount I was shooting so i started handloading using the same 60gr Sierra HPs. Those huge fields taught me a lot about shooting at distance.
    Unfortunately, all that shooting with those light, fast bullets finally burnt the barrel out. I ended up trading it to a gunsmith who was going to rebarrel it.

    Glad to see the 243 getting some love. The 243 is a great cartridge for new shooters that seems to be forgotten. I would think with some more rounds this rifle would get some better groups. It seems like the stainless barrels take a little more break in. Another great video.

    • @davidlaney8254
      @davidlaney8254 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Draecon If you dig deep enough into the Weatherby website, you will find their explanation of why Weatherby/Howa use a pressure post design for Vanguard barrels. The design is nothing new and is used to dampen the vibrations that might otherwise reduce accuracy. Still, it’s not uncommon for those who are unfamiliar with the design and who believe free floated barrels always shoot better, to remove the pressure post, which voids the rifle’s accuracy guarantee. But what can you say about people who think they know more about a rifle barrel than those who designed and tested it.

    Hi there, is there any chance of you doing some reviews on any of the new Sako 90s especially in 222R or 223R or 22/250. My favorites are the Bavarian models but whatever you could get hold of would be nice. Cheers.

    Buy yourself a small camping air pump with a internal rechargeable battery ,fit a tube on it then shove that tube down into the breech after the first set of shots and turn on the pump to pump cold air down the barrel to cool it cos those hunting barrels ain’t made for multiple shots as you know ! Used to cool mine down with a damp towel but the cold air is a lot easier!❤️

    Can you put the links for the optics and other equipment that you use in the video info so that we can find the links easier. Your videos are always great, and I very much enjoy watching all of them. I wish that more of the Bing bang tubers would be as eager to help the common people like you do. So many of them are too interested in Flash or showing nothing but the most expensive guns and putting on a show. I understand people do utube videos to make money but some are more interested in putting g on a show instead of trying to educate us and give us worthwhile information. This is why your channel, at least in my opinion, is second to none. Thank you for all that you do, and keep up the great work.

    I know it is a pain, you should really follow break in procedures, it actually does help accuracy and your gun barrel will last longer.

    When doing your initial sighting in, what's the distance between the dots on the paper plate. I've seen you use this method of sighting in but I don't recall how you detirmine the spacing.

    Question.. when you measure groups do you measure (outside hole to outside) or measure bullet diameter and then measure center of hole to center?

    • @WHOTEEWHO
      @WHOTEEWHO  11 місяців тому +2

      Either center to center of far side of one hole to closest side of other

    For a new hunter out west what would recommend? 300win ,6.5creed, or 270win? I’ve been shooting but only still comfortable at 200 yards. Trying to get more practice for this upcoming season.
