Yes, prednisone works like a dream, but bad side effects...damages joints, disrupts immune system, weight gain, emotional upheaval, etc. Best treatment is prevention. Learn to identify and AVOID!
The tecnu extreme gel worked awesome for me I came into contact with poison oak (not aware for several hours) got the itchy and redness and started to use the gel and it’s almost gone after 1-2 days of using and will buy a few more for storage cause this stuff really kicked the poison oak in the butt and made this not so unbearable thanks for the suggestion.
These methods are Stone Age! Go to light speed. Brake Parts Cleaner spray cans available at any auto parts. A liberal spraying will dissolve and wash away the oils causing the discomfort. Thank you!!! I'm am seriously allergic to poison everything!! I have a cream that my Doctor formulated and has mixed at a compounding pharmacy. I apply it every time I go hiking or camping, and it works well. They have told me for 30 years to stay out of the woods, but that's like telling me not to breathe. We are coming back to Oregon in September for a few weeks to hike some more. The product Zanfel is amazing, but it's like 40 bucks. Caladryl is good for itching. I absolutely love your channel, and appreciate what you do. You should come and visit Kentucky. I live on Kentucky lake across from Land Between The Lakes, and cant imagine being anywhere else. Much loves!!!
First time in 77 years!! Just gardening. Got it on my arm and my face. Didn't know what it was cuz I'd been around it all my life and never got "bit". Washed with Dawn to get the oil off, but apparently not fast enough. Used the technu first and then CalaGel (clear)to keep itching at a sane level. Antihistamines also. (Wall Act generic actifed.) Urushiol spreads with sweat too.
I swear by the Tecnu cleanser. I have found the sooner you wash after exposure, the better. I always follow the instructions on the packaging and have had great results on multiple occasions when I know that I have come into contact with poison ivy.
Ive had someone for a couple of weeks and it seems to be growing! I've kept it convered with clay, and it hardly bothers me as long as it's covered. Maybe i put a contaminated shirt back on 😬
Back when I was a kid we were in the woods all day long. There wasn't a single summer that I wasn't covered in poison oak. Parts of me were usually pink from all of the calamine lotion. Lol. Good information.
Last year I had a terrible reaction to one or all 3 of these plants on the first night of a 3 day backpacking trip. I didn't have anything to treat it and it was awful especially at night. I will definitely be getting some of those wipes for sure.
Ive used Technu multiple times and rarely phased it. Prevention, Xanfel, or Dawn dish soap are the only things that ever helped, and Ive tried EVERYTHING.

Super helpful information never thought about the dog thing! I have gotten lucky I guess I have not got this in years but I always use Technu products when I have gotten it and it has helped immensely🤙🏻
Great video! Gonna purchase tomorrow. I been using calamine lotion. Got cortisone today and I been taking a towel and going over it with the iron because the heat feels so good to it
I was restocking firewood on a camping trip, wearing gloves. A few days later my arms now have the rash. I started using Ivarest, keeps the itching down. Now I have washed everything including my bed sheets, next is my sleeping bag. Washing up is a must on any outdoor activities. The sooner the better. The firewood must have had vines on them. Stay safe, stay informed!
You just need friction and some dish soap. No special chemicals needed, in fact. It's chemically an oil and only starts to cause a rash if left on the skin, hence why scrubbing it off with a rag and dawn will help if not completely take it away. Also make sure to throw away the rag, obviously.
Thanks so much, in all my years of hunting, I've never touched any of them, I feel very lucky. Thanks for sharing, I definitely learned something new.. Hope you're well, stay badass 🤷😜
I have whole body rash from poison ivy . I was so stupid ,I didn’t think of cover clothes while I working in backyard cleaned weeds and vine around big tree . I take care of myself use rubbing alcohol and calamine and Sarna lotion for poison ivy . I am patience 2-3 weeks clear up . I have been 3 Nd times . Thanks for informative .
Hike Oregon, Thank you for the tips and sharing the products in this informative video. We have plenty of these unfortunately in NC...and I made contact.☺
Anthony Martinez it could have gotten to your stomach from contact while sleeping- scratched your face, then touched your stomach ...it just happened to me! It’s easily spread
This is why it is important to use the Tecnu wash. After you wash the oils off your skin it cannot continue to spread. Also make sure to wash all of your clothes and tools after handling poison oak/ivy/sumac.
Today is Monday, and on Saturday I was working at someone’s house for extra money, and he told me it was poison ivy but that it was dead, and I noticed the rash and the itch after I took a shower in dawn, and I had to clear his trees and some stuff, I’m 17 and never had it before, i have a rash on my right forearm, and my left wrist. Then I have it I believe on the back of my right ear. Idk if I have it or not tho :( and I’m scared
@@HikeOregon I told my parents and they stopped by cvs and got a few things they said I’m not sure what though. And I’m not educated enough to know what so I was watching UA-cam vids
This company is an Oregon company. It's a great product. Be sure to use it as soon as possible after coming in contact with poison oak,ivy or sumac. I've had p.oak so bad I've had to go to the doctor for a RX for it. He told me that there are about 9 different varieties, if you will, of poison oak so you may not break out if you come in contact with one but you may eventually be in an area where you come in contact with some that will make you break out horribly.
I’m so allergic to poison ivy and at the moment I was standing on the porch of my backyard and just with the wind I got poison ivy and right now I’ve tried everything I know and nothing is working can you please give me Advice
Wow I would have to do some research and get back to you on that! I've never heard of someone being so sensitive to the point of wind giving you a reaction. Did you try the tips in my video?
Hike Oregon I’m going to do it now and see if that helps poison ivy really knocks me down and I always End up in the hospital for three months for poison ivy I am real sensitive from it and real bad allergic to it and thank you for responding to me I really need help because once I get it it’s hard for me to get rid of it
The best way to get rid of the rash. Pour white vinegar on a towel or cotton ball and also pour a little vinegar on the rash and then scrub the rash for a minute with the soaked towel or cotton ball. The rash will be gone in a few hours. This will also get rid of the itch. Reapply again the next day if needed
I was cutting up a pile of logs when I was exposed to poison ivy. Is it ok to burn the logs I cut up, not sure which ones were exposed to the ivy? Is there something I can use to clean the logs?
The goal is to come in as soon as you can into the shower, at least I would do a shower. Use a washcloth and thoroughly scrub yourself with the liquid. I would also get the skin a little wet with lukewarm water. Then once you got yourself scrubbed thoroughly you would put on a little bit of cold water, make it colder than hotter, so that it will work and not open up the pores. Then what you do is you rinse it all off and you make sure it's all off. Then dry yourself. At that point you got to go wash everything in the washing machine including the washcloth. Then you're good to go.
I have a bad case of poison ivy all over my face. I’ve used the same brand scrub on my face and it’s very dry. My skin is flaking off a little, is that a good thing?
Well I'm 50/50 between buying tecnu extreme which is a lower costing gel of the same thing that is for washing off the oil or just Palmolive dishwashing detergent especifically for poison ivy. The goal is whatever you use to get it all around you and rinse it off quickly to get the oil off. That's why you need a good washcloth.
Currently I have poison ivy rashes now with awful blisters. I just bought tecnu scrub but I've been using tecnu relief rash spray. Question: can I use the tecnu relief spray after using tecnu scrub? I'm getting crazy of these poison ivy rashes! Thanks!
I'm sorry to hear about the poison Ivy :( I can't be certain about using the two together and I would really consult the bottles for certainty. I'm sorry if that's not super helpful.
I've gotten it all over my legs and arms in the past 2 weeks I haven't use tecnu but I'm pretty sure it's okay to use both as long as you give them time to penetrate in-between especially after using the soap, I was a pharmacy technician for 14 years I did get paid a methasone cream prescribed 5% which has helped a lot but you know what a good shower with a good cleaning and some calamine lotion has been doing wonders

The wash only helps after exposure before you get the rash. At this point there’s nothing you can do to make it go away except help with the itchy symptoms by using the gel. If you live somewhere where it is prevalent then I recommend getting some of the wash so you can use it next time right after exposure.

I was thinking Palmolive instead of Dawn as an alternative method. Maybe I should go with Dawn. Not sure.
Does anyone know why Poison Oak makes some of us tired? I've been sleeping a lot more than normal since I got it a couple weeks ago.
What?
I think it's your body fighting with it. Any time there's an infection, we get tired because energy is not available, it's being used for the healing.
