    Excellent video. I found the close up of the size difference and the explanation of the weight difference useful. I will go with the Hubba Hubba

    Great video, nice to see the pack sizes together for comparison along with the pitched tents too, thank you 🙏

    Thanks Davide! I have the Hubba 1P and I totally agree with what you said in the end that there are more times you wish you had a bigger tent than a smaller one. Getting stuck in the Hubba 1P sucks, 2P I think is definitely my vote for the tiny increase in size and weight (my use is also for bikepacking)

    Thank you so much ! I was thinking back and forth between the two and but will go for the Hubba Hubba with confidence now. Main reason to go for the smaller one was so I could hide better when camping where its not nessecary allowed here around europe.

      Welcome! Yes if they see you with the Hubba Hubba they will see you with the Hubba as well, there isnt a huge difference. The main thing is to choose the place carefully and avoid lighting fires or turning on lights.

    Your video makes it easy to see the differences in Hubba hubba and Hubba. This tent has been near/at the top of my list to upgrade to because of utility and how tough it is . I have a Ray Jardin Tarp and Net-Tent I sewed myself which is very light, large and tough. It's drawbacks are it is not freestanding and it is difficult to pitch it for height - it stays low to the ground and can be hard to even sit up in it without your head hitting the roof if not pitched perfectly. But, it is large enough I can even drag my bike under the tarp in rain along with gear and everything. The Hubba Hubba is really desirable for the freestanding capability. Thanks!

      @DavideTravelli  4 роки тому

      Ciao Michael - Hope you guys are well and safe! Definitely a fully freestanding tent is more versatile and especially on longer trip it's really needed.

    Brilliant review.
    I have the MSR Elixir 3. I bought it for me and my 2 kids, but for a long bike trip i think i might still travel with it. It would be nice to have a relaxing space in multiple days of rain.
    The disadvantages of the MSR3 would be its 3kg weight, and maybe the larger footprint might make it hard to pitch in some places. Elixir 2 or Elixir 1 and a tarp could be good too.
    I looked at the hubba bubba, but decided with the stronger pole layout of the Elixir.
    Loving your video's.

      I 3 person tent if you travel alone is a big of a kill, mainly if you wild camp sometimes you dont have that much real estate available. Safe rides!

    Amazing video. Thank you so much from saving me from spending money on the smaller version. My partner dropped out of the expedition and I was worried that the bigger tent would be too much extra to carry. Is there any temperature difference in winter?

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  4 роки тому +5

      Ciao Pavol, welcome to the channel! If you already have a 2p tent I’d suggest to stick with it. The tents are not made for temperature insulation but for weather protection (no tent out there has a temperature rating). In winter, but in the other seasons too, the most important factor to sleep warm is to insulate your body from the cold ground and you achieve that with a sleeping pad with a high enough R value (check my video on sleeping pads here ua-cam.com/video/Rxkro4cWV4g/v-deo.html ) and the an adequate sleeping bag or quilt. The sleeping pad is the key to be warm, the tent only have to protect you from the rain/snow/bugs.

    hi, thanks for the video, but I have a few questions the hubba 1p, does it only have 1 entrance in the inner and outfly? Also, i live in a rainy country Scotland, so is it possible to pitch outer rain fly first so the inner fly doesn't get wet?

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  3 роки тому +1

      Hiya, welcome! Here's the review of the Hubba so you can have better visual: ua-cam.com/video/nIQhFHlbgsQ/v-deo.html - Of course it has only one entrance and one vestibule. It is possible to pitch the inner first investing the poles into the flysheet (it's here ua-cam.com/video/nIQhFHlbgsQ/v-deo.html?t=927 )

      @@DavideTravelli ah too bad, argh can't decide if I want 1 or 2. But it will be used mainly for myself but I do hikes to top of hills and camp, having to decide if the extra weight is worth it 🤔. My current tent is Vango banshee 200 and that weights 2.4kg 😂

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  3 роки тому +2

      2.4Kg on you back seems a lot. If you were travelling by bike I'd say go for the 2p but if you have to carry it on your back perhaps saving a bit of weight is wiser. The other option if you have the budget they have a similar tent that is much lighter (I wouldnt expect to last as long though) the Carbon Reflex, the disadvantage of this tent is that isnt 100% free-standing but camp on top of hills it shoulnd be a problem. Again if you were travelling by bike I would strongly advise against a non freestanding tent but for hiking it's probably not a major problem. The FreeLite is something in between the Hubba and the Carbon Reflex (split poles at the head and centre pole at the tail).

      @@DavideTravelli yeh it was also first time wild camping, I really enjoyed it, but I made the mistake of packing too heavy and buying some cheap gear that made it heavy. The biggest weight saving is probably getting a lighter tent. Thanks I'll have a look at those 👍

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  4 роки тому +3

      You’re welcome and welcome to the channel! The majority of bike travellers usually go for a 2 person tent because on a long journey more often than not you enjoy the extra real estate. However if you value a lot the weight and packing size you should go for a one person tent. A one person tent compared with the same tent in the 2person version saves about 20/25% in terms of weight and size so it’s not that much really. Safe rides!

    Ciao Davide,
    a great review as usual!
    Just a couple of questions:
    1. Are the weights including the footprint?
    2. Does MSR include the footprint with the tend?
    3. What's the approx. weight for a DIY Tyvek footprint?
    Grazie

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  3 роки тому

      Yo Paolo!
      1. Nope footprint is always optional for all tents.
      2. It’s usually optional, sometimes is sold as a bundle by certain vendors.
      4. Depending on the type of Tyvek. I them there is Tyvek from 24gr/sqm to 120.
      I think if you want to save weight Tyvek soft is lighter than MSR groundsheet but the Tyvek Pro that I use weights much more, it offers much more protection and insulation tho, I can use it without the tent if I need it as well.

      @@DavideTravelli dang! i wonder why it's only available in europe.

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  3 роки тому

      I reached out to MSR when I reviewed the Hubba Hubba with the same questions and they said that it's because some EU countries have strict regulations about wildcamping. Originally they had a green option for the american market too but it was not popular, people were buying the more colourful options and so they discontinued it.
