I have used my Elixir 2 a few times over the winter and its a lovely tent. Nice place to be. It can also be pitched outer first using the ground sheet to support the poles, fly over that, crawl in and pitch the inner. Tried the outer pitch first my self in horrible cold rain and worked fine, bit of a faff but kept the inner dry.
Excited to see a review of the tent we bought from Trekitt and took on the Tour Mont Blanc! A great compromise between weight and cost. Loved the double entrance. Used one for kit and one for access. Great headroom for internal living on the one night it chucked it down with rain. (Still not sure how my 14 yr old and I managed to play i spy for an hour!) Seemed a bit more robust than the hubba hubba which was a bonus too. Didn't experience any real condensation issues and managed to even pack it up inner first the morning it rained! Great affordable lightweight (not ultra) tent. Dolomites next summer!!
Bought this tent after watching this video.. Been out wild camping in it about 10 times over the last few months and absolutely love it outstanding tent great Quality.....Great value for money👍👍
Have been looking for a new tent for a while now but thanks to this video I think my search has finally come to an end! I loved the amount of detail in this, everything that was spoken was everything that needed to be heard. Very excited to get a weekend away in this cracking shelter! Cheers for such an informative video.
I've had this tent for exactly this 1 year now. Gone through lots use with lots of wind, rain, and thunderstorms. It has held up great. I love it. Rainfly on mine though is red and light grey. Excellent review.
Seems to be decent airflow around the base of the flysheet as well. Plenty of features and well thought out design. Glad you mentioned hydrostatic head - can cause a lot of confusion with the general public, and manufactures love using it as a sales gimmick! The only thing is that inner pitch first aspect for UK conditions. But all the pros outweigh that tbh. Good review 👍
I had my heart set on the Elixr 1 which is retailing at £215 the now. After seeing this I think I’m going to go for this for an extra £30 and have extra room for myself and with the option of taking one of my boys camping in the hills of Scotland. Great video Paul. Quality gear on you’re website ✌️
Good choice. I have the Hubba Hubba NX 2 and use it primarily as a solo tent. The weight difference is minimal but the space inside is noticeable! Harry
Thanks Paul, because of your comments and review I bought one here in Australia, and have used it in the Alpines in snow or during summer. Thanks again great review and great information well presented. Off to the next Alpine snow adventure and hi to Ben (footage hog clearly..lol)
The Elixir is heavier as it uses polyester rather than nylon, so it won't be any more durable but it will withstand UV degradation better and is cheaper to produce. Kind regards, Harry.
.... an important question - are the zips man enough for prolonged camping ? (they can be one of the weak points on a lot of tents these days), thanks, alan
They're pretty tough. Unlike some super lightweight tents, the Elixir's main focus is reliability, space and value, so the zips aren't thin and delicate. Kind regards, Harry.
Great reviews on gear. Have had an MSR hubba for 12 years. Bomb proof tent so thinking of something a bit bigger to take my daughter camping for a night either on site or wild camping. Looking at either this or the wild country trisar 2d. Csnt make my mind up. Any suggestions? Have you tested and reviewed the trisar 2D?
Hello, Great review! I have a litte question...! Do you think that it would be possible to leave a disassembled bike in the apse of the tent? I would like to buy an MSR Elixir tent, maybe the version 1p for travel with my bike alone or 2p to get more space . But i don't know if could leave the frame of the bike inside the apse? Thank you for your answer!
Ooh, that's a hard one. I don't think it'll fit WELL, but you might be able to squeeze it in. Personally, I'd opt for a tunnel tent to make life easier. You'll also reduce the risk of catching your derailleur on the lightweight flysheet. Harry
In the video it looks like the flysheet is really short. Will this allow lots if rain to get to any rucksacks and shoes in the porches if it's raining?
Hello, nice video, thanks for sharing! We have been looking into buying this tent for hiking and backpacking as it seems a really good quality but we are a bit concerned about weight. So we wandered what part of the weight we could leave at home and not carrying. We can´t find any information on the web about the weight of each separate part that goes in the kit with this tent. Would it be possible for you to say the weight of the footprint and pegs separately? And what would be the weight of only the rainfly, tent body and poles together? Thank you in advance.
@@trekitt Thanks so much for the quick reply! So it is 2.5 kg with a full setup, but if using this setup without footprint? As it is not stated how much weigh the footprint itself.
Hi I purchased this tent after watching your video clip, can you confirm your fly cover is green and the one I purchase is kind of greyish is this just down to country purchase?

Any comments from MSR tent owners? I think all of their tents LOOK good, but I hear bad things about their build quality and condensation management in general. Is that a fair assessment?
don't know if the have changed again but they went away from seamed seals and lots of people complained of getting water inside tent, hopefully they reverted to seam seaming
@@Wildernessoutside I did read that water ingress was an issue with them, which of course immediately shuts off that avenue of possibility as a prospective next tent!
I have the MSR 3 and I don't have any complaints so far. I've used it on Dartmoor with my 2 children and locally in the SE. It was pretty windy but only light rain so it coped well. I'm glad I bought it.
After a year I'm still finding exciting features. It's really simply to erect, which I did rapidly on a wet and windy Yorkshire Dales. I'm 6'1" and carry a decent sized begen too so I need the room, especially when it comes a Terra Nova. I can't fault it..thanks for the videos :) *Edit* In the next product review video can Ben pretend to be on the phone to a secret agent? Why a secret agent? Why not :))
Hubba is made of siliconised nylon and is lighter & more packable (and consequently more expensive) Elixir uses polyester, making it heavier and less packable but with a lower price point Both are extremely similar in terms of features, space and ease of setup.
@@trekitt Thankyou, I have the Hubba Hubba but wouldn’t feel confident taking it out if it was windy. This may be a good alternative option for a windy night? Thanks
@@Northern_Rockhopper It'll perform almost identically. I used my old Hubba Hubba in some pretty windy conditions and it was fine, but this is subjective. How can one setup tent if it is raining heavily nonstop? 🤔 Have you tried it under worse weather conditions to set up any of the msr tents? Thanks
