    What a brilliant thing to do. Retirees such as me need to keep an active mind and for me your sharing of this project is most appreciated. Not only will I, in time, rework your design to suit my similar mill/drill (HM-45) as a CNC machine but along the way I will get a very useful working knowledge of Fusion 360. Many thanks! :-).

      FYI It may be your intention but, in case it is not, I noticed that 2 of the links referenced in your original post produced restricted access errors (viz. X-axis mount plate modified (F360) and Closed loop stepper motor spreadsheet) and another produced a not found link error. (viz. TTS tool holder 3D print (F360)) Cheers Pete

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  5 років тому

      Hi Peter. I'm very sorry about that. I used to allow access to my project, but people would alter and rename files etc... It just all became too hard so I decided to upload the links. However, I let one more person access the project (he pleaded with me) and that guy caused the damage and deleted some files. I don't know if this was intentionally or accidentally as a novice F360 user as he didn't know what he was doing. My hard drive died and I don't have those files anymore. Hopefully the files will help you?

    Hi Aaron. Very impressed with what you have done and provided. Thanks. I have the same mill and am going to convert to CNC. I do however use the mill extensively for machining old parts and repairs etc, hence would like to retain the hand wheels. Do the Nema motors you selected have a thru shaft where handwheels could be attached and operated with the motors turned off? Alternatively have you used a jogging handset that can manually control the CNC mill? Regards Ross

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  6 років тому +1

      Ross Waring hey Ross. The motors I used don’t have a through shaft as they have an encoder on them. You can still use the milling machine manually via the MPG pendent hand wheel. I do this at home and at work too. You use the controller as a digital readout. Cheers Aaron

    Very nice! Thank you. I noticed there was a modified x and y plate, what do these modifications do?

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  7 років тому

      You're welcome Timmy. When I fitted these plates to my mill which I previously converted I noticed that the ball screw length was a little short for the couplings. So I trimmed 5mm on the face of the plate to allow the stand off to move in 5mm which gave me some extra grip on the stepper and ball screw shafts.

      Doug Hanchard Hi Doug, thank you for your comment. Many lessons learnt from the whole CNC experience. It was fun to do and very rewarding at the end. The little mill was very capable but it also had its limitations. My thoughts now, save your money and purchase a turn key machine like a SkyfireCNC, Tormach, Syil or something similar (single phase) for the home workshop. Cheers Aaron

    • @DougHanchard
      @DougHanchard 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for your candid answer. I do like how you approached the challenge. The CNC industry is moving quickly these days. And like software, computer boards, CPU's, etc, they are quickly updating at rates approaching the Windows, Apple and Android space is. We are seeing faster releases of computer boards, servos, steppers, power requirements and accuracy sensor capability that I would have never thought possible in a consumer grade machine with industrial precision accuracy.
      Look at how far Centroid has come with the size of board now available (like Acorn) and how software interfaces to both standalone and cloud CAD systems is progressing. And we haven't even talked about how software databases are now becoming fully integrated into tooling options now available and is just zooming along with releases. I don't even know where I want to dive in and get a machine anymore. It's happening so darned fast.
      Having watched many of your videos, I enjoy how you approach the problems that need to be addressed and that's an important part of how someone with an interests in CNC, should should enter the machining world. I hope you come out with more videos that address many of the hidden elements of how we should approach the integration of design, manual machines, computer control, material handling and understanding the subject areas we need to not just be aware of, but truly understand; the 5 W's as it were, Who, What, Where, Why and When of the industry. - thanks!

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  6 років тому +1

      Hey Doug. Very sorry for my belated reply. I agree with you all the way mate. Ever increasing computing power, PCB design and powerful software has changed and revolutionised the CNC market (however, your choice of words far outweigh that of mine).
      Oh, thank you for watching my videos too. Most of what I film and post comes about from my job as a high school shop teacher. Majority of models I film are student projects. I do this as it takes the load of the teacher when in the classroom allowing them to focus on students who need more support. It also allows the students to work self paced and not get held back by the others too.
      One thing that I've I learnt from this whole CAD CAM experience, especially since my trip to Autodesk University in Vegas, is that I'm still learning myself and to be honest I've only scratched the surface. Cheers, Aaron.

    Is there a way in fusion to open up your models and then see true dimensions ? I just want to print them off so i could machine them manualy

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  5 років тому +1

      Hello Tymek. You would need to follow the following steps:
      1). download the model/s
      2). open Fusion360 and upload the model/s into your project folder
      3). open the file you wish to view. Note: you can obtain direct measurements from the model using the (inspect / measure) tool.
      ## OR ##
      4). click on the drawing tab, bring model into the drawing environment in the correct drawing format and orientation
      5). apply dimensions as necessary
      6). export as PDF and print out on paper
      Hope this helps?

    How's this little mill go milling mild steel? In your original unboxing it looked like it was struggling/chattering a bit cutting that mild steel block? Trying to decide if i'd be better off going larger CNC router vs mill (no mild on the router obviously)

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  8 років тому

      Hi Manny, the little Titan TM20 - 25 is capable of machining steel. However it doesn't have the weight or rigidity to take savage cuts. Oh, in that other video I was using a drill chuck too. I suppose it will depend on your main purpose? A mate of mine over in WA is cutting out steel flanges on his quite successfully. Cheers, Aaron

    • @mannycalavera121
      @mannycalavera121 8 років тому +1

      Mainly ally work but the ability to cut steel is the kicker over a 6090 with larger capacity. Suppose you can ease back on cut/feed at the sacrifice of time, just didn't want to be fighting it the whole time you know?

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering

      Hi Manny, I usually say the following when people ask me the same question. If you're going to do timber predominately and only aluminium sometimes purchase a CNC router. If you going to predominantly machine aluminium and steel sometimes than the little TM25 (& it's clone varieties) are perfect for you. However, if you're serious and want machine lots of crazy stuff buy a HAAS lol. Cheers mate, Aaron.

    Very well done, thanks for sharing. So.....there is a "KIT " on amazon, listed as "DIY 3D printer steppers"
    . It costs 62 (was 189 a month ago ). You get a box the size of usps Medium flat rate mailer (about 12 x 10x8). 3 X nema 23 or 17 motors (I assume 23 is stronger so that's the one I picked, selection is marked "color and size ". Also an adruono Adrino uno, wires, cheap power supply , 3x stepper drivers, etc, software grbl (spelling?), asked if mark 3 would work, they didn't know. We'll I bought it, haven't set up yet , also got a little 99$ green cross slide table, and a Dewalt trim router. Is 23/17 nema strong enough? Maybe with gears and timing belt?.

      Good morning Adrian. I have converted many machines over the past years and I what I've learnt is that you quickly outgrow them (dove tails, low RPM spindle, dodgy R8 or MT3 spindle, no PDB). If you want my honest opinion mate. Save up your money and purchase a turn key solution. You can probably purchase a SyilCNC machine (without enclosure and ATC) for not much more money. Plus it will have servos, BT30 spindle, and power draw bar with 10K spindle). I suggest you contact Mr. Xushuo from SyilCNC directly and ask of a quote. Cheers, Aaron.

      Tymek Goral I used aluminium plates and square stock. All parts CNC machined on the Haas SMM2 at the school where I work.

    Do you know if these will fit the pm25mv?

    • @DCT_Aaron_Engineering
      @DCT_Aaron_Engineering  6 років тому

      Hi Brian, it depends which model mate. The PM25 has had 3 different model changes over the years. Best bet is to download all the free design files & photos outlined in the description of the video and compare measurements on your mill. Cheers, Aaron

      brian burns yes mate. Click on the link. This will open in A360. Use the blue button (I think it’s blue) and download the file. Files are in solidworks or f360

      DCTTeacher1 thank you! I'm new to fusion and figuring things out as I go. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

      brian burns you’re very welcome Brian. Download the F360 files to a folder on your computer. Then open Fusion and create a new project (call it CNC Conversion). Open that project and then import / upload the files you downloaded into this new project. Best of luck 👍

    could you send me these files please, Thanks

      Hi Tyler, I'm happy to share these files with fellow CNC enthusiasts. However, I can only share the files with you via Fusion360. Would you mind sending me a private message or email with your Autodesk email address (the one you use to access fusion with) please? Once I have this I can add you to the design project. Thanks for watching. Regards, Aaron.

      You are now added to the project. Please save the files into a project / folder of your own. I would prefer people don't work out of my project or resave any of the files. Enjoy ;-)

      Hi Robert. I am no longer making conversion kits for these little mills. The CAD models are free to download from the video description area mate. You could 3D print them, and then use your mill to make them out of aluminium. Cheers 🍻
