I picked up something from Vampire that I think is really great. In my binder I keep a collection of thematic images and depictions of locations, characters and items, sometimes just to give people a source of inspiration on the table, sometimes to help them imagine a scene, or sometimes to convey information that would be difficult to describe with words.
As always, if you enjoyed this video, please give it a like as it really helps me out. Purchasing anything via the affiliate links in the description also helps the channel at no extra cost to you.
I've watched a bunch of "minimalist DM gear" videos, and while your set up has more mass than theirs, you seem to have streamlined your gear to be even less than them. Very interesting
The biggest source of mass (laptop and core book) could be slimmed down even more by switching to a tablet and using something like dndbeyond or PDFs of the books.
@@IcarusGames even the contents of your binder seems like you don't have much of anything you wouldn't use regularly. I guess in my mind when I DMed I wanted to have something for any situation which bogged me down. I would need two trips to the car to grab all my stuff for a session. I guess it also depends on what your players expect. Since I love crafting, they expected terrain
I think that a lot of folks bring stuff to the table they don't need a lot of the time. There's no need to bring all worldbuilding materials at the table every session, for example.
We all are at one time I think. It's one of the reasons I like running the game on a laptop or tablet, because I've got everything there when I need it, but it doesn't take up loads of space.
I absolutely loved this video! Thank you for taking the time to make this for us. I am currently learning as much as I can to become a DM. I'm very nervous but slowly getting more excited. I don't know where my one dwarven figurine went to so I'm going to use mini Pokémon figurines as characters and NPC haha. I got a 6 set of mini dice to save space but have colour variety. Using a chunky binder similar to yours but a wider spine as my screen.
I think I'm really going to have to adapt to that binder system for my face-to-face game. Online I have my dual screens to make things easy, but its hard to dual screen laptops and not take up an exorbitant amount of space.
In the new year I will probably revisit the binder from a 5e perspective and make it much more detailed and do a video on it. My current binder is very supplementary and outdated.
@@IcarusGames Its a good idea, something quickly referenced without having to carry heavy books around. My inner artistry wants to color coordinate pretty file separators.
I'd really love to get my hands on some of those "Card Pawns" at the end? I can't afford a bunch or real minis, so currently I'm just printing out pictures and folding/cutting them a way so they stand, but it's pretty time-consuming (and heavy on ink). Please share!
I don't personally use reference cards because I've been DMing for a while now, but they are a super useful tool to help you remember important things.
What would you like to know specifically? I use OneNote to run most of my game, and have made many videos on it. This is a good place to start: ua-cam.com/video/IPFykmcBF3Y/v-deo.html
No I didn't know about that. The seller must have changed the listing. The bag that it does take you too looks to be quite similar but with zips where as mine uses press buttons.
Where do you keep your players? I've never been able to fit them in such a small bag.
*some disassembly may be required.
Where do I buy players?:)

This is very similar to my bag, except instead of a computer or tablet I just have a haphazard mass of loose papers.
LOVE the idea of putting the pawn sheets in sleeves. Well done! Subscribed.
The Pathfinder Beginner's Box is the best gift to DMs even if you don't play Pathfinder
It is an excellent product!

Damn! You got me. I didn’t see the premier. Lol. Okay I’ll have to wait till I wake up. Thanks for letting us know there is a video coming.
You also got me! When I saw the comment I thought the premiere hadn't set up properly and UA-cam had pushed the video out 6 hours early :)
Lol nope it’s fine I’m just blurry eyed and excited to see a new video from you.
@@christopherkearney6477 I had to upload the video 3 times because my machine kept crashing so I wasn't sure if it had worked properly :P

@@xFyreWytchx Oh definitely! The more content you add to the binder, the more you NEED pretty file separators.
It is always cool to see what other things that LMs/GMs keep in their bags for on the go gaming. :)

They are the Pathfinder pawns from paizo. You can pick all kinds of sets on Amazon :)
If you're going to go the paper minis route, I highly recommend checking out printable heroes if yo haven't already
Awesome video I am an experienced dm but I am just trying to find a better set up for what I am doing. Thanks for the ideas
That shirt is AWESOME! May I ask where you got it?
It was a gift so I don't actually know. I would guess somewhere Ike Etsy though.
If this is what you take to your D&D games, I wonder What you take to your Pathfinder games? D&D stuff? XD Nice video bro, keep it up!
Naaaaah, for pathfinder I Bring my Call of Cthulu stuff, really mix it up!
No wrong bag. We each carry what works well for us.
Lots of dice, writing materials, and an adventure or DM’s Guide. I really don’t need more than that to run a good game.
often where we play there's not a lot of power points AKA a cave
If you're using digital tools then battery packs are a must for locations like that. That's why I keep a power brick in my bag :)
Icarus Games rad I’m trying to get in to DMing and I took a lot of nots from the vid, do you use reference cards?
I don't personally use reference cards because I've been DMing for a while now, but they are a super useful tool to help you remember important things.
Icarus Games oh cool I’ll check some out
Where do I get the paper figures from? Is it google printing, Amazon?
They are the pathfinder pawns, available on Amazon and in game stores
This is cool but now I want to know how you organize your stuff on your laptop :p

Why do you have 4e PHB on the video caption shot?))
Had a little space to fill, wanted to show 4e some love.
@@IcarusGames Is still prefer it to 5e. Except for extra attacks and advantage rules.
It's got a lot of interesting mechanics too it!
Why do you play pathfinder 1E
Got started with 3.5, played that for a few years, then switched to PF1 because it was more up to date.
Icarus Games have you considered switching to D&D 5E or Pathfinder 2e?
I'll actually be switching to 5e for my next campaign. I've been reading through the core 3 books over the last couple months.
