Listen in my experience, Steven Universe is FILLED with dark, devastating episodes in every season but at the season finale it showed that he should forget about what happened to him and start a new life
Alone at Sea, Reformed, On the Run, Lar's Head, A Single Pale Rose, you can make a top 20 list on all the darkest episodes of Steven Universe!
And then
"Here we are in the FUTURE ♪"
White Diamond in the finale 😭
CAT FINGERS. Why does nobody talk about Cat Fingers. That really effed me up in season damn one!
@@elizabethvillanueva1483 I agree, the amount of times Stevens life was in danger, or a BIG secret is revealed, or the themes of War throughout the show, like that would be one list by itself.
I love when kid shows take dark turns
They may have dark turns, but they're important to have, so we can be prepared for reality.
Mr Turner ending up in a coma was really heartbreaking, especially when we never heard whether he survived or not after that episode. It was like he'd simply stopped existing. Luckily, the sequel series revealed that he was alive and well.
We *did* get a brief one sentence affirmation that he was still alive and well MUCH later in the original series. When the boys are in their senior year of high school, they reconnect unexpectedly with Mincus in the hallway. They start talking about how they don't see their fellow student anymore and Mincus says that he's just been at the other end of the hall. The boys look towards the camera, clearly disturbed, and say that they don't go down there; if you go down there you don't come back. Mincus laughs at their comment then leaves back down the hall. As he leaves, he shouts in the distance, "Hey, Mr. Turner! Wait up!"
It's a good little joke about why we never saw Turner again while also letting everyone know that he DID in fact live. But it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.
To be fair though, Boy Meets World wasn’t really a kids’ show; it was more of a family sitcom. And by that point, it was hardly a sitcom anymore.
I read this before the video got to that one and I thought you were talking about Timmy Turner’s dad from Fairly Oddparents💀😂
Ginger's poem was always emotionally poignant, it really resonated with me as a youngster. It didn't dawn on me until I was older that everyone was so concerned about Ginger possibly being depressed.
I connected with that poem so much, I memorized most of it. Turns out, there's a very real reason. I was already in my late 20's when I was diagnosed with clinical depression.
I'm shocked that Korra's torture wasn't considered more disturbing. The way she fights to endure knowing she needs to buy time. The endangerment of her friends and family driving her insane. Metal sunk into her skin as she screams. THAT hit me harder.
This is one reason why Batman is such a favorite hero to many fans. He's clever, strong, serious, and brutal at times, but deep down inside, he has a heart of gold.
His heart was always gold. It just has a dark cloak covering it.
As dark as that particular episode of EENE is, One of my favorite parts of that episode is when Eddy finally becomes scared of Ed. Because throughout the episode Eddy kept laughing it up like it was all a big joke while Double D kept telling him that Ed wasn't playing around.
And so seeing Eddy finally realize that makes it satisfying.
“Check it out, Double D’s yelling at it.” - Kevin 😂
Bruce can relate to Ace because both of them never had a childhood. Ace was trained to be a weapon since she was little, and Bruce had to grow up fast after his parents were killed. At least in the end, Ace shared her final moments with Bruce, the one person who understood her the most.
Yeah, I'm glad Ace at least got to know that one person truly understood her before passing on. She could die in peace.
Thank you for showing all 20+ surprisingly dark moments from shows that are meant for children (5+), tweens and teens alike.
Bill Cipher was ONE INCREDIBLY POWERFUL cartoon antagonist in the ‘Gravity Falls’ series.
While So Many Birthdays was a particularly dark episode, I thought Alone at Sea was really dark since it covered heavy topics involving the consequence of an abusive relationship and PTSD.
How did nothing from Owl House (Luz and Hunter’s trauma, Hollow Mind/Belos’ story, The Day of Unity etc.) not make it on the list?
EDIT-And what about Amphibia (the cannibals, Anne’s death, Marcy getting stabbed and later her getting possessed by the Core etc.)?
That was my favorite episode of Season 2 of The Owl House and I’m shocked it wasn’t mentioned Man I Miss TOH so much it deserved so much better here’s to hopefully in the future it gets spin-offs ✨🦉🏠✨
@@pamelakibildis1177 Same here
Agreed! How could they gloss over those shows?!
@@paulslegosandvideos3808 Yeah but they mention Gravity Falls Come On MsMojo
“Goodnight. Goodbye.”
To this day, that very word sent more chills down my spine than any dark moment in a children’s program.
What Series is about?
Oh, I remember that Stepney episode from when i was a kid! Sure was scary when that grappling hook nearly crushed him..... 😨
Season 5 of _Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends_ had no dark moment shortage. Seeing Percy and his crew get to the canvas as the mine just before the avalanche came down on them in “Put Upon Percy” made my heart pound, not knowing if they’d survive.
The "Perfect" episode might be dark but seeing courage finally accept that it's okay he's not perfect makes for an awesome episode
Azula’s defeat was actually one of the most satisfying moments in Avatar: The Last Airbender because she was pretty much born to be evil and her comeuppance was long overdue.
I was glad when she was defeat and the fire Lord was also defeat, I wish I knew if Zucko found his mom
The answer lies in the comics @@melissagrant4178
Dark and satisfying
@@melissagrant4178 There's actually a graphic novel where they find her. It's called "The Search."
She was not born to be evil, although the show may have portrayed it that way. Her father groomed her as his golden child, you know what narcissistic abuse looks like you go, watch avatar, the last, Airbender, along with 1001 other lessons. Was then the scapegoat, although her being diffused was awesome, I will admit this, but more because she looked down upon Katara for the entire series, and therefore Kara was in a position to prove herself, and prove that everything Azula thought, and believe was wrong elemental bending or no elemental elemental bending that’s a hard pill to swallow Let alone come back from please per dictation for the errors
It boggles my mind how so much dark content managed to sneak its way into many kids cartoons.
Not surprised that the ending of dinosaurs is at the top of the list.
It could have ended differently though- All they had to do was take Charlene’s advice to trim back the vines, live with a little discomfort and wait for nature to sort itself out. But instead they let Mr Richfield (using Earl) take charge of the situation by spraying poison, making a volcano erupt by throwing bombs into it and caused an ice age in the process.
That dinosaur ending was super dramatic and heartbreaking to see. I wish kids shows today at least try to do something more specificated to children when telling them stories.
The tragic death scene of Mary Jane Watson’s clone made us depressed back in the day.
19:30 It wasn’t just Azula wanting to pursue power that led to her downfall but why she wanted it in the first place. She saw fear as the only way of having security for herself even though what she really wanted was unconditional love from her parents & true trust from friends but because of the way her father groomed her to act & think as his protege, that could never became a reality 😔
Belos’s backstory in The Owl House episode “Hollow Mind” is dark if you know how the episode is telling the story.
“Over the Edge” became one of my 10 most favorite episodes of ‘The New Batman Adventures.’
How come Hunter's Possession & Flapjack's Death from The Owl House didn't make the list?
😢😢😢😢😢😢1:15, Chocolate can still be anyone's Candy weakness these days, but I never really thought it can be a Drug to alot of Cartoon Characters, even Cartoon Kids, too.
Top 10 Times The Powerpuff Girls Tackled Serious Issues
Top 10 Times My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Tackled Serious Issues
Top 10 Worst Things the Powerpuff Girls Have Done
I would have figured the Collector finally learning about death and knowing he can't fix it from The Owl House would have been on this list. Or Leonardo accidentally cut Master Splinter with sword because he lost control of his anger in the 2003 TMNT.
Stepney wasn't carrying passengers. That was his driver and fireman.
Season 8 of Ninjago marked a particularly dark turning point for the show. Towards the end of the season, Lloyd's father, Garmadon is revived after a ritual preformed by Harumi. Lloyd, having seen his father reformed once, believed he could turn Garmadon good again. Garmadon, however, has no light left in him to save. Lloyd, believing he can save his father, goes to fight him alone, despite protests from his friends. But since Garmadon is essentially pure darkness now, Lloyd's attempts fail, and Garmadon defeats him brutally, leaving him on the brink of death.
Ace's death in JLU might be my favorite Batman scene ever.
Amphibia VS The Owl House!
To this day, I can still hear Spider-Man's scream of agony echo in my head.
These Kids Shows are all filled with the Darkest Moments we all have seen throughout the years. They're all just so Super Terrifying, Horrific and Painful to forget
3:59 "NOOOOOOOO! MARY JANE!"
Oscars: animation is for kids
Mrmojo: I'm about to put an end to these women's careers.
I actually love the scene when Zaheer sucks the air out of the Earth Queen’s mouth because her death was long overdue.
3:59
Spider-Man's Screaming NOOO! from the VA really didn't had to go that hard
just from telling by the Tone, the Lungs on that with effort & feeling,
srly the darkest if not Worst things that happened to mine & everyone's favorite Superhero, Childhood icon, & many personal Role Model, and inspirational characters that ever lived.
That's Christopher Daniel Barnes ladies & gentlemen.
I'm honestly surprised the ending of Dinosaurs made it to the screen at all.
Party of One from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Everyone loves Pinkie Pie but in this episode, when she believes her friends doesn’t want to be her friends anymore and not come to her parties, she gets all creepy and starts the famous fanfiction creepy story of Cupcakes
Two episodes that always stayed with me was the both from Captain planet. One was the episode about HIV and aids and the other one was the one about the drugs and we actually see someone died of a overdose
Or the episode with Hitler weakening Captain Planet just by looking at him.
16:16 I remember this story and was traumatized by it for years
That Batman and Ace scene from Justice League reminds me of that one Wolverine comic. The one were he goes to a cave and drinks a beer with a boy that went through a similar situation. Just heartbreaking 😢
This top made me wanna cry, good thing it had good pics, though. Happy friday afternoon, Rebecca. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
When I was watching kids’ show growing up, I never realized how dark these moments were. Looking back on it now, I feel sad and disturbed. 😦😢
You wanna onow what was dark. "The Late Clark Kent" from Superman: The Animated Series. This episode should've won an Emmy. Following Clark trying to prove the innocence of a death row inmate as he's about to he executed for a murder he didn't commit.
After speaking with the lead detective and a pizza place to confirm his alibi, his car blows up and has to go into hiding as Superman to solve the case. With the help of Lois, he finds out that the lead detective, Detective Bowman, was the culprit and stips him frominf trying to escape. This epusode ends with the death row inmate being freed and Detective Bowman being executed as during gis last seconds if life he realized that Clark was Superman.
This episode hit some very heavy topics with the most basic being Superman's existential crisis after faking gis death to the more heavy topics like murder, death row and police corruption
We just got dark super fast
Marcy getting stabbed in Amphibia definitely needed to be on this list.
Chocolate Boy breaking down into tears and hugging Arnold always touches a nerve 😢
When I first started watching Steven Universe, I enjoyed it but when it came to that episode. It was heartbreaking and dark at the same time
The Earth Queen’s death scene from ‘The Legend of Korra.’ Of course.
I would consider the death of Hiroshi Sato more disturbing.
He was crushed like a bug in front of his own daughter, whom he had saved in the last second.
I didnt realize till I was older all the cast of dinosaurs died from the ice age. God i wish they would bring that show back some how.
The gun episode of Family Matters especially the scene where Laura's classmate gets shot and Maxine is holding her while crying and Steve is calling for someone to get help and then at the end where everyone breaks character and explains how violence is never the answer...also the Black History episode when the "n word" is seen on the locker door and when Estelle tells Laura about what she has to go through as a kid just to be able to go to the library.
Don't forget the episode where Steve started a Bone Narrow drive to save a Bully who a fighting Leukemia.
15:00 I believe Robin Slade was there and also the real reason maybe why they have to re-create kid friendly teen Titans even though this version is the best, Teen Titans
How about PLENTY of examples from Goosebumps? Such as:
(WARNING for spoilers)
* Ricky transforming and enslaving the whole school at the end of “Calling All Creeps”
* Aunt Dahlia dying such a grisly death in “An Old Story”
* Mr. Toggle playing piano for eternity at the end of “Piano Lessons Can Be Murder”
The list goes on and on.
The Alvin and the Chipmunks episode where their kitten falls out the window and and hit and killed by a car. That’s haunted me for over 30 years
Dani falling apart and the Tiny Toons kids drinking were very dark
Please do top 20 times my little pony friendship is Magic and Equestria girls Tackled serious issues I've waited long enough
Remember when fans thought using Blood Bending was the creepiest thing in Avatar? And now we have Oxygen Bending that can kill.
14:53 Robin threatening to take down the other Titans, still gives me chills 😮
I was actually scared when I first watched the episode; Scott Menville’s voice acting for Robin, was awesome.
The episode “Haunted” was before Slade got resurrected by Trigon. I think one of the most darkest moments in Teen Titans, was Slade’s face unmasked in the second part of “The End”; how he got resurrected after Terra killed him.
There are too many episodes of CentaurWorld, though I have to say both the Whales Song, the backstory of the Nowhere King, and the Nowhere King;s ending are all horribly dark. A contender is the song about burying bodies instead of outright killing people to hide your crimes.
Also, with Batman: the animated series-- the one that stood out to me the most was the day the Joker broke Robin. I can't believe they let that one slip into the animation.
And finally, the Static Shock episode about gun control and bullying which ended with a school shooting and someone actually getting shot.
You forgot Adventure time episode Evergreen. Especially at the end of the episode when we finally discover the continuation of the ice king's crown, and we witness Gunther losing his mind, and Evergreen can no longer do anything to stop the Lich comet from destroying all current life on Earth.
I thought the same
When I was watching The Legend of Korra during the pandemic, an episode of Korra being tortured by the poison inside her and seeing her villains, well, my mom said “this is dark for kids”
Can you guys make a "top 20 darkest moments in Steven Universe" next?
Did no one else notice that the last name of the dinosaur creature thing was "Hand up me". subtlety thy name is none.
I was gonna say, probably the darkest episode ever was the Bravestarr one. Another dark one was in season 3/4 of Transformers G1 where Galvatron goes mad.
5:40 - 6:05 I... I suddenly heard LITERALLY no sound on those parts.
16:22 Correction, the two people that stepney's with is not passenger, there his crew. driver and fireman
Ed Edd N' Eddy (1999-2009) When Double D dresses Ed up like a monster and he terrifies and captures all the Cul De Sac kids except Sarah for some reason
I wouldn't call that episode dark
There is not Star's death ?! Or all the dark moments in Infinity Train?
#20: Sabertooth’s Flashback (X-Men)
#19: Chocolate Boy (Hey Arnold!)
#18: Trying to Be Perfect (Courage the Cowardly Dog)
#17: Mary Jane Evaporates (Spider-Man: The Animated Series)
#16: Weirdmageddon (Gravity Falls)
#15: Ginger’s Poem (As Told By Ginger)
#14: Mr. Turner’s Accident (Boy Meets World)
#13: Deadly Force (Gargoyles)
#12: Squidward Attempts to End Things (SpongeBob SquarePants)
#11: Ace’s Death (Justice League Unlimited)
#10: Zim Steals Organs (Invader Zim)
#9: Speed Demon (The Powerpuff Girls)
#8: Covering up murder (SpongeBob SquarePants)
#7: Over the Edge (The New Batman Adventures)
#6: Robin’s Hallucinations of Slade (Teen Titans)
#5: The Earth Queen’s Death (The Legend of Korra)
#4: Stepney Almost Gets Scrapped (Thomas and Friends)
#3: Steven’s Near Death Experience by Aging (Steven Universe)
#2: Mind Pollution (Captain Planet and the Planeteers)
Honorable Mentions:
- The Consequences of Drinking (Tiny Toon Adventures)
- Dani Falls Apart (Danny Phantom)
- Azula’s Breakdown (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
- Jay Dies from an Overdose (Bravestarr)
#1: Extinction (Dinosaurs)
19:26 Azula's Narcissistic personality made me sad for her in a way. Even in flashbacks to childhood, she was nasty. Everyone is born innocent, so something must have happened to her at a very young age to make her become so cruel and selfish.
What happened to the audio in As Told By Ginger?!
That scene with Squidward must have been the inspiration for the creepy pasta.
If you notice in Are you happy now, Spongebob actually tries to talk to squidward during the "suicide" scenes
White Diamond, in the Steven Universe finale 😳 🤢😭
What she does to him is shocking and disgusting
That's all I can say without a full spoiler 🥺
The As Told by Ginger episode (to me) should tell people NOT to over analyze or jump to dark conclusions. The Powerpuff Girls episode is dark for another reason, the girls are prisoners of Townsville. The Tiny Toons drunk episode is wrong because ONE bottle of beer split 3 ways shouldn't make anyone that drunk.
this episode of batman is one of my all time favorites
Steven Universe VS Star vs the Forces of Evil!
It has nothing to do with the video
@@opalepeack Steven Universe has full of dark moments for a kids' show
@@marcusyates3044 yes, but why did you say Steven Universe VS Star vs the Forces of Evil ?
@@opalepeack Oh, like no request to Watchmojo this versus idea?
@@opalepeackLook up how much they have in common
I think the Thomas and Friends episode was not nearly as rough as the episode from the original series (the one narrated by Ringo Star) where one of the engines refused to do a job, so Sir Topum Hat had him bricked up into a tunnel, Cask of Amantilado style. He had just enough room at eye level to see the world oass him by, but nobody wiuld help him. And they NEVER let him out again. He apparently never again makes an appearance after that.
Being almost scrapped is not quite as bad as being buried alive and deliberately forgotten.
If air nomads are so peaceful then why does this technique exist 15:40 ! ?
Let's not forget the episode on static shock Jimmy he was bullied and he brought his dad gun to the community center and then Richie got hurt and was put in a leg cast
I feel like Marcy’s stabbing in Amphibia should’ve been included
You forgot the swat Kats... The series is chalked full of dark episodes but two of them stand out the most
Bright and shiny future: the past master sends our heroes to dystopian future where the metallikats and other robots take over the world! Not only do they take over the world but they managed to successfully kill our heroes by causing them to crash into a tower on screen...razor and tbone learn of their deaths and basically do what they can to improve the future
Razors edge: my fave episode of the series! Sees the normally action ready go-get-them hero Razor deal with depression and self doubt after he thought he hurt two innocent people with an octopus missile that was meant to catch darkkat! Tbone tries snapping him out of it but it doesn't work until a mistake was said by one of the people
I remember the Darkest moment was Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja episode Evil Spirit Week where Randy sacrifice throwing the Ninja Mask into the fire to save Howard from the Tengu demon bird
The Earth Queen’s Death left me breathless
P'Li death was mind-blowing.
Her, too
19:30 In all honesty, Azula deserved it.
The amazing Spiderman: Spiderman turns into a monster. Normally our favorite webhead is catching badguys but in a season long event he's told the same thing that turned him into Spiderman is mutating even more. By the fourth episode he starts feeling the mutation start to take its effect making his sides hurt. By the end he takes a serum that his friend dr crawford thought would cure him but wasn't sure and her fears are realized when he grows 4 extra arms. By the end of the fifth episode after trying to stop morbius who was turned into a vampire after being bitten by a radioactive bat (also according to Spiderman the same blood he was trying to see if the serum would work) and fighting the punisher his mutation soon accelerates and turns him into what was called the manspider.
Number 3 hit HARD for me 😔
Honorable Mentions
Marcy gets stabbed: Amphibia
Flapjack’s death: The Owl House
Jet Dies: Avatar the Last Airbender
One episode that was so fucked up and unsuitable for kids was Perry having a god-awful traumatizing nightmare in one Phineas and Ferb episode.
Discord VS Bill Cipher! Who's the Most Chaotic Villains in the 2010s?
They actually do battle in a UA-cam show called Death Battle.
@@dreamguardian8320 The verses is about who deserves the crown!
That's my favorite PPG episode.
I think the darkest moment in kids shows. Was Shredder murdering Splinter on screen in the TMNT 2012 series on Nick.
We all need a bathtub barracuda in our lives😭
Interesting how bathtub barracuda who is associated with self respect and accepting one’s flaws is from the same episode as the “you’re not perfect” fetus thing
My immediate thought was the episode of Captain Planet where Linka's cousin OD'd!!!
As longtime Marvel fans, we witnessed the brutal origin of Victor Creed Senior AKA Sabretooth, Wolverine’s most hated enemy.
Not even an honorable mention for Transmutate? (Beast Wars season 2 episode 10)
That episode was phenomenally dark on its subject matter of eugenics, finding acceptance as an outsider, and ultimately losing that one thing you cared about most. The episode humanized Rampage ffs!
Joker pushing Harley out a window certainly should have ranked. Has to be devastating when the person you love tries to kill you without a moment's hesitation.
You know, Lincoln getting kicked out of the house because his family thought he was bad luck was so dark, a bunch of Loud House fans made fanfics about that episode
Tom and jerry blue cat blues deserved a spot there
