I just found out something about yu-gi-oh from this episode: there is a card called Armed Samurai- Ben Kei which gains an extra attackt from equip spell cards. How educational!
The Turban could hint at Flame Man actually being from Iran, not necessarily Saudi Arabia. Iran is basically modern-day Persia, and the Turban is Persian in origin, plus Iran exports a lot of oil (though not as much as Saudi Arabia). As there's a lot of cross-cultural contact between Arab nations and Iran (so much so that a lot of Westerners don't even know the difference), that could explain the Arab archetecture at the beginning.
Almost 90% of roman mythology is Greek mythology adopted and modified, one example being Hades, Hades became Pluto,God of the dead and riches,Hades only being the god of the dear. A few gods were made such as Bellona,Roman goddess of war, meant to take over Athena's(Goddess of War Strategy and Intelligence) role, Athena became Minerva,a much tamer goddess in the eyes of the Romans. Also Heracles became Hercules, and another example of a god changing is Zeus lord of the sky becoming Jupiter.
Well, there is a story that the original ancestor of Rome was someone who had left the battle at Troy, where the Trojans fought the Greeks as they say, so this makes sense.
To be honest, 6 is one of my favorites as well, but for what comes from the Mega Man manga, not just from the game. The events of the competition in the manga are emotional and gives another layer of narrative to this beautiful series.
Did you ever thought of covering the mythological references in Mega Man V (the GB game). Because, I found quite a few not only in each level but also the weaknesses partly connect to the gods relationships: - Venus' weakness is Mars Photon Missile -> the goddess *literally* fell to Mars' weapon of choice - Saturn is weak to Jupiter's weapon (obviously something similar to a lightning bolt) - > the titan Saturn/Kronos was beaten by his son Jupiter/Zeus (to bad Saturn's Black Hole is NOT Uranus weakness, him being Saturn's father and also being beaten by his son) There's a lot more in each level.
@Gaijin Goombah, I think another possible reason why Centaur Man's level is a water level (and how that connects to Greece) could have to do with the fact that Ancient Greece was a very sea-loving culture, as they relied on the sea for sustenance and transportation (if I recall correctly, they also had one of the greatest navies of the ancient world at one time).
Also, Atlantis does share, one more thing, about Greece, in Greece, it was, what I do believe is that Atlantis, is actually a real place, in history, known as the Gardens of Babylon, I believe, or something like that, as Babylon is a historical place, that did exist, once upon a time actually.
What made this 2-part Game Exchange even cooler for me was that, during the time between part 1 & 2, my mom got me a few NES games, one of them being Mega Man 6. So, now when I play it, I can know a lot, if not all of the cultural references in each stage. Thanks, Gaijin Goomba! :D
Right on, man! I went to the UofA, lived in Fayetteville, then packed up and moved to New York City. Glad to see some great content coming out of my much missed city. Keep it up, sir!
I think one of the coolest reference in Megaman 6 would be the Mechazaurus. It doesn't reference any one country but it's a reference to Getter Robo's monsters of the week, the Mechasaurus.
Regarding Flame Man in early Arabia people wore a turban, however not just horizontally around the head but also vertically; the Sudanese and Tuareg wear it like it was. The modern Saudi dress also has a horizontal and vertical turban if you count the black igal as the horizontal
I was impressed with the info on Yamatoman, I wish I could learn more, also in regards to Benkei and that immortal toad dude. This was so cool, you educated me yet again, and I wish the Gaijin Goomba character would be turned into a plush toy with some favorite facts. ^_^
Actually Genji Goomba, you're right about the Ixion myth, but, in Greek history, traders would see men ride in on horseback, mainly, the nomadic tribesmen, which did come from the Black Sea, making the traders at the time, think, that they were, half man half horse, so that is the other reason, as to where we got the name, Centaur from, also.
Hoy Gaijin, do you think you could ever do an episode on Shin Megami Tensei? I picked up 4 as part of the deal and while the game does a sort of okay job explaining backstories with the bios I think there's a load of stuff that could be used as episode material.
If you'd believe it, Benkei is also referenced in Beyblade Metal Fusion. Based on what I gathered from this video and what I've seen from the series. Benkei became friends and eventually partners with Kyouya after losing to him several times. From this, I can hypothesize that the relationship between Benkei and Yoshitzune (Pardon if I just butchered that.) is referenced through Benkai and Kyouya from Metal Fusion.
So this re-upload is on his main channel. The last time we saw it it was on MatPat's channel. Not only that, but he adds notes from random comments he may have missed.
Mega Man 3 is my favorite of the Classic Mega Man series. Anyways, this two-part video on Mega Man 6 brought new insight of the game for me. By the way, when you started talking about Benkei I immediately thought of Genji: Dawn of the Samurai. It has Benkei in it as well.
It is important to note too that Greece was vastly influenced by the Minoan civilization, based Crete and other islands nearby. The Minoans were a sea power, of course, and are explicitly the origin of many Greek myths such as Icarus and the Minotaur. It is also a big contender for being the true Atlantis, as one of it's largest cities was basically vaporized by a volcano and swallowed by the sea in what would be essentially Greek Pre-history. So, a Centaur man in a water context actually makes a fair amount of sense.
Hey Gaijin Goombah, are you going to be talking about the upcoming Pokémon X and Y which are probably going to be largely based on France? The name of the new Pokémon-Amie system also has the french word "ami", meaning friend in it. Though "amie" means girlfriend in particular, I think it's spelled like that because they wanted to make sure people would pronounce it properly.
correct me if i'm wrong, but in addition to the Yamato clan, wasn't there a polearm weapon called the Yamato which Yamato man clearly uses? I mean, really?
Hey. So, out of interest, is Benkei (who you described as collectng the swords of his fallen enemies) the influence for the character of Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy? Great vid! (additionally... do people really believe Centaurs are Roman? Pretty much all of Roman mythology is nicked from the Greek!)
Hey, I came here after seeing you on the Final Fantasy religion episode of Game Theory. It was a real eye opener about Japan, is there any feasible way you might be able to take a look at more religion in gaming, perhaps in other parts of the world? (Like Europe and Australia, maybe?)
This was another lovely episode. I noticed something with the Chinese robot master, though. The symbol that appears on many of the pillars in the level (and on his helmet-bowl) is something I see often in association with Chinese culture. What is it, exactly?
Honestly, sometimes, at least with things like the pelican enemy, I think it's more sensible to say that they didn't put that much thought into it and just figured 'hey, water world, pelicans eat fish, let's make a pelican enemy.'
I have to ask, during these videos, would you be "Gaijin Mettuar" instead of Gaijin Goomba? but anyway, thanks for all the awesome, (And experienced) videos, can't wait to see what's next Gaijin!
He isnt sponsored by Arkadia Retrocade. Hes just promoting it because its an awesome classic arcade that not a lot of people know about. I was at his birthday party
I have another suggestion why Centaur Man's level is designed on Water. You saw that there were many waterfalls around that level, right. There is a greece myth about a Centaur named Nessus, who was killed by Heracles. Nessus (or Nessos) was one of Thessalian Kentauroi (Centaurs) who fled his homeland after the Lapith war. He made his way to the Aitolian river Euenos and there established himself as ferryman. When Herakles later passed by with his bride, Deianeira, Nessos took her upon his back and ferried her across the river. However, he became enflamed with desire for the beautiful woman and attempted to force her. She cried out and Herakles slew him with his poisoned arrows. Nessos, as he was dying, persuaded Deianeira to take some of his poisoned blood to use as a love charm should Herakles ever proved unfaithful. Out of jealousy, because Heracles started to get closer to Iole, Deianeira poured the blood onto a shirt and gave it to him. The dupe resulted in the hero's death.
Aw man you should. They have so many references to pop culture stuff, If you like that sort of reference humor its a good show. Maybe you could do a show about it one day.
Forgot to mention that the name of Wind Man's stage is Mechanical Tower (as in the same type of tower you mentioned). Also, the pattern on the bowl on his head is another stereotype and the body design is also a nod to stereotypic Chinese cartoon/art designs.
Hey G.G. did you know that Benki was also in Genpei Toumaden, Namco X Capcom and I think even reference in Gestu Fuuma Den. Very interesting wouldn't you agree?
I really agree with your opinion, MM6 was a great game but now it is one of my favorites in the series. I really love the series like you but I mainly liked the X series(X1-X5).I also like the classic series but only 1,5,6,7,9 I really didn't care for 3 and 8 but I hated 8,4, and 2. I also agree that mega man 5 was the best of the origonal 6 but my favorites are X1,9, and 5
Can't say I've seen a link between purple and the dead in Japan! But it does seem to have the same role as red in the west when representing evil or dark powers!
maaaayybbe mega man himself is a referance to benkei because he collects the weapons of the robot masters and benkei collects thee weapons of his fallen enemies
When he talked about the man who could produce the pills I thought of a Chinese legend about why they celebrate the moon festival. It’s a nice coincidence.
I really want to play mega man 6. I have a wii and have the first 5 mega man games downloaded, but 6 is no longer in the store. I did heard it is downloadable on the Wii U virtual console store. I guess I gotta get a 3DS.
I know this is off-topic but Can you have Bowser as a guest in the next Game Exchange if it involved a Mario game??? I thought it'll be awesome seeing Gaijin Goomba with Bowser dressing like Nobunaga ^_^
Hey Gaijin- I know this is a bad place to put this, but did you hear about the Mega Kanto Starters? Since Blastoise is your favorite, what do you think about this development?
i love learning through gaming
I just found out something about yu-gi-oh from this episode: there is a card called Armed Samurai- Ben Kei which gains an extra attackt from equip spell cards. How educational!

ahh, game exchange, you and chuggaaconroy taught me so much about culture
i like your pfp
The purple color is a color the rich people in Asia used a lot, because purple dye was really expensive to make

4:26 you misplaced the slicing sounds
It's called sony "Vegas" for a reason. it's sometimes a gamble.

At long last someone on youtube who can actually analyze games without bias. Your channel is amazing- subbin
THIS GAME WAS SO AWSOME!
Sweet god I miss these
Right on, man! I went to the UofA, lived in Fayetteville, then packed up and moved to New York City. Glad to see some great content coming out of my much missed city. Keep it up, sir!
Megaman 6 was always my favorite in the series for all the culture and mythology references and I love your videos.
***** Maybe the fact that mega man collects the weapons of his enemies is a reference to Benkei!
I think one of the coolest reference in Megaman 6 would be the Mechazaurus. It doesn't reference any one country but it's a reference to Getter Robo's monsters of the week, the Mechasaurus.
Who could possibly think that Centaurs originated from Roman mythology? Like ninety percent of Roman mythology is stolen from Greek mythology anyway.
I know right. Percy Jackson told me Greeks had centaurs with Disonoyos and Chiron.
roman mythology is just a spiritual successor to greek.
Not spiritual, it's just flat out copying. Romans kicked the shit out of the Greeks and stole their mythos.
Well, if you happen to be a worshipper to giygas, then the two are the same when it comes to undertale.
Note: not a hater of undertale
I love your 8-Bit sounding intro :)
Your vids are awesome too!
I am very excited that you've taken on a sponsor! Keep doing what it takes to make this sustainable. I wish you the best of luck.
Regarding Flame Man in early Arabia people wore a turban, however not just horizontally around the head but also vertically; the Sudanese and Tuareg wear it like it was. The modern Saudi dress also has a horizontal and vertical turban if you count the black igal as the horizontal

I can imagine. If I understand correctly, the process of making ships watertight back then also make them very flammable.
Hoy Gaijin, do you think you could ever do an episode on Shin Megami Tensei? I picked up 4 as part of the deal and while the game does a sort of okay job explaining backstories with the bios I think there's a load of stuff that could be used as episode material.
As always AMAZING.
I always look forward to your videos.
This statement still holds true.
I took a second to look at your icon, and I have to say, that's probably one of the most potentially dangerous combinations of characters out there.
If you'd believe it, Benkei is also referenced in Beyblade Metal Fusion. Based on what I gathered from this video and what I've seen from the series. The explanations you made of Yamato Man made me think of Naruto so hard!
So this re-upload is on his main channel. The last time we saw it it was on MatPat's channel. Not only that, but he adds notes from random comments he may have missed.
I see it from your side now :O
I feel so... ENLIGHTENED!
While you were talking about 🇬🇷, an enemy thing that I do not know what they are called. So why did you not simply kill It?
best chanel eva
I love that chiptune at the beginning :3
Mega Man 3 is my favorite of the Classic Mega Man series. Anyways, this two-part video on Mega Man 6 brought new insight of the game for me. By the way, when you started talking about Benkei I immediately thought of Genji: Dawn of the Samurai. It has Benkei in it as well.
***** I'm just curious but would you consider doing a video about the Sengoku Basara Game series? I'd love to hear your opinions on the games.
well done. You had some great insight and I thought it was really cool.
Can't wait until the next vid man. Your vids are great!
For centaur man, the Greek discovered Spain and its people and said that Hercules had to go there to complete one of the tasks so he could be a god

The minoans and mycenaeans, not just the minoans.

Another detail I haven't noticed here, both Knightman and Windman were robot masters created by fans during a contest.
knight man is the link between shovel knight an mega man
Hey, I came here after seeing you on the Final Fantasy religion episode of Game Theory. It was a real eye opener about Japan, is there any feasible way you might be able to take a look at more religion in gaming, perhaps in other parts of the world? (Like Europe and Australia, maybe?)

I've been having a lot of issues with UA-cam over the past couple of days. Hope that things are fixed soon. Either way, another great episode, GG. :)
GG, ur intro music is the freakin bestest.
What's the best material to a replica of Atlantis? Plato
Windman's stage also looks like in the background that there is bamboo.
Honestly, sometimes, at least with things like the pelican enemy, I think it's more sensible to say that they didn't put that much thought into it and just figured 'hey, water world, pelicans eat fish, let's make a pelican enemy.'

6:21 So Benkei is basically a past version of General Grievous from Star Wars?
audio glitch where the sound slashes came seconds before the times where he used his sword
Also, if you remove the horns from Centaur Man's helmet, it will look close to Corynthian helmets worn by ancient greek hoplites.
@Fiona McCann It is a Mettaur, a character from MegaMan.
He isnt sponsored by Arkadia Retrocade. Hes just promoting it because its an awesome classic arcade that not a lot of people know about. I was at his birthday party
Hey Gaijin great videos dude! Have you ever heard of or watched any Sgt Frog while in Japan or watched any of the dubbed stuff?
4:57 grammar mistake it's centaur not centaurs
"Greek fire", an incendiary of some sort, which they did indeed use in naval warfare. Look it up.
I have done some research and the story of Atlantis is actually Egyptian not Greek so Centaurman also represents Egypt due to Atlantis.
I have another suggestion why Centaur Man's level is designed on Water.
You saw that there were many waterfalls around that level, right. There is a greece myth about a Centaur named Nessus, who was killed by Heracles.

Wait wasn't that in the Hercules movie
Aw man you should. They have so many references to pop culture stuff, If you like that sort of reference humor its a good show. Maybe you could do a show about it one day.
pharoah man should have been in this game he represents Egypt!
+Micaela Aull and replace plant man
He was already in four, so as awesome as he is he couldn't have been in here
also windman has a noodle bowl as a helm
also it's a bootleg of air man. china has no copyright laws.
When I first played Mega Man 6, I thought Centaur Man's stage was Atlantis
Hey GG what do you think of the Megaman Zero games and ZX games. Personally I am a fan of all the Megaman sereis.
Forgot to mention that the name of Wind Man's stage is Mechanical Tower (as in the same type of tower you mentioned). Also, the pattern on the bowl on his head is another stereotype and the body design is also a nod to stereotypic Chinese cartoon/art designs.
not to mention they have no copyright laws in china, so that's why it's a knockoff.
Gaijin Goombah: "Centaur Man"
Me: Oh. That makes sense. Totally Greece.
Also with centaur man's water relation the ancient greeks tended to base their city off of water based defenses
congrats on 50K subs!
Hey G.G. did you know that Benki was also in Genpei Toumaden, Namco X Capcom and I think even reference in Gestu Fuuma Den. Very interesting wouldn't you agree?

As we know from the God of War franchise, Atlantis is or was right next to Kreta.
can you do refrences with japan in naruto?
I like megaman can you review the robot masters of megaman 4 5 7 to see what contrary they represent?
Can't say I've seen a link between purple and the dead in Japan! But it does seem to have the same role as red in the west when representing evil or dark powers!
i don't think purple means death here in america. -orange, on the other hand...-
Fayetteville is where my girlfriend is from! She even worked at that arcade!
...That's it. You convinced me to get this game for my growing NES collection. I got Mega Man 1 so why not Mega Man 6? E-BAY HOOOO!!!
The first upload was on the game theorist channel
Also bravo with the last one just bravo (clapping)
maaaayybbe mega man himself is a referance to benkei because he collects the weapons of the robot masters and benkei collects thee weapons of his fallen enemies
Thank you for adding Yamato man I love Japan ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺👍👍
Thank you for the episode, as you including my country (GREECE)
When he talked about the man who could produce the pills I thought of a Chinese legend about why they celebrate the moon festival. It’s a nice coincidence.
Gajin, the sword sound effect is misplaced for some reason.
I really want to play mega man 6. I have a wii and have the first 5 mega man games downloaded, but 6 is no longer in the store. I did heard it is downloadable on the Wii U virtual console store. I guess I gotta get a 3DS.

I thought it'll be awesome seeing Gaijin Goomba with Bowser dressing like Nobunaga ^_^
This was really good!(as if it could not be...) Keep doin' stuff, Gaijin Goomba.
***** is it me or does the helmet on Wind Man looks like a Chinese bowl?
BlackAceZero V2 thats the idea
also it's a bootleg of air man. china has no copyright laws.
I may be wrong but the symbols on wind man are Chinese thunder symbols
Benkei is in a ton of games, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Gengi, etc. :D
Windmans top of the head looks like an upside down soup bowl. The towers alook like bamboo.
Oh look a video, finally I have something to watch... I have so many subscriptions and none of them are making videos, I get bored...
No joke any time I hear Plato's name I think Play-doh. XD
Hey Gaijin- I know this is a bad place to put this, but did you hear about the Mega Kanto Starters? Since Blastoise is your favorite, what do you think about this development?
+Gaijin Goomba, And Origins Of Imortal Real Masters From States
