Yo @RickyTinez! For method two, there’s a setting you can disable that resets the arm when you double stop (panic). This is ace because then you don’t have to disarm your one shot trigs all the time. It’s in the personalize menu to disable stop-stop arm! Love ya brother!

The "annoying" way seems so much more usefull, since you don't want your stems to start with the tail of the previous pattern. Also it is almost the same as the live record setup, that for met is one of the main Octatrack features.

what's ricky up to here.. getting his head around octatrack functionality for a new release?? OctaTAKT? Seriously though, fantastic demo and inspiring too. Look forward to trying this process, allows you to have all your jams available in your DAW without having to individually record the tracks out, workflow improvement for sure!! Lastly.. Octatrack Mk3 should have ADAT ports - allowing you to increase the number of inputs and outputs. Then a dedicated Octa Accessory for Inputs and outputs. IMAGINE!!!

i usually have no clue whats going on in these videos, but enjoy watching them anyways, its really cool to see someone know their gear so well. i mostly make music 100% in the box but this is awesome

Cool method… i always fascinates me how Elektron was able to design whole Octa engine structure and feature set the way that people can find still new and new smart way how to utilise them, how to combine them in way which almost certainly didn come to the mind when they were Octatrack designing 😂 Really timeless device, absolute anomaly.

Только будет провалом, если они сделают oktatreck 3 и добавят только одну функцию over bridge

Not an octatrack user (love DT tho), but still learning.
This entire video touches upon the stuff i am running into: track stem loops or try to jam together an arrangement on hardware and track that in. Plus: include FX or add after tracking?
Example: you were struggling a bit with the delay on the vocal. You actually need 3 versions: a start loop (no delay over start), a middle loop (delay from previous loop carries over) and an endloop (tails).
When I build loops I don't know yet whether playing with the FX is going to be one of those elements that changes while the track progresses. Also, DT doesn't export the FX over overbridge (right?).
So this is my second dilemma: If I add a lot of FX (eg. trigger delay/reverb sends) i can't export and my tracked stems sound really different from what it sounded like on the hardware boxes.
    So, I see two options:
1: kind of build the track up in the boxes, jam, record. Maybe you leave all the filters open so you have something to play with.
Downside: you need to get most of the stuff right in one jam. (Not entirely, you can grab stem loops from the recording off course)
2: record loops only and arrange in DAW (the way you do it).
Downside: loops can't really change over time because it's a stem. All you can do is add fx, but all the stuff like playing with synth envelopes, random notes, transpositions etc. get lost in this process
Would be great to here you talk a bit abouta how your preference for method 2 came to be. Did the speed of that workflow have the upper hand, do you mindfully choose the repetitiveness of the loops over the option to let them evolve, is it related to genre, am I missing strong arguments, etc.

To streamline renaming your recordings, get Lupas Rename, you can have the program change a particular section of file name to something else. so you can get your date and time and change that to your song name and include bpm in a second.

  • @Cull_Obsidian

    That’s a really helpful technique!
I really wish you could copy and paste patterns/songs in transfer to make a live set out of things you’ve made in projects.
Otherwise you have to start jumping projects mid-set (or have multiple machines 😬)

It's crazy man, I can watch a Digitakt video and feel like I've learned something... every OT video I watch makes me feel more insecure about my ability to retain information... hahaahaa
I'm definitely getting something from Elektron this year, though. Actually between the OT and DT2 once I learn more about them both. Most likely DT2, though.
