I have tried many times to use the 3rd setting on the filling tube in the oil pan to refill it and then let it leak until it stops automatically and I have never been able to do that so this is why I have ended filling the same amount I gor out. Thanks 👍

I’ve seen all your videos on this 2020 GLE 350! Your helpful advice is amazing.😊 I too believe in doing these services early! Mercedes recommends maybe to late! I currently have 15,000 miles on my 2023 GLE 350. I want to do a drain and fill on transmission fluid, and another drain and fill with the pan replacement at 30,000 miles. Do think that’s a good option? I changed the front, rear differential’s and transfer case once a year. You’re right about changing those fluids early! Those fluids are worn and dirty! It seems those 3 fluids are barely a liter each…That’s why I change them sooner rather than later! I want to keep this vehicle as long as possible! Any suggestions would greatly appreciated! You can change the Transmission, Transfer Case and Differential Fluids now at 15k and then again at 30k and continue every 30k after no problem. Just make sure you change your Engine Oil every 5000 miles and no more! Also always use good Fluids/Oils so you minimize the wear and tear on the drivetrain. I do change the engine oil & filter (Mobil 1 5w30 Esp or Castrol 5w30 K) whichever is on sale, every 2,000-2,500 miles like clockwork! These turbo engines needs fresh oil all the time! I also rotate the tires every every 3 months as well. Could you do a coolant drain and fill someday? That to would be greatly appreciated!😊 Thanks for sharing your experience!
Hey! Thanks for you videos and replies, they are very helpful. Tomorrow I am having my transmission oil replaced, of course following your advice. My question is if no matter the ammount of oil that goes out, it always needs to be filled with 5 liters? (it is a 10 liters 725.0 transmission GLE43 AMG ) and the other question is if it is compulsory to reset the shifting adaptations? I dont know if the mechanic has the Xentry scan tool to do it or any other good scanner. I will tell him to keep the old oil as much as he can, but have you seen the old oil to get back in too often? It's recommended for you to reset the shifting adaptations yes. Try to find another place where they can do it. As far as the service just drive after the oil change and hopefully everything would be fine. Otherwise you would need to install the old one back in... Awesome Video!! I own a 2017 GLE 43AMG and I detected a transmisión fluid leak. My mechanic wants to replace transmission seal (the one that collides with the transfer case) The thing is that he will need to service the transmission and I bought 10 liters of Pentosin ATF 134 PLUS. Reading your previos advice I will tell my mechanic to just use 5 liters only, my question is if the two fluids will be compatible, since the one I bought is Pentosin 236.17 and the car should have MB 236.17 inside...Is it going to be a problem? There should be a bolt on the torque convertor to drain the fluid from inside as well..there is a rubbef plug uou need to remove and turn the crank shaft to get it to line up
Yes I know about the Torque Converter but according to Mercedes, the advice to only change the fluid in the transmission. The situation that I have seen in thw last 25 years is that you are not supposed to change the whole fluid because you can destroy the transmission doing this. The problem is the metal particles released from the clutches in the fluid which help the clutches to work with the proper pressure. I have actually seen myself other people doing this and the transmission would start slipping. Then they had to put the old fluid back and transmission started to run fine. So for this reason I never change the fluid completely. If you do these changes every 30k to 40k miles and you do this partial change your transmission will last you a very long time anyway. No point to mention to you that are Car Brands which don't even change their transmission fluids like BMW and Lexus and don't offer this service at the dealerships... Thanks anyway...
We have an electrical pump that we made at the shop and the adapters I don't even remember where we got them from honestly. But one thing you can buy where they should have these is a kit about this 9G Mercedes Transmission. It has same exact name - Service tool kit for Mercedes 9G transmissions. Try to buy a metal kit also instead of the plastic. They are on Ebay, Amazon and so forth, just google it. Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍

OK, just completed this procedure and need some advice. Took out about 4.5 quarts. Did not drain the TC. Replaced with about 5.5 quarts, Warmed up the engine, running, turned to drain pos 2 and had fluid draining. Decided to take it on a drive around the block to circulate the fluid through the gears. Put it back on the lift while running, and no fluid was draining in pos 3. Do I assume there's plenty of fluid in there?
I have had this situation with the draining and this is why I always install 5 Liters back and no need to check it. In order to technically check the level Mercedes requires you to use some kind of a special tool, which outside of Mercedes I am not sure who would have. I have not seen this tool anywhere. So that's why I add the half Liter to make it 5 Liters to be safe and that's what I install back. If you are not sure how much you drained you need to open the pan again and drain everything and then install back exactly 5 Liters or about 5 Quarts. Don't play with the positions of the drain plug because besides for draining and refill, the other settings don't work. Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞👍

Every Automatic Transmission will have a Torque Converter unless it's a semi-Automatic... This video does not drain the fluid in the Converter and Mercedes nor myself will recommend changing the whole fluid! If you go through the comments you will find my explanation what is the reasoning behind this partial change. Long story short - Flushing your transmission will extract the metal particles in your old fluid that help your clutches to work properly and this could cause your clucthes to start slipping with the new fluid and therefore you will end up destroying your transmission! Hi, I have MB C43 Amg 2018. It has 120k miles. Transmission fluid never changed. No mechanic is telling me it's risky to do the fluid change now. Is that true? Should I change it or keep it like that?
I can tell you for sure that you can try to do this partial 5 Liters service and test it. ABSOLUTELY NO FLUSHING YOU MUST TELL YOUR MECHANIC! Also make sure to tell your mechanic to keep your old fluid that comes out of your transmission for a few weeks at least! That old fluid will have the metal particles that are keeping your clutches running and keeping them from slipping! Keeping your old fluid is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in case the transmission starts slipping or acting up! I cannot tell you whether the transmission is going to go bad at this point but I have seen transmissions with no service done ever, blowing at less miles than yours! So at your milage you are pretty much taking a chance with this service... Again you can try but keep the old fluid for a little bit just in case! Also ask your mechanic to reset your Gear Shifting Adaptations if you do decide to do this service... Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍

@@projectathos ok thanks I just finished the fluid change when looking at the down pipe with the pan offI noticed in position 2 the lower portion is slightly open which would cause too much tranny fluid to drain when checking level In position 3 the bottom portion is closed and only the top portion was open so I added about 6.5L and when checking the level I put it to position 3 with engine running and warm a little more then one liter came out so the level check at position 3 did work for me
34:04 you can see the rubber plug in front the new pan..if you pull that out you will see the port to line up the bolt on the torque convertor after rotating the crankshaft
I will advice you to replace them as they are Aluminum and I had now 3 times crack on me because they are very very fragile! Mercedes recommends replacing them also! They just don't give you a chance to get them tight sometimes... Let me know if you have other questions... Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍
Aren’t you supposed to drain the excess oil at the end when you finished filling it with oil you but the drain at position 4 and wait for a weak flow ?
Yes as what all instructions say but when I did it the damn plastic tube didn't do it! I ended up putting extra 2 bottles and nothing came out so I decided to put whatever came out. I actually had a problem with this pan and we ended up replacing it with because it was leaking so there's a possibility that something was originally wrong with the pan... I just couldn't believe that a brand new Mercedes part was leaking at the end. So bw smart and use head and you can try to pumps some eaxtra oil but if it doesn't come then you know there's a problem. Always save your old oil for reference in case something like this happens... If you only get 5L out of this process, with 10L in the Trans, have you ever considered a 3-4x drain/refill without removing the pan? (Go for a short drive between fills to cycle the fluid) You only get about 3.5L out each time. This would replace most of the old fluid in the entire trans. You could then replace the pan in the final drain.
The reason why you see only 4.5L come out is because the rest is in the Valve Body above the oil pan and also inside the transmission and lastly in the Torque Converter. You are not supposed to replace the whole fluid in your transmission and I will give you my explanation here that I already posted earlier replying to another person here. This topic about changing the whole fluid out or "flushing" seems to be very controversial and I will try to explain my reasons here - the way transmissions work is very different from let's say the engines. In the Engine when you do an oil change you do indeed need to change the whole fluid! You are not supposed to leave any dirt particles because they can get in the galleries and destroy your bearings that work on microns of tolerance! Now with transmissions this is the opposite! I have rebuilt transmissions myself and have studied them before doing so. I also have enough knowledge which I always try to gather more by the way by studying everything I want to do in advance... So in your transmission you have so called packages or drums of clutches that are actually soaked in the transmission fluid. In order for those to start moving so that your car starts moving you need the fluid that creates the compression where the clutches are compressed against the metal plates between the clutches. There's also a partial friction physical law that happens so that those clutches start moving. So what I have seen through the years is that if you do not do your regular maintenance of changing this fluid in your transmission the clutches will still work but the fluid because it gets burnt by the friction of the clutches will start destroying the transmission and technically burning the clutches. Then you would say yes this is the case where you need to always replace the whole fluid so that it's fresh and it doesn't burn the clutches. But there is another situation happening at the same time while the transmission is working. Your clutches release very fine particles into the fluid and those particles actually help the clutches to work the way they're supposed to work. What I have seen when people replaced or flushed the whole transmission they actually ended up taking out those foreign particles and therefore leaving a bigger gap between the clutches. Next thing that you can guess is they started burning their clutches because of the gap and the new transmission fluid which doesn't have the power to fill those gaps. I would say that you may flush a transmission anywhere in the range of up to 50,000 miles because the clutches are still new and the new fluid will not damage them. Meanwhile if you actually change partially your fluid every 30 to 40,000 Miles you would be able to get a very prolonged life expectancy of your transmission! Remember your transmission is not made to last forever! Those clutches are made to wear out no matter what! All the cars that we have owned and I have done the partial service have lasted up to 300,000 miles with no problem! Meanwhile I have seen multiple times on customers vehicles when someone replaced their complete fluid and the transmission started slipping immediately! I even know a friend who did this full flush service on a couple different Brands of cars he had just bought against my advice and ended up burning up both transmissions! He had to get rid of those cars very fast! This is why we always keep the old fluids for a little bit longer after we do the service to make sure that we don't have a bad reaction from the clutches so that we need to install the old fluid back in to make the transmission run back normally. At that point you are only going to prolong the inevitable anyway! This is my experience from what I have seen and have done this many times and this is why I'm sharing this information and this is why I do the service the way I do it. I cannot vouch for what anybody else will tell you and why they will claim that their way is the best thing to do. Unfortunately Mercedes does not explain this information to you nor any other company for that matter! Not to mention that on other German brands the transmission fluid is not supposed to be replaced according to those same manufacturers... Thanks and Good Luck! 👍
Technically it shouldn't when it's closed as the mechanism in internal pipe wouldn't allow it. Unless you overfilled it too much maybe then it will drip some very very tiny amounts... Then you will know that it was overfilled. Thanks for your support! 🤞💪👍
Normally the diffs and transfer case services are around 50k to 60k miles but we started opening these at 40k and we see bad wear and messed up fluids. So we recommend changing these fluids with the transmission service now. It also makes a bug difference if you tow then I believe you need to change them at 30k. Imagine the amount at the diffs is only between 600Ml to 1L and this is a very small amount to expect to last a long time... Thanks 👍🙏
It's supposed to drain in position 3 for fast draining and position 2 for slow but no matter how many times I have tried these they never worked! 😞 This is why you need to install what you got out and that is about 5 Liters. I like the tutorial but judging an oil by its color is not really how science works. Even at 10k miles the oil will look like that. It’s only when the oil is no longer able to maintain its designed viscosity that you could say it’s in bad shape. If this car was towing above its specified limits then you would get more transmission + oil wear. There is no way to determine that by eye, you need an oil analysis.
This is why these services need to be done by the recommended Miles usage frame by the manufacturer. If you are towing you may have to go down to 15 or 20k miles. Normally transmission service should be done at 40k on these but lately I have seen Mercedes recommending it even down at 30k miles. Normal people don't have the time to investigate this scientifically and this is why this needs to be appropriately to the conditions of driving. About the color of the fluid - actually in a lot of cases an experienced mechanic can tell how bad the fluid is especially when it's taken out and then you can see the metal particles inside! And trust me I will be able to tell you what's going by the size of those metal particles... Thanks 💪👍
In a transmission, if the oil is dark after 10k miles, it's a bad transmission. Transmission fluid keeps the " color " for long. It's not like in the engine, and the oil gets in no time dark ( for diesel engines, after the first start ) For petrol engines it's nearly just the same as the ATF, only after a while it gets dark!
From my experience and also the shared experiences of other mechanics that I know you are NOT supposed to flush transmissions when changing the fluid. I have done a flushing ONLY ONE time in my life and this was after a rebuilt transmission that I did myself and after the initial fill up I needed to clean the interior just in case and then I flushed the fluid several times. Again this was a transmission where I changed all parts inside. Afterwards I started the recommended only 30% of the fluid. This has been the case with all transmissions so far. Maybe if transmission is faily new you could do it but I don't see the point of doing it. After this a complete flush may destroy your transmission! Just follow the instructions from the manufacturer. But if includes flushing of the torque converter do not do it! I have seen multiple times how transmissions burns the clutches after a complete flush and a good mechanic from a reputable shop should know this! So absolutely NO on the flush. Normally about 30% of the fluid is replaced when doing the service and that's completely fine as long as it's done on the 30k to 40k miles intervals. It dosnt matter if the previous owner have done it mabybe before me for example my car now has 66 k miles, and the previous owner have done ti at 40k milies ,but i dont have history i dont know that ,does have any problem or no problem at all ?
That's the wildest thing I have ever heard! 😂🤣 Why would you need go remove the transmission to drop the pan?! That's ridiculous... I believe this was a GLE350 but even the 450 with 6 Inline engine is very similar to the 43 and 53 and you can do this procedure as what I did if you follow it correctly. I believe the correct method of measuring the correct fluid level is to hook up a scan tool and wait until the ATF temp. gets to 39 degrees Celsius. Be sure to check with the oil measuring tube in position #3.
The temperature is not the issue. Plus you will never get it to be in perfect 39C. Never... The Fluid Check position of the adusting "tower valve" is #2 per Mercedes! Position 3 serves no purpose and you can see it yourself in the video. Mercedes says that small quantity should leak in Position 2 if it's overfilled. Problem is that I have tried multiple times on multiple vehicle this process and it never worked because it ends up leaking much more and it mever stops. Mercedes is suggesting to use some kind of a special like a radar something tool but I don't believe the outside independent shops can get access to this tool. Thanks 👍
I have ml350 2013 bluetec with 88000 miles, lately while driving the car didnt shift in second gear i had to stop the car and and than start driving and than it shifted good, its the second time that is happening now. Sometimes it shifts harder. Do you think its good idea to change the transmition fluid? Thanks
Something is definitely going on with your transmission and you need to go to a shop so they can scan your car and see if you have any codes from the transmission module first. Then you would definitely need to partially change that fluid anyway... Thanks 👍

I am not sure why sites like FCP Euro and forgot the other one are offering 10L kits when Mercedes only recommends replacing partially the transmission fluid. Actually this is recommended on any other car's transmission and the reason is very simple - if you replace the whole fluid you will destroy your transmission prematurely! The main reason is the metal particles that are released from the clutch materials. They actually keep the extremely small tolerances between the clitches tight and enclosed so they can keep working properly. If you try to flush your transmission so you can install the 10L back you will end up destroying your transmission! This is why you should not replace the whole amount of fluid in your transmission. 5L is what comes out when you open the oil pan and this is fine to be replaced. But taking the rest which is in the torque converter and you may end up with a slipping transmission! I have actually seen this multiple times. So I hope I answered your question. Actually these days some companies like Toyota/Lexus , BMW and others do not even offer transmission service on their vehicles... You can measure it with a laser temperature gadget but most of the time these transmissions get hot pretty quickly and 40 Celsius is pretty low for them anyway. Since you are putting the same amount that came out there would be no point to measure the temperature anyway... Thanks 👍

Hi, it does take around an Hour and a half to 2 hours actually. Remember I didn't show the cleaning part of the video that it takes like 30 min to be done properly. Also there are programs that shops use to get the labor hours for certain procedures and 2 seems to be close to what this should be. I would say that 2 Hours is actually less than the normal Labor Hour charge for this service as it could be more sometimes depending on the procedure. The problem is the markup on the parts prices and crazy high rates for labor at the Stealership! You do have to change the Oil Pan that is around $300 to 400 but probably ar $600 at the Stealership. You should be normally charged around $700 to 900 worst case scenario on this service. Thanks👍

Yes I have tried this many times and it doesn't work! The fluid leaking out ends much more than what came out which is impossible to have auch a difference! Last time I let like 3 Liters out and it kept on going so now I just ignore it and install around 5 Liters. Thanks 👍

If you watch the whole video you are going to see that the oil filter is built in within the oil pan. Secondly - the oil pan being plastic and having that small seal in the edge if it's not replaced on time will start leaking anyway... Thanks! 💪👍

No flush sorry! Not recommended by Mercedes! I will never flush unless you want to destroy your transmission! Especially if you have some miles already if you flush you will loose the small clutch material particles that make your clutches engage which equals to - burning your clutches with the new fluid! This is not a myth and I have seen this with my own eyes! This is just the way transmissions work my friend. I also rebuild transmissions sometimes and I know how they work so hence my understanding of the whole mechanism of fluid, gear, clutches and so forth... What a bozo.... This fluid did not need to be changed, it hasnt reached even half life, recommendation on this oil is 75000 miles, why are you ripping people off?
Well, first of all Mercedes recommends this fluid to be changed at 30k and it used to be 40k before! Secondly you can drive your car till 75k miles and then if you start slipping and trash your transmission, don't come crying and ask me what happened! You know how I know?! Because I have seen this more times than you can count the hairs on your legs! So your choices - your consequences but don't come attacking me for helping people understand and prevent their cars from being famaged prematurely! Which is exactly what the Stealerships want you to do so you can buy another car and fill their bank accounts! Anyway Good Luck to you my friend! Awesome Video!! I own a 2017 GLE 43AMG and I detected a transmisión fluid leak. My mechanic wants to replace transmission seal (the one that collides with the transfer case) The thing is that he will need to service the transmission and I bought 10 liters of Pentosin ATF 134 PLUS. Reading your previos advice I will tell my mechanic to just use 5 liters only, my question is if the two fluids will be compatible, since the one I bought is Pentosin 236.17 and the car should have MB 236.17 inside...Is it going to be a problem? There should be a bolt on the torque convertor to drain the fluid from inside as well..there is a rubbef plug uou need to remove and turn the crank shaft to get it to line up
Yes I know about the Torque Converter but according to Mercedes, the advice to only change the fluid in the transmission. The situation that I have seen in thw last 25 years is that you are not supposed to change the whole fluid because you can destroy the transmission doing this. The problem is the metal particles released from the clutches in the fluid which help the clutches to work with the proper pressure. I have actually seen myself other people doing this and the transmission would start slipping. Then they had to put the old fluid back and transmission started to run fine. So for this reason I never change the fluid completely. If you do these changes every 30k to 40k miles and you do this partial change your transmission will last you a very long time anyway. No point to mention to you that are Car Brands which don't even change their transmission fluids like BMW and Lexus and don't offer this service at the dealerships... Thanks anyway...

We have an electrical pump that we made at the shop and the adapters I don't even remember where we got them from honestly. But one thing you can buy where they should have these is a kit about this 9G Mercedes Transmission. It has same exact name - Service tool kit for Mercedes 9G transmissions. Try to buy a metal kit also instead of the plastic. They are on Ebay, Amazon and so forth, just google it. Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍

OK, just completed this procedure and need some advice. Took out about 4.5 quarts. Did not drain the TC. Replaced with about 5.5 quarts, Warmed up the engine, running, turned to drain pos 2 and had fluid draining. Decided to take it on a drive around the block to circulate the fluid through the gears. Put it back on the lift while running, and no fluid was draining in pos 3. Do I assume there's plenty of fluid in there?
I have had this situation with the draining and this is why I always install 5 Liters back and no need to check it. In order to technically check the level Mercedes requires you to use some kind of a special tool, which outside of Mercedes I am not sure who would have. I have not seen this tool anywhere. So that's why I add the half Liter to make it 5 Liters to be safe and that's what I install back. If you are not sure how much you drained you need to open the pan again and drain everything and then install back exactly 5 Liters or about 5 Quarts. Don't play with the positions of the drain plug because besides for draining and refill, the other settings don't work. Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞👍

Every Automatic Transmission will have a Torque Converter unless it's a semi-Automatic... This video does not drain the fluid in the Converter and Mercedes nor myself will recommend changing the whole fluid! If you go through the comments you will find my explanation what is the reasoning behind this partial change. Long story short - Flushing your transmission will extract the metal particles in your old fluid that help your clutches to work properly and this could cause your clucthes to start slipping with the new fluid and therefore you will end up destroying your transmission! I have MB C43 Amg 2018. It has 120k miles. Transmission fluid never changed. No mechanic is telling me it's risky to do the fluid change now. Is that true? Should I change it or keep it like that?
I can tell you for sure that you can try to do this partial 5 Liters service and test it. ABSOLUTELY NO FLUSHING YOU MUST TELL YOUR MECHANIC! Also make sure to tell your mechanic to keep your old fluid that comes out of your transmission for a few weeks at least! That old fluid will have the metal particles that are keeping your clutches running and keeping them from slipping! Keeping your old fluid is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in case the transmission starts slipping or acting up! I cannot tell you whether the transmission is going to go bad at this point but I have seen transmissions with no service done ever, blowing at less miles than yours! So at your milage you are pretty much taking a chance with this service... Again you can try but keep the old fluid for a little bit just in case! Also ask your mechanic to reset your Gear Shifting Adaptations if you do decide to do this service... Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍

@@projectathos ok thanks I just finished the fluid change when looking at the down pipe with the pan offI noticed in position 2 the lower portion is slightly open which would cause too much tranny fluid to drain when checking level In position 3 the bottom portion is closed and only the top portion was open so I added about 6.5L and when checking the level I put it to position 3 with engine running and warm a little more then one liter came out so the level check at position 3 did work for me
34:04 you can see the rubber plug in front the new pan..if you pull that out you will see the port to line up the bolt on the torque convertor after rotating the crankshaft

I will advice you to replace them as they are Aluminum and I had now 3 times crack on me because they are very very fragile! Mercedes recommends replacing them also! They just don't give you a chance to get them tight sometimes... Let me know if you have other questions... Thanks and Good Luck! 🤞💪👍
Aren’t you supposed to drain the excess oil at the end when you finished filling it with oil you but the drain at position 4 and wait for a weak flow ?
Yes as what all instructions say but when I did it the damn plastic tube didn't do it! I ended up putting extra 2 bottles and nothing came out so I decided to put whatever came out. I actually had a problem with this pan and we ended up replacing it with because it was leaking so there's a possibility that something was originally wrong with the pan... I just couldn't believe that a brand new Mercedes part was leaking at the end. So bw smart and use head and you can try to pumps some eaxtra oil but if it doesn't come then you know there's a problem. Always save your old oil for reference in case something like this happens... You can do a full drain and refill with the same volume if you empty the torque convertor.. the drain pan bolts are 89in lbs and 90 degrees
If you only get 5L out of this process, with 10L in the Trans, have you ever considered a 3-4x drain/refill without removing the pan? (Go for a short drive between fills to cycle the fluid) You only get about 3.5L out each time. This would replace most of the old fluid in the entire trans. You could then replace the pan in the final drain.
The reason why you see only 4.5L come out is because the rest is in the Valve Body above the oil pan and also inside the transmission and lastly in the Torque Converter. You are not supposed to replace the whole fluid in your transmission and I will give you my explanation here that I already posted earlier replying to another person here.
This topic about changing the whole fluid out or "flushing" seems to be very controversial and I will try to explain my reasons here - the way transmissions work is very different from let's say the engines. In the Engine when you do an oil change you do indeed need to change the whole fluid! You are not supposed to leave any dirt particles because they can get in the galleries and destroy your bearings that work on microns of tolerance!
Now with transmissions this is the opposite! I have rebuilt transmissions myself and have studied them before doing so. I also have enough knowledge which I always try to gather more by the way by studying everything I want to do in advance... So in your transmission you have so called packages or drums of clutches that are actually soaked in the transmission fluid. In order for those to start moving so that your car starts moving you need the fluid that creates the compression where the clutches are compressed against the metal plates between the clutches. There's also a partial friction physical law that happens so that those clutches start moving. So what I have seen through the years is that if you do not do your regular maintenance of changing this fluid in your transmission the clutches will still work but the fluid because it gets burnt by the friction of the clutches will start destroying the transmission and technically burning the clutches. Then you would say yes this is the case where you need to always replace the whole fluid so that it's fresh and it doesn't burn the clutches. But there is another situation happening at the same time while the transmission is working. Your clutches release very fine particles into the fluid and those particles actually help the clutches to work the way they're supposed to work. What I have seen when people replaced or flushed the whole transmission they actually ended up taking out those foreign particles and therefore leaving a bigger gap between the clutches. Next thing that you can guess is they started burning their clutches because of the gap and the new transmission fluid which doesn't have the power to fill those gaps. I would say that you may flush a transmission anywhere in the range of up to 50,000 miles because the clutches are still new and the new fluid will not damage them. Meanwhile if you actually change partially your fluid every 30 to 40,000 Miles you would be able to get a very prolonged life expectancy of your transmission! Remember your transmission is not made to last forever! Those clutches are made to wear out no matter what! All the cars that we have owned and I have done the partial service have lasted up to 300,000 miles with no problem! Meanwhile I have seen multiple times on customers vehicles when someone replaced their complete fluid and the transmission started slipping immediately! I even know a friend who did this full flush service on a couple different Brands of cars he had just bought against my advice and ended up burning up both transmissions! He had to get rid of those cars very fast! This is why we always keep the old fluids for a little bit longer after we do the service to make sure that we don't have a bad reaction from the clutches so that we need to install the old fluid back in to make the transmission run back normally. At that point you are only going to prolong the inevitable anyway! This is my experience from what I have seen and have done this many times and this is why I'm sharing this information and this is why I do the service the way I do it. I cannot vouch for what anybody else will tell you and why they will claim that their way is the best thing to do. Unfortunately Mercedes does not explain this information to you nor any other company for that matter! Not to mention that on other German brands the transmission fluid is not supposed to be replaced according to those same manufacturers... Thanks and Good Luck! 👍

Technically it shouldn't when it's closed as the mechanism in internal pipe wouldn't allow it. Unless you overfilled it too much maybe then it will drip some very very tiny amounts... Then you will know that it was overfilled. Thanks for your support! 🤞💪👍
When you do your transmission change you are also doing your transfer case? Or is that separate maintenance?
Normally the diffs and transfer case services are around 50k to 60k miles but we started opening these at 40k and we see bad wear and messed up fluids. So we recommend changing these fluids with the transmission service now. It also makes a bug difference if you tow then I believe you need to change them at 30k. Imagine the amount at the diffs is only between 600Ml to 1L and this is a very small amount to expect to last a long time... Thanks 👍🙏

It's supposed to drain in position 3 for fast draining and position 2 for slow but no matter how many times I have tried these they never worked! 😞 This is why you need to install what you got out and that is about 5 Liters. I like the tutorial but judging an oil by its color is not really how science works. Even at 10k miles the oil will look like that. It’s only when the oil is no longer able to maintain its designed viscosity that you could say it’s in bad shape. If this car was towing above its specified limits then you would get more transmission + oil wear. There is no way to determine that by eye, you need an oil analysis.
This is why these services need to be done by the recommended Miles usage frame by the manufacturer. If you are towing you may have to go down to 15 or 20k miles. Normally transmission service should be done at 40k on these but lately I have seen Mercedes recommending it even down at 30k miles. Normal people don't have the time to investigate this scientifically and this is why this needs to be appropriately to the conditions of driving. About the color of the fluid - actually in a lot of cases an experienced mechanic can tell how bad the fluid is especially when it's taken out and then you can see the metal particles inside! And trust me I will be able to tell you what's going by the size of those metal particles... Thanks 💪👍
In a transmission, if the oil is dark after 10k miles, it's a bad transmission.
Transmission fluid keeps the " color " for long.
It's not like in the engine, and the oil gets in no time dark ( for diesel engines, after the first start )
For petrol engines it's nearly just the same as the ATF, only after a while it gets dark!

From my experience and also the shared experiences of other mechanics that I know you are NOT supposed to flush transmissions when changing the fluid. I have done a flushing ONLY ONE time in my life and this was after a rebuilt transmission that I did myself and after the initial fill up I needed to clean the interior just in case and then I flushed the fluid several times. Again this was a transmission where I changed all parts inside. Afterwards I started the recommended only 30% of the fluid. This has been the case with all transmissions so far. Maybe if transmission is faily new you could do it but I don't see the point of doing it. After this a complete flush may destroy your transmission! Just follow the instructions from the manufacturer. But if includes flushing of the torque converter do not do it! I have seen multiple times how transmissions burns the clutches after a complete flush and a good mechanic from a reputable shop should know this! So absolutely NO on the flush. Normally about 30% of the fluid is replaced when doing the service and that's completely fine as long as it's done on the 30k to 40k miles intervals. That's the wildest thing I have ever heard! 😂🤣 Why would you need go remove the transmission to drop the pan?! That's ridiculous... I believe this was a GLE350 but even the 450 with 6 Inline engine is very similar to the 43 and 53 and you can do this procedure as what I did if you follow it correctly. I believe the correct method of measuring the correct fluid level is to hook up a scan tool and wait until the ATF temp. gets to 39 degrees Celsius. Be sure to check with the oil measuring tube in position #3.
The temperature is not the issue. Plus you will never get it to be in perfect 39C. Never... The Fluid Check position of the adusting "tower valve" is #2 per Mercedes! Position 3 serves no purpose and you can see it yourself in the video. Mercedes says that small quantity should leak in Position 2 if it's overfilled. Problem is that I have tried multiple times on multiple vehicle this process and it never worked because it ends up leaking much more and it mever stops. Mercedes is suggesting to use some kind of a special like a radar something tool but I don't believe the outside independent shops can get access to this tool. Thanks 👍

I have ml350 2013 bluetec with 88000 miles, lately while driving the car didnt shift in second gear i had to stop the car and and than start driving and than it shifted good, its the second time that is happening now. Sometimes it shifts harder. Do you think its good idea to change the transmition fluid? Thanks
Something is definitely going on with your transmission and you need to go to a shop so they can scan your car and see if you have any codes from the transmission module first. Then you would definitely need to partially change that fluid anyway... Thanks 👍

I am not sure why sites like FCP Euro and forgot the other one are offering 10L kits when Mercedes only recommends replacing partially the transmission fluid. Actually this is recommended on any other car's transmission and the reason is very simple - if you replace the whole fluid you will destroy your transmission prematurely! The main reason is the metal particles that are released from the clutch materials. They actually keep the extremely small tolerances between the clitches tight and enclosed so they can keep working properly. If you try to flush your transmission so you can install the 10L back you will end up destroying your transmission! This is why you should not replace the whole amount of fluid in your
transmission. 5L is what comes out when you open the oil pan and this is fine to be replaced. But taking the rest which is in the torque converter and you may end up with a slipping transmission! I have actually seen this multiple times. So I hope I answered your question. Actually these days some companies like Toyota/Lexus , BMW and others do not even offer transmission service on their vehicles... How did you check that the fluid temperature reached 40 degrees C or is this not as important?
You can measure it with a laser temperature gadget but most of the time these transmissions get hot pretty quickly and 40 Celsius is pretty low for them anyway. Since you are putting the same amount that came out there would be no point to measure the temperature anyway... Thanks 👍

why is my dealership trying to charge me 1300 and stateing its 2 hours worth of work when you did it in 40 min
Hi, it does take around an Hour and a half to 2 hours actually. Remember I didn't show the cleaning part of the video that it takes like 30 min to be done properly. Also there are programs that shops use to get the labor hours for certain procedures and 2 seems to be close to what this should be. I would say that 2 Hours is actually less than the normal Labor Hour charge for this service as it could be more sometimes depending on the procedure. The problem is the markup on the parts prices and crazy high rates for labor at the Stealership! You do have to change the Oil Pan that is around $300 to 400 but probably ar $600 at the Stealership. You should be normally charged around $700 to 900 worst case scenario on this service. Thanks👍

Yes I have tried this many times and it doesn't work! The fluid leaking out ends much more than what came out which is impossible to have auch a difference! Last time I let like 3 Liters out and it kept on going so now I just ignore it and install around 5 Liters. Thanks 👍

Why do you need an entirely new pan?
If you watch the whole video you are going to see that the oil filter is built in within the oil pan. Secondly - the oil pan being plastic and having that small seal in the edge if it's not replaced on time will start leaking anyway... Thanks! 💪👍

No flush sorry! Not recommended by Mercedes! I will never flush unless you want to destroy your transmission! Especially if you have some miles already if you flush you will loose the small clutch material particles that make your clutches engage which equals to - burning your clutches with the new fluid! This is not a myth and I have seen this with my own eyes! This is just the way transmissions work my friend. I also rebuild transmissions sometimes and I know how they work so hence my understanding of the whole mechanism of fluid, gear, clutches and so forth... So only partial change but done on time is what you need. Thanks and Good Luck 🤞👍
What a bozo.... This fluid did not need to be changed, it hasnt reached even half life, recommendation on this oil is 75000 miles, why are you ripping people off?
Well, first of all Mercedes recommends this fluid to be changed at 30k and it used to be 40k before! Secondly you can drive your car till 75k miles and then if you start slipping and trash your transmission, don't come crying and ask me what happened! You know how I know?! Because I have seen this more times than you can count the hairs on your legs! So your choices - your consequences but don't come attacking me for helping people understand and prevent their cars from being famaged prematurely! Which is exactly what the Stealerships want you to do so you can buy another car and fill their bank accounts! Anyway Good Luck to you my friend!
