Note for install: I'm not sure if there is a different version of the R600 intake now, but the top cover should be installed on top and not under the two front, side screw loctions. If you look from the side of the R600 scoop, you can see that it is cut out and is designed to wedge around the from mounting area. Installing the intake with the top cover off makes it super simple and slips underneath the factory mounts without a problem. The top cover then simply rests right on top and you don't have to shove it under the tabs. I had it mounted just like the video originally and noticed the scoop area seemed too low, and it was a bit more difficult to install because it was pushing the entire box slightly down at the front. After checking some other videos and pictures online, I noticed that the tabs were on top in about half of the install. That being said, the turbo noises and whoosh with this thing are awesome! Thanks ShopDAP!
I really wonder about the dyno difference between this and just popping out the snow / leaf shield in the bottom of the stock airbox and running a BMC filter.
Just installed on my 2017 fits, doesn't contact the coolant line like the unitronic did. Inlet temps are cooler than stock intake around 10 degrees above ambient. Looks factory too. Reading temps on my P3 gauge, love that too
I highly recommend you buy the Spulen coolant hose to replace the stock hose. This allows for the R600 to mount more easily since the Spulen hose can be installed underneath the R600 housing.
Can't believe how expensive these are. I used to have a ramair intake on my GTI and it sounded awesome. Ramair don't make one for the EA888 gen3.b intake so ile probably go for the R600
@@juelz4516 it’s good but I still don’t think it made enough difference for the cost of it. My stage 2 car didn’t make any extra power on the dyno with it. Overall I should have saved money and stuck with the panel filter but I fell for the hype.
These are aces. So simple to install and throw in a larger turbo intake and the response and drive is drastically improved. My Golf R was flashing the traction control light today in 2nd gear after fitting this. On top of a stage1 tune it's awesome! Highly recommend. Sounds great too.
It plugs into the airbox just like the factory so you don't need a secondary filter for it APR and others just do that so they can get more money out of you and make you buy additional parts

Wow, this is by far the most pain in the ass intake install I've seen on any gti/golf r/r32 since mk2's. Factory intake is not the bottle neck. I'd say do an intake of u want more sound but otherwise, from a performance aspect, it's just doing much.

Moo Shee wait a while I have a 2015 GTI and the first year I had a couple issues with the Evap system and oil pressure censors. that was replaced for free by VW. If you don't care about the Warranty than go ahead.
Now I see why there is a coolant bypass hose that would drive me nuts that stupid hose over the top 😂 install would be much easier without it too I'm guessing. Good video thanks 😊
and at 6:51 you know that foam filter will be falling apart into your turbo intake after 24 months as did mine. Only issue with this system is that crappy foam filter. NOT DESIGNED TO LAST
the 2020 Model now is available with a new designed cloth like filter (K&N style), still not cheap in pricing but finally a good filter without the risk of damaging the engine.

None And there will be little to no sound out of it due to the closed box style Air being carried towards the turbo (hot or "cold") won't matter because the turbo will heat it up due to rpms and using exhaust fumes If what you want is a boost in power due to cold air invest in an intercooler don't waste your time or money on an intake

Here in germany many tuners did a comparison and few dyno runs with and without the r600 or hf series 3 intake. U can get 5-18hp more , depends on your engine. And +10nm So yes, it gives your car more cold air to breathe and more hp. I recommend to install a turbo inlet and outlet too, so you get 30hp more just with hardware. Trust me , its no bullshit.

I wish I bought this version instead of the cup version, looks much cleaner. The old cup intake does still create some kind of seal with the insulation on the hood pushing on the heat shield. This just looks better.

I noticed the unitronic intake utilizes the stock air inlet plastic piece by the grill, is that not restrictive compared to other intakes that take that part out or replace it?

Notice how there are slats above the grill for the air to come into the air box on the passenger side but they are not on the other side. I drilled 25 holes on the other side to let more air from the grill in. This intake has intake vents on both sides. It would seem that the ones on the drivers side will get no air without doing something like this....what do you think?

I just purchased one, and nowhere did I see mention of the need to drill a 40mm hole to attach the secondary air filter to the intake... not on shopdap, usp, urotuning, ecs, or racingline themselves. I notice the metal SAI is already drilled in as shown in your video, Paul. Do y'all ship these with that work complete? Or did you do that step before this DIY video and forget to mention this?
Wanna do an intake on my mk7.5 GTI, but just not completely convinced it'll add anything aside from the DV whoosh. And they're crazy overpriced. Thought my old carbonio intake on my old 20valve was expensive. These new ones are just ridiculous.

What does this intake offer more than the stock intake? More air flow? An aFe high flow drop in filter can yield the same results right?

A foam panel filter in the standard airbox will do the same job for 10% of the cost of this.
foam filters are bad, just get a KN one.

why does the secondary air intake not have a filter? where is that air going?
It plugs into the airbox just like the factory so you don't need a secondary filter for it APR and others just do that so they can get more money out of you and make you buy additional parts

What purpose does the vacuum line next to the SAI serve? Is it strictly a vent for the vacuum solenoid or....?

There is a reason why VW designed the air inlet and box as separate items. The fit and finish of the R600 is well below OEM standard.

Those are all quality brands that will likely get similar results. We offer the Unitronic and Racingline versions though ; )
