Watching every video of yours is helping me to climb the learning curve😊. BTW, I am enjoying the mixing of my first ever song recorded at home. Yesterday when a Brother came to visit, I played the yet unfinished mix and he liked it very much: said the mix was CLEAN! Thanks Colin, without your wonderful tutorials I would not have been able to progress quickly and surely!
By the way....thanks for the opportunity to get my song mixed....just really busy now that I have had my 2 shots....it is really appreciated...next time
Hello Collin, I emailed you a few months ago about hard panning/slight panning and how or when it should be done. Thank you for the quick reply. Obviously this video sheds a better understanding on how to do that when using mono/stereo tracks. Keep up the great work and please keep pumping out these tutorials whenever possible.
I download separate tracks from "karaoke Version" into GarageBand. To create mono tracks from each stem, would this do the job? Im attempting to export them so I can pan the tracks to have a click track for my IEM's..Thanks for your informative vid's...
COLIN! I just exported multi tracks to an old pro who’s mixing/mastering a song for me, and he said I dumped everything out as stereo tracks, when they were more like mono sources (guitar, vox, trombone). How do I export a track as mono?
Great question, Afi! Yes and no. The Logic pan knob defaults the same but if you right click (or hold control and click) on a pan knob you can switch it to "Stereo Pan," which will fix this issue!
Hey Colin, I have a huge library of midi drums and I'm wondering if there's an easy way to import them as apple loops (You have to do this 1 by 1 I think?), or if there's an easy with to audition the midi files inside GB. I know you can use VLC player, but it obviously sounds awful. I've been trying so hard to find a way to quickly audition them with a good sounding kit, but so far have no luck.
Little too fast lol.. where is the tab to change to mono?.. also is it possible to record from the get go in mono? The old version you can but newer through my Scarlett 2i2 just says input one or 2 or 1&2.. irritating
I'm having a problem because I record something with my Onyx interface and it automatically pans things to the left even if the panning is centered at 0 and Idk why.
Hey Vanessa! You likely have your recording set to Stereo "Input 1&2" If you change it to just Input 1, it will fix this! Hit "B" on your keyboard to bring up the smart control window then it's in the top left of that little window that pops up from the bottom of your screen. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the great content! Do you have any suggestions for sound bleed when panning? I'm panning click and cues hard left and tracks hard right for live performance, click/cues for musicians only, Tracks for house. Click and tracks are dry but still getting detectable bleed in tracks. Thanks in advance
How are you sending your panning out? Just from a headphone jack on the computer/iPad/phone? I used to have issues with this when I went out the headphone jack but switching to an interface (even a budget one) with dedicated left and right output fixed it for me!
@@TheBandGuide Thanks for the reply. I hard pan all tracks for house to the right and click/cues to the left in GarageBand then share file to desktop and run through iTunes. I run a 1/4 inch from MAC to a direct box with splitter sending tracks to house and click/cues to in-ear monitor.
So does anybody know how to get a Pingpong echo effect knob or replicate this Pingpong effect I saw in a different DAW? The guy literally pressed one button and made his hi hat sound amazing but I can’t do it
@@TheBandGuide THANK YOU BABEEEE! I tried to use an echo plug-in that was a little more intense than just sliding the echo bar over in the basic plug-in menu and actually ended up with a really cool effect! It’s so fun to discover something in garage band that makes a difference in the way you continue to use the program. Thanks for the help dude! I won’t try to bombard you with questions on all of your videos for the foreseeable future, but I might have questions that won’t match the video, or have a request! I’m not sure if you mess with house music but I’m trying to make some baselines, and I can’t seem to find a way to get the sound to cut through the rest of the track without it making the other instruments fade out as I adjust the Db in the visual EQ Plug-in. Sorry my message here is really scrambled as well, you’d think I did a lot worse in English classes growing up with the way I type 😅
@@TheBandGuide I see you have a lot of helpful videos up that could answer a lot of questions I’ve been having so I’ll make sure to check them all out, thanks again dude!

Yes! I've noticed that when I hard pan, the sound seemed lacking and I wasn't sure how to fix it or what was wrong. Here's the answer! Thanks Colin!
Great catch! I hope this helps!
I've been going crazy wondering why my beats sounded off when I mixed them, thank you 🔥
🙌 Happy to help!

Excellent tips! Pretty soon you’re going outgrow “The Band Guide” and be the “Recording Arts and Sciences via Band Guide”
Now that's a name! Might have to consider it... 🤔
Thanks Colin. By a MILE the most complete Garageband advice and knowledge.
🙏🏼 Thank YOU, Mark!
Fantastic! found this "hidden information" very helpful. thanks for posting!
Aha often wondered what the direction mixer was all about, more good tips, thanks Colin
You're welcome!
Excellent tip. Thank you!
Hey you're welcome!

Completely understand! Congrats on your second shot!
Did not know this about the pan knob! Now I know why sounds were missing! Thanks Colin!🤔
None of my tracks pan to the right. How do I fix this. Even keyboard parts I recorded using the keypad. What am I doing wrong

Thanks, Patrick!
Anyone can help please…
Why panning is not working on my garage band,
When I move right to left nothing is happening
I hear no diferente
I came looking for a solution to this problem - thank you - I didn’t know about this.
this was SO HELPFUL!!! THANK YOU!!!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Great video. I didn't know about the Direction Mixer.
It’s a great tool in the right situation!
Colin, Here’s another tip that came at the perfect time. I’m using the Stadium Spread for some guitar stuff and might just be what I was looking for!
Awesome! We're in sync!
man great catch colin! Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Dan!
Thank you Colin, good to know panning piano means losing some of it. Noted!
Great video man! Really helpful channel!
Appreciate it!

Colin on your very first example the guitar when it was panned to the right it disappeared.
Any ideas what is wrong?
very helpful!

Does it work with Logic as well?

How did you get two guitar tracks on one track?

Very easy! Just add a stereo delay plugin. Ping pong just means the rhythms of the delay bounce back and forth between the left and right ear
