    In order for you to nail the tone, you have to have the maxon od808 and the bbe sonic maximizer. The maximizer is their tone pure and simple

      Apparently none of the bands use what we think they do and when they go in the studio a lot of producers will advise them what amps to use . 9 times out of 10 using DI and completely changing it . I can think of 5 bands that say they use 6505 but actually don’t record with them or no longer play !! Still have the sponsor though !
      BFMV also had them white peavey cabs which had the logos taped over and then on another live video had the logos on show . I’m afraid even the bands are tricking you that they use certain things .

    They use a maxon od808, boss ns2, ibanez compressor limiter and a bbe 882i maximizer with these settings that you showed and a Mesa cab

    I've actually ran their tone different. They do use that 6505 live I've seen it. But for the settings on the distortion channel you almost chop the mid. Mid around 3-4 gain at 6-7 low at about 6.5-7. High at 7.5-8 it sounds super odd but it gives it a punch that you hear them play live. As far as the presence and all that I kept it about the same as you have in the video. Just like the clean the 6505 can be quite twangyish. Scooping the mid out gives it a raw tone!

    Highly suggest you try this amp with the crunch channel, boosted with a Maxon 808 or similar OD pedal. That's how I run my 5150(block letter) and that's how I gig with it, and I play similar music.

  • @bodinagace

    Eric, tried this on my 6505mh with a EHX overdrive and a gibson SG... it works perfectly as well...

    I've gotten a close tone of theirs using just a POD X3 live pedal and regular speakers. They use High gain settings and noise gates/thresholds. Of course use higher end guitars with EMG's and not shitty standard pickups. Blend two tones together to get super close to it. Sounds epic when you hit it.

    MESA is pronouned May Sah. A mesa (Portuguese and Spanish for table) is the American English term for tableland, an elevated area of land with a flat top and sides that are usually steep cliffs. It takes its name from its characteristic table-top shape.
    As for why Mesa Engineering went with this name, you'd have to ask them.

      ***** How do you pronounce it? In AZ that's how we pronounce it & that's the only way I've heared it. I hear others pronounce it Maysah, even people from England.

    They boost their lead tone with a maxon od 808 dude. Pretty standard for most metal/hardcore bands. I think their recorded tone in Atlas has been the best so far IMO, but I would expect them to be playing all sorts of high end amps in the studio. Their live tone is bonecrushing though. Love seeing them at home.

    Hey eric iam getting an amp soon but iam confused between evh 5150 iii and peavey 6505,i liked peavey much for high channels but i liked the evh cleans better n i was wondering if i could get evh to sound like peavey.could you please share your opinion

    • @nickstockton7506
      @nickstockton7506 8 років тому +1

      +Ray Bantawa The EVH5150iii is now made by Fender. Fender and Peavey have (imo) really different sounds, but at the sametime, similar when used with high gain. You could go both ways and meet in the middle by getting a Peavey 5150ii

    • @ray1ashwin
      @ray1ashwin 8 років тому

      Nick Stockton hey nick i bought evh 5150 iii n iam currently using it with torpedo live n it does sound somewhat like peavey but like you said,they are different amps but iam totally satisfied with its tone.

    Almost all the bands that Adam D produced record with boosted 808 amps weather its a 6505 (best) or a mesa due rec. Adam D and Joel from killswitch know their tone. Honestly I think they should push their mids a bit more but I love killswitch till the end.

    • @snapascrew

      push the mids more? the mids are on 6/10 on a 6505!!! THAT IS SOO MUCH MIDS. 6505s have a shit ton of mids so having it at 1 oclock (or 6/10) is a shit load. no clue what you're talking about.
