    1) when he said “how did they f***ed this up so badly” he was referring to the plates
    2) tips are quite a deal in Czechia and Slovakia, but it doesn’t work like in the US
The price you get on the recipe is without the tip and you can choose whether you want to tip or not. It is polite to tip at least a bit. You show the service how you liked them this way. Not tipping usually means you really didn’t enjoy your time in the restaurant 🙂

Regarding tips in Czech Republic/Slovakia, it is very common to tip a waiter but tips are almost never included in the final bill. You decide whether you want to tip the waiter or not and you decide how much you want to tip based on your satisfaction.

  • @ludmilac3120

The thing the waiter said was toward his customers making a mess on a table probably... the drink menus tend to be at the back of classic menus here (last couple of pages), in Slovakia unless you say you want a glass of tap water they will give you mineral water, because it costs sth from like 1,30 euro up (for a glass bottled one like in a video), the ceasar salat is a strange thing because I got whole salad with chicken meat and bacon and crutons in it.. but it did cost a lot, I mean I guess it depends on a place probably McDonalds would have a different one... as to the thing about not charging Slovaks the fee it means, that the restaurant is expensive and that not anyone would go there with such prices... for example people from Eastern Slovakia would not go there but to a cheaper place (there are differences with how much the people get payed between these regions, and also the prices are different)

  • @matejtrnovec9144

Tipping is the thing in Slovakia.
It depends on how rich you are. For example if you are student and you should pay 3,80€, you pay 4€ and you say "thats good", or if you pay with 5€ Bill you say "Four." So waiter would return you 1€.
If you are from middleclass from 3,80 you pay 5€ so tip IS 1,20. Richer people tips in tens od euros because they often pay more. Most rich people even tips in hundreds of euros.
It's not a shame to not tip, you often pay with card so there is tipping pointless, but even if you pay in cash, it's not must thing to do.
Here tips are for waitres, if you like waiter, atmosphere or so you tip and thats waitres money.
Also whats important waitres liked foreigneers not because they are more generous but simply avarege Slovak Citizen is not rich enough for tipping well.

Yes, we are in central Europe but because our Country was under the influence of communism for almost 50, years, there has been a really strong influence of Russia. So culturally, we aren't developed as Germany or Austria right next to us. And Peter loves to make Jokes about this. If you watch his other videos (especially the worst and best reviewed) you'll see this Borat kind a humor a lot. Everything strange you'll see im those scenes is probably only a joke (like the chicken in the car, cigarettes, Vlad...). And he's still making fun out of Eastern Europe. Slovakia isn't an Undeveloped country (maybe a little bit) but this is only for fun. Btw like we Eastern Europeans loved those jokes.

We were one of the most developed countries before WWII and even on start of communism it wasn't so bad, in 60s we were still well developed country, but everything went to shits after 1968. So we are late only cca 25 behind west, not 40 or 50. It's interesting how some countries are growing, when you look for example on Poland or Slovakia, they were total shitholes 15 years ago and now they are on same level as Czechia. So we are growing not so fast as some other former communistic countries. Slovenia and Estonia are the best I think.

Pretty accurate. However Czech Republic has more Bavarian traditions found also in Austria, but all in all its eastern.

  • @ESCLuciaSlovakia
    @ESCLuciaSlovakia 4 роки тому

I would say that even culturally Slovakia is Central Europe. We are Slavs and we share lot of Slavic customs and traditions with other Slavic nations (we were part of one tribe until 1500 years ago), but for the last thousand years, Slovaks were living very closely with Hungarian, later also with Austrian and Czech culture, maybe German too. Our way of life is closer to Hungary, Austria, Czechia and Germany than to Russia, Ukraine or Belarus. So the things we have in common with other Slavic nations are mostly almost 2000 years old, but the newer things from the last thousand years are Central European.
In my opinion, Peter is referring to Slovakia as Eastern Europe mostly to show the strreotypes we have in common with the east and also because it's more interesting to say Eastern Europe than Central Europe, as there are no stereotypes about Central Europe.
Have you seen PPPeter's new Slovak Vlog videos? I think you would like them. ☺

As a Czech I need to clarify one thing. He is reffering Czech Republic and Slovak Republic as an eastern europe to pointing out on stereotypes what americans usually thinks about us, and of course because it drives people from our countries crazy. You need to find some informations about what was going on after WWII with Czechoslovakia and Russia. And you will find out why we hate eastern block. It's kinda like after civil war in USA I would call you british people... You know something really personal.
But we also love humor, like really really dark, racist and offending humor. That's why he is so succesful :D

Okay 😃 so.. let’s make it clear, one by one... a lot of things are presented as parody, for example chicken in the front seat or old car filled up with bottles of vodka 😃. Yeah, here in Slovakia is alcohol very common thing (you can drink when you reach 18 years old), but car filled up with vodka is parody.
Caesar salat was messed up... 😂 it was salat, but not that type you would expected from name “caesar”...
About that situation when waiter was picking up plates... It was very rude, the translation was right. He mustn’t be rude and swearing in front of foreign customers. It’s basic etiquette of formal behavior. This could cost him job, because in game is good reputation of restaurant.
Tips... 😃 depends on situation and place. When you are satisfied with service in bar or restaurant, you give tip usually round up to full number (for example pizza cost 12,5€, you pay 15€ and say its good. It is not strict given by any percentage, depends on you, and your satisfaction with services, meal, etc.) But things like service fee are not common.
So... basically... when you go to restaurant, you should expect some standards, including seasoned meal, good behavior of waiters, etc. It is thing you pay for.
    Any questions? 😃

  • @saiien2

9:50 Caesar salat you've shown here is how it should look like ;) . Even here In Czechia or Slovakia this is an standard level. "Thing" what they showed here is really bad... for the price they want. Caesar salat is very specific meal and this is not how it should look like.

Culturaly SLovakia is Eastern but Czech are more similar to Germans as they were part of Austrian Empire or Holy Roman Empire and there was also large germanic minority from 12th century to year 1947 so it was pretty common that people spoke both languages. Elites sucha s merchants in cities tend to be germanic, nobility spoke almostr always german and even law was copied from laws of Bavaria and Saxony. Also social structure of families or cities was the same as the germanic one. Linguisticly we are almost the same with Slovaks but historically and culturaly they are more similar to Ukranians or Poles.

That restaurant is pure scam and that waiter is not even denying that. :-D No drink menu, crazy prices and rude acting.
BTW tiping is common in Czechia and Slovakia, waiters have minimal salary and live only from tips very often, not always, but if owner is Czech "bussinesman" than it's probably like that.
Beer for 4.5 eur is really something crazy, you can have cheaper beer even in western europe. 4.5 eur is 117 CZK, beer in Czechia or Slovakia should cost 50 CZK max, maybe 70 in historical center, but more than 70 is really scam.

Who drives their car without the trusty chicken navigator??? And yes, the "ham" is kind of like baloney. Just ground leftovers of animals, mostly chicken (here it's called a "chicken separate"), a large pink "sausage" sold in plastic wrap. We in Czech Republic call it "junior", it's also called "the doctor's sausage". It's disgusting, but when times were bad, it was a savior, because it's really cheap (about two dollars for half a kilo) and has some nutrition at least.
Vlad's English was pretty bad in their first videos, I guess he just started learning when the channel started. You can clearly see that in the first videos he doesn't speak at all and then after a few months he manages. And yes, he has an accent as well. So that's why he was nervous.
The waiter was cursing because of the plates coming out of the kitchen dirty, or maybe, which is much more likely he was referring to the customers being nasty and making a mess. He said "neviem, prečo je to tak zajebané", which means "how could they make such a mess". Since he was servicing foreigners at the moment, he let a bit of steam out in slovak thinking no one around understood him. OR, maybe he tried to catch Pppiter's attention. Who knows.
Keep it up man, I love your videos.

I don't think Slovakia ic culturaly Eastern Europe. When I compare us to for example Ukraine, Russia or Belarus, the difference is huge. The main reason of thinking of us as eastern europe is that we are slaavs, and for western world slaav = russia = undeveloped. Generally I would say that Slovakia along with Czechia are the most developed and west-oriented among other slavic countries.

Greetings from Czech. Food problem is the same around the world.. Caesar salad is caesar salad - there is no any space for chefs imaginations. There is nothing like Czech caesar salad, Slovak caesar salad or Italy caesar salad... For ex. in US have every country their own recipe for "best" ribs.. in my country is it for example "svíčková" - this are regional foods. But food like Aglio Olio, Caesar salad, Margherita are traditional international recipes and should be made always from the same materials.

In Europe tipping is a thing! Usualy if you are satisfied with the meal and the service it is good to give at least 10% extra of the price. If your whole meal and drink etc cost 50 dollars it is decent to give 60 at least. I know that in America 10% is the acceptable minimum but here in Europe 10% is normal. If you give more you were really satisfied.

I would not say that here in slovakia is not the tipping popular. For some restaurants it's rude for not leaving a tip.
For example you have to pay 4,30€ and they are expecting you to leave there 5€ (but not in every one)

I am from Slovakia and.. never saw that big numbers at any restaurant . There was sometimes even 8 or 9 euro but usually you eat for like 5-6 euro .

I would say this wasn't about being picky I think the reviewers are genuinely trying to save you money by not going into this tourist trap. It's ridiculous to charge this much money for this quality even in the city center, these prices are for the luxurious special restaurants in Bratislava, this food is the cheapest shit you can get, this is what they will serve you in the cheapest restaurant just in this one they charge ridiculous price for that. Normally for a food from such an amateur chef you would pay about 5 euros. I don't think this restaurant still exists I think it's already gone. There are so many nice restaurants for half the price around. I wish tourists would think twice about where they eat to not to support these thieves

Caesar salad, sorry :D I've had one "Caesar salad" with bacon, hard boiled egg, regular lettuce (not Roman lettuce) and chicken meat in Slovakia. So take your opinion...

PPPeter often exagerates to play into stereotypes. Fact is, Slovakia is as modern and as developed as any western country. That despite getting rid of communism only 30 years ago.
