Great tip! But the mileage on this car is correct. The average industry MPH used is 30 MPH, not 60 MPH. So, 5103.54 X 30 = 153,106 miles. This odometer shows 173,296 miles, that's an average of 33 MPH. This odometer is correct.
wonder why he didn't respond? Who is right?
I read this comment after posting mine, where I mentioned the exact same issue. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.
I working in UK with Mercedes cars for 17 years and from new to really old and on average car mileage per hour threw lifespan is just under 38 per hour. !!!That's UK miles!!! Actual is 37.68 eqals to 60.5 km/h. So to your formula 60 per hour is not realistic in country with 70mph speed limit, again UK, that's mean no traffic lights waiting when systems are active no city driving which half of the London is 20mph speed limit these days and no traffic jams etc. So if we taking your 5103.54x 38 miles = 193934
I used to work in Germany NO SPEED LIMIT car easy doing 150mph per hour on motorways and still they average was jus over 45miles/h so your math is ridiculous. Sorry mate but completely stupidly irritating video.
Thank you for many great information. On the subject of this video, I am not sure I agree with you. Only way you can average 60 miles per hour would be to solely drive on the highway. Therefore, an average of 30 miles per hour would be more reasonable average. This would result in expected mileage that is much closer to the displayed miles.
You may be correct. However 60 miles per hour is considered the national average that dealerships here in the USA use.
Most people break the law and speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Therefore i agree with 60 mph average
@@iRepairAutos 30 MPH is more realistic and that cars milage is correct. This is a very poor method to check a cars milage ! The cars milage should be any where between 150k and 300K according to your method ..how does that help anyone? Dont use hours to caluacte the mailge of a car unless you know for sure what its average speed has been since the day it left the factory
😢oo🎉😊😅😊
There is some percentage that must be considered. For example. Idle Time!! I agree with the discrepancy, maybe not the full amount.
Fair enough.
Yeah, you gotta think about if the engine was replaced/rebuilt and hes probably reflecting that on the odo. I'd rather have the engine miles shown, but what you probably pulled up was what they call chassis miles, the only thing you cant change w/o completely changing the car
Idle hours are horrible for an engine.
It sounds like you are the real deal I appreciate the heads up on that I hate dealers period I appreciate the heads up on actual mileage on Mercedes I feel like checking the Mercedes in our family thanks again
Nice video! I would love to do this on the Mercedes I bought several years ago used but I might get sick on the spot if it shows I was played lol. Peace
Look at your average speed on the cluster, and use that number to multiply by the hours.
@@iRepairAutos averaging 60mph is insane. I drove across country doing 90+ the whole time it averaged out to 55mpg. You have to get gas + traffic. Maybe see what your average mph is on your s class cluster it shows it.... I'd bet it's in the 20s...
My odometer stopped working on my 05 A209 idk what’s wrong i cleared the miles and it went blank
Thanks!
Note, you said take the Miles on the airbag times 60 to get the miles...
Correction, hours x 60. Good catch my friend!
Lol thanks man.very cool trick
This approach could be totally misleading, because not everyone's average speed is 60 mph, used in the above approach. If you divide the existing miles by the hours suggested by the meter, you get average speed of 34 mph, which might be the average speed of many owners of cars this hi end - who only drive to schools, stores, movies, restaurants and local golf clubs etc. I bought a GL500 with lots of wear and tear - from wealthy parents of 4 kids, and the vehicle was only driven to school and back, with average speed being about 30 mph, plus lots of idling hours, which is sop while waiting for the kids.
The miles calculated from this method should coincide with what the odometer says. Wear and tear should also coincide with amount of miles which calculates to amount of time the vehicle has been used.
Omg thanks
Thanks for the info, my friend... I have doubt for Mercedes Benz A200d AMG Line from 2017 with just 15000km, that I want to buy... Now I know. Thank you 🙏
Cool,, I gotta question , I want to buy a 2008 Ml 350 the owner said the odometer dose not work. He said it has 96K How much could it cost to fix that issue ? I'm going to check the hours on the air bags . Thanks I love your stuff
Hello i Repair, in Germany i always write Down my Fuel cunsume in Spritmonitor an over the years i have a good feeling for thes thinks, ive i cam over the hours to km in Germany so i take always 50km per 1h so the S-klasse has 5103 x 50km = 255150km = 158550 miles i think in this case you are wrong ... Regards from Germany Stephan
You're correct to use the average speed for your driving style. 60mph is the national average in the usa. Right or wrong, that's the national average.
@@iRepairAutos the last refulling i had 58km/h over 850km on my odometer, but i also drive 190km/h on the Autobahn, with town driving , Taffic lights i am always at 50km/h ...
@@StephanPluemer I think that you are totally right. No way to get 60 miles average. Average in Europe was about 30 km / h. You can't drive 10 years only on highway. In big cities you have 10 miles average. America have many big cities.
@@iRepairAutos But that doesn't include idling time at the lights and in traffic.
Hi Keith,
I can't find the average speed on my 2008 ML350. Can you please let me know if there is such a feature on this car. Thanks,
i got a new engine in my w211 miles aint right on the dash how i roll dat back
It's not only the engine that does the miles.....
Unless you live in nyc then it’s definitely the true miles because average speed is like 15 mph sometimes even less so much traffic especially in rush hours
1 mile per minute is more indicative of highway driving. City driving would be more akin to .5 miles per minute, but even with that taken into account on this car, 59k on the odometer is way off from any reasonable estimate using your formula. You almost got taken..
BTW that car is on 173269 miles, not 59K & you are correct, no car averages 60 MPH over its lifetime. 30 MPH is more realistic, so multiple the hours by 0.5. The car you showed has 5103 hours x 0.5 = 153,000 miles which is close to what the oddo is reading....so no issue. BTW that car is on 173269 miles, not 59K
Do you have a video on problems with odometer for a 94 W140? I've heard it is computer operated and not mechanical.
What a bad boy scanner I'll look in to it
Q- will ICarsoft support the 2001 e430 ? - thanks
This just happened to me
Super sir you’re a genius (From London) UK
I think I do not get it...when you calculated the hours of the car on your scanner you called that number MILES instead of hours, forgive me if I am wrong, but should you have called this hours? and then multiply by 60 or 30 to get the true MILES? thanks confused
Are you sure that calculation is not in km?
you can confirm and let me know your findings
Great tip but you need add more factors like your cars avarge mpg this will tell you how much of it city driving vs Hiway driving.
Airbag Hours*65*Average Mpg Divided by EPA Rated HiwayMPG.
I believe mileage on this vehicle is accurate.
Awesome video. Thanks.
Kieth, I will need to know Brazilian jujitsu when i tell the seller they are cheaters, so Is there a safe recommended distance to keep when performing this ?
yeah, I wouldn't confront the seller. Most often they may be the second owner of the vehicle and may not even know what was done.
Well, it's not like catching a wife doing solo stuff 🤣
Which one of those numbers on Mercedes Benz odometer represents Vehicle's current mileage? Why Mercedeses have 2 sets of mileage on their odometers?!!! I don't get it!!!
So I went to get a Mercedes today and I used ur way and the owner said wtf ru doin and sent me away then he told me I don't have money to buy it so I bought the Car and now I know it has 3000miles less than the original mileage..
ps:Its a blue Mercedes E350e AMG Package btw
But that would not be accurate. If you are someone like me who can sit in your car idling for hours a day being on the phone conducting business etc. That is not driving mileage.
Who in HELL has a AN AVERAGE speed of 60mph! They would have to drive everywhere for years at 150 MPH!
More like 20MPH is average. OMG you have to be joking! GET REAL! THINK ABOUT IT!
Sorry but I'd have to disagree. 60mph average it's just too high.
maybe - adjust for your driving style. But that's what they say the national average speed is.
Most cars average is below 20mph. With all of the stop and go and idle time, there is no way an average can be 60mph.
@@iRepairAutos I would say maybe 30-40 MPH is the average. Unless you drive on the highway quite a bit, then yeah 60.
If the car is usually driven in city transit, like mine, it would hardly be over 20-25 miles/hour.
I agree. Adjust the speed to match your data. Actual average speed is given in the cluster
I apologize for being a dummy but I didn’t hear where you got that piece of equipment that can read the hours, I just got a GLK350 and now I’m curious AF what my miles are
This is a great tip
Should not be correct to use an average for all. You can do the average to get closer, after you know where was, or who, used the car. Otherwise you just guess.
I am lucky. There is only ONE mile of the discrepancy in mileage. Thank you!
Great feeling....
iRepair Autos, indeed it is. Thanks again!
Can we check other parts like that, not only airbags? What if someone rewritten a time in ECU
Thank you this video was very helpful thank you so much
Thanks for the tip Keith, I'm going to check my car now to see if it tallys up 😊
check your average speed (cluster) as your car may not be averaging the 60 mph speed..
@@iRepairAutos ok will do, thanks again
i buy w204 mercedes and luckly it is a true milage..thank god
Mister , I would bow to you and roll a red carpet :D , thank you so much
Can't they manipulate operating hours as well ?
Hours will be ignition on time so wont relate to true KM
Hello Mr. iReapir Autos I have a Mercedes Benz E500 la miles are flashing all the time (- - - - - - -) no number you have idea what wrong?
Thank you
Reset the trip mileage see it stops.
In the USA the mileage thing is not a common problem. Maybe in Nigeria . It is a very strict law here in the us.
You must be a clown
Thanks for the info., that is great.
....60 miles per hour...
How do I get my key to turn in my 2007 Mercedes R350? I inserted the key but it won’t turn to start the engine. Please do a video on this please. Thanks
Make sure your foot is on the brake and you need to turn it clockwise.
Try another Key. Sometimes the Key goes bad. I had to replace mine. It also takes a week to get from Mercedes. Make sure you always have two working keys. They are expensive so don't throw your keys around. Hope this helps, let me know how you made out.
Does it matter if ur using mileage vs kilometers?🤔
You should adjust accordingly
Such a great advice !! Thank you !
Word. You are awesome.
Hi, thank you for teaching me this! This seems to be an extremely useful tip when I buy my next car! By the way, are you still doing the giveaway for the lights?
Yes, I will announce the winner in my next video
@@iRepairAutos eel
I mostly drive my 2008 GL locally, and barely manage 18mph average.
so 60mph assumption sounds rather extreme.
and according to Scotty Kilmer, post 2000 model year Mercedes are incapable of lasting over 200,000 miles.
Scotty.... My ML350 has 270K miles on it.
That last part, not very true. Sure, if you don't service it, but that is with any car. With the proper servicing and proper parts, it will go very far.
@@iRepairAutos Yeah I was about to be like, your ML350 already passed 250K lol
Dude, Scotty Kilmer is hardly an unbiased arbiter when it comes to Mercedes. lol I've got 225k on my E class and it shows no signs of dying anytime soon, another guy I know has 271k on his and it doesn't even burn a drop of oil between changes...
Wow, thank you. Trust doesn't exists anymore, Trust yourself and your information.
This is genius!!!
