Many people rave about other players at the table but I don't think enough people appreciate just how much Liam adds to the story and the world as a whole with gems like this. This bit is 40 minutes of unscripted nonsense which is quite possibly the best thing Critical Role has ever done. Liam perfectly set it up and watched the rest of the group just run with it without making himself the main character. That's pure teamplay
One bit I cut is Liam stepping out of character to say "Sam Riegel gave me a bullet to kill Travis Willingham, but I have turned the gun back on Sam Riegel." 😆
Liam’s good at stuff like this. He has a knack for dropping little RP stones for Sam and Travis that he knows they’ll run with to create avalanches. Like the vacation episode where Vax stole Tary’s armor and framed Percy, which caused a chain reaction of absolutely delightful chaos.
Liam set that up perfectly. He called the audience out for thinking he was making sexual innuendos and then spent like three minutes subtly implying he wants to sleep with Grogg.
"Meanwhile, inside... I'm just so happy to be back in the group" I LOVE that Sam knew exactly what was going on, what he would do with it, how he was going to use it, knew exactly what he wanted to happen next, had a song planned perfect for the occasion, he accepted it, rolled with Liam's plan and made it his own in like two seconds.
You can see Sam jotting down the song as Liam and Travis are doing their bit; that was created on the fly for Liam when that bit came up, because Sam is an absurd comic genius.
This is the most metagaming thing that Sam has ever done in 400 episodes. I say this not as a negative on his performance here, but as a positive for him everywhere else.
I find it hilarious that, despite people praising Matt's incredible memory, "Oh shit I forgot about that" happened to him TWO CAMPAIGNS IN A ROW. I'm woefully behind C3 at the moment so I don't know if it's happened to him yet with C3, but I'd be surprised if it didn't happen again by he end of C3.
Love how Percy sort of kind gets an ego boost from the whole affair towards the end. “I mean… is it REALLY that hard to believe that someone finds me attractive?”
Honestly, I feel like that was his way of shutting down Marisha's metagaming. Because let's be honest, there's no way in hell she would know Vax did anything with that stealth roll.
@@TheWereman84 Vax covered Keyleth's eyes for some reason (she mentioned his hands were sweaty and asked why he was nervous), and then Scanlan drank the drink Vax was holding and started acting weird. I love how much joy this brings Liam after such a heavy set of episodes, and looking back, I think Sam knew precisely what he was doing to help cheer Liam up by playing this to the **hilt**. Such a great moment from C1.
This was such a great scene. Liam basically got Sam to play his own prank on Scanlan. And Sam, knowing that his plan for Travis/Grog was foiled, ran full tilt into it. If you didn't know better, you'd think Liam and Sam set that up ahead of time.
I feel like Taliesin’s 1 Insight roll is reflective of Percival just kind of being used to this sort of thing at this point. Lilith, Vex’ahlia, Pike, Tary, probably a couple others we don’t know about - Scanlan’s just the latest in a long line of Vox Machina and Associates to crush on The White-Haired Master of Whitestone. Scanlan starts waxing amorous and Percy’s like: “My goodness, really? You too? Well… alright, I suppose… this sort of thing does seem to happen. I’m flattered, to be sure, but I’m a married man, Scanlan.” And Vex’ahlia’s like: “I mean, I get it but *what the fuck!?* How many of our friends…?? He’s *MY* man, for Pelor’s sake!”
Percy: I put a trap on the door. Scanlan: Where I’m going, I don’t need doors. Matt: The potion wears off. Scanlan: I leave. Percy: Through the door? Scanlan: Yes. Percy: Yes! My trap worked!
"I could say Turducken and you people would turn it into sexual inuendo." Well, it is one thing stuffed into another thing, stuffed into another thing, so that wouldn't be surprising or difficult.
The accidental genius of this move is that, since the emotional stakes are high, they cant know that its not scanlan "finally coming clean and confessing his love, because he will never have another chance".
