Your birds are turkey vultures soaring on afternoon thermals. The two-toned wings (black and silver) held in a slight dihedral or a V is a dead giveaway. Another great video. Enjoyable as always!

Thanks very much! We were super impressed with the turkey vultures and their ability to glide for minute after minute without needing to flap their wings. It was very cool to watch. The thermals you're talking about definitely explain how they were able to do that, and it makes sense because it was rapidly changing from a cool morning into a very warm day.❤️

ELISE and ADAM a hello from France. What a pleasure to see you under this waterfall, you have a blast like big children. In most of your videos, majestic birds accompany you, it's probably a nod to nature protecting you. Alone in this lush nature with the most beautiful flowers, you can meet dangerous snakes and mammals, and I can't help but make this little joke, when will the E-T and their UFO come? More seriously, you forgot to list the hairy tarantula that once blocked the passage of ELISE. ADAM I find your shimmering red shorts, proof that the new sunny season is here. I'm waiting for these new adventures with great videos that I won't fail to watch. Kisses to you both. DAN
Fantastic video! Not all adventures need to be death defying... I grew up in Southern Orange County back in the 1970's. At the time there were a lot of open grasslands were we would explore as kids. We often heard rattlesnakes in the grass, but I never saw one. It did give good encouragement to stay on the trail. The tall flower was a yucca bloom. Thanks for sharing!

Cool video! I worked at a monument in NM that had plenty of rattlesnakes, and we had training from the guy who runs a rattlesnake museum. What I learned is that in all your adventures you probably were within five feet of a rattler numerous times. They only go into an offensive mode if they feel threatened. They are a lot more scared of you than you are of them… well, except for Adam. 😊 We had to relocate many or just get them to move from where visitors normally go.

Decades ago, a memorable encounter with a rattlesnake left a lasting impression on me. My coworker and I were working among oak trees near Angels Camp during the summer. As we were making our way through the area, we stumbled upon a large rattlesnake coiled up and rattling its tail. It was my first time seeing a wild rattlesnake, and I was both fascinated and terrified.
The most unsettling part of the encounter was when my coworker used a long chainsaw to lop off the snake's head. The decapitated head continued to move, opening and closing its mouth in a bizarre and unnerving manner. In a precautionary measure, my coworker picked up a nearby boulder and crushed the head to prevent any potential harm to others.
After ensuring the snake's head was no longer a threat, my coworker proceeded to the headless snake, still coiled up and writhing. He carefully picked up the snake, wearing his leather gloves, and used his buck knife to cut off the rattle as a souvenir. It was the first and last time I touched a rattlesnake's rattle in my life.
My coworker shared an interesting fact about baby rattlesnakes, warning that they should be avoided at all costs. According to him, young snakes lack control over the amount of venom they release, and would release it all at once. I can understand why he would be concerned about these venomous creatures.
The experience had a profound impact on me, and I've been extremely cautious when hiking in California ever since. The encounter remains etched in my memory, a reminder of the importance of being aware of the wildlife that inhabits our natural surroundings.
I am also afraid of snakes. Can't blame Adam for being cautious. Glad you two had a great time hiking. : )

@@LiveHardxLoveHard He carried the chainsaw for felling oak tree. With California's native oaks often boasting substantial girth, he opted for a lengthy chainsaw to expedite the process. Being a seasoned outdoorsman, he navigated the terrain like a champ and he knew what to do with snakes. The long chainsaw allowed him to lop the head off at a safe distance. I thought he was going to scare the snake off with the chainsaw noise then the events unfolded unexpectedly. Keep in mind we did not have cellphones back then. If anything happened, our return trek to the trucks spanned a solid mile before we could even consider radioing for assistance. Although I was extremely fit back then, it would have presented major challenges to carry a 220 lb man for a mile in a timely manner for help.

Nice! i have hiked that before also and it is a beautiful area and more so with water flowing. I almost slipped off the top of that one, it was very slick. Be sure to go to Upper Hot springs canyon again, it was pumping this year. I went with a group of 7 in Late February as a canyoneering trip. Just below where Adam stopped on your last trip was "single track falls" and right around the corner of that is the two-stage 100' waterfall. A few more falls and slides follow along with 45 min slog to get to the last two falls a 40' and right after that the main falls of 160'. A steep 3 hr exit followed to get back to Bluejay campground. I can send you a FB link if you want to see the pics and vids let me know. Loving the waterfalls this time of year.

I prefer conflicts with mammal brains although I find reptile brains make interesting peaceful encounters. I'm *definitely* not scared of bird brains. One thing to keep in mind, we always assume humans are being picked on in reports of conflicts with wild life. But really? Maybe when they tell their stories that way. But I think it is mostly the other way round, sometimes humans blundering into a misunderstanding, then a small fraction of wildlife aggression. The scariest creature I can think of sneaking up on my tent at night is homo sapien.
