phacelia needs darkness to germinate, so cover the seed with 50mm of soil. After 4-5 weeks, plant 10-20cm apart into the garden to form a carpet of colour.

I love phacelia having seen a wild variety in Olympia, Greece, but when I tried to grow the seed myself here in Pennsylvania it failed to survive very long after germination and never did flower. My home is in zone 6,so can you offer any growing tips including germination and sighting for successfully growing phacelia tanacetifolia or any other variety of this beautiful plant? Many thanks for the posting of your beautiful field video.

They need quite a bit of light and dry heat. I grow them here in So Cal and they pop up like weeds lol. Once the seeds germinate dont keep the soil too wet, let it dry out a little between waterings. Probably the biggest thing is that Pennsylvania is almost always wet and rainy so maybe consider growing it in pots indoors and moving it outside when its warm and dry.

Yah, but how much do we need per acre? When do we plant it? How do we plant it? No info at all.

180-1500 lbs of honey and 300-1000 lbs of pollen per acre, very much depends on soil quality. Blooms and produces throughout the day, the blue color is very appealing to all bees and butterflies. I am going to plant this in my garden edging and also all around my property fencing, bees need help as GMO's are deadly to them.

1000 kilos of nectar per hectare.Apart from that,it can be planted to bloom 2 times a year in temperate regions and 3 times a year in warm places.
I like this plant but for me its tricky to sow .

      Thanks for this valuable information
Have you ever planted these flowers in apiaries?
      Did you get these results?
As for the duration of flowering, is it really 45 days?

@@sbdododo12 flowering last that long and the bees get crazy about these Phacelia Tanacetifolia( lacy phacelia).
I didnt tested iet the nectar flow with my beehives because i had too little Phacelia that germinated.
Its hard to sow them but once you have a field of these it would be amazing.
I plan to sow phacelia all over my land at home, but for the moment i grow a few plants to colect the seeds and plant those seeds.
Dont want to risk and pay a fortune on seeds and get just 20 plants.
Now i have a few that sprouted from seeds planted last year. The seeds survived winter and minus 15C.
I have hopes that it can self sow over time but recomandations are to sow seeds manually each time.

I was not able to germinate Phacelia seed by broadcasting it. I had to sow it in flats. The slugs must eat this seed.

I didn't have much luck growing it either. This is my third attempt but this time in a container, before the fall frost!

@@KishorTwist I know is likes a neutral ph. My soil is acidic. I got a few to survive but they were MUCH shorter than I expected. I put that bag in the basement. I had luck growing Sunn Hemp from Hoss Tools.com
