1968 Ludwig Super Classic 3 Piece Drum Set Restoration

- Over the years I have owned many sets of Ludwig drums in these sizes and have never kept them. (The one I should have kept was an absolutely mint Galaxy Sparkle set with the matching Jazz festival snare drum..... Oh and I had a Citrus Mod Set as well that was mint as well as a Mod Orange set). Although Camco and Gretsch have for the longest time been what I use, these Ludwigs bring back many fond memories from the distant past when I did use these sizes. Really digging this set, and with the calf heads the pleasure is twice as nice! Let me know what you think.
such a unique sounding kit, definitely one of the best Ludwig kits money can buy
Never disappointed watching your content. It’s blue sparkle how can you not dig it.
Thank you so much for this. Not only was it great to see the restoration but I also found it was incredibly relaxing to watch. 🙏🏻

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! 🤘🏻❤️🥁❤️
Great restore work, Let that set sing with some coated Ambassador heads, 60s 3 ply sing with them.
Thank you for the wisdom!!
Loved this !
Thank you so much for sharing your skillful ability to bring that classic set back to like new life.
My pleasure Greg, glad you enjoyed this restore.Cheers, Bruce
Well done. I still have a 1962 Ludwig double 8X12 tom toms, 16X16 floor tom and a 22” Base drum. White marine pearl set. I think it was called the Hollywood set. I was 16 in 1963. I played many a gig with these back in the day and have the hearing aids to show for it. My father paid around $ 512.00 for this kit including the metal snare , 2 cymbal stands, snare stand and the speed king base pedal. Except for a small round cigarette burn near on top near the rear ( fraternity party ) hoop and a slight yellowing of the pearl they appear new. I put a small bit of plastic wood on the burn and then a small square of white tape on that. Those were the days 😂!!
Spectacular as always sir! Wonderful job.
Thanks friend, I appreciate your kind words
this is one of the best "restoration" videos i've seen ! you've done such an amazing job !!! very helpful too...thanks
That's a beuatifull Drum Set, Indeed.
I'm considering in buy me a GRETSCH Renegade in Blue Mist Color, very similiar as this drum kit
Very cool! Old drums and drummers need some love too
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I've got a 1968 Ludwig Super Classic Blue Sparkle kit. Date stamps of FEB 5 1968. They are painted white on the inside. Really nice sounding drums. Can't beat the smell when the heads are taken off!
Glad you like it Patrick. It is growing on me too even though I am more of a gretsch guy. Just a different feel altogether.
Great job man.

I need all the Ludwig sets! Just do!! Thanks for the video.
Ahh this is nice! I have a '69 Hollywood in Champagne sparkle. All clear interiors. All 1st year Atlas hardware. I just love it. Nice work!
Thanks for the comment Brian. I forgot how good Ludwigs sounded. I am now at a crossroads of trying to justify another set in the collection. Bruce
Those are nice cans. I was always a Slingerland fan. I custon ordered a set with three ply maple with rerings. Still have them and they sound great. I bet those are Jasper shells.
What a killer set. Sounds really good with those calf heads.
Yes it is Robert. I never thought I would be playing a 13" 16" 22" again but what is old is new again. Cheers, Bruce
hello, what compounds are using with your buffer? sorry if you already said so in the video....
Smells like 1968😂😂. Nice kit! Good job.
I restored the Ludwig cloud logo on the bottom of the resonant side. I use a quarter to restore the 3 clouds of the logo as it is the right diameter with a fine point sharpie. The using a good image from another head just hand drew the Weathermaster and pat. # wording on the bottom. It came out very nice. Just a tip for restoring a weak bottom logo.
Nice set Bruce! I just got a 60's WMP downbeat yesterday.
Thanks for checking my little channel out Shawn. I check yours out as well and enjoy it. I like that Gretsch set you got a while back. Wow that downbeat set must be nice. Stay in touch bro!
awesome trick using the heat gun to get the dent out of that head!!!!
Bruce, Nice work on that sweet Ludwig kit! Watching your channel always makes me Happy! And by the way cool demo as well.
I like the sound of the calf skins on those drums, not something you hear everyday on that vintage Ludwig’s but such a classic sound - dark and punchy. So much Soul! Like what the early masters played. Please keep the great content coming. P.S. Can I contact you with a few questions/ adviseI on a Oaklawn Camco set I have that I am in the process of restoring? I wouldn’t want to be a bother.
Thanks Ron for commenting and sure, contact me anytime if you have questions. budsmusic@hotmail.com
From my perspective the last letter looks like a P which could be SEP.
If you do that much work I would of put all new heads on it
