  • This is my longest video yet, it shows how I throw, trim, handle, wax, glaze and reduction fire a handled stoneware jug. If you manage to make it all the way through you've got to let me know in the comments below!
I hope this film shows you a bit more of the behind the scenes of my work and if you've got any further questions about what you see here please do let me know.
Also, here's the link to my friends shop, Darren Ellis doesn't sell the throwing gauges all the time but when he does restock you can find them here: www.darrenellis...
Thanks for watching and as always, you can find me everyday on Instagram for daily posts.

Love your videos, Florian. I only fire oxidation, but get great results. I get a really lovely feeling when you do something just like I do, but I am picking up some great tips also. Hope to see some handbuilt pieces from you.

Nice and clear. I like the commentary format which is so much better than trying to talk to the camera, operate it and remember all that needs saying. I agree with you about letting the clay settle to an even dampness throughout, so many people always rush that bit. Have you tried real wax? We use an electric saucepan and lower the pot into it. Also I was interested in your crash cooling at the end of the firing - I must try that. Thanks for taking the trouble to put this together.

Thank you Mike. So pleased you like the format of these videos. I have used real wax, for a long time in college, we used to melt it down in big saucepans in the glazing 'shed' and the room would fill up with the fumes that truthfully got us all a little high. The establishment soon after had a giant extraction hood and fan installed. I like it, it does brush on more smoothly, but this wax emulsion I've been using, once watered down a little with boiling hot water, is fine really. Does the same job and I don't have to heat it up or anything. It tends to be a task I do once every couple of months as I can do all of it in a day or so. The only thing I really miss is the smell, molten natural wax is such a treat for the nose. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for making this video. It's always a pleasure to watch and see the whole process. I'm so tempted to go back to study ceramics! My cousin got her diploma for ceramics and makes some awesome art. I love the functional pieces most I think :D

Thanks for the great video! Really informative and nice to watch. I'm just trying to get a hang of the basics of wedging, throwing on the wheel (especially centering!:0) and trimming.. would be great if you could produce a series on basic pottery techniques as well!
