Unintentionally Sympathetic: The film has Nadine drive home that she knows she's been *self-centered, mean and chatty* - but she's also spent the entire movie ignored, belittled, and mocked, making one wonder if it's possible for her to be self-centered when she's one of the only people who cares about her well-being. Mona has openly favored Darian for Nadine's entire life and never cared to learn about what was bothering her own grieving, depressed daughter (and even brought up that her beloved father would be disappointed in her, when Nadine clearly wants and needs help and understanding) while Nadine had to be the one to comfort and reassure her mother. And though Nadine was wrong in forcing her best friend to choose between her and her brother (who doesn't consider the feud any of his business to solve despite willingly pursuing the relationship), she never gets a decent apology from either for their behavior and *has to be the one to apologize.*

All of this. I feel like the movie really tries to make Nadine an unlikable character who has to learn how to think of other peoples feelings, while having her own feelings completely dismissed for the entire movie.

i really love this movie, with how flawed nadine is and how realistic the characters and situations seem, but what cuts me is that in the end no one in her family apologized to HER. yes she did wrong, and im glad that she apologized to her brother because of what it means for her growth as a person, but she also deserved to hear apologies from her brother and mom. theyd be long overdue too, with her mom blatantly having favored her brother for years (plus that comment in the office about her dad oh my god) and her brother pursuing her best friend and then leaving the two girls to deal with the fallout of the relationship reveal like it wasnt his problem; he pissed me off the most also because its one thing to start a thing with a sibling’s bff when all three of you are close, but he was NOT close with nadine and he never seemed to take any interest in her or her life.
Agree! Also, Nadine had ONE friend. You're telling me he couldn't find any other person at that school. I honestly felt like the scene where she said "I wish you loved me like that" was justified. I hated her brother. And her friend is fake.

Yes completely her brother was the one person who made Nadine feel inadequate and we see that from the very beginning when they're children and so for her best friend to know how she feels about him and then still sleep with him and be with him. Shows complete, disregard and the fact that no one in her family or her best friend apologized to her at the end is appalling.

They really painted her as the villain but her best friend chose her brother over her. I don't think she was being irrational, her friend should have went about it another way if she liked her brother. Idk if I was a teen or better yet Nadine I would have 100% done the ultimatum. If we were really friends you would have talked to me beforehand. So nah she can't play the mature card bc it's really just the selfish betrayal card... and I'm not buying it 😐. She lied, she got caught and then tried to manipulate Nadine into feeling bad about not being cool with it. Like Nadine even said her brother has everything he didn't need to go after her bestie. Besides its HS, the relationship won't even last so realistically she ditched her best friend for a romantic relationship that won't even last half as long.

I absolutely love this movie it's one of my favorites but I dislike how everyone treated Nadine this whole movie. She is depressed and feels inadequate to her brother and that was her whole problem growing up. The only people who made her feel better was her best friend and her dad and then after her dad died all she felt like she had was her best friend who then slept with her brother who was the one person who made her feel unsecure. Her mom is just horrible and then she has to apologize to everyone at the end. I get Nadine is not the best person but I feel like Nadine and thus us as the audience are gaslighted into thinking she was the one in the wrong in the end. Even with that I absolutely love this movie.
I'm glad Irwin kinda realized she was trying to figure herself out and accepted her apology. She was looking for someone to be there for her so I'm glad he didn't give up.
Usually, the sibling and best friend relationships don't bother me, but these does Nadine's friend watch her brother me mean to her for years and never support her and you know that you are her only friend, and you choose him over her. Yes, he had to grow up fast, but that doesn't excuse what a shitty brother he's been.

Like does no one belive that they treated her wrong as well? Nadine was neglected which is why she acts the way she does. Her favorite person in the world had to leave her so the only one she had left went to one of the ppl she despises the most in her life. Mom didn't care too much about her and cared too much about the brother that he felt like he had to act like the father figure as well as being the selfish and obnoxious older brother which made him think he did no wrong. The mom did both children wrong in certain aspects despite one of them being her favorite child.
Now I'm glad she learned from it but Nadine was doing other ppl wrong before she realized because she was just trying to find another safe place for the 2 she lost.
Love how Nadine apologized and everyone started trying to get along and better themselves but she definitely deserved a couple of apologizes as well.
The magic of this movie is Nadine being gaslight by everyone around her and the viewers falling into it
I liked this movie but I CANNOT stand the trope of falling for/dating your best friends sibling. You're telling me after 10 years of knowing his sisters best friend, Krista didn't feel like an extra sister to him? Also it took Krista getting drunk for Darian to see her as a love interest? Make it make sense.
If you're not close with your sibling and/or their friends and you only see their friends in passing then no you wouldn't see the friends as another sibling. My older brother had MANY friends that would come to the house but I wouldn't say that I see any of them as family. The movie makes it clear that they'd previously never held a conversation with each other.
@@xy3951 I see your point but even if you're not close, they could still feel like an extra family member. Nadine only had Krista and they were attached at the hip. Still stand by my dislike for the trope and that Darian developed an attraction to Krista while she was under the influence.

When I watched this movie... OMG I felt all the angst. Lol. I called my best friend of 12 years and told her "If you ever choose my brother over me, we gon fight. If I hate my family, YOU HAVE TO HATE THEM TOO cos that's friendship." 😂😂🤷🏾♀️

It hits harder for me cause him and his ex wife (Melissa benoist my biggest celebrity crush and the loml) were costars on the show Glee. He was extremely controlling and even had the writers end an on screen relationship from the show. He even went as far as to guest star on Supergirl cause he didn’t want her around the men on set.

I feel like I can relate to Nadine a lot. We're both socially awkward and not great at opening up. Plus I relate to how she was feeling at the party when Krista (her only friend) ditched her, and one of my old friends even did date my brother at one point and for a while, I hated her for it
I’ve seen this movie twice and I still feel like everyone owes her an Apology her family can at her sideways and her friend left her for her brother and her mom is just wrong for saying that about the dad and no one apologize to her and yeah she was crazy sometimes but she apologized for that but no one apologize to her at all
This movie is stressful, annoying and yet so heartwarming? I cringe EVERY TIME!!! And there was also something nice about the movie letting the main character keep making these safe but awkward mistakes until she - with some help and guidance when needed - figured it out herself and self corrected.

I haven’t seen this movie in a while, but watching this back the brother, mom and best friend were the true villains. Nadine/Madeline/Sarah had her mistakes and flaws. But the brother never once cared about her life. Her mom favored the son, and the comment about her father was so messed up. Also, her friend is FAKE AF, the fact that she dropped a lifelong friendship for her brother just doesn’t sit right with me.
It's an interesting movie in the aspect everyone's acting was on point i found that very impressive, great casting.

@@wehaveadarkside yes, one of the things he did to her was he threw an iPhone at her face that broke her nose and torn the iris of her eye and nearly ruptured her eyeball. If you look up pictures of her you can see that one of her pupils is enlarged, and it’s from that incident.

I love this movie because I feel like it’s so relatable (especially for teens). Nadine has all these problems and so many teens can relate to the stress that she goes through and just how she feels and her experiences throughout the entire movie.
What i love is that there is no bad people in this movie. Everyone has thier flaws but everyone also has problems. They all have very legitimate reasons for acting the way they do.

Answer- This is a loaded question because I was told that if you and your best friend's sibling break up, you're gonna lose both your mate and your best friend. But sometimes it can make your relationship with both parties stronger. Some examples of this would be Clawd Wolf and Draculaura or Chandler and Monica. It was wired at first with their siblings, but they soon grew to support it. That's just my two cents.
I saw this movie twice in theaters and idk how many times on streaming, I love me some Hailee Steinfeld. Always bothers me how her family tried to make her the problem after the dads death despite the mother failing to properly parent her children - there’s a reason they were that way and as much as she is learning that life isn’t fair and everything isn’t going to be about her, she makes the first step to mend those familial relationships - accepts her friend making her move to fix their relationship BUT in terms of her family…they didn’t apologize for their crap behavior or the things they said. Maybe that all comes in time, it is a movie - credits roll but yeah it would’ve been nice to see.

I've heard of this movie. Mainly because two of my favorite actors, Woody Harrelson and Hailee Steinfeld are in it. But I've never seen it. This was a first time watch for me as well.
And I did have my daily glass of ice water while I was watching this video.
I very highly recommend the 2012 movie "Pitch Perfect" along with its 2015 and 2017 sequels. #Bingers

Me and my friend argued about the bestfriend/brother thing after seeing the movie. I thought Madeline/Nadine had a right to be upset while my friend disagreed. (I've always said that I could not stay friends with someone who hooked up with either of my siblings.)
I feel like it kinda depends on the dynamics of people involved but what pissed me off about this situation is the friend KNEW about how Nadine and her brother interacted for YEARS. and then what? He give her *the look* and took a ride on his disco stick and she just tossed away the friendship. I do think Nadine was a little TOO dependent on her friend but still. She basically lost another person she trusted and felt accepted by.

I literally had to pause your video and watched the movie, it was actually really good. I am honestly glad that she was finally able to see that Erwin was a really good guy and actually cared about her and listened to her. Just wished she would have seen it before but luckily she finally realized it after the other guy wasn't what she expected. She had that realization that Erwin was actually the one who was always there and they had the connection.
I come for the laughs but stay for Billys life wisdom coming through 😌🙌👏 catch me drinking more water 😃😍

This movie was a little stressful but not bad. Your commentary made it hilarious.
In my country you can drink at 18, but its normal for teenagers to start drinking and go clubbing at around 14 (depends on the parents but most of them start at 14 or 15.)
Regarding my first drink, there where three first times:
1. It was my 4th birthday party, i grabbed a cup thinking it was apple juice, it was not, it was beer. I was like, mom why is it spicy?
2. I was 5, it was a military school graduation, one of the cadetes working catering came to our table offering drinks, and described them weirdly, so my mom tought it was a stuck up military/hoity toity way of saying "cranberry juice", i drank 2 cups, it was not juice, it was a cocktail, i passed out drunk for like 3hours, my mom tought i was tired, later on she found out it i was drunk.
3. Willingly started to drink when i was in 7th grade, i was around 13/14 years old when i started going to pubs, you know at the "normal" age in my country.
Nadine could've really played that text off as a dare or something but she went through with it. And with what she said within it I don't know why she didn't think he would've thought it was a hook up/one night stand. I felt bad for her.
And no matter what Nadine said in that Text he should not have tried to force himself onto her like that.
I whatches this film like 4 years ago and it didn't come to my mind that she could've said it was a dare till now that you mentioned it so o dont really blame her on that 😂
I watched this three times when I was a teen and cried those 3 times. It is so relatable especially when she expressed to her brother how it feel to be her💔 . I FELT THAT!

Yes! Another Supernatural fan! In about two weeks time (somewhere mid-July I seem to remember) he is turning 32 (how?!?!?!??) and since this movie came out in 2016 (which is about 6 years ago) he should've been around 25 or 26 years old in this movie.

I'm watching it for the second time now and finished The End from season 5 a few days back. I just refused to watch the show for a little bit after the finale because I just wasn't ready to be even more emotionally scarred than the show already made me the first time through 😅

@@eline_van_dijk I sneak in episode in the early early morning. I work graveyard shift and I'm off at 430am so i come home an watch 2 or 3 then go to bed. Wake up at 330 and get the kids set then watch one and go to work.

What I would do if I found my future teenage kid in bed with someone is sternly ask their lover to leave, then let my child explain to me the entire story before they would go off to do anything else. I'd be all ears before determining their punishment.

I told him to either get me the material we needed by the end of that day or we drop him. It was our last meeting before due date and I had already okayed it with the professor.

1. I gave an ultimatum ONE time. And I gave it KNOWING the answer. And that was the answer I wanted. Because I was TIRED of her bullshit. It might have been a bit cowardly, but she had to know that she was not a good friend. I gave her the option to work on it.. she didn't want to. Not my loss tbh.
I don't do ultimatums. Not to others anyway. I don't give anyone the option to choose anymore. I just walk away. Is that always healthy? No. But sometimes it's the best option when I know that I'm not being valued.
