    Alec not everything needs a gemstone set in it. I’m starting to think you have started going around your house in the darkest hours of the night and frantically hammering gemstones into your shelving and kitchen appliances.

      Bedazzle!!! I'm expecting everything from now on to have jems. Hopefully they won't be in a place that will cut your hands. Actually, I can't think of any place on a scredriver that would justify a jem. Screwdrivers are designed to be utilitarian, not pretty. Hopefully whatever he does will not be unnecessarily gaudy. There were a lot of comments about the jewel on the ring. I hope he saw those and will make something that is not bedazzled.

    • @aaron.silveira
      @aaron.silveira 5 років тому +3

      Philip Curtis very true. When I saw Will’s handiwork I immediately imagined a simple dark wooden handle that would not distract from the Damascus pattern. If he does end up putting a stone in I hope the gemstone can add to the piece but not overshadow the Damascus. I think a good Damascus pattern (like on the kopesh that Liam Hoffman finished up for Alec) can be all a piece needs to be truly beautiful.
      In all honesty I think Alec just really enjoys having a skill that will does not have, because Will’s skill with the belt grinder is superb.
      Oh boy I’m remembering Hoffman’s coffee etch on that Damascus and I’m getting severely happy. Time to go rewatch that video😂

      @@aaron.silveira Exactly. I think I'll re-watch some of those vids. There's something satisfying about a simply made axe that is made to perfection and is meant to chop. There's a time and place for everything, and tools are meant for working. Damacus is ok, but stones-no.

    Been watching your videos forever and always loved them!
    You want to know what I find the most gratifying these days?
    Will: work with one hand, drink coffee with the other.
    I am a Deathwish Coffee man myself, but the principal of cofee+work=project has served me in good stead for many years.
    I have to use a Stanley insulated mug because A. I live in Minnesota, and B. I am (to my shame) a klutz. Sadly, many a fine mug has met an premature demise at my hands.
    Alex: I learned so much from you.
    Will: COFFEE-FUELED WORK-BROTHER!!

    I love the idea of damascus tools. I have daydreamed several times about a set of damascus combination wrenches. Possibly made of stainless damascus. Broaches could be custom made in the shop(clickspring) for the box end and the mill could be used to accurately size the open end. You guys are much more likely to be able to pull this off than I ever would be

    Alec, I've been watching you for a while. I love the videos. When you moved your shop and had to do a bunch of "fresh start" videos I thought it was brilliant for content because I do enjoy watching all that goes in to making the things you make. On top of that, I find the energy and banter between you and Will to be very complimentary. I have enjoyed seeing this progression and will continue to watch you make things. Keep up the great content.

    Gunsmiths appear to have a thing for very nice turnscrews, particularly the black power crowd. I'm sure I've seen some Damascus ones somewhere, but I might be confusing many displays of Damascus knives with the many fine turnscrews and the odd suit of armour. Probably Henry Krank in Pudsey?
