Very nice. I’m working on it too. I thought the lyrics about feeding the pigeons some clay was odd, so I googled it. Pigeons benefit from eating a little clay. It help them process any toxins in their food source. So Blaze was doing them a solid by feeding them some clay. Who woulda thunk?
Wayne Crump it's not just pigeons either. I came to learn a few years back that there are actually many different species of bird/avian-type creatures that do the very same, and daily ingest whatever varied quantities of sand/pebbles/grit that they do, right along with, as they eat their normal or preferred food/sustenance. And they even always know exactly how much of it that they are going to need, in direct proportion to how much and what type of actual food they are packing away. I had no idea about this thing either. But after learning of it, I found it interesting enough at that time to want to seek out some further info and explanation too. From what I remember now about it, the sand is supposed to aid in their digestive process. I think as some sort of mashing/grinding device, or dissoluting-agent. Like to better liquify their nutrition and gradually, as it goes down, make it into a smoother pulp before it reaches their stomach. I think the reason was that they needed a substitute for the regular digestive fluids that we all, and most other creatures too always have right there in our stomach already, but that they either lack, or have too little of to actually be effective and able to automatically get the job done, around the clock, just like our own acidic fluids do so well in us and without needing any additional help from any foreign non-biological materials, or forced physical interference. Chickens, ducks, and geese are constantly at it too. As are the seagulls, gobbling up sand and small bits of gravel as they wander about and forage. Or just wait there in droves, staring and cawing for you to give them some french fries!
One more thing, about 20 years ago John invited Marty Stuart to sing that song with him. Marty commented on his style of pitching and John simply replied to Marty, if you got 5 minutes I can teach you. No one had a sense of humor like John. You got to miss him along with his music. In spite of ourselves was another favorite of mine with Iris DeMent.
"Change the words to the song, and start singing again." As a songwriter, this hits home in many ways that are hard to explain. Your brain goes through so much to find that perfect word. Then the 18th or 58th time you play the song, you just change the words because you're feeling different now than you were then. lol Anyway - gorgeously melodic voice and tempo you played this with. Great job.
Loooooooove it! Great job!!! I play this song all the time. Prine is my all time favorite but I love Blaze's version better. Keep strumming the tunes! 😊
One of your followers commented he didn't understand the pigeon verse of the song apparently he's never set on a park bench feeding pigeons after a breakup. LOL.
your version sounded great . i love John's version and Blaze's version. Toni Lingren one of my favorite muscian doesa great cover aswell. cute Puppy is it yours and what is his or her name?
I've picked that song for several years, more after a breakup. LOL. I like prines version a bit better simply because of his. Not very many people have mastered Prime's picking technique even though it is simply three cords most of the time it's the style that is almost impossible to match. You are the closest I've ever heard two primes exact style. Other than Marty Stuart maybe? Also your voice was from the heart, I'm sure if John was alive he would want to pick with you.
I've been back seat riding for 73 years.
Thanks Blaze for letting me sit across the aisle.
Good stuff dear lady.
One of my favorite lyrics of all time.could build me a castle of memories, just to have somewhere to go.damn!!
So beautiful ❤
Wonderful. Thanks!
Great job! I too just learned it and sang it with my jam group last night, but I don’t play it as well as you do. Congrats on job well done!

You narrated my Google-abouts lol. Good cover. Love this song. RIP John Prine
@@alexanderson7047 Rip to Blaze Foley as well, maybe you know already but I believe it's his song.

This is only for Blaze sorry.
I dislike when people change not only the lyrics but the entire chord structure, notes and intonation of the song..thumbs down for me 😔
Excellent cover of an excellent song 😇
