In this video I, Forums will be talking about skill based matchmaking in Hypixel Skywars and how skill based matchmaking is KILLING Hypixel Skywars, because being in Hypixel Skywars games have gotten a lot harder to play and win, this has caused players to quit the game slowly over time to the point to where instead of having 1500 to 2000 players on for most of the day there's 100 to 300 for every time except the peak hours causing you to queue the same players every game

Hey, I'm one of the people that queued you 5 times, and I'm a low star/low kd player. I don't think the skill based matchmaking had much to do with it, just the shortage of players, and us dying at similar times in our games.
yeah most likely just coincidences when it comes to stuff like that, although that felt like the thing to drive my point home, I feel like it only got to that point because of players realizing sbmm then quitting the game, until you just get the same people, so although if you're a highs star you will queue low stars, it also just more common to queue high stars
If im not wrong, the august 2022 update kind of made the playerbase significantly smaller within a month. Most regular skywars playerz didnt like it.@@Forums_
Honestly a very fair view on the gamemode. I enjoyed playing it while it was still around, but now it's just the same queues over and over again. Clean editing homie, keep it up

I feel like we need to get a train of like every single active sw player making a video or post advocating against matchmaking, and we might have a shot at getting it fixes. Ofc that's not gonna happen, but it would be cool

I’m somewhat new to Skywars (8 stars), and I end up queueing 3-4 blatant B-hoppers per game since most cheaters are also low-star. I have also noticed that the skill-based matchmaking isn’t always totally accurate and I end up getting thrown in with lobbies full of high-star players, for example a few days ago I queued IroTheCookieLord along with multiple other high-star players in the same game (and the next few games after).
yeah I remember when a couple of my irl friends tried playing skywars they were getting bhopped on constantly, makes both queues sound like a hell hole.
@@Forums_The only way I have found to get around the cheaters is to get a kill right before going for the cheater to abuse the bulldozer perk, but even then you still have to have more gear than the cheater and have super precise aim since they are usually moving super fast while b-hopping. There might be a better way of getting around cheaters but it’s still a nightmare to deal with…

I just somehow happened to return to skywars today, and i totally agree. I played during peak US times and the queues were insanely stacked with high stars.
Most games had atleast 3 players above 25 stars. It's really difficult to play like this if you're not one of the top players, and starbased matchmaking should definitely be removed.

What would happen if the non queues played against the leaderboard players? I feel like it would be extremely unfair and unfun for them and might kill off a large portion of the active player count that's already tiny. Instead hypixel should focus on adding an event such as the slumber hotel into skywars to add something new to go for with the rewards being enticing enough to want to play. Just a thought I'm not completly opposed to your idea because I'm not in the bad queues but Hypixel for sure has to do something. Love your content hope you keep posting! Here's a few vid ideas btw; winning with every kit (series or in 1 vid), revisiting old challenges (youtube and hypixel), getting the cactus kill achievement (if you don't already have it), trapping (if your up to it haha).
from what I've heard and seen in non queues, it's infested with cheaters since most cheaters buy accounts that have never played skywars, and the players in the non queues don't know how to counter them. imo if I was a new player I would to just fight a good player, because if I was constantly bhopped on I would just assume the server doesn't have a good anticheat and stop playing

Great video, I understand your take but I don't agree. Let's take bedwars for instance: I used to play minecraft regularly, until my account was stolen and I took a long break from it, while there were still many players on Hypixel. I was prevously winning most of my games, as I was gold prestige and also had pretty good friends. Now I purchased the game again, due to nostalgia. I may not be as good as I was a year ago, but every game I face someone with 20k beds or 40k finals. It's impossible to win against them, even with my friend in duos. We uses to get small winstreaks in duos, and now we struggle to even win a singular game in an hour of playtime. In skywars, we can still win some of our games. And we still face sometimes people with over 50 stars(even over 20, which is still a lot for me). But we still win some games. And removing skill based mathmaking would ruin the experience. I would hate and probably even quit skywars if every game someone with 60 stars would win every time.
In Bedwars, although they also have a matchmaking system, it's not skill based, the 1-5 stars in bedwars queue each other then once you get past that you get into the regular queues. Skywars used to be that way too where 1-3 or 5 stars queued each other until they got past that, but they changed it to a more skill based one a year or two ago, if Skywars remove SBMM there would be less sweats per game since the number of players in the player pool would on paper double, but they prob won't remove SBMM so can't find out if that's right or not, I get where you're coming from though.

people would constantly cheat for the rewards then sell their accounts, the whole ranked system they went with was flawed and should've never done it in a monthly season imo, but I wasn't a ranked main so that might be a bad take

yeah, I've seen and heard in the non queues, it's infested with bhoppers since most people who bhop buy accounts that have never played skywars or hypixel
I honestly don't get why people are holding onto this narrative after almost 6 years now of the games decline that it's fixable, or that the game got fucked because of recent additions lol. It's crazy people are forgetting that back when they added this feature, a solid majority of the community was literally BEGGING for it for the opposite reasons, people were saying we were killing the game because all the sweats would just destroy the queues for newer players not giving them a chance to succeed. Fuck people were even making videos on why they should add it. Fast forward 3 years and now ya'll wanna backtrack? Lol. This isn't what killed the game, and removing it isn't gonna fix the game. The game is dead because people move on and grow up, and not to mention 2021-2022 was literally the ending of COVID. It's sad to see yeah, but it's just the truth. The game was being killed from mistakes made way back in 2017-2018 that lead to worse shit and was made no better by the dogshit community, the recent decline is definitely not because of matchmaking lmfaooo
this i can get behind but the matchmaking made it a breeding ground for new cheaters on alts that are lowstar which also means nons would get driven away from the game cause of cheaters
@@Demeanors Oh for sure, but again this is ALL shit everyone thought about and considered back when discussions were popping up about suggesting it in the first place, this is something everyone should've expected would happen, especially considering the removal of ranked not long after which again the community begged for and now wants to backtrack on lol. I feel like its abundantly clear at this point after almost 10 years of this games existence that there truly is no saving it regardless of what's added or removed. **THERE IS ALSO NO MAKING THE GAME CASUAL AGAIN.** People need to get that one through their heads, matchmaking isn't why the game ain't casual, the game isn't casual because PVP has progressed as a whole, and most people are aware of fundamental tactics. I seriously don't get why people are so hung up on the idea that there's ever a way to make the game less sweaty. This is just what PVP is now and has been. Not to mention all the people closet cheating on alts AND on their mains making the skill ceiling for PVP wack asf which is a whole nother issue mfs never like to bring up, even though it has been actively making the game more toxic and sweaty for years now.

@@Forums_ my biggest complaint right now is how long games take to queue. Trying to queue insane mode with 60 players and there's 2 maps queuing and they're both canopy. It's more painful to wait 3 mins for a game to fill than fighting sweats all the time

I don't think skill based matchmaking is the problem. I'm somewhat low star and i still queue a lot of 40-70 star players. I think all of the low star players are quitting due to how sweaty it is which makes it even worse since a lot of high stars won't quit. This kind of leads to every game having at least 3 25 star+ players. This probably only causes more low stars to quit. It doesn't matter how much you like a game if you cant play due to way too many sweats. I feel like the only thing that would fix this is a skywars update. That would probably add a lot of new players, fixing the problem of 2-5 sweats per game.

bedwars does have matchmaking for bedwars players that are like 1-3 stars, once they're outside of that range I'm pretty sure they get added into regular queues, I could be wrong though

no hate, but i dont think removing skill based matchmaking would do much to solve the problem. the main reason why the game died was because it wasnt getting any updates and the people who used to play have grown up/moved to other games. furthermore, there is no influx of players since all the people being introduced to minecraft for the first time are likely playing on newer versions in survival.

@@Forums_ It's not as good at it may seem. I know what i'm talking about, i'm skyblock lvl 350...
While skyblock receives more updates, but it's just because it's a lot more profitable and more important than pretty much all other modes on Hypixel. The quality of these updates is a huge problem, major updates get released extremely buggy, unfinished, unbalanced and some small, frequently requested QoL features get added randomly after months if not years.
When i see some of the most obvious bugs happening i guess they either have no QAs at all or their work process management is so shit that i can't imagine...
And ofc on top of that add no communication, shit player treatment, classic Hypixel moderation (worse than AIs currently) and a lot of other common problems you know.
