I’ll bite 👍👍 I live not far here in NTX And the round of rains today and this weekend will help but it’s some coooold water relative to what they’re used to 🥶
Have a surveyor come in and map the drainage of your property. A couple well placed drainage channels dug towards the pond could go a very long way in refilling the pond and keep water levels high with minimal rain.
You have two options 1 get clay and/or bentonite or 2 a pond liner there is no cheap solution to your problem. Cutting down the trees will only make it worse because the roots will dry out rot and give more way for water to escape.
Jon, I cannot put into words how much of a reality check this video was. The first video I watched of yours was 9 years ago when you talked about the Bass Pro Shops Popper in the “Best $1 Lure For Topwater Bass” video. I was 11 and just getting access to UA-cam for the first time and begged my parents to take me to the store (to this day I have a stockpile of them that I use). I have been a fan ever since and have some OG tees and sweatshirts as well as the googan baits. For some reason seeing your child, the property, etc. just slapped me in the face in how much of a journey you have taken us all along on and for how long. I personally am beyond grateful for you and what you bring to this “sport”. The quality of the videos are always on point, especially recently. Thank you for being you and taking us along on this journey.
Bro I’ve been watching you since I was like 12 and I’m 17 now you’ve motivated me to fish and js be out doors! Now seeing you with a beautiful daughter fills me with joy! Keep the videos up!!!
As a Dad, I love how you bring your daughter along for the adventures. My daughter loves coming with me to grab bait and go catch fish. She is six and I helped her catch her first bass this spring post spawn. She freaked. I'm sure your daughter is going to be quite the angler just like her Dad. Great vid, hope the pond fills back up and you find the leak!
Bro I love this dude been watching him forever and been fishing because of him. My creek out back has also been drained from this drought and it sucks. Keep fishing, never stop.
Jon, It's a ton of work building a pond & maintaining a habitant for the fish. Your little girl will enjoy fishing there, which is special. Thanks for another great video! See ya.
Great job Jon!! And yes, i would strongly suggest a layer of bentonite to help seal your pond. I just love these types of videos. Keep up the good work and your pond will be thriving for the Spring.
I had the same problem. I had many expensive loads of clay dumped in and had it tamped before refilling. I had issues with crayfish and bad algae blooms. After learning what it takes to keep the water healthy, I finally understood how to maintain. Good luck going forward.
This is my first time watching your video and I loved it. I don't purchase luxury bags and I probably never will, or if I do, it will be pre-loved. But I do buy kislux occasionally of the styles that I really like. I truly appreciate your comparisons here, which have helped me make a decision about a couple for which I was on the fence. I'll be pulling the trigger now. Thanks for this and your humor.
For as low as the pond is that bass sure looked healthy. Wonder if a layer of clay hauled in would help with the leaking. Cant wait to see that sucker filled up and thriving....good luck
Heads up, the first tree you cut down is a willow. Gonna need to do a lot more than cut the top off. That will keep growing back and putting roots all through the siding of your pond.
Bro your best bet moving forward would be to get an underground retention tank/reservoir to try to gather extra water during the wet months. Like if you could plumb your down spouts into it and what not you'd be able to have a bunch of free water for the dry season. The problem with rainwater is that it's soft so you might wanna add a bit of minerals back to it but would seriously cut the costs long term if you wanted to keep more water in it
imo probably the pond is not a do-it-yourself job. Need to line the bottom with clay, the greenery around the edges is not stealing that much water, given Texas you probably need a way to add water occasionally.
Yes line this thing with clay or it's gonna be a never ending battle to keep it full. Adding fish habitat and stocking fish will accomplish nothing in these conditions
if you have crawfish in the pond, they will dig down into the bottom and cause leaks. Bama Bass used Prawn for natural fish food that does not dig down and cause leaks. Great video, been waiting for an update for a while.
Bro I remember watching you when you still lived with your mom and dad and I was middle-aged now I know how old I've gotten I've watched you grow up and have kids thanks for all the years of entertainment God bless your family
The bentonite clay idea worked great for my father in laws pond. He bought a pallet of 80 lb bags. Goes in as powder, wait on the rain and you and the boys just have to walk it in!
I have a pond a my house it is acre and we have a big drought in Connecticut my pond is a bout 12 ft deep and it has probably lost about 8 or 9 ft of water. I don’t really now what to do but watching this video gives me some ideas. My pond was thriving like yours and I caught a 2.98 lbs LMB out of it with my friends. Hope we get some rain soon. 😢😢😢
Jon, imagine a bama bass collaboration. Would be quite a jouney and tons of content in the future for both of you. Honestly bama seems like he’s getting a little bored with his 5 acre bass heaven lol
Just a heads up. All of those trees that you cut down. The roots are still going to be pulling water out of your pond and in a few months those stumps are going to have new branches growing out of them.
Should have a little fire on them stumps, theyll be back in a year unfortunately, should consider sime outside help, drainage points/ ditches, theres cheaper alternatives then a liner, clay or some other stuff. Hope to see your pind full and thriving soon Jon! And hopefully more uploads!
Get some clay and bandite for the improvement of the pond so it won’t leak so much and make it a few more feet deeper. When you get the pond back to life try to put some F1 bass and golden Shiners for an epic feeding frenzy
Bro you should dig a well near by so u can add to it when need be i know it would be spendy but the pond would look amazing and they make a compond to help seal natral pond floors keep it up man
I hope your pond does become successful. I wonder if you make a little bit bigger and deeper would help the fish out when it’s hot out. They can go into the deep.
Jon don’t use those trees for anything, I think you should scatter them through the pond and add some cover for the fish. Just an idea. If you do, make sure to add some weight to them like a stone or two with them, because they will float at first . But once waterlogged they will stay underwater .
Hey Jon, I’m a big crappie fisherman, and imma suggest once u get the pond fixed I’d like to see some white crappie. That way you can eat some of the fish out of there. Just an idea. But yeah best of luck with the pond.
I don’t know when you filmed this but it literally did not rain in September or October this year. Plus most of July and August. It was brutal. November was better though.
I would add a shallow well, drill a well if you can and that way you can regulate water and also have fresh water in there, run it off a pump make a cool rock feature for it be cool
I just watched Flair, not that long ago, successfully build a multiple acre, I forget exactly how much, but a big pond. Just call your boy. He struggled at first but he figured it out after spending a small fortune. He ended up doing a clay, bentonite, clay sandwich in the end. Yikes. But... it's a beautiful pond now.
I think digging a well and having it constantly topping it up is the only real way of keeping it full either that or line it with clay but ya i think a well especially for your pond would be class and in my eyes the only way to grow some really big bass!! 🐟🎣
Million dollar idea. You can make like a virtual fish tank. Take 4 live feed cameras set to in all directions on YNt wacker theft grab 4 small screens to show the feed in your house and arrange them in a fish tank pattern so you can watch your fish live inside
Hey Jon this might sounds crazy but I seen a video where a guy had the same problem with his pond said it wouldn’t hold water… so he put pigs 🐖 on it and over time his pond started holding water and now never goes dry 🤷♂️ just thought I’d share good luck with the pond!!🙌🏼
Just give LoJo a call. He rebuilt his pond and it's looking good, except for the algy. Have 2 feet scrapped and have 2 or 3 feet of clay brought in, for starters. Line the entire pond and islands with a couple feet of clay.
That's a fathead minnow. Kinds surprised to see you still have some. I put my bass fingerlings in my lake in June and you can hardly find the big fatheads anymore.
Do some waterproofing bro. Either dig deeper if you’re dead set on that depth or just add in some clay. Of you can add a soil sealant product of some sort Or just add a pond liner then add dirt and rock on top of it so you can’t see the liner Also have a well dug and just fill it as needed
Oh Jon she just perfect! You and the wife did amazing … now get some boys lol . I am very jealous I had 4 kids and all boys … I wanted a princess so bad !
I hope everyone else is as excited as I am for the annual Jon B gets motivated to build a pond for a couple weeks video series

Have a surveyor come in and map the drainage of your property. A couple well placed drainage channels dug towards the pond could go a very long way in refilling the pond and keep water levels high with minimal rain.

u should contact bama bass for pond help, he just made a massive 6 acre pond.

Hundred percent. Very realistic about what's needed but no matter the options it'll never be cheap

Expanding foam in that solar panel frame will stop wasps from calling it home
& stop the leak

In a place where rain is scarce greenery absolutely will affect your pond levels, the average tree can consume 10-150gallons of water a day
Yes line this thing with clay or it's gonna be a never ending battle to keep it full. Adding fish habitat and stocking fish will accomplish nothing in these conditions
The roots also cause leaks in the pond where they pertrude through the dirt on the sides.
