- Enjoyed building this kit so much I’m doing another to go on the wall next to it.
Edit 2. I’ve just started a 2nd one of these which I wasn’t going to do all the motorising & sound on, just build as static (I want an olive drab one). However, if there’s enough interest I’ll do it with the same electronics & I’ll post build videos of the process, bearing in mind I’ve never done a build video before so my production values will be barely above hobbyist amateur. Let me know in the comments if this would be of interest. Cheers.
Edit: questions about where it’s from. The aircraft kit (description in title) available online from many model stockists or eBay. Electronics & light set from here
www.magicscale... and crew figures from Master Details. Too many other minor bits & pieces to list here.
Thanks for watching.
Wow...that huge mockup of a picnic table that you placed that real B-17 on is amazing.
The giant plants really sell the illusion.
There are model makers and model builders but you sir, are an artist. Beautiful job you have done.
The oil and exhaust trails are so well done. Only a crew member or flight mechanic would pick up on that sort of detail. One can see this bomber has been on several missions. Would love to hear the engine audio line out to a stereo amp and real speakers. Bet it sounds incredible. What a fine tribute on this Memorial Day 2021.
Beautiful!
I could 'almost' see smoke blowing out when the engines cranked over.
Astonishing…and unbelievable masterpiece. Congratulations
Wow thank you very much for the compliment👍🏼
WOW looks and sounds so realistic I was expecting smoke to start belching out of each of those good old Pratt & Whitney radials when they 'started up'! 👍😁👍
Those are R-1820 Wright Cyclones.
@@ervinthompson6598 OUCH that's what I get for using Wikipedia!
it belongs in a museum
Wow thank you!
There’s no room for improvement. 👍
Wow!! That was great !! Fantastic!! Thank you for posting this!!
That start up routine is excellent. Go on, install some smoke generators. You know you want to.
as if the build quality, paint, weathering and finish weren't enough - here we see what is meant by 'going the extra mile' - lol - Outstanding work!
Thanks!
Wow... amazing, ultra realistic wear and tear, the weathering and exhaust trails on the wings is perfect !
Looks like she's ready and set for a long-haul flight back to Rattlesden.
You have every right to be proud of that B-17, absolutely magnificent !
I was waiting for it to take off.Truly stunning.
Quite impressive!
I love a well detailed model. Very well done sir. Even the oil and exhaust trail on the engines and wings.
You’ve gotta be proud of that!
That's utterly wicked!!!
Again, impressive detail!
Brilliant paint job
Fantastic build! It looks great and the lights/sounds and spinning props are amazing. I lived in the town where the 447th BG trained prior to going over to RAF Rattlesden for a little while. Parts of the base are still there, including one of the four original hangars.
One word TOTALLY describes this masterpiece of model making & that simply is "MAGNIFICENT"
You so obviously are a very experienced model maker indeed aptly confirmed by the sheer detail & work you have put into this beautiful model!! Well done indeed & it sure puts my meagre efforts into the too hard basket!! Respectfully, what planet did you come from???
Haha thanks for the kind words. To be fair I reserve my high praise for the folk who can put the equivalent level of detail into the smaller scales but I’ll take the compliment 😁
MAN! That's a Big 'un. Good job!
SWEET!! I thought it was a cool model till it started up. NOW ITS FREAKIN AWSOME!! GREAT JOB
That’s something else; huge for plastic!
I’m holding out for a 1/32 A-26A and F-82B.
Stunning paint job!
Absolutely unreal! Amazing!
Awesome , even down to engine startup sequence. Incredible weathering. Congratulations on such an outstanding build.
Beyond excellent, Sir......what a beast. That being said....I want one! But I could only aspire to achieve your level of excellence.
Beautiful job! Looks fantastic!
Fit in an aquarium thin clear rubber tubing hidden under a diorama with unflavored unscented vaping cartridge with fish tank air pump. Or jerry rig a model steam train engine with liquid smoke to complete the effect of the startup.
Oh man that would be awesome... but synchronising the pulses of smoke with the sound & prop rotation would be above my skills!
Special talent
Well done.
Very nice. Well done!
Beautiful. You just need to add the smoke
Beautiful! Try and find a clever way to blow cigar smoke under the Fort during the start sequence 😂
Stunning mate 👍🏼
Well done sir! you got skills!
Man that look really good!!!
Great job. Looks awesome !
Outstanding.....👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
WOW Seriously, WOW
That is magnificent, beautiful work
Awesome! 👍
AWSOME BUILD DUDE.
Very nice work 👍🙂
That is sooooo cool!
Amazing work!
Beautiful, job well done
Amazing job! 😲
Very nice build 👌
Looking good, have you ever thought of railroad smoke for the exhaust during startup? That would add to the insanity. We all know radials
I know them indeed but suspect that’s above my abilities!
I Love this thing! 🤩
This same aircraft was the 1/72 Airfix model in the 70’s, wasn’t it?
Yes correct! and I could never afford it as a kid ☹️
@@ZeddysDad - so it wasn’t pretty expensive in France only. I remember being completely at a loss as to what the bit o’ lace could mean…
Surprised it didn't start to taxi forwards! 😄
Magnificent!
Incredible work.
Fantastic work and a great demonstration on what can be done. I'm sure it's pretty heavy with all that plastic and electric motors etc. The question is now, have you got a suitable place to put it so that it can be admired on a daily basis?.
Cheers and well done, thanks for sharing. 🍻
Thanks, yeah it's heavy but is supplied with a wall mount. I've got a video up of it on my channel
I just bowed to my phone.
Beautiful job
Haha thanks!!
How long did this take
@@dropshotdougie best part of a year elapsed. Probably a month's work if I'd 2-3h a day
Just incredible......
The plane is just absolutely amazing.....but you missed the teak oil on your table.....and chairs....!
Haha agree with you but my wife likes them pale
This particular B 17 had the older type of waist windows, with a kind of middle frame.I painted them on using silver and masking tape.
Yes, thank you - I realised soon after looking at pics of the real thing, however was too lazy to modify it, hoping not too many would notice!
@@ZeddysDad Hi not a criticism, just if you look at photos of "Miss Lace" 42-97976 you can see she has the older framed type windows.Great kit though isnt it?
Superb!
good job
AMAZING
Too short of a runway for takeoff. Very well done build!
Wow superr!!!!!!! 👌👌👌👌👌👌Pozdrowieniaaaa
STUNNING!
Very cool
WOW!!!
Awesome
Wow! Record the plane next time from wheel level.
Unfortunately she’s fixed to my wall now like a skewered butterfly I darent move her
Awesome! 👍🍻
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
2 Thumbs up.
Then again towards the end of B-17 production so many modifications were made its hard to know.I based my "bit o lace" on a well known photo in flight..You can see it has framed waist windows,AND it was hit by flak over Kiel in April 45 and had one rear elevator green and one silver.
Brillant
Can you PLZ explain how you got the electric motors to spin at such a slow RPM for the first few revolutions. Not one of my R/C models are able to spin that slow so the start up sequence with MRRCsound module doesn't look right. That Model is magnificent.
Thanks! Re the prop speed, it’s all hard coded on the Magic Scale Modelling control board (link in description). Could be wrong but I think it fires on/off pulses of v.short duration as necessary to control the speed. I just put the thing together.
Needs lighting to complete the look
It has-I’ve posted a couple of videos showing it but you can’t see it outside
😁👍
👍😀👍❤
かっこい〜😄👍
Was the sound and motors your own design or is this a motor/sound kit like those for certain star trek models? Very curious.
Hi, I’m getting way too much credit for this! It’s an off-the-shelf electronics kit designed especially for the aircraft model kit by Magic Scale Modelling. I put the details in the vid description 👍🏻
Fantastic, what are the sound and movement products you used? great work mate
Thanks. Link to the magic scale modelling kit used here: www.magicscalemodeling.com/shop/B-17-Flying-Fortress-1-32-Motors-Sound-%26-Lights-set-Taxiway-p218107020
So cool! Is this Arduino based?
Hello thank you. I had to look "Arduino" up as I'd not heard of it! But no, it's a package from these guys: www.magicscalemodeling.com/shop/B-17-Flying-Fortress-1-32-Motors-Sound-%26-Lights-set-Taxiway-p218107020
But i dont get it 1/32 is soo big if i see them on Amazone they are all much smaller
Absolutely amazing! May I ask how do you attach the model to the wall?
Hello and thanks! The wall fixing on this kit is easy, the mount comes with the kit (and I wish more did) and believe it or not is held by a single small screw in the wall. Rock solid though.
@@ZeddysDad I used to hang my planes from a thread from the ceiling. I had the big Monogram B-29 Hanging up there minding his own business and one day my wife came in the room to do something and she reached up and "Bombs Away." All souls on board lost.
@@jamesschrom317 noooooo!! I had that monster kit too
I simply put 2 brackets on the wall and she rests nicely upon that.
Nice job....how much?
Probably in region of £600 for all the bits
@@ZeddysDad Do you build for people for a living? If so, I would be interested in a B-17
@@benparadude2028 hi much as I’m flattered, unfortunately its just a hobby at the mo as I’ve got a day job much as I’d love to get paid to do this.
@@ZeddysDad Dude, I would pay ya if you ever wanted to take it on.....your work is beyond my talents........

What company makes this 1/32 scale 17 ?
HK Models, but you have to get the motor/light/sound kit separately. Details in the vid description
Does that B17g model fly?
Negative, it’s just for display.
Where the heck does it live in the house ?

@@ZeddysDad nice
low camera angles would be better, high views reduce scale.
Whats on the nose art?
“A bit o’lace” (v.famous B17)
@@ZeddysDad This is a beautiful model and a great metal finish. Couple of minor observations: my recollection is that "A Bit O'Lace" was an early production model without staggered waist gun windows so not entirely accurate for this configuration -love the colour scheme though and great memories of the old Airfix 1/72 Box art. On the weathering, those four vents behind each engine don't exude black streaks, they are air vents for the fuel tanks I think so actually the oil streaks from the engine nacelles deflect around them (and deflect slightly to the left as you view from the rear due to prop wash), just something you might want to bear in mind on your next build. Congratulations on a stunning kit.
@@harto6498 Thanks! Yes I already got told off about the waist guns. Nothing I can do about that but I can live with it. I also got pulled up on the oil staining as well, and I've subsequently re-done the effect entirely. It definitely looks more realistic now, but must admit I prefer my incorrect initial guess!
@@ZeddysDad ......everything is perfect - except the start sequence ; I'm sure your electronics designer knew what they were doing, but in the modern day I have rarely seen anything but 3-4-2-1.
WTF... talk about a short runway.... better be heroic pilots in there
Too bad you wrecked it by intentionally weathering it. I guess model builders have never seen pictures of brand new aircraft.
They only stayed new till the first flight. After 5 or 10 the oil stains and exhaust take effect. Then standing outside in the sun/snow/rain does the rest. Totally authentic IMO.
Smash that dislike button dude! 👎🏻
Weathering is lovely, but perhaps you mean the mistake of having exhaust stains running out of the wing vents, which many make the mistake of doing. Only hot air comes out of there and they deflect the exhaust trails to the sides.
Wow that’s awesome 😎
