I just stumbled upon this channel and I'm very glad I did. Some truly beautiful archtops on your channel. Nice Bill Evans interlude also!

I love the high range tone on it, sounds amazing. Reminds me of D’angelicos a lot but it also sounds very unique, overall absolutely incredible guitar :)

D'Angelicos, to me, have more "bite" than your typical L-5 or S-400, some almost sounding "chirpy". But this could be argued to be more for the purpose of cutting through a big band, which after all was the main purpose of these style guitars. This particular guitar has an exceptionally sweet tone as a solo guitar.

That says more about D'Angelico when another maker makes the occasional guitar that matches up with a D'A. Match this up with the Mottola guitar you have.

bridge & base weigh 34 grams. i make unit that weighs 11 grams and is stiffer. the bridge top tends to flex due to old world engineering. the moving mass in my setup is much less, giving tone

Haha! I think that quality cotton has some reverberating affect on the woods.

Would you say this guitar sounds different than other cutaway Gibsons from the late 40s? I have a 48 L7-P but I don't have anything to compare it to.

It sounds a little brighter, louder, and just sweeter resonance and overtones than my other similar year cutaways.

Every once in a while, you find an instrument where the right woods comes together with all the parts in such a way that you wind up with everything blending the best they possibly can. It becomes a perfect storm of sorts and is extremely rare. This comes along once in a very small while.

Totally agree. I have been so lucky to find a few. There differences are subtle but even that extra 5% of harmonic resonance, or sustain, etc just warms the soul.
