Harmy... "How many real locals came to watch the cricket that were not from cricket countries?" ... I am one and saw many down here in Lauderhill, Florida! On rained out USA v IRE we were a bunch of new local fans present at the stadium to watch USA! I'm a local and originally from Mexico (not a cricket country!) and this T20 WC has got me converted into a new cricket fan! I was lucky to be present 2 days later for Pakistan v Ireland and I really loved the atmosphere of cricket; the only thing I am sad about is that being in South Florida I understand that we won't see that level T20 cricket for a long time after this WC!

Thi video is ridiculous.. These people are sooo orgasmed by flat pitches.... and homeruns they can't enjoy tight games... tight games are not only last over finishes.. tight games are tight all throughout the overs.. where it makes you wonder when are the runs gonna come ,when the wickets gonna fall.. and that's what was made possible by the new york pitch..on the case of timing.. so when matches are hosted in India, aus, England.... there's no timing issue for people who live on other parts of the world? if there is , then logically no WC will be enjoyable..cz some parts of the world will ALWAYS have timing issue.... it's so pathetic that you blame and slaughter an event based on the convenience of your timing... the only valid criticism is the rain . otherwise everything Is fantastic... this has been the most competitive World Cup thus far in world cup history...Unlike other World Cups ..most games were not boring... batsmen were made to feel special whenever they scored runs bcz it was earned... and if you're gonna say dasun shanaka bowling wicket maidens is uncalled for as he is not that good of a bowler... then remember all those runs you saw in IPl and other parts of the world with avg score of 180-200 pitches.. all those batting performances are also not normal and uncalled for bcz they are not qualify batsmen.. runs are fed to them by the pitch......and red ball cricket is obviously a contest between bat and ball... but if you think white ball cricket is not and mostly should be entertainment.. go watch baseball.. or create another sport like cricket but with bowling machines, not bowlers..then you'll get your entertainment.....

Say what you like, the games have been exciting and close, no 280 plays 100 like usual in T20. I think the waffle about the New York pitch is hilarious. People are making out its Sabina Park 1998. My theory is that present day batsman are so moddy coddled with flat tracks, tiny boundaries, everything against the bowlers, and bats that a number 11 can miss-hit out the ground. Anything less than this and the world is ending 😂
Only thing i noticed about the New York ground was the massive boundaries and slow outfield.

It's not the low scorers that's the issue. It's the inconsistency that's the problem. That's dangerous. You can prepare for a wicket that's constantly low bounce like Guyana or wickets that are constantly high bounce like let's say some Aussie pitches. The issue with New york is that some balls are bouncing high and some are staying low when the ball is landing on the same spot. That's not good.

It's nonsense to say that white ball is just for "entertainment". The 250+ scores in IPL weren't entertaining it was just watching bowlers get smacked regardless of what they did. This world cup is far too heavy on the bowler's side. The ideal contest lies somewhere in the middle of the 2 and we had that a few years back. Going back to the 2016 world cup, 160, 180 or even 210 were the most common scores and I think that is when T20 is at its best and most fair for both bat and ball.

Nah that 2016 World Cup was a boring one, you consistently had scores of 180-200. An ideal game of t20 cricket should have scores of 140-160. The 2007-2010 world cups were very fun. 2022 was great to watch as well. 2021 was the worst, horrendous tournament.

@@rihitjamb3757 if all the games are between 140-160 it makes it a slug fest. You need to have variety. Take the IPL(not last season) for example. If you go to Chennai normally it used to be 140 to 160ish, then you travel to Bangalore and it's a 200 run fest. You cannot organise a tournament which thought is lob sided in ones favour. Having variety is what makes the game exciting. All games being low or high scoring games make it boring. I'd say me personally I'd be happy with anything between 140 to 210 in T20 Games. The occasional high or low scoring game is fine but the whole tournament cannot be that

It takes a different skill set to play on a wicket that isn't a road, and in my opinion it's a skill set that I find more interesting because it's one that I find more relatable. The only pitch to complain about was the NY pitch for the first couple of games before they watered it and put the heavy roller on. I like cricket where the majority of the runs scored are actually run. Just my opinion but this is the first T20 world cup I have ever been able to get into.

    • @chriswatson7965
      @chriswatson7965 7 місяців тому

@alenbenny7169 The problem with Florida is simply the problem with having the US host a cricket competition in its current immature state. The only time suitable for cricket in New York is summer, and whilst cricket is possible in Florida in summer there is the problem with rain and humidity.. The solution, as solved in Qld Australia, is grounds that are specifically built and designed to drain quickly. The US is currently flat out even getting a suitable ground at all, much less one that is capable of draining quickly. Given games in New York were a necessity, and Florida is the home of US cricket I think that the ICC did the only thing possible and just hoped for good weather.
With regards the NY pitch, I'll just repeat that it takes a different skill set, and I prefer the NY pitch to anything in the IPL.
I'll also make a comment that I have long said that the biggest problem with Indian cricket is the incompetency of selection and the structure of the competition that adds to the complexity of selection. The one thing that the US got right was their talent scouting. If India could actually get an even moderately competent selection system they would never lose.

    • @chriswatson7965
      @chriswatson7965 7 місяців тому

@alenbenny7169 "The bounce in any pitch must be consistent." - absolutely not. The entirety of the technique of batting in cricket and the cricket bat itself is designed to counter inconsistent bounce. You play with a vertical ("straight") bat down the line of the ball. The bat has a long batting surface specifically because you could not predict the bounce of the ball. Cross bat shots used to be frowned upon.
In any case that is not possible to have perfectly consistent bounce unless you have a soft surface because the seam of the ball will generate inconsistent bounce.
The pitch was never described as dangerous, if it had been it would not have been used, that is what the umpires are for and the players would have complained. There have been very few injuries so far in this world cup, it certainly has not been notable feature.
And what specifically is the difference between a bowling pitch and a dangerous one? By definition a bowling pitch must be one where the batsman finds it more difficult to predict where the ball is going to go. That must make it inherently more dangerous.
"So if a ball which pitches around 2m from the crease bounces over your head in one ball and the next ball it crawls down your bat-that pitch is called dangerous" - what you are describing is excessively inconsistent bounce, the variation of which is greater than the length of the bat. Only the first 2 games of NY were anything like that, and even then I would argue within the normal variation of a test match pitch.
"Indian and SA batsmen had to pay the prices with their stats " - what are you talking about? they won all of their games. Or are you talking about their batting averages and strike rates? If so, why? Who cares?
"And fun fact is the skill needed to survive in unfit NY pitch is called "LUCK"." - if that is the case why have the final table standings not represented luck whatsoever? T20 has been called a "lottery", and this T20 world cup has certainly not been the case so far. The US beating Pak was the only upset match and Pak played badly. If you are referring to individual batting being luck, firstly that is always the case which is why even great batsmen can get a duck, and secondly the stats in this world cup do not confirm that. The players that performed better did so consistently.
"That means he mishit 19 balls in that match... He was just lucky to be there." - no it doesn't. Two of the differences between a top level batsman and an amateur is technique and judgement. A top level batsman knows what shot to play and how to play it to reduce the risk of getting out when mishitting a shot. Pretty much all cricketers from club level to international level have essentially the same hand-eye coordination. What makes the difference is knowing how to play a shot and which one (a third difference is predicting the path of the ball from the bowler's action). The aim is to make sure that a mishit doesn't cause you to lose a wicket, whilst optimising your chances of making a run.

There was a 5 hour window of absolutely gorgeous weather between rain. We sat in the glorious sun. And sat. And sat. Three hours after the original start time, it started to rain again and the match was called off. There was no sense of urgency to try to get the match played in the window that presented itself. If that is how cricket values its fans, I'll stick with other sports. My level of interest is now zero. I only watched this video to see if the presenters thought the tournament was a success or failure.

It's a 1000 times better than the IPL . Playing on road pitches where everyone is just blindly whacking scoring 160 in 10 overs throws the balance out of the picture. Here the batters need to pre calculate and user their brains more . It would have been fun to see Jake Fraser-McGurk playing on that NY pitch.

I think that above and beyond this individual world cup what was shown was the Dallas model works.
Take an abandoned minor league baseball stadium with a sizable immigrant population center and revitalize the stadium for cricket.
The pitch gets played on, adjustments are made and if/when major teams come to play the quality will be there even if the stadium only holds sub 10k.
Both of USAs wins were at Dallas, both had good totals and the wicket was safe and fun.
The ICC should fine itself and gift that money towards a proper Dallas model stadium in the New York/New Jersey area.

8:01 As an Indian American, I can tell you can never do that. Americans are very territorial when it comes to their sport. You will never get “local” Americans (I’m guessing you’re talking about white people and not natives) filling up the stadium, even soccer cannot do that. Most people who watched the game in the USA were Americans, even if they were first-generation or second-generation immigrants. The goal should be to attract that audience because they are not watching any sport after getting away from home. So it’s good to invest in them, and then the future generation coming forward will already will be invested.
And there are so many people from England, India, the West Indies/Caribbean island, South Africa, and Australia, living in America. There is a huge audience that needs to be explored.

Apart from the first match, there was nothing demonic about that pitch. Yes the outfield could have been better. But is it really that big of a crime to have ONE ground in a tournament that’s not conducive to batting? Having said that, the pitches in the USA have not really been good enough. I would usually advocate for more help for bowlers, but in the USA it went too far the other way. Scores barely over 100 with no sixes at all in quite a few innings.

If you'd given this pitch to people like Sanath, Sachin, Gilchrist, AB, etc, they would have scored that 150 or even many more. Those players can make bowling pitches look like batting paradises. Current players score loads of runs in flat tracks but when they are put in a slightly bowler-friendly environment they make it look like a batsman's worst nightmare pitch. Not acceptable. There was rain the day before, but on game day there was a window of beautiful weather -- bright sun and warm weather. Three hours after the scheduled start time, it started to rain and the match was cancelled. They had time to prep the pitch and get in at least some play for the paying fans and the curious Americans. But there was absolutely zero sense of urgency. If this is how cricket values its fans, screw it. There are plenty of other sports that are more fan-friendly that we can spend our money and attention on. I should not compare cricket to American baseball (but other potential American cricket fans will). In baseball, the moment it stops raining they haul the tarps off the field and restart the a baseball game, even if the outfield is soaked. Cricket lost two easily gettable fans.

It’s bullocks. This is one of the best T20 WCs we have had in a while. Easily the most memorable one since the first one in 2007. It’s precisely the “dull pitches” that have made so many matches competitive and allowed associate nations to pull a lot of upsets. It’s just damn if you do damn if you don’t with this guy. In a game which is already so heavily geared towards the batsmen, it just takes one tournament with competitive pitches for the whiners to come out in full force. Well guess what, what we are seeing in this World Cup is much more preferable to 200+ per match as seen in the IPL. Enough with the pessimism. USA for the first time was dialed in the tournament and I kid you not, so many Americans who had no interest in the game started paying attention. Some bars with subscription to Sky were showing games at night when the Windies were playing just due to more people asking about it. Sure, it didn’t get everything right but if you think this World Cup is not better than the previous editions then you’re just being an ignorant moron.

Why does cricket need to become international? I don't get it. I'm happy with tradition and traditional showdowns and rivalries. I couldn't care if it grew into the States or not. I'd prefer if it didn't tbh

If you have problem with international cricket then don’t worry. Within a few years cricket won’t be international anymore and t20 club cricket will be the primary.

Viewing figures dont lie. With big scores come big numbers for viewers. The grounsman are obviously told this. Make the wickets flatter and the boundaries smaller.

Seriously few matches being washed out and erratic timings and poor pitches in New York made this wc in bits and pieces ..lacking rhythm and continuity..so nt ideal to get yourself glued in

6:33 I totally agree with him cause many original Americans didn't even know there was T20 and some Americans only reacted on UA-cam only for views but from their reaction we clearly felt that they are not interested they give importance to their national sports.
So this is a big loss for America.

Great bowler Steve Harmison! Till the time cricket is introduced in American schools, no chance of the sport slowly growing. For now, there's a huge expat presence in the sport, more American kids need to be playing! 🇮🇳
