+pokefan100 Best example for it is Paul. He catched many of the bird pokemon and released one after another, because they don't had the attack he loocked for and/or had a wrong level.
I remember this one time, Ash hesitated when calling an attack because he probably wasn't sure if his pkmn knew the move or had to think on his feet. (Idk if this was the exact move and pkmn he was using) He was basically like "Kingler, use.... Crab hammer".
uhh the pokemon adventures manga about red also shows trainers consulting pokedexes for just about everything, from hp, to lv, to stats, and moves. seriously it's cool.
I know how trainers know their moves. Up to the age of 10, they study the Bulbapedia written by Professor Bulba. When visiting a new region, they get the updated version of Bulbapedia. (Just a fun non-canon explanation :D) Other than that, they just rely on their Pokedex I guess.
I remember an episode in the early Diamond and Pearl season where Paul caught 3 Starlys, and used his Pokedex to find out which was the best, and the way he did that was to check their moves. One of which had Aerial Ace, while the other two did not, so he released the other two, so I do agree with this theory because of that scene.
Hmm, very interesting. I'm gonna continue with my "League owns and regulates everything" theory and say that moves are regulated to provide balance and structure, but Pokemon can attack in other ways. In the school episode, the girl states that moves like Bone Club and Bonemerang are allowed when Ash says she was cheating. New techniques are developed and are eventually decided upon by the League whether to be official moves or banned. This is why moves like Guillotine and Fissure are regulated so that in formal battles the Pokemon aren't KILLED!
In the game you can teach pokemon moves when they reach a certain level? Can trainers in the anime decide if they want or do not want a pokemon to learn a certain move? Or do they have no choice?
In one of the very first diamond and pearl episodes Paul catches 3 starly and explains to ash that he can check the moves of his pokemon on his pokedex, then he releases the two starly that don't know gust
We have to show the poke dex the Pokemon / Move and it will describe and create profile for it maybe? But I have no idea how it numbers them and how it knows how many mons there are
Speaking about this.. Sometimes I believe that pokemons in the anime have more than 4 attacks for which I don't have any proof but it kinda seems like that
the journey route is more of an apprentice ship with ojt. one rare pokemon, and the journeyman (gym leaders) give the trainer a battle depending on how much badges they have while teaching skills, and then to become a master trainer one must be able to beat other master trainers actually trying while gym leaders told to hold back on purpose so the apprentice ( rookie trainers) has a chance to beat said trainers. while I'm sure the school route would be great to learn the theory before the practical and steer students to become instructors instead of gym leaders.
I thought that the trainer sort of has a psychic connection to their Pokemon, the same way they are connected for mega evolution but on a smaller scale.
Hmmm.... you're on the right track but I have a different idea, maybe they learn the most common move sets for a Pokemon and they go to school for the effects because if I recall, in Emerald when you enter the class room in Rustboro you can see that they are learning the effects like burn, poison, etc. and they had books in front of them, but that is just a theory a ProtoMario theory
make a theory on "Would've Ash been able to defeat his enemies from who he lost if he would've picked the right Pokemon despite the fact of 'every Pokemon should have a chance' ."
he could add a theory why no fire from any pokemon can burn a fucking cut tree...its just not good to add realism to everything. also when charmanders flame goes out it dies which means it can go out ;)
+KnightsOG Charizard's flame may not be a real flame, but an indicator of it's life energy. (Not HP. the amount of life Charizard has. it's confusing.) if charizard is almost dead, then it's flame would reduce unless bought to a Pokemon center. This explains how it can fight underwater in RSE and ORAS and how in Origins, it's flame didn't go out when it landed in the water.
+TheGamingH _ HP is life energy. That's why it's fixed by going to a center. It's already been stated that pokemon can actually die from fighting. Usually they'll faint first or give up or the trainer will give up for them. That's also why at most regulated events, there are referees to determine when one is "unable to battle" and declare the other the winner. It's just like boxing, ufc, etc. The match is stopped when one gets KOd, or sometimes by decision after certain time. If the poke was allowed to keep beating on char(mander-izard) after it was KOd, it would die, just like ufc fighters would if they kept getting beat on after they were KOd. And if you saw origins, when Blue's Squirtle is beating on Red's Charmander, its flame starts to fade and that's when Red calls him back.
I feel like that trainers that dont have the means of seeing the pokemons moves they could just teach the pokemon four moves and suggest that it not learn new ones
Proto please do my theory I've been asking so many times so could you please do it sooner or later it's a great theory. My theory is why does Sir Aaron and Ash have similar Aura and why does Riley from Sinoh have a similar look just like Sir Aaron? Plus they both are able to use Aura and they both have Lucarios. Does this mean they are all related some how??? Or could Sir Aaron be Ash's lost father or Maybe Ash is a re incarnated version of Sit Aaron. Or Riley is a descendant of Sir Aaron.
some trainer train with their pokemon and found that their pokemon can do awesome stuffs, they then named the moves and popularize it. word got around that certain pokemon can do certain moves set so trainers all around train their pokemon to be able to do those moves, hence leveling up their pokemon. it's just like the command "sit" to your dog. then scientists MRI scan the pokemon's brain while it try to do that move, the brain pattern for specific move is recorded and reproduced in the form of TM, which when activated triggers electrical impulse into the pokemon's brain to recreate that move inside their brain, hence they learn a new move.
Right before i watched this, i told myself, "It's the Pokedex", so i have to agree with you with it IS the Pokedex, or the "AttackDex" part, that tells trainers what attacks their Pokemon know! But the 2 things you did not mention were the obvious facts about it in the anime: 1- Ash and Paul's first encounter! Paul tells Ash he saw him catch his Starly, and asks Ash, "You really think that Starly's good enough???" Then goes on to tell him, you can scan the Pokemon you catch to see what moves they know, as Paul is trying to find and catch a Starly with Aerial Ace, i highly Level move, that most Starly wont know off the bat! Thanks to scanning his 3 Starly, he sees he did catch 1 with Aerial Ace, so he releases the other 2! Paul does this later with a Stantler that he catches, and sees it only knows Tackle! Then one of the biggest things when it comes to learning new moves, most Pokemon learn new moves when they evolve, just like Ash's Boldore! When Roggenrola evolves into Boldore and Ash checks his Pokedex, after the Pokedex finish talking, Ash says, "All right! We got new moves!!!" Those moves being Rock Blast, and Rock Smash! Now, when it comes to learning moves, most pokemon learn moves either through using an older move, and a newer moves takes place by what seems like accident, then you have to refine and practice that move, if it seems shaky, some times a new moves might just come naturally. An example of this is in the Battle Frontier, when Pikachu uses Quick Attack, but ended up using Volt Tackle instead! And some trainer can teach their Pokemon new moves even if there is NO sign that they are trying to learn it, and most of time there is another trainer or an elder of sorts helping out the trainer with advice on the move, that the Pokemon is trying to learn! Like Froakie trying to learn Quick Attack, it was a spur of the moment idea, and it did not even result in Quick Attack, it learned Double Team instead! When it comes to Pokemon and Moves, it is a very interesting subject that can be talked about for hours!
Well i wondered about this when in episode 4 of the original series, Ash's Metapod evolves into Butterfree whilst fighting Beedrill. Pretty much as soon as it evolves, Ash's orders it to use Sleep powder. How did he know it had it? I get that yeh when BF evolves it learns the powders, but Ash knows NOTHING about Pokemon at this point. Just kinda funny really.
how do pokemon learn new moves do they still know the old moves or they just don't use the move anymore and how do trainers know their pokemon learned new moves
It was addressed multiple times in the Anime, I know at least Ash, Misty and Dawn all consulted their Pokedex every once in a while to check out there Pokemon's moves, the the Diamond and Pearl arcs they even showed us that the Pokedex in the anime looks just like the Pokedex in the DS games

this is a very plausible theory imo, for the anime. it gets me thinking about it, and i love a good brain challenge. also, to The only person who married marribelle on their first game...plz dont be so hard on Proto, he's trying his best for us, the viewers and subscribers, who send in the requests for theories, and personally i like his videos despite them being "anti-climactic" and whatnot.
Hey +ProtoMario I don't get why we are told in the game when the Pokémon will learn the move in the first place. like how Pikachu learned how to use Electro ball and forgot Volt tackle in Unova with out ash knowing Pikachu was going to do so>
I always wondered why/if Pokemon poop.Ok maybe I could of found a better term. Obviously they eat berries and Pokemon food, and like every living creature, they have to get rid of the waste one way or another. My personal theory for a while was that they get rid, or release, that waste or energy in the form of their Pokemon attacks.Good energy = strong attacksBad foods = weak attacksI don't know, just something I thought of.

Good theory, another plausible explanation is that the trainers can look up their Pokémon's moves in the Pokémon Storage System. The storage system possibly give trainers a summary of the Pokémon.
That makes sense but only for the trainers of today. . . I mean before the pokedex, before the trainer schools. Before Pokeballs. How did they learn all of this and who created the pokeballs to begin with? If you go all the way back it had to start with someone, maybe it was someone like Yellow who could sense a Pokemon's emotions and thoughts? Perhaps the very first professor? Who knows, but this does require a lot of the lore to be unfurled.
Personally i believe that in the pokemon universe the limiting of four moves and the moves that can be learned by pokemon are simply rules instated by the pokemon league. So for example Ash's Pikachu never forgot any of his moves (Quick attack, Thunder etc.) but instead ash chooses not to use them as he wants to use other moves (Volt tackle, thunderbolt, electro ball, iron tail). I am guessing that before the attackdex, a certain percentage of people would of known how to communicate with pokemon to learn their moves, ie sabrina, n, lance and yellow from pokemon special
i wanna see just a video of him trying to create a theory or something when he's tired or something, even uneditted, just to see what crazy shit we'd get
I know usually Ash would find out the new moves of his Pokemon by either experimenting, teaching them a move, or his Pokemon suddenly display the new move, like when his charmander learned Rage during the battle with a primeape, I believe.
Well, in a lot of the games you can level up your pokemon to a level where it learns a new move before you get a Pokédex so unless they truly went to a trainer school and studied very hard, then it's still a mystery.
No , Because Pokemon when caught or got as a starter they create bonds so when they learn a new move or their Pokemon levels up they get a mental pic of that and remember that.
how did the first poketrainers learn the moves of the pokemon first? like what did they do to know "fire blast", and how did the pokemon learn that that was that move? Proto we need ur help, plz
My answer to this theory would be one word, Aura. I theorize everyone in the Pokemon universe can sense aura to some extent, recognizing when their Pokemon has leveled and learned a new move. One of the aspects of aura includes reading the minds and actions of others, explaining how the trainer can recognize when their Pokemon has learned a move as well as other things.
When do they change their pokemon's move, I mean after having 4 moves learnt when the PKMN has learnt a new move so they have to delete a move. So do the trainers actually do it?
a little pokemon theory: (which is more I've always wondered) what the pokemon food is made of? you know, those brown little things that are ofter showed in the anime....
But Protto! Can u make a video on are ghost Pokemon dead? Cuz in lavender town the Pokemon originally show up as un seeable ghost. So are they really dead Pokemon?
This, isn't much of a theory.... Ash's Pokedex knew pokemon attacks, it shows in the Anime episode, "The Ninja-Poke Showdown" with Psyduck, it was also fricken hilarious!
proto i've asked soooooo many times aswell about this theory red never happened because he beat team rocket but team rocket is still around and he plus he's one of the trainers from pallet he took charmander.
It has been shown in numerous episodes that trainers can simply check using their Pokedex which moves an individual Pokemon can use.

"But Proto!" Who makes the Pokedex entries? It sure can't be the trainer itself.
Allan da Silva true dat!
We have to show the poke dex the Pokemon / Move and it will describe and create profile for it maybe? But I have no idea how it numbers them and how it knows how many mons there are
Adding to that, how will they find out things for the pokedex description like Magcargo's core temperature?
+Shiny Swalot they probably have hi tech scanners and stuff
Thats never mentioned though...

Haha, funny "But Proto!" @ 2:49, way to go Proto :P
You should do a theory on why pokemon can only know four moves at a time.
How did the schools/teachers learn pokemon moves/info?
How does the pokedex know pokemon moves/info?
how do pokemon learn new moves do they still know the old moves or they just don't use the move anymore and how do trainers know their pokemon learned new moves
But in the anime the Pokemon who learned the new move showed the trainer there new move
Plus they can check the pokedex
But Proto, I have to wonder how the tcg can exist in the anime, yet not anything resembling the video game carts.
+Luciano Martinez Yea didnt Dawn consult the Dex for Buneary to learn Ice Beam?
Pokemon Theory: How do some pokemon eat?
This is how I always assumed trainers knew what attacks their Pokemon had and learned.
"But Proto!" Pokemon Adventure(the manga) shows people using pokedexes(is that the plural?) to see the moves and HP of their pokemon
Finally back to the pokemon theories
Hey Proto! Hello! I thought you could do a Theory about the DNA Splicers (can't remember how its spelled, sorry.......) about their origin, Drayden being the guardian, and how Kyurem Responds to them!
In the first few episodes of diamond and pearl when Ash meets Paul, Paul checks the moves of multiple Starly's and chooses the one with Aerial Ace.
So yes, you can use the pokedex to check moves. Not really a theory, just fact.

I have a theory what causes pokemon to evolve in short time even though evolution takes millions of years to occur?
Because Pokemon evolution = metamorphosis.
Simple answer, POKEDEX, its been confirmed in 2 of 3 series (animu and mango) that the pokedex can show moves
+xXnotslyfoxhoundXx Lol "animu & mango" xD
he already said that
Hope you get better Proto! I also have allergies so I know how you feel.

But proto how could the people that lived before the pokedex know the moves of pokemon?
Lots of studying, experimentation, and memorization.
This would also explain how some pokemon are able to learn moves in one region or generation but no the next... because that regions pokemon league bans it... Like swagger in smogon :|
p.s. please correct me on pikachus moves and that because i could be wrong (It's late and i don't want to do a whole bunch of reasearch to be 100% accurate with my example... sorry) but yeah its just a thought

There was one episode where Paul released a starly because the pokedex said it had certain moves whereas the other starly had "better" moves
How do Pokemon know what move to use when a trainer says so, for example, "pikachu, use thunderbolt" how do they know if thunderbolt is thunderbolt?
Well, in a lot of the games you can level up your pokemon to a level where it learns a new move before you get a Pokédex so unless they truly went to a trainer school and studied very hard, then it's still a mystery.
He brought back the coma theory, and went into too much detail. *FACEPALM* OW! MY GLASSES!
How does a pokemon hatch from an egg at level 5 but you can run into random pokemon at level 2 and 3
No , Because Pokemon when caught or got as a starter they create bonds so when they learn a new move or their Pokemon levels up they get a mental pic of that and remember that.
lol

When will we ever see a Megaman theory video?
Anyone realize the crosshair next to Klink or whatever Pokemon.
But Proto !!!!
I don't have anything just wanted to type it once cause I keep hearing about it lol
I have a question, is using other peoples work in youtube on your playlist ilegal or does that just go if you claim it is your original work?
Proto how did Ash teach Pikachu iron tail when its an egg move
could you explain more about how evolution stones became mega stones etc
Hey Proto, Can you answer this for me? How come I can send out my fire pokemon like charizard, who hate water, on water???
in diamond and pearl it told them on there pokedex where paul released starly for having bad moves
a little pokemon theory: (which is more I've always wondered) what the pokemon food is made of? you know, those brown little things that are ofter showed in the anime....
if anyone watched the anime sometimes when one of their Pokémon evolves they check their pokedex and it say the list of moves availabke
What level is ashes pikachu? Does pikachu ever gain levels?
this is why i subscribed to ur channel. pokemon theories
But Proto, at 2:52 the "but Proto" pic was upside down
Who was the indigo league champion?
But Protto! Can u make a video on are ghost Pokemon dead? Cuz in lavender town the Pokemon originally show up as un seeable ghost. So are they really dead Pokemon?
It is explained how they know their moves in the anime during the episode with Nanette in it
proto, make a theory about this: is buried alive a buried team rocket member
I LOVE U PROTO!!!! I LUV UUUUUUU!!!!!
This, isn't much of a theory.... Ash's Pokedex knew pokemon attacks, it shows in the Anime episode, "The Ninja-Poke Showdown" with Psyduck, it was also fricken hilarious!
No, it could be the connection between man and trainer, like in pokemon origins when red's charizard mega evolved, red knew it knew swift.
check out my video called "You killed Blue- Creepypasta"😄 I wrote it myself!☺️
Remember when Paul used his Pokedex on some Starly.
The weird part is that hoomans and the Pokemon use the same words for the moves.
IN WHICH EPISODE DOES ASH BATTLES TR POKEMON?
I think this is pretty cannon
proto i've asked soooooo many times aswell about this theory red never happened because he beat team rocket but team rocket is still around and he plus he's one of the trainers from pallet he took charmander.
