I lived in the piece of shit city, Fresno that considered UNLV their arch-rivals, even though Vegas beat the hell out of Fresno all the time. I loved UNLV and was always a huge fan.
What a bunch of lame shit the Arkansas fans displayed during the starting lineups. Probably the most stupid garbage I'd ever seen. You don't have to cheer the opponents but "Who's he"? What a load of classless shit.

What a doubleheader for CBS- That mega-monster UNLV team against a great Arkansas team, followed by LSU with SHAQ against Laettner/Hurley/Hill.

This was CBS' first year post-NBA (as well as the first round of the NCAA Tournament), so they loaded up, even had Duke/Carolina--which has almost exclusively been ABC/ESPN since.

UNLV certainly wasn't afraid to schedule good competition. They played at Arkansas, at Louisville, and Michigan State at Auburn Hills (a defacto road game).

The way they clobbered teams like in this game in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half with steals, rebounds and fast breaks made them my favorite team. I stayed home from school to watch the Montana game in the 91 tournament. Well, I was only about 1-2 years old...haha, but I've heard stories from my uncle, father and brother about these UNLV teams and how great they were. Ever since I've watched the 1991 Final Four film on ESPN in '97, I've always wanted to see games from them. They would DESTROY teams if that team was playing in today's College ball, even today's NBA ball.

    • @mr.nobody9697
      @mr.nobody9697 3 роки тому

They were great but i could give you problably about 5 teams since that wouldve beaten them. The 91 team was more dominant but the 90 team was deeper which is what lead to them getting beat by Duke in 91. They basically went 6 maybe 7 deep but thats about it.

  • @n10cities

This team here is still my favorite even more so than Corliss Williamson and the 94-95 Razorback teams (94 NCAA Champs, 95 Runner-up to UCLA). I sorely miss those baseball passes that Big O would throw down the court like at the 38:30 mark for those fast break points. He would rebound and automatically look down-court for the fast break. The 94 was a better TEAM, but these guys were great individual talents and also an awesome team as well. Just not as deep on the bench as the 94-95 team. Unfortunately they only got as far as the Final Four and never won an NCAA Championship.

It's Been almost 30 yrs since UNLV gave DUKE the WORST Beat Down of any Runner-Up in the NATIONAL Title Game. A 30-pt BLOW OUT. Seeing this GREAT College Hoops Game, #1 vs. #2, first time in about 20 yrs, I'm Still Wondering HOW The Dukies Won that National SEMI-Final the Next yr in '91.
And, I'm a DUKE Fan. BUT, I DO BELIEVE that The 'Runnin Rebels' Got PAID To LOSE.
I Think Some Folks in UP HIGH Places Wanted The BLUE-Devils, BACK in the TITLE Game. Coach K had been to 8 Previous FINAL Fours. Hell, the Only SENIOR Player On that '91 DUKE Squad (Greg Koubek) was in a FF All his Career at the West Durham Campus. NO Player had accomplished that Feat since 3 or 4 UCLA Players (like Marque Johnson) in the mid 1970s.
When you see How UNLV Dismantled a Talented Team like U-Ark, here, It Makes you Think. Remember to, this Razorback Squad was the Foundation leading to the '94 Squad. THAT Squad, led by CORLISS WILLIAMSON &
SCOTTY THURMAN, gave Coach RICHARDSON his Lone NATIONAL Title. Against......GUESS WHO ?
    (Uh Boy......Don't Tell Me.....)
    Coach K's BLUE-Devils

Never been anything like it since......This was one of the greatest College basketball team in history, along with some John Woodens great UCLA teams.

Holy Spirit Filled Because DUKE was and still is a basketball program at that time DUKE had been in 5 NC2A basketball final 4 and by and by 1992 ended up being in 5 straight final 4 and 6 years out of 7 with 2 national titles, UNLV just had a string of 2 good seasons around that time play in a very conference the BIG West they didn't to much have to do anything but prepare for the major teams they were playing time to time When DUKE in the ACC battles with North Carolina, Maryland, Clemson, NC STATE, Georgia TECH, etc.

@@elhombrenegro4999 No disrespect, but actually, it was 7 Final Fours in 9 years, 4 Championship Games in 5 years, 5 Championship Games in 9 years, and 2 National Championships, starting in '86. The greatest run ever in college basketball post UCLA era(may be even more impressive of a feat since UCLA always got ALL the best talent, while post UCLA run, there has been far more notoriety for teams across the nation, therefore a greater degree of parity).
Major Duke fan here. I agree with your assessment as well. It's just that IMO, that UNLV squad was one of the best teams ever assembled and, for that, it makes that win for Duke even more impressive.

Holy Spirit Filled None taken that seem to be correcto what you commented just to me it seem that the DUKE program as a whole was a better team at that time with all of their experience being in the Final Four was a better program for the occasion than the UNLV team

I had a picture (from Sports Illustrated I think) of Augmon's dunk at 49:00 in my school locker. It was taken from under the opposite basket. His arm pit was at rim level, and his finger tips were well over the box on the glass. It's hard to appreciate how high he got in normal speed, but he was way over the rim.

Arkansas with the players you see here. Alabama with "Big Shot Bob" Robert Horry, Latrell Spreewell, David Benoit, Marcus Webb, Melvin Cheatum, James "Hollywood" Robinson, Jason Caffey, Eric Washington... all future pros.

He talked about his QB HS days in the awesome interview by Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson where they interviewed LJ for over an hour. Miles and Richardson were like 2 school girls blushing over LJ and LJ was hella humble and playful with them. You should check it out cuz I just watched it here on UA-cam a few days ago.
